The 2025 BMW M5 is the top-ranked model in the CarBuzz list, but it is not automatically the best BMW for every buyer. The Z4 suits open-air driving, the X3 is the practical all-rounder, the i4 M50 is the electric performance choice, the X6 M delivers SUV drama, and the 2026 iX emphasizes quiet electric luxury and range. The list also mixes model years, so the iX should remain labeled as a 2026 model.
There is no single best BMW for every driver. In the CarBuzz ordering associated with “Best BMW Models CarBuzz Tested In 2025,” the 2025 BMW M5 Sedan takes the top spot for its combination of explosive performance and executive-car usability. The 2025 BMW Z4 is the better choice for open-air involvement, the 2025 BMW X3 is the most broadly useful, and the 2025 BMW i4 M50 is the standout electric performance sedan. The 2025 BMW X6 M adds high-performance SUV theater, while the 2026 BMW iX is the comfort- and range-oriented electric SUV.

One important clarification: the indexed CarBuzz list mixes model years. Five vehicles are identified as 2025 models, but the iX entry is a 2026 model. The ranking should therefore be understood as a list of BMWs associated with the feature, not as six vehicles from the same model year. Also, the available research does not disclose a numerical CarBuzz scoring system, so the order is best treated as an editorial ranking rather than a laboratory-style overall score.

1. 2025 BMW M5 Sedan: best for maximum performance with daily usability
The M5 is the obvious pick for readers who want one car to combine executive-sedan comfort, electrified commuting capability, and supercar-level acceleration. Its M Hybrid system pairs a twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor, and BMW lists 717 horsepower with standard M xDrive all-wheel drive.
Independent testing gives the M5’s performance some useful context. Car and Driver recorded a 3.0-second 0–60-mph run for the 2025 model. BMW’s later model-page material lists a 3.4-second preliminary figure, so those numbers should not be presented as conflicting claims about the same test. The former is an independent result; the latter is a manufacturer estimate or preliminary figure.
The M5’s plug-in-hybrid capability makes it more versatile than a conventional V8 performance sedan. It can handle commuting and everyday duties while retaining immense acceleration when the road opens up. The tradeoff is weight: the hybrid hardware makes this generation unusually heavy. Cars.com found the technology impressive but criticized the added complexity and suggested that the car is less emotionally engaging than some lighter rivals.

Look elsewhere if: steering feel, low mass, and mechanical simplicity matter more to you than straight-line speed and all-weather traction.
2. 2025 BMW Z4 M40i: best for open-air driving and driver interaction
The Z4 makes the list for a different reason. It is not the most practical BMW here, nor is it the most technologically ambitious. Its appeal is the classic roadster formula: a low seating position, a folding roof, rear-wheel drive, and a turbocharged inline-six.
The Z4 M40i produces 382 horsepower. BMW quotes a 3.9-second 0–60-mph time with the automatic transmission and 4.2 seconds with the manual. The available Handschalter package adds a six-speed manual transmission, an increasingly unusual feature among new luxury roadsters.
That manual gearbox is central to the Z4’s character. It gives buyers an option that the all-wheel-drive M5, X3 M50, i4 M50, X6 M, and iX do not offer: a more direct, deliberate driving experience in which the driver has a greater role in managing the car’s performance.
The Z4’s limitations are just as clear. Its two-seat cabin and roadster body restrict passenger and cargo utility, and its appeal depends heavily on whether you value open-air driving. The CarBuzz ordering identifies it as a strong model, but the available material does not establish that it won a quantified handling or engagement test.
Choose the Z4 if: you want the most traditional enthusiast experience in this group and can live with two seats.
Look elsewhere if: you need family-friendly space, frequent rear-seat access, or a practical year-round cargo carrier.
3. 2025 BMW X3: best all-rounder
The X3 is the easiest BMW here to recommend without knowing every detail of the buyer’s lifestyle. It offers family utility, manageable dimensions, available all-wheel drive, comfortable seating, and a meaningful performance upgrade in M50 form.

- Die Cast Metal Body
- PULL BACK ACTION WITH FREE ROLLING WHEELS
The standard X3 30 xDrive uses a 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. BMW’s technical information lists 31.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity and a six-second preliminary 0–60-mph time.
For drivers who want more urgency, the X3 M50 xDrive raises output to 393 horsepower. It uses a turbocharged inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance and has a 4.4-second preliminary 0–60-mph time. That makes the X3 M50 quick enough to satisfy performance-minded drivers while preserving the basic utility that makes an SUV useful.
The X3 does not have the visual drama of the X6 M or the outright acceleration of the M5. That is precisely its strength. It is the compromise vehicle in the best sense: less specialized than the Z4, less demanding than a high-performance SUV, and more practical than the low-slung i4.
Choose the X3 if: one vehicle must cover commuting, family duties, road trips, winter weather, and occasional enthusiastic driving.
Choose the X3 M50 rather than the 30 xDrive if: performance is a priority but you do not want to accept the price, size, or extreme character of the M5 or X6 M.
4. 2025 BMW i4 M50: best electric performance value within this group
The i4 M50 is a four-door electric Gran Coupe for buyers who want performance without moving into an SUV. Its dual electric motors provide all-wheel drive, while BMW M-oriented chassis tuning gives it a more athletic brief than a purely comfort-focused EV.
BMW lists 536 horsepower and a 3.7-second 0–60-mph time. Its estimated range is listed at 227 to 269 miles, rather than as one guaranteed number. Wheel and tire selection, ambient temperature, driving style, traffic, and charging behavior can all affect real-world range.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe i4 M50’s key advantage is its familiar sedan-like format. It sits lower than an SUV and feels more like a performance BMW than many electric crossovers, while its instant motor response makes it extremely quick in everyday traffic.
The important compromise is efficiency. The M50’s extra performance hardware and all-wheel-drive layout reduce estimated range compared with less powerful i4 versions. Buyers who regularly make long highway trips should compare charging stops and winter-range expectations, not just the headline horsepower number.
Home charging also deserves attention before purchase. A BMW i4 home charger or other J1772-compatible Level 2 EV charger can make daily charging more convenient, but the connector, amperage, electrical-panel capacity, and installation requirements must be checked for the specific vehicle and home. Electrical work may require a qualified electrician.
Choose the i4 M50 if: you want fast, all-wheel-drive electric performance in a lower, sedan-like body.

5. 2025 BMW X6 M: best for high-performance SUV theater
The X6 M is the style-first performance SUV in this group. Its coupe-like roofline, aggressive proportions, and M hardware give it considerably more visual presence than the X3. BMW’s M information lists the X6 M Competition at 617 horsepower and a 3.7-second preliminary 0–60-mph time.
Its mission is not to be the rational cargo choice. The X6 M delivers the high driving position and presence of an SUV while adding the power and chassis capability expected of an M vehicle. It will appeal to buyers who want a dramatic luxury vehicle that can accelerate with sports-car urgency.
The X3 remains the more rational utility choice. A coupe-like roofline can affect rear-seat space, loading flexibility, and outward practicality, and the available research does not support claiming that the X6 M has more usable cargo space than the X3. The distinction is therefore straightforward: choose the X6 M for style and performance theater, not because it is the most efficient way to transport people or equipment.

Choose the X6 M if: you want a powerful, visually imposing SUV and are willing to trade some practicality for its shape and performance.
Choose the X3 instead if: cargo access, everyday maneuverability, and rational utility matter more than dramatic design.
6. 2026 BMW iX: best for electric luxury-SUV comfort
The iX broadens the list beyond M cars and sports models. Although the feature title refers to BMWs tested by CarBuzz in 2025, this entry is identified as the 2026 BMW iX. It should not be silently relabeled as a 2025 vehicle.
BMW lists the iX xDrive50 at an estimated 305–311 miles of range, while the iX M60 is estimated at 296 miles. As with the i4, these are estimates rather than guarantees. Equipment, wheels and tires, temperature, speed, traffic, and charging habits all influence the distance an owner can actually cover.
The iX is best understood as the comfort and long-distance EV choice. Its electric powertrain supports quiet cruising, while the SUV body provides the seating position and space many buyers prefer. The M60 brings more performance, but the iX’s primary advantage over the i4 M50 is not sharper handling; it is a more relaxed, premium electric-SUV experience with stronger range figures in xDrive50 form.
Choose the iX if: quiet operation, SUV seating, electric range, and long-distance comfort are higher priorities than traditional sports-sedan feedback.
Choose the i4 M50 instead if: you want a lower driving position and a more overtly performance-oriented electric BMW.
A Level 2 setup can be worthwhile for either EV. Search for a BMW iX Level 2 charger or a compatible J1772 EV charger, then verify the exact connector and charging specification before buying. A charger is only as useful as the home circuit supporting it, so installation capacity should be assessed first.
Which BMW should you choose?
- Pick the 2025 M5 for maximum speed, executive comfort, plug-in-hybrid capability, and all-weather performance.
- Pick the 2025 Z4 M40i for open-air driving, rear-wheel-drive balance, and the option of a six-speed manual.
- Pick the 2025 X3 for the broadest mix of practicality, manageable size, comfort, and available performance.
- Pick the 2025 i4 M50 for fast electric driving in a sedan-like body, provided its estimated range suits your routine.
- Pick the 2025 X6 M for maximum SUV presence and high-performance spectacle rather than maximum utility.
- Pick the 2026 iX for quiet electric-SUV luxury, a higher seating position, and stronger estimated range in xDrive50 form.
Ownership considerations before you buy
The right accessory depends on the BMW and how it will be used. These products solve specific ownership problems, but none is universally compatible simply because it carries a BMW-related label.

Protecting a BMW stored outdoors
A BMW car cover can make sense for any of the six vehicles if the car will be parked outside for extended periods. Choose a vehicle-specific cover and verify the exact model year, body style, mirror pockets, antenna provisions, and dimensions. A cover designed for a Z4 should not be assumed to fit an X3, and a generic “BMW” listing is not enough evidence of fit.
Diagnostics for maintenance-minded owners
A BMW-compatible OBD2 scanner can help a DIY owner read selected fault information and monitor some vehicle data, but device capabilities vary substantially. Not every scanner can access every BMW control module, and a consumer tool does not replace professional diagnosis. Confirm coverage for the exact model year, powertrain, and systems you intend to scan before buying.
Battery support for gasoline and plug-in-hybrid models
A BMW battery maintainer may be useful when an ICE or plug-in-hybrid BMW is parked for long periods. The M5 is a plug-in hybrid, while several other models in the list use conventional 12-volt systems. Check the vehicle’s instructions, the maintainer’s voltage and connection method, and whether it is approved for the relevant battery arrangement. Do not assume that a 12-volt maintainer services every part of a hybrid system.

Charging the i4 M50 or iX at home
For the electric BMWs, home Level 2 charging can be more useful than a collection of generic accessories. Verify the charger connector, amperage, charging speed, electrical-panel capacity, cable length, and installation requirements. If the home needs a new circuit or panel work, use a qualified electrician and include that cost and lead time in the buying decision.
How this ranking should be interpreted
The ordering is attributed to the CarBuzz feature identified by the title, but the exact live article and publication details should be verified before publication because the available research recovered the list through an indexed result rather than the directly retrievable page. The evidence supports comparisons of power, acceleration, configuration, cargo capacity, and estimated range. It does not support a reliability, resale-value, maintenance-cost, or owner-satisfaction ranking.
More importantly, “best” changes with the assignment. The M5 is the performance benchmark, but the Z4 may be more rewarding to a driver who wants a manual roadster. The X3 is less dramatic but far easier to live with. The i4 M50 offers electric speed in a sedan format, while the iX prioritizes quiet range and comfort. The X6 M is the choice for buyers who want the most theatrical SUV. The best BMW is therefore the one whose compromises match your priorities.
