For glare reduction alone, the VOXX ADVGEN2A is a straightforward option; the ADVGEN40A4 adds HomeLink, the ADVGEN45AB5 adds a compass as well, and the ADVGEN352EXP adds a small rear-camera display. None should be treated as a universal fit or as a proven crash-prevention upgrade: confirm your mirror mount, wiring and vehicle compatibility before ordering.
What an automatic-dimming rearview mirror does
An auto-dimming interior mirror detects bright light from behind and darkens its reflective surface to reduce glare. Gentex, a mirror manufacturer, describes its system as using light sensors, electrochromic material and microprocessor-based algorithms to detect glare and adjust the mirror. That explains the intended function; it is not independent evidence that a particular retrofit prevents crashes.
It is a convenience and visibility aid, not a substitute for a clear windshield, properly adjusted mirrors or attentive driving. It also addresses glare in the interior mirror; the products discussed here are not a guarantee that glare from side mirrors or other sources will be eliminated.
Which aftermarket mirror fits your priorities?
VOXX’s official catalog includes several configurations. These are examples, not an exhaustive market survey or independently tested rankings. The listed features do not establish which model performs best at reducing glare.

Check fitment before you buy
“Most vehicles” is broad compatibility language, not confirmation that a specific mirror fits your car. The correct kit depends on the vehicle and the hardware already installed. Verify the following for your exact year, make and model:

- Mount: Identify the mirror’s mounting button or bracket type. Check whether the kit includes the required adapter or lists it as an accessory.
- Wiring: Confirm what electrical connections the mirror needs and whether your vehicle has compatible wiring. Do not assume a mount adapter solves electrical compatibility.
- Features: Check HomeLink compatibility with your connected devices. For the ADVGEN352EXP, confirm the camera is compatible and account for the fact that it is sold separately.
- Installation support: Review the model-specific manual or ask the seller before ordering if mount, adapter or wiring details are unclear.
Ask the retailer to confirm fit against the vehicle and existing mirror hardware rather than relying on a generic fit claim. The available product listings do not establish a complete vehicle-by-vehicle fit chart.
Where to buy and how to get installation help
Gentex identifies VOXX Electronics as its aftermarket distributor and directs buyers to VOXX or an OEM dealer parts/accessory group for supported aftermarket purchases. For installation guidance, Gentex says to consult the manual included with the product or contact the company or person who sold it. If you are not comfortable confirming the wiring or installing the mirror, ask the seller or a qualified installer to assess the vehicle before purchase. Support and fit confirmation are part of the buying decision, not details to sort out after installation begins.

A conventional auto-dimming mirror reduces glare in the reflected view. A Full Display Mirror is a different kind of product: it can show a camera view when passengers, cargo or vehicle design block the ordinary rear view. The reflected mirror view can serve as a fallback if the camera or display is obstructed or fails. Choose a digital display for a blocked-rear-view problem, not simply because you want glare reduction; the ADVGEN352EXP’s 3.5-inch camera display is a feature in an auto-dimming mirror, not the same thing as a full-display replacement mirror. What the safety evidence does—and does not—show
Reducing harsh glare may make the reflected view more comfortable, but the available product information does not establish that installing an aftermarket auto-dimming mirror reduces crashes. Gentex’s auto-dimming and glare page says nighttime glare can reduce contrast and claims its mirrors can reduce glare by up to 94%. The same page cites a claim that stopping distances can increase by up to 90%. These are manufacturer-page claims; the page does not provide the study design needed to treat the figures as guaranteed effects for every driver or vehicle.
That page also attributes self-reported survey results to TÜV Rheinland and the FIA’s European Survey Glare On Road Traffic. The page gives no year for either survey. TÜV Rheinland figures reported there are 87% of drivers bothered by glare, 92% who say auto-dimming mirrors make driving safer, and 85% who believe they help prevent accidents. FIA figures reported there are 71% who find glare unbearable or annoying, 32% who regularly or almost always feel dazzled, 51% who pinch or briefly close their eyes, 58% who have difficulty perceiving nearby objects, and 30% who report a lingering afterimage or pain. These are attributed survey responses, not measured crash reductions or proof that any specific aftermarket model delivers a particular safety outcome.
