Shortlist at a glance
The table uses the same measures for every model. Observatory range and price entries are current records for specific versions; they are not necessarily the same versions advertised on a manufacturer’s national website. BYD’s mile figures are WLTP results, while the Observatory entries are shown in kilometres. Neither test figure predicts exactly how far the car will travel in winter, at motorway speed or with a full load.

How to read the range and price numbers
Why the SEAL has two very different range figures
The Observatory record for the 61.4 kWh rear-wheel-drive SEAL Comfort is 365 km, with 17 kWh/100 km efficiency and an approximate price of €41,700. BYD Europe’s 2026 page gives the SEAL a 354-mile WLTP range, equivalent to roughly 570 km. These figures should not be merged into one universal claim: they refer to different published records and may reflect different versions, wheels, equipment or data conventions. Ask a dealer for the exact battery, wheel size and homologated WLTP figure attached to the car you can order.
WLTP is a comparison test, not a guaranteed trip distance
WLTP provides a consistent laboratory-style comparison between cars. Actual energy use rises with high motorway speeds, cold weather, cabin heating, rain, gradients, roof loads and passengers. A quoted 365 km or 354 miles therefore helps rank models on paper but should not be used as a promise that a particular route will be completed without charging.
Approximate prices need a country check
Observatory prices are approximate records, not guaranteed offers. National list prices can change with VAT, registration charges, incentives, import tariffs, exchange rates, stock, options and trim. Before comparing finance or lease payments, obtain a written quote for the same battery and equipment in your country, including delivery and registration costs.
Model-by-model guide
BYD SEAL: the strongest all-round saloon choice
The SEAL is the clearest pick if your priorities are aerodynamic saloon efficiency, usable range and a price below the larger electric SUVs in this shortlist. The Observatory’s 61.4 kWh RWD Comfort record combines 365 km of range, 17 kWh/100 km consumption and an approximate €41,700 price. That efficiency figure is the lowest stated in the comparison, which matters because lower consumption can reduce the number of charging stops and the energy cost of regular driving.
BYD’s Europe page lists 354 miles WLTP for the SEAL and a 26-minute DC session from 30% to 80%. The 30–80% window is a useful road-trip measure, but it is not the time to fill the battery from empty, and charging speed normally tapers as the battery becomes fuller. Confirm the exact version because BYD says charging times vary by version.
- Choose it for: efficient long-distance driving, a saloon driving position and a mid-market purchase price.
- Check before ordering: whether the quoted price is for the 61.4 kWh RWD Comfort, the local WLTP result, wheel size, included charging equipment and the dealer’s delivery date.
- Trade-off: a saloon has a lower roof and different loading shape than an SUV, so bulky family equipment may fit less conveniently than in the SEALION 7 or a compact SUV.
XPENG G6: the charging-focused crossover
The Observatory records the G6 RWD Standard Range at 370 km, with a 66.0 kWh battery, 18 kWh/100 km efficiency, a 740 km/h fast-charge rate and an approximate €44,300 price. On the supplied figures, it offers almost the same stated range as the SEAL while using a crossover body and advertising the highest range-added charging rate in this comparison.

XPENG announced a renewed G6 for Europe on 12 June 2025. Registrations were announced for the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and France, and European order books opened on 11 July 2025. Availability outside those markets, and the trim actually delivered in each one, must be confirmed locally.
- Choose it for: a raised crossover driving position and short charging stops on routes where compatible high-power chargers are available.
- Check before ordering: whether your country has the renewed model, which battery and drive configuration the price covers, the maximum accepted charging power, and where servicing is carried out.
- Trade-off: the approximately €44,300 record is higher than the Leapmotor B10 and MG MGS5 EV records, while the stated 370 km range is not dramatically longer than theirs.
BYD SEALION 7: the larger SUV for space
The SEALION 7 is the practical step up from the SEAL. Observatory records show 400–430 km across versions using 82.5 kWh or 91.3 kWh batteries, with approximate prices from €49,300 to €58,600. The wider range band reflects variant differences; it should not be presented as one single specification.
Its larger SUV body is the reason to pay more: buyers get a format better suited to a higher seating position, family passengers and luggage than a low saloon. The price is also higher, and the larger battery and body can bring an efficiency penalty. The supplied records do not state comparable efficiency or DC charging figures for the listed SEALION 7 variants, so ask for those numbers for the exact trim rather than assuming the SEAL’s 17 kWh/100 km or 26-minute result applies.
- Choose it for: SUV practicality and additional space when the SEAL’s saloon body is restrictive.
- Check before ordering: the 82.5 kWh versus 91.3 kWh battery, drivetrain, boot configuration, charging specification and local price.
- Trade-off: it costs roughly €7,600 to €16,900 more than the recorded SEAL price, depending on variant, before country-specific taxes and options.
BYD ATTO 3: a familiar compact-SUV package
BYD quotes 260 miles WLTP for the ATTO 3 on its 2026 Europe information and 29 minutes for a 30–80% DC charge. It is the compact SUV choice for drivers who want a mainstream footprint rather than a saloon or a large SEALION 7.
The supplied Observatory records should be used to identify the correct country-specific ATTO 3 trim and price. No single Europe-wide price is reliable enough here because equipment and availability differ by market. Confirm battery capacity, drive configuration, charging hardware, warranty wording and delivery status on the local offer.
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose it for: an easy-to-place compact SUV body and BYD’s established European model presence.
- Check before ordering: whether the 260-mile WLTP figure belongs to the exact model year and battery being quoted, and whether the advertised 29-minute session applies to that version.
- Trade-off: its published WLTP range is shorter than the SEAL’s 354-mile claim, while the Observatory price is not stated as one Europe-wide figure.
BYD DOLPHIN: the hatchback alternative
The DOLPHIN is worth considering if you want a smaller hatchback rather than an SUV. BYD’s 2026 Europe page quotes 265 miles WLTP and 28 minutes from 30% to 80% on DC. Those numbers make it a potential long-range small-car option on paper, although the supplied figures do not establish a common European price, battery size or efficiency value.
Rank #3
- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
- PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
- CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
Use the same verification process as for the ATTO 3: match the local trim, battery and wheels to the WLTP certificate, then confirm charging equipment and dealer support. A hatchback’s shorter body can be easier to park, but cargo height and rear-seat space should be assessed in person if it will carry a family or bulky equipment.
MG MGS5 EV: a value-oriented family SUV
The Observatory lists the 64 kWh MGS5 EV at 365 km and approximately €41,100. That places it close to the recorded SEAL price while offering an SUV body. The available record does not state a comparable efficiency figure, charging time or charging-power value, so those are essential questions for a dealer.
- Choose it for: SUV practicality at a listed price slightly below the Observatory SEAL record.
- Check before ordering: DC charging time, battery warranty, included driver-assistance equipment, boot dimensions and the servicing location for your postcode.
- Trade-off: without a stated efficiency or charging figure, it is harder to rank its running costs and road-trip convenience against the SEAL and G6.
Leapmotor B10: the price-led option
The B10 has the lowest listed price in this dataset: approximately €31,700 for the recorded 67.1 kWh version, with 365 km of range. That makes it the first car to investigate when purchase price matters more than brand familiarity or maximum charging information.

Price alone is not enough to establish value. Verify the local warranty, parts supply, delivery date, software support and service network before signing. The supplied record does not state B10 efficiency, DC charging time or charge-power capability, so a lower entry price could be offset by less convenient charging or ownership arrangements depending on the market.
- Choose it for: the lowest approximate purchase price among the listed models.
- Check before ordering: who provides warranty repairs, where parts are stocked, the exact battery version, charging performance and roadside assistance.
- Trade-off: its 365 km stated range matches the SEAL and MGS5 EV records, but those records do not prove equal efficiency, equipment or support.
Which car offers the best range for the money?
There is no single answer until “money” means the same thing in the same country. Using the approximate Observatory prices and ranges only as a rough screen, the Leapmotor B10 stands out for its €31,700 record and 365 km figure. The MG MGS5 EV and BYD SEAL also show 365 km, at approximately €41,100 and €41,700 respectively. The XPENG G6 records 370 km for about €44,300, while the larger SEALION 7 records 400–430 km for about €49,300–€58,600.
That simple comparison hides important differences: body size, battery capacity, efficiency, equipment, taxes, finance rates and after-sales support. The SEAL’s stated 17 kWh/100 km efficiency is the only directly supplied consumption figure in this group, and the G6’s 740 km/h Observatory charging figure may be more valuable to a high-mileage driver than a small range difference. A useful buying calculation is to compare the exact local drive-away price, usable battery, certified WLTP range, charging time and annual energy consumption for matching trims.

The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway.
- HARDWIRED - PROFESSIONAL INSTALL: This Level 2 charger is hardwired (not plug-in), so a licensed electrician installs it per National Electrical Code. It delivers up to 48A on a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit - enough to charge most EVs fully overnight. Want more speed? You can set DIP switches 4 and 5 to unlock 50A on a dedicated 70A circuit. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that your electrical panel can support the circuit.
- CONTROL FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start and stop charging, set the charging speed (6-48A), get reminders, and track how much energy and money each charge uses. Requires a 2.4 GHz home WiFi network.
Charging in everyday European use
Home charging
None of the supplied records establishes a universal home-charging installation, cable or electricity tariff. Ask the dealer which onboard charger and cable are included, then have an installer confirm that your home supply can support the intended charging rate. A cheaper vehicle can become less convenient if it requires frequent public charging because home charging is unavailable.

BYD’s published 30–80% times are 29 minutes for the ATTO 3, 28 minutes for the DOLPHIN and 26 minutes for the SEAL. These are manufacturer figures for the stated charge window, and BYD says times vary by version. The Observatory lists 420 km/h for the recorded SEAL and 740 km/h for the recorded G6; those values are range-added rates under the database’s methodology, not promises that every charger will deliver that speed.
For a road trip, check the charging network along the route, connector compatibility, payment method, parking limits and whether the station’s power is shared. Plan to arrive with a buffer rather than targeting zero percent, because cold batteries, congestion and a full station can all extend a stop.

Safety evidence
BYD says many of its electric cars have five-star Euro NCAP ratings and reports at least 87% adult-occupant protection and 86% child-occupant protection for its 2023 models. Those statements are from BYD and should not be treated as a blanket result for every model, year or battery. Check the exact Euro NCAP result and test date for the trim you are buying, including whether optional safety equipment is required for the rating.
Warranty and repairs
Warranty duration, battery coverage, exclusions and roadside assistance are country- and importer-dependent in the supplied information. Obtain the terms in writing, including the battery-capacity threshold, corrosion cover, software updates, towing and the process for a high-voltage fault. For newer or less widely distributed brands, ask who performs repairs, how long common parts normally take to arrive and whether a courtesy vehicle is included.

European availability can change quickly. The G6 renewal, for example, was announced for specific markets and opened for European orders on a stated 2025 timetable; that does not guarantee current stock or support in every country. Before paying a deposit, confirm a physical service location, opening hours, diagnostic capability, app availability, data handling, map updates and what happens if the importer changes.

How to choose by driving priority
Mostly motorway and long-distance travel
Start with the SEAL if efficiency and a saloon are acceptable. Compare the G6 if fast charging and a crossover driving position matter more. The SEALION 7 makes sense when its additional SUV space outweighs its higher price and likely energy use.
Family use and bulky luggage
Inspect the SEALION 7, ATTO 3 and MGS5 EV first, then compare rear-seat access, boot opening, loading height and child-seat space in person. The DOLPHIN can work for a smaller household, but its hatchback dimensions should be checked against your equipment rather than inferred from its range figure.
Lowest purchase price
Investigate the B10 first, followed by the MGS5 EV and SEAL records. Make the decision only after adding registration, delivery, finance, charging installation and the value of the local warranty and repair network.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Smallest practical footprint
The DOLPHIN is the hatchback choice in this list, while the ATTO 3 is the compact-SUV alternative. Compare turning circle, parking width and rear-seat space locally; WLTP range does not reveal how easy a car is to use in a dense city.
Country-by-country buying checklist
- Find the manufacturer’s national configurator or an authorised dealer and record the exact model year, battery, drivetrain, wheels and options.
- Request the drive-away price in euros or local currency, including VAT, registration, delivery, documentation and any incentive assumptions.
- Match the quoted car to its certified WLTP range and charging specification; do not combine a headline figure from one trim with a price from another.
- Obtain the full warranty, battery-capacity guarantee, roadside-assistance and servicing terms in writing.
- Check the nearest authorised workshop, parts process, diagnostic support and expected software-update method.
- Confirm which public-charging connectors, cables and payment apps work with the car in your country.
- Arrange a test drive with your normal passengers and luggage, then test visibility, seat comfort, boot access and driver-assistance behaviour.
- Calculate energy cost using your real electricity and public-charging mix, allowing for winter and motorway consumption above the WLTP result.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Comparing kilometres and miles as if they came from one test: identify the source, version and cycle for every range number.
- Treating an approximate database price as a retail offer: verify the local drive-away quote and what equipment is included.
- Reading km/h charging data as kW: use the stated charge window and the car’s accepted power when planning stops.
- Assuming a brand-wide safety score: check the exact Euro NCAP model and test year.
- Ignoring after-sales support: a low purchase price is less attractive if warranty repairs, parts or software support are difficult to obtain.
- Planning around WLTP alone: reserve extra time and battery for cold weather, high speed, heating, hills and payload.
Bottom line
For a balanced European shortlist, begin with the BYD SEAL, XPENG G6 and BYD SEALION 7, then test the BYD ATTO 3, MG MGS5 EV and Leapmotor B10 against your space and budget requirements. The SEAL is the most convincing efficiency-and-range saloon on the supplied figures; the G6 is the charging-led crossover; the SEALION 7 is the spacious SUV; and the B10 is the price-led gamble that demands the most careful local warranty and service check. Your final choice should be the exact trim that has a verifiable local price, charging specification, safety result and support network—not simply the model with the largest headline range.
