The 2022 Suzuki Burgman 400 is a premium maxi-scooter for riders who want automatic, low-effort transportation without giving up useful highway ability. Its 400cc single-cylinder engine, CVT transmission, ABS, traction-control functionality, weather protection, 755mm seat, 13.5-liter fuel tank, and substantial 218kg curb mass give it a broader mission than a small city scooter. It is particularly well suited to commuting, touring, and mixed urban-and-faster-road use.

The trade-off is size. The same full-size platform that brings stability, comfort, and carrying potential also makes the Burgman more demanding to push, reverse, or balance through a tight parking area than a lightweight commuter scooter. The 2022 model is best understood as an updated version of Suzuki’s established Burgman formula—not as an entirely new type of motorcycle.

What changed on the 2022 Burgman 400?
Suzuki’s 2022 update combined styling, engine, chassis, and equipment revisions. The most notable changes and additions were:
#1 Best Overall
- High Resistance ABS Shell With Micrometrically Adjustable Strap
- Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
- Helmet Liner / Cheek Pads are Lightweight, Soft and Easily Removable and Washable
- Sleek and Lightweight Design Reduces Wind Noise
- Modular Flip-Up Function Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fog and Wide View Clear Visor
- Easy Start starting technology
- Updated fuel injection and improved throttle control
- Euro 5-related engine and emissions updates in markets where that standard applies
- A 15-inch cast front wheel
- Twin 260mm front brake rotors
- A 210mm rear hydraulic disc brake
- ABS and traction-control functionality
The engine revisions included updated internal parts, optimized combustion, and a revised catalytic-converter design. These changes were intended to meet stricter emissions requirements while preserving the Burgman 400’s low- and midrange usability.
2022 Suzuki Burgman 400 performance
The Burgman uses a 400cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder DOHC engine with fuel injection. Suzuki lists an 81.0mm bore, 77.6mm stroke, and 10.6:1 compression ratio. A continuously variable transmission, or CVT, sends power to the rear wheel, so there is no clutch lever or manual gear selection: twist the throttle and go.
Suzuki describes the revised engine as producing strong low-to-midrange torque and a more refined experience as revs rise during highway cruising. That is the manufacturer’s positioning rather than an independent instrumented test, but it accurately describes the Burgman’s intended role. This is a road-capable maxi-scooter, not a lightweight sport scooter designed primarily for rapid changes of direction.
Compared with a small urban scooter, the 400cc engine gives the Burgman a more convincing margin for faster roads and two-up or luggage-carrying use. The CVT also makes stop-and-go traffic simple and reduces the workload that comes with repeated clutch operation. Exact acceleration, top-speed, and fuel-economy figures vary by market, rider, conditions, and test method, so a single universal number would be misleading.
The 218kg curb mass and 1,580mm wheelbase should be considered part of the performance picture. They favor composure and road stability, but they also make low-speed maneuvering and manual repositioning more effort-intensive than on a small scooter. That is an inference from the published specifications, not a claim of personal road testing.
Brakes, suspension, and handling hardware
Suspension consists of a 41mm telescopic front fork with 110mm of travel and a link-type rear monoshock with 100mm of wheel travel. The rear spring has seven-way preload adjustment, allowing the setup to be adapted for rider weight, luggage, or a passenger.
Braking hardware is substantial for a scooter in this class:

- Front: twin 260mm discs
- Rear: 210mm hydraulic disc
- Electronic assistance: ABS and traction-control functionality
ABS monitors wheel speed and modulates braking intervention when it detects a risk of lockup. It does not guarantee a shorter stopping distance and cannot prevent every skid, particularly when braking while cornering or on a surface with very limited grip. Traction control is likewise a rider aid, not a substitute for appropriate speed, tires, or smooth throttle control.
The instrument display adds useful touring information, including range and instant fuel consumption. An Eco Drive Indicator in the tachometer helps show when riding technique is relatively efficient. Neither feature guarantees a particular fuel-economy result.
Wheels and road manners
A 15-inch cast front wheel is one of the Burgman’s key chassis features. It uses a 120/70-15 tubeless tire. The rear has a 13-inch wheel with a 150/70-13 tubeless tire. Suzuki links the larger front wheel with stability and maneuverability, while the maxi-scooter layout provides a longer, more substantial platform than an ordinary commuter scooter.
The specification suggests a scooter that should feel more planted on open roads than a small-wheel urban model, while remaining easier to operate in traffic because of its automatic transmission. The cost is physical bulk. Buyers who routinely need to push a motorcycle backward uphill, squeeze through a narrow garage, or make repeated feet-up U-turns should evaluate the Burgman in person before buying.
Dimensions, seat height, and rider fit
| Specification | 2022 Burgman 400 |
|---|---|
| Length | 2,235mm |
| Width | 765mm |
| Height | 1,350mm |
| Wheelbase | 1,580mm |
| Ground clearance | 125mm |
| Seat height | 755mm |
| Curb mass | 218kg |
| Fuel capacity | 13.5 liters |
| Front tire | 120/70-15 tubeless |
| Rear tire | 150/70-13 tubeless |
A 755mm seat height may look approachable for a maxi-scooter, but the number does not tell the whole story. Seat width, the rider’s inseam, footwear, suspension sag, and the scooter’s 218kg mass all affect how easy it is to get both feet down or reverse the machine. Suzuki’s specification should therefore be treated as a useful starting point, not a promise that every rider will flat-foot the Burgman.
Comfort, weather protection, and practicality
The Burgman 400’s appeal is as much about reducing effort as it is about engine size. The automatic drivetrain simplifies commuting, while the bodywork and screen provide the weather protection expected from a touring-oriented maxi-scooter. The riding position and long chassis are intended to support longer trips as well as daily transport.
Suzuki’s official accessory material identifies a long screen that is 7.5cm higher than the standard screen and heated grips. These can make sense for riders who regularly travel in cold or wet conditions, although the benefit depends on rider height, climate, and the amount of wind protection desired.

The Burgman also has a practical storage-focused design, but Suzuki’s official material reviewed for this model does not provide a verified under-seat storage capacity figure for the 2022 U.S. version. It is better to inspect the storage compartment with your actual helmet, rain gear, or work bag than to rely on an unverified volume claim.
Top-case hardware, covers, phone mounts, chargers, batteries, windshields, brake pads, and other model-filtered items are available through motorcycle-parts catalogs. 2022 Suzuki Burgman 400 price
The original U.S. MSRP for the 2022 Suzuki Burgman 400 was $8,499. That is the bike’s original suggested new price, not a guarantee of what a used example should cost today.
Published valuation references show why a range is more useful than one definitive number:
| Reference | Published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Kelley Blue Book | $4,650 | Typical listing-price figure for a 2022 model in good condition with typical mileage |
| J.D. Power | $5,260 low retail | Lower reference valuation category |
| J.D. Power | $6,920 average retail | Higher reference valuation category |
| Original U.S. MSRP | $8,499 | Original suggested list price when new |
These are benchmarks, not completed-sale guarantees. Actual prices depend on mileage, service records, tire and brake condition, battery health, cosmetic damage, title status, location, dealer or private-party sale, accessories, and whether the machine is an unsold leftover rather than a used motorcycle. A clean, well-documented example can justify more than a neglected scooter with attractive cosmetic accessories.

Used 2022 Burgman 400 inspection checklist
Before agreeing on a price, check:
- Service records and evidence of routine oil and filter changes
- Cold starting, idle quality, throttle response, and smooth CVT engagement
- Tire age, tread depth, cracking, and correct sizes
- Front and rear brake-pad thickness, disc condition, and ABS warning-light behavior
- Battery condition and the operation of Easy Start
- Fork seals, rear shock condition, and signs of accident damage
- Body panels, mirrors, screen, fasteners, and under-seat storage hardware
- Operation of lights, switches, display functions, traction-control indicators, and heated accessories if fitted
- VIN, title, registration, recall or campaign history where applicable, and any outstanding finance
Accessory quality matters too. A poorly installed top case, electrical accessory, or phone mount can create more problems than value. Ask for original parts when available and inspect wiring for amateur splices, exposed connectors, or routing near hot or moving components.
Maintenance and ownership costs
The 400cc single is mechanically more substantial than a basic commuter scooter, and ownership costs should be assessed accordingly. Consumables include engine oil and filters, air-filter service items, spark-plug service, tires, brake pads, brake fluid, battery replacement, and CVT-related inspection or service. Exact service intervals and fluid specifications should come from the owner’s manual or a Suzuki dealer for the relevant market; they should not be guessed from a generic scooter schedule.

For routine replacement shopping, a model-specific Suzuki Burgman 400 oil filter is a sensible starting point. Confirm the year, model, part number, seller details, and fitment before ordering—especially when a marketplace search returns parts for multiple Burgman generations.
A fitment-based 2022 Burgman 400 replacement parts search can also help locate compatible batteries, brake pads, covers, chargers, phone mounts, windscreens, and top-case hardware. Universal parts still require careful checking of dimensions, electrical load, mounting points, and warranty implications.

Genuine Suzuki accessories
Suzuki’s genuine accessory material identifies touring and comfort equipment such as the taller screen, grip heaters, covers, decals, and valve-stem caps. The global accessory catalog includes Burgman 400 fitment information for models from 2018 onward, but regional catalogs, pricing, and stock can differ.
For factory-fit equipment, start with Suzuki Burgman 400 accessories, then confirm availability and compatibility with an authorized Suzuki dealer in your market. Riders focused on cold-weather commuting may prioritize Burgman 400 heated grips; taller riders or those seeking more wind coverage may instead investigate the Burgman 400 long screen.

Who should buy the 2022 Burgman 400?
The Burgman 400 is a strong match for a rider who wants:
- Twist-and-go convenience rather than a manual gearbox
- More open-road ability than a small-displacement scooter
- Wind protection and a comfortable touring-oriented riding position
- ABS, traction-control functionality, and useful rider information
- A substantial chassis for commuting, luggage, and longer rides
It is less suitable for someone who prioritizes minimal weight, very tight urban maneuverability, or the sharpest possible sporting response. Before purchase, sit on one and try the low-speed ergonomics, center-stand or parking movements, reach to the controls, and available storage with your normal gear.
Verdict
The 2022 Suzuki Burgman 400 succeeds by combining a capable 400cc engine with the convenience and practicality of a maxi-scooter. The 2022 updates—Easy Start, revised fuel and emissions technology, the 15-inch front wheel, upgraded braking hardware, ABS, and traction-control functionality—make it a well-equipped choice for riders who divide their time between city streets and faster roads.

Buyers who accept that size will get a comfortable, automatic, weather-protected platform with credible touring potential. In the U.S., the $8,499 original MSRP and current reference values of roughly $4,650 to $6,920 provide useful context, but condition and service history should determine the final used-bike decision.
