There is no single best automatic car under ₹25 lakh in India. The right choice depends first on whether your limit is ex-showroom or on-road, then on seating, body style, fuel or electric powertrain, transmission type and the exact variant available in your city. On the official prices available for 2026, the most clearly documented shortlists are the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Verna, Hyundai Alcazar, Hyundai Creta Electric, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate.
This guide uses ex-showroom prices unless a city is named. Registration, road tax, insurance, handling charges and accessories can push an apparently eligible variant above a ₹25 lakh on-road ceiling. Treat every figure as a starting point for an itemised local quote, not as the final amount payable.

Ex-showroom and on-road are different budgets
An ex-showroom price is the manufacturer’s listed vehicle price before state registration, road tax, insurance and other purchase charges. An on-road price is what you actually need to register and drive the car. The difference varies by state, city, engine or battery category, insurance choice and optional equipment.

Why the model badge is not enough
“Automatic” covers several mechanically different arrangements. The evidence for this shortlist includes IVT and CVT units, dual-clutch gearboxes sold as DCT or DSG, torque-converter automatics, conventional automatic transmissions and the single-speed automatic drive used by an electric car. Gearbox, engine, equipment and price can all change with the trim. Compare a specific variant, not just a model name.
Confirmed automatic options at a glance
The table uses official manufacturer figures available for 2026. A range is the maker’s ex-showroom range for the model, not a promise that every automatic trim falls below ₹25 lakh in your city.

How each documented candidate fits different buyers
Hyundai Creta: the broadest mainstream shortlist
The Creta is the most flexible starting point in this group because Hyundai lists petrol and diesel engines, several automatic formats and a five-seat SUV body. That breadth lets you choose around traffic, highway use or fuel preference, but it also makes the trim sheet essential. Hyundai states that transmissions and equipment vary by trim.

Confirm the exact safety and convenience equipment on the quotation for the automatic trim you select; a feature shown in a brochure or on a top variant should not be assumed to be standard on every gearbox combination.
Choose the Creta when you want a familiar five-seat SUV and the ability to trade off engine, gearbox and equipment within one model family. It is less suitable if you need a third row or if your budget is a firm on-road ₹25 lakh and you are considering the upper end of the listed range.
Hyundai Verna: a sedan alternative with two automatic formats
The Verna keeps the five-seat, front-wheel-drive sedan format for buyers who do not need SUV ground clearance or a taller seating position. Hyundai lists petrol power with DCT and IVT automatic choices. The DCT and IVT are not interchangeable buying decisions: compare the engine paired with each gearbox, the equipment of the corresponding trim and the way you expect to drive in heavy traffic or on open roads.

It is a logical shortlist for a mostly urban owner who values a conventional boot and sedan driving position. Check rear-seat and boot requirements in person, especially if the same budget could buy an SUV with a more flexible cargo opening.

Hyundai Alcazar: when six or seven seats matter
The Alcazar is the only documented Hyundai option here with six- or seven-seat configurations. Petrol and diesel powertrains are listed, along with automatic and DCT choices. Decide first whether you need six captain-style seats or a seven-seat bench arrangement, then identify which automatic gearbox is actually offered with that layout.
Do not compare an Alcazar’s price with a five-seat SUV without including the value of the additional row, the space it consumes and the frequency with which adults will use it. A local test drive should include all rows occupied or folded, because the usable luggage space depends on the seating position.
Hyundai Creta Electric: an electric option close to the ceiling
The Creta Electric is listed with a 42 kWh or 51.4 kWh battery and automatic drive for five occupants. Its ex-showroom range reaches ₹24.70 lakh, leaving little room under a ₹25 lakh on-road cap once registration, insurance and taxes are added. If your limit is on-road, ask for the exact city total before treating any upper-trim battery or equipment combination as eligible.
Choose the battery and trim only after checking your charging situation. Ask the dealer to itemise the vehicle, home-charging equipment if offered, installation, insurance and local incentives. The figures supplied for this model establish battery choices and pricing, but they do not establish a common independent range test; use the manufacturer’s stated specifications and your own route and charging pattern when deciding.

The same release describes a new eight-speed automatic for the 1.0-litre TSI. The higher-performance listed trims use DSG, so do not treat “Taigun automatic” as one transmission. Confirm the engine, gearbox, equipment and dealer stock on the current price sheet because the source is a launch release rather than a live nationwide configurator.
The Taigun suits a buyer who wants a compact five-seat SUV and a transparent starting list of automatic variants. Before signing, check whether the quoted price is current in your city and whether registration and insurance keep the chosen trim inside your actual budget.
Honda Elevate: a petrol-CVT SUV with Delhi reference prices
Honda’s October 6, 2026 release lists these Delhi ex-showroom CVT prices:

The Elevate uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine with either a manual or CVT and is sold with a three-year, unlimited-kilometre standard warranty according to that release. Honda also describes dealer accessories such as a DVR and TPMS-linked items; treat those as optional, model-specific additions and include them in the quote if you need them.
Because the figures are Delhi prices from a dated release, request the current price and on-road calculation in your own city. The Elevate is a sensible candidate for a buyer who wants a five-seat petrol-CVT SUV without moving into a larger three-row vehicle.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: investigate the exact automatic first
Maruti Suzuki’s model finder shows a starting price of ₹10,45,000 and identifies manual and automatic availability. Its automatic-technology information describes AGS, four- and six-speed automatic transmissions and CVT systems across the range, and identifies the Grand Vitara among the automatic models. That information does not by itself tell you which Grand Vitara trim, powertrain or transmission will fit your city’s ₹25 lakh ceiling.

A 2022 Maruti Suzuki release claims up to 27.97 km/l for the strong-hybrid version. This is a dated manufacturer claim, not an independent real-world comparison. Ask for the current variant sheet, hybrid specification, warranty terms and an itemised quote before comparing it with the petrol automatics above.
Kia Seltos and Škoda Kushaq: promising, but verify before ranking
Kia’s official homepage identifies the all-new Seltos with a ₹10,99,900 starting ex-showroom price, but the available official material does not provide a current automatic-variant price table. A starting price therefore cannot prove that a particular automatic Seltos remains below your limit.
Škoda’s March 21, 2026 launch release announces a refreshed Kushaq with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, but the captured release does not show variant-level automatic prices. Confirm the live India configurator or dealer price sheet before putting a Kushaq into a ranked “under ₹25 lakh” list.

IVT and CVT
Hyundai uses the IVT label on some Creta and Verna variants, while Honda labels the Elevate’s unit CVT. These names identify continuously variable systems in the manufacturer material. Compare the exact engine pairing, equipment and test-drive response rather than assuming every CVT-labelled car feels or is equipped the same way.
DCT and DSG
Hyundai lists DCT options on the Creta, Verna and Alcazar. Volkswagen uses DSG on the listed Taigun GT Plus trims. A DCT or DSG is a specific dual-clutch automatic designation; the trim, engine and cooling or traffic suitability still need to be checked for the individual car you are buying.

The refreshed Kushaq release announces an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, while Volkswagen’s Taigun release describes an eight-speed automatic for the 1.0-litre TSI. Maruti Suzuki’s technology page refers to four- and six-speed automatic systems in its range. Read the variant specification carefully: the same model may use more than one automatic technology.

Electric automatic drive
The Creta Electric is listed as automatic because an electric drive system does not require the multi-gear shifting used by the petrol and diesel cars above. Your key checks are battery size, charging access, warranty terms, local incentives and the final registered price.
A practical process for staying under your city’s ₹25 lakh limit
- Choose the budget basis. Write “₹25 lakh ex-showroom” or “₹25 lakh on-road in [your city]” at the top of your comparison sheet.
- Shortlist the body and seating format. Separate five-seat SUVs, the five-seat Verna sedan, the six- or seven-seat Alcazar and the five-seat electric SUV before comparing equipment.
- Pick the powertrain. Decide whether petrol, diesel, strong hybrid or electric suits your fuel access, charging routine, annual distance and driving mix.
- Record the exact gearbox. Note IVT, CVT, DCT, DSG, torque-converter AT or electric drive beside the variant name.
- Use the manufacturer’s current city configurator. Recheck the live price, variant availability, standard equipment and delivery status. Launch-release prices can change.
- Request an itemised quotation. Ask for ex-showroom price, road tax, registration, insurance, fast-tag or statutory charges, accessories, discounts and finance-related fees as separate lines.
- Remove optional items you do not want. Dealer accessories can move an on-road quote over the ceiling even when the vehicle itself fits.
- Test-drive the exact automatic. Drive the same engine and gearbox you intend to buy, in traffic and on an open road if possible. Do not substitute a manual or a different automatic for the evaluation.
- Recheck the final number before booking. Ask the dealer to date the quotation and confirm how long the price and offer remain valid.
What to compare on the final quotation
- Variant identity: model, trim, engine, battery size where applicable and transmission must all match the car you drove.
- Safety equipment: verify airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, TPMS and any other item on the exact trim’s standard-equipment list rather than relying on the model brochure’s top-version illustration.
- Seats and luggage: check whether the six- or seven-seat configuration meets your regular passenger needs and whether luggage space remains usable.
- Warranty: record the duration, kilometre limit, battery coverage where relevant and exclusions in writing. The documented Elevate release specifies three years with unlimited kilometres; do not transfer that term to another brand.
- Service and running costs: ask for the manufacturer’s current maintenance schedule and consumables estimate. The available official material does not provide a common, independent service-cost comparison.
- Resale and efficiency claims: treat manufacturer mileage or buyback statements as conditional claims, not guaranteed outcomes. The Grand Vitara’s 27.97 km/l figure is a 2022 manufacturer claim, and Volkswagen’s release describes an assured-buyback offer only under stated time, distance and terms-and-conditions limits.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: treating the ₹25 lakh ceiling as universal
A Delhi ex-showroom price, a nationwide starting price and an on-road quote are three different numbers. Fix this by using one city and one budget basis for every candidate.
Mistake: assuming every automatic is available with every engine
Hyundai explicitly says gearbox and equipment combinations vary by trim. Volkswagen’s Taigun list separates AT and DSG variants. Fix this by writing the full variant name and transmission in your comparison sheet.
Mistake: choosing from a starting price
A model’s entry price may belong to a manual or lower trim. The Kia Seltos starting figure, for example, does not establish the price of a particular automatic variant. Fix this by obtaining the automatic variant’s current local quote.
Mistake: presenting a manufacturer claim as a test result
Efficiency, buyback and residual-value statements can depend on test conditions, time limits, distance limits and other terms. Attribute the claim and preserve its qualification; do not convert it into a universal real-world promise.
Mistake: spending the entire amount on the car
Insurance, registration, road tax, accessories and financing fees can consume the margin between ex-showroom and on-road totals. Keep a buffer until the itemised quotation is complete.

- Need an electric SUV? Examine the Creta Electric’s battery choice, charging access and on-road eligibility before considering its upper trims.
- Prefer a sedan? Compare the Verna’s IVT and DCT variants with the equipment and driving pattern you actually want.
- Want the widest five-seat SUV choice? Put the Creta, Taigun and Elevate on the same city quotation sheet, keeping their different automatic types separate.
- Want a hybrid or a model outside the confirmed price tables? Investigate the Grand Vitara, Seltos or Kushaq only after the current automatic variant and price are verified.
The defensible answer to “best automatic car under ₹25 lakh” is therefore conditional: choose the exact automatic variant that meets your seating and powertrain needs, then confirm that its current on-road quote in your city stays below the limit. Official prices and availability change, so recheck the manufacturer configurator and dealer quotation immediately before booking.
