The strongest full-size family alternatives to the Toyota Sequoia and Chevrolet Tahoe are the Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and GMC Yukon. The Chevrolet Suburban is worth adding if your priority is carrying passengers and luggage together. If you do not need full-size towing or dimensions, the Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and Toyota Grand Highlander are sensible midsize cross-shops—but they are not direct substitutes for full-size utility.

Ford Expedition
Consider the Expedition as a broad full-size alternative rather than a single-purpose towing pick. In MotorTrend’s July 17, 2026 comparison, a Ford Expedition Platinum 4×4 had a reported maximum tow rating of 9,200 pounds and 18 mpg combined. Those are comparison-specific figures; MotorTrend said it did not test towing, and neither figure should be applied to every Expedition configuration. The article listed that test vehicle at $77,045 base and $84,495 as tested after a package, not as a current quote. MotorTrend’s comparison details the vehicles and qualifications.

Nissan Armada
The Armada has the lowest starting price among the five full-size alternatives in Car and Driver’s listed figures, though trim, drivetrain, and local transaction price can change the value comparison. In MotorTrend’s specific comparison, its tested Armada was listed at 8,500 pounds maximum towing and 16 mpg combined; the outlet did not tow with it. Use the exact vehicle’s manufacturer specifications and your loaded trailer requirements to determine whether it fits.

The Grand Wagoneer is a full-size option for shoppers also considering luxury SUVs. Car and Driver’s guide says the 2026 line expands downward to cover the role of the departed standard Wagoneer; because lineup naming can change, check the current model and trim structure when shopping. MotorTrend’s comparison vehicle, a Grand Wagoneer Limited Reserve 4×4, was listed at $82,755 base and $84,750 as tested after a tow package. Its article-reported figures were 10,000 pounds maximum towing and 19 mpg combined, but towing was not tested and the results are specific to the comparison configuration.

GMC Yukon
The Yukon is a strong alternative if you want a full-size vehicle for people, equipment, and trailer duty. MotorTrend tested a Yukon Denali 4WD, reporting an 8,000-pound maximum tow rating and 16 mpg combined for that comparison vehicle; it did not test towing. The Denali’s comparison price was $86,195 base and $99,115 as tested with a package. These figures are not representative of every Yukon trim. The Yukon’s listed starting price is $72,395 in Car and Driver’s ranking, which is a different figure and basis from the tested Denali price.
Chevrolet Suburban
The Suburban is the long-body GM option to consider when your family regularly fills the seats and still needs luggage room. Car and Driver identifies it as suited to towing while carrying up to nine occupants and cargo, and lists a 2026 starting price of $66,495 with 16–17 mpg combined. Its assessment is editorial guidance, not a guarantee that every seating configuration leaves the same cargo space.

How to compare space for a real family trip
Do not compare maximum cargo figures without checking how many seats remain usable. A number measured with rear seats folded does not describe luggage capacity with the third row occupied. Chevrolet’s manufacturer comparison reports 25.5 cubic feet behind the Tahoe’s third row; Toyota’s full-size SUV page lists up to 86.9 cubic feet with rear seats folded. - Try the household’s own child seats in the exact vehicle and seating positions. Row count and published passenger dimensions do not establish car-seat fit or access.
- Check whether a second-row seat can move or fold with the child seats installed, and whether passengers can reach the third row comfortably.
- Test the vehicle’s length and visibility on your routine: parking garages, school pickup, and the family driveway may matter as much as maximum capacity.
Car and Driver describes the Sequoia as offering good space in the first two rows but not matching the utility of some other full-size SUVs. Toyota’s specifications are for mainland U.S. vehicles and may change; confirm current details for the trim you are evaluating. When a midsize three-row SUV is the better fit

- Check cargo space with the seats your family will actually use in place; bring your usual luggage and child seats to the dealership.
