Short answer: No ordinary electric stand-up scooter in the available evidence can be recommended as safe on snow-covered or icy roads. For cold-weather commuting on cleared, wet pavement, compare a scooter’s documented water-resistance, tires, brakes, lights and practical range—but treat those features as aids for wet-road use, not proof of snow capability.
Can you ride an electric scooter in the snow?
Cold, wet pavement that is clear of snow and ice may be manageable with caution and a suitable scooter. Avoid riding when snow or ice covers your route. Small scooter tires have limited contact with the ground, and more motor power or wider tires do not remove that traction problem. ERideHero founder and lead reviewer Rasmus Barslund puts it plainly: “Our honest advice is to stay off the scooter when there’s snow or ice on the ground.”
A Finnish field report illustrates why the distinction matters. A Turku University of Applied Sciences student team tested eight light electric vehicles in Turku over five days between January 16 and 30, 2019. On the Xiaomi Mi M365, the team reported loose snow collecting around the thin tires and easy loss of control on ice; it concluded it could not recommend that scooter on snowy or icy roads. A wide-tire Ribber also had insufficient grip in loose snow, wheelspin on icy starts and difficult braking. The report is a dated, small-scale test of specific vehicles—not a current ranking or a finding about every scooter.
How to compare scooters for cleared winter roads
Water resistance is not snow or ice capability
Check the exact model’s published water-resistance rating and manual before riding in wet weather. An IP rating is a specification about water and dust ingress; it does not establish tire grip, safe use in slush, or permission to submerge the scooter. Avoid deep puddles and standing water, and stay within the manufacturer’s stated limits. A water-resistant scooter can still lose traction on a slick surface.

Tires: useful for comfort, not a guarantee of grip
Pneumatic tires can cushion rough pavement and are often favored for comfort and contact. Check the type, diameter and tread, and maintain pressure according to the manufacturer’s recommendation; cold-weather pressure checks matter. Tires also bring trade-offs such as puncture risk. The 2019 Finnish test found that even the wide tires on the Ribber did not provide enough grip in loose snow. No tire type should be treated as making ice safe.
Brakes and control
Look for the scooter’s actual braking setup rather than relying on motor count or a generic claim of strong braking. On wet pavement, reduce speed, avoid sudden acceleration, and start braking earlier with gentle inputs. Slick conditions can make hard braking or abrupt steering especially difficult to manage.

Battery, range and charging temperature
Cold weather reduces usable range. ERideHero’s 2026 winter guide gives a rough rule of thumb of 20–30% less range near freezing; it is not a guarantee for every battery or model. Actual range depends on the battery, temperature, speed, rider, route and vehicle condition. Plan a substantial reserve rather than assuming the advertised range will be available.
Follow the exact model manual for operating and charging temperature limits. ERideHero advises against charging a near-freezing battery and recommends warming the scooter indoors first; that general advice is not a substitute for the manufacturer’s temperature limits. If the battery is removable, indoor storage may be practical, provided the manual permits it.

Visibility and daily practicality
Winter often means darker commutes and wetter clothing. Check the scooter’s lights and reflectors, and consider reflective gear or supplemental lighting. Wear a helmet. These measures help with visibility and protection; they do not make an icy or snow-covered route suitable for riding. Also consider whether you can store the scooter indoors and manage its weight: the Apollo City 2.0, for example, is listed at 72 pounds.

These examples illustrate how to compare specifications, not a ranking of snow-safe scooters. Published product features and editorial recommendations do not substitute for independent tests on snow or ice.
| Model | Published details | What the evidence does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Kaabo Wolf Warrior 11 | ScooterGear Lab’s guide, updated September 7, 2026, names it as its snow/off-road choice and reports 11-inch knobby off-road tires, dual motors and roughly 70 miles of manufacturer-rated range. | The inspected sources do not establish a controlled snow or ice test. Treat it as a comparison candidate for rougher terrain, not a verified choice for snow-covered roads. |
| Apollo City 2.0 | Apollo’s current U.S. product page lists IP66 water resistance, 10-inch self-healing pneumatic tires, dual drum brakes plus regenerative braking, 72-pound weight and advertised range up to 40 miles. The page identifies it as a pre-order with expected Q4 2026 shipping. | These are manufacturer specifications, not snow or ice performance results. Availability and pricing may change; check the live page and confirm the exact version. |
The Apollo figures apply to the City 2.0, not earlier Apollo City versions. Neither an IP66 claim nor off-road tires establish safe traction on ice, and advertised range should not be read as a winter-tested figure.
Quick Recap
Winter riding checklist for cleared, wet pavement
- Confirm the route is clear of snow and ice; if it is not, do not ride.
- Read the manual for water exposure, tire pressure, operating temperature and charging limits.
- Check tire pressure, brakes, lights and reflectors before setting off.
- Ride more slowly, leave extra stopping distance, and use gradual acceleration, steering and braking.
- Keep a range reserve for cold-weather losses and changing route conditions.
- After a wet or salty ride, clean off road salt and dry the scooter. This is sensible maintenance, not a guarantee against corrosion.
- Store the scooter or removable battery indoors when practical, and do not charge a cold battery outside the model’s permitted temperature range.
