The right choice is the strainer specified for your exact pump and fuel-pump assembly, with the correct attachment and dimensions and an inlet restriction appropriate for the pump. A GM OE strainer is one fitment-specific example—not a universal upgrade.
What a fuel pump strainer does
A fuel pump strainer—often called a fuel-pump sock—is a coarse screen fitted at the pump inlet. It helps keep larger debris from entering the pump while allowing fuel to flow into it. Marren describes OEM-style in-tank pumps as commonly using a low-restriction inlet strainer.
The strainer is not interchangeable with the finer filter used elsewhere in a fuel system. Inlet filtration must protect the pump without creating excessive restriction; downstream filtration serves a different purpose.
How to choose the right replacement
Start with vehicle and pump fitment
Use the vehicle’s exact year, make, model and engine, then verify the installed pump or pump assembly. Check the replacement’s part number and stated applications, inlet dimensions, and attachment style. A similar-looking sock is not proof of compatibility: a mismatch can prevent secure attachment or place the screen incorrectly.

Use the vehicle or pump manufacturer’s service guidance to determine whether the existing strainer should be replaced or can be reused. Do not assume either that every strainer is reusable or that a universal sock will fit.
Match inlet flow requirements, not just the micron number
A micron rating describes the size of particles a filter element is intended to capture; a larger number indicates a coarser element. It does not, by itself, establish that a strainer is suitable for a particular pump. Surface area also affects flow capacity, and a restrictive inlet can impair pump operation.

Aeromotive says its pumps should use an inlet element rated 100 microns or coarser, with at least 60 square inches of surface area. Those are Aeromotive’s application recommendations, not a universal specification for every pump. Follow the requirements for your own pump.
Confirm materials and fuel compatibility
Use the pump and filter makers’ documented recommendations for fuel and materials. The sources cited here do not establish one material as best across vehicles and fuel types, so do not choose by material alone.

Why finer is not always better at the pump inlet
A finer screen is not automatically a better pump strainer. A fine element at the inlet can restrict fuel flow; Aeromotive warns that inlet restriction can create vacuum, cavitation, vapor lock and pump damage. Its guidance is specific to its pumps, but the underlying selection point is practical: do not transfer a downstream filter’s fine rating to the pump inlet without confirming that the pump maker allows it.
For context, Marren Fuel Injection recommends a 100–150-micron coarse filter ahead of the pump and a 10-micron filter between the pump and injectors for high-performance systems. Treat those figures as Marren’s guidance, not a universal rule for all vehicles or fuel systems.

A fitment-specific example: GM 25055461 / ACDelco TS7
GM Genuine Parts lists strainer 25055461, also identified as ACDelco TS7, as an OE strainer with a 77-micron rating and push-on attachment. GM’s product page describes it as helping keep debris from entering the fuel pump and lists specific compatible GM vehicle applications. Check the current GM catalog against your exact vehicle and pump before ordering; the listed part is not a general fit for other vehicles.
The 77-micron figure is a published product specification, not evidence that this strainer outperforms other options. Likewise, an OE designation does not establish compatibility beyond the applications GM lists.

- Premium Materials:The fuel pump filter sock strainer is crafted from premium nylon material, offering not only high strength and durability but also effectively filtering impurities to protect the fuel pump and enhance fuel filtration efficiency
- Excellent Features: The fuel pump strainer is designed to efficiently filter impurities and contaminants in fuel. It ensures fuel purity, which not only ensures the normal operation of the engine, improves performance for smooth operation, but also enhances fuel utilization efficiency, extends engine service life, and supports the normal driving of the vehicle
- Easy Installation: The installation of this fuel pump filter is simple. First, release the pressure in the fuel system, clean the surface of the pump inlet, and then press the filter towards the inlet until you hear a click to confirm installation. During this process, make sure that the flow arrow on the filter is consistent with the direction of the pump inlet. Finally, reconnect the circuit and check for any leakage issues
- Packaging Includes: Each package contains 2 pump strainer filters, replacing the 125-190 filters. Please confirm if the product matches before placing an order
Where the two filter stages belong
In systems with both an inlet strainer and a downstream filter, they do different jobs: the coarse strainer protects the pump from larger debris, while finer filtration can protect components farther along the fuel system. Their placement and ratings depend on the system and pump specifications. Do not install a fine filter ahead of the pump merely because a fine downstream rating is recommended for another location.
