Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
Sprinter specifications and prices vary by wheelbase, roof and powertrain. As one specific example, Mercedes-Benz lists a 2026 2500 passenger van with a standard roof, 144-inch wheelbase, diesel standard-output four-cylinder, 12 seats, 3,307 pounds of payload and towing up to 5,000 pounds, starting at $56,930. Ram ProMaster
Ram advertises a maximum payload of 5,350 pounds for the ProMaster cutaway. That is a cutaway maximum, not a general payload figure for every ProMaster body. Ram’s page also describes warranty terms, including a 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, while separately identifying eligibility for select 2026 models. The figures are reported in GoodCarBadCar’s 2026 commercial-van sales table. The Sprinter’s June cutoff means its figure should not be ranked against the September totals as though the periods matched.
How to compare vans for your job
- Define the job. Decide whether the van will carry freight, transport people, run on electricity or serve as a cutaway/upfit platform.
- Select the actual body and configuration. Record wheelbase, roof height, drivetrain and powertrain, then compare like with like. A model name alone is not enough to establish dimensions or capacity.

Start with the Transit if you want the highest-rated model in Car and Driver’s cited full-size ranking, but use that score as a shortlist signal rather than a buying rule.
