The right choice depends on whether its flange and body fit your intake, whether you prefer dry or oiled media, and how the filter will be serviced. A cone filter alone is not a guaranteed horsepower upgrade: published gains for complete intake systems cannot be credited to a replacement filter by itself.
How to choose a cone air filter that fits
Start with the intake tube, not the brand name. “Universal” does not mean every cone fits every intake. A filter that clamps onto the tube may still be too large for the available space or incompatible with the intake’s sensor and routing.
- Identify the intake. Check the vehicle’s year, make and model, and whether the intake is factory equipment or an aftermarket system. Look for the intake maker’s specified replacement filter.
- Measure the tube and flange. Match the intake tube’s outside diameter to the filter’s flange inside diameter, and check that the flange is long enough to secure it.
- Check the filter’s full dimensions. Compare base diameter, top dimensions and overall height with the available space. Confirm clearance from nearby parts and body panels.
- Verify compatibility. Check the intake maker’s guidance for sensor placement, fittings and any other application-specific requirements.
- Choose a service type and check legality. Decide whether you want dry or oiled media, then confirm the exact part’s emissions status for your location and vehicle.
Injen’s catalog lists dimensions for its conical filters and identifies dry-media and oiled-cotton options. Those measurements illustrate why fit should be checked by part number rather than by appearance alone: Injen air-filter catalog.
Dry versus oiled cone filters
The media determines how a filter is maintained. Follow the instructions for the exact product; cleaning and oiling methods are not interchangeable across filter types.
#1 Best Overall
- ENGINEERED POWER: State-of-the-art air filter media is designed to increase horsepower and acceleration as well as improve overall engine performance
- 4 LAYERS OF PROTECTION: Multiple layers of premium cotton gauze treated with a specially-designed tacking agent work together to create an intricate mesh of engine filter media that is designed to block and trap harmful contaminants

- CLEAN ONCE EVERY 5 YEARS: Engine air filter only needs cleaning every 75,000 miles under normal highway driving conditions (5 years based on the average miles driven per year of 15,000 miles)
- EASY INSTALLATION: K&N Air Filters are pre-oiled and ready to drop into your factory air box- they are one of the easiest and most cost-effective vehicle upgrades for quick performance gains
Dry synthetic media
Injen describes its SuperNano-Web X-1078-BB as a dry conical filter. The manufacturer says it needs no oil and can be cleaned with compressed air. Its listed flange inside diameter is 3 inches; verify the rest of the filter dimensions and the intake clearance before buying. These are maker specifications, not independent evidence that it filters better than competing products.
Oiled cotton gauze
Injen’s X-1107-BR is an oiled cotton-gauze cone with a listed 5-inch flange inside diameter. The manufacturer identifies its X-1030 kit for cleaning its filters. Its large flange means it is a candidate only for an intake with a matching tube and sufficient space. Use the maker’s cleaning and re-oiling instructions rather than assuming a kit or process works for another brand or media type.

How the named options compare
| Product | What it is | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Injen SuperNano-Web X-1078-BB | Standalone dry, cleanable cone filter; manufacturer lists a 3-inch flange inside diameter. | Confirm flange length, base and top dimensions, height and clearance. Injen says no oil is required and describes compressed-air cleaning. |
| Injen X-1107-BR | Standalone oiled cotton-gauze cone filter; manufacturer lists a 5-inch flange inside diameter. | Use only if the tube and available space match. Injen identifies its X-1030 kit for cleaning its filters. |
| K&N E-2427 | Reusable cotton-gauze replacement filter listed for a specified Acura Integra application. K&N describes it as a factory-air-box drop-in filter, not a universal cone. | Check the listed vehicle application; do not treat this model as a cone-filter option. K&N states up to 99% overall efficiency for this particular filter, a manufacturer specification rather than an independent comparison. |
| AEM 21-846C | Vehicle-specific cold-air intake system with an oil-free synthetic cone filter and heat shield—not a standalone replacement cone. | Confirm the exact vehicle application and local emissions rules. AEM states the system is not legal for sale or use in California on pollution-controlled vehicles. |

Rank #3
- Engineered Power: 6-Inch cone air filter is designed to cold air intake, as well as improve engine sport performance
- Design:Cone air filter built with simple clamp-on design, This air filter is made with 3 layers of mesh material, it is dry air filter
- Easy Installation: Easy to assemble with all parts included
- Washable: Using a washable, reusable air filter helps reduce replacement waste, A filter will last longer than 10 disposable air filters
- Features: This engine air filter only needs to be cleaned every 5,000 t o 10,000 kilometers under normal scene driving conditions (It mainly depends on your driving scene and the cleanliness of the intake air filter)
What performance claims do—and do not—show
Filter and intake claims need to be read at the scope the maker tested or describes. A result for an entire intake system is not a result for a cone filter installed by itself, and manufacturer specifications are not the same as an independent head-to-head test.
- AEM 21-846C: AEM/K&N lists an estimated gain of 7.1 HP at 4100 RPM for this vehicle-specific intake system. The estimate belongs to the complete system and its stated application, not to a generic standalone filter.
- AEM filter service interval: AEM says the synthetic cone filter in that system can be used for up to 100,000 miles before cleaning, depending on driving conditions. This is a manufacturer statement for that filter and system, not a universal interval.
- K&N E-2427 efficiency: K&N lists up to 99% overall efficiency for that particular filter. It is not an independently established ranking against the Injen or AEM products.
The reviewed product information does not establish a neutral, consistent test ranking these options for both airflow and filtration across vehicles. Choose by fit, maintenance preference, application and the evidence available for the exact product instead of treating a brand claim as a universal performance verdict.
