For the best odds of very high mileage, the Toyota Sequoia has the stronger evidence. iSeeCars’ 2026 analysis estimates a 42.3% chance that a Sequoia will reach 250,000 miles, versus 7.1% for a Chevrolet Tahoe. Those are model-level projections, not guarantees for an individual SUV. J.D. Power’s separate 2026 three-year dependability study named the Tahoe an award recipient, but it measures a different ownership period and outcome.
Which SUV is more likely to last to high mileage?

On that measure, the Sequoia is the clear statistical favorite. The figures describe estimated odds across a model, however—not a prediction that a particular Sequoia will reach 250,000 miles or that a particular Tahoe will fail before then.
What do lifespan estimates and other reliability studies say?
iSeeCars’ model-page estimates
iSeeCars’ individual model pages report an estimated average lifespan of 234,456 miles, or 15.6 years, for the Sequoia, compared with 164,978 miles, or 10.3 years, for the Tahoe. The pages estimate a 65.6% chance for the Sequoia and a 27.5% chance for the Tahoe to reach 200,000 miles. Do not combine these model-page figures with the separate iSeeCars direct comparison: that page gives different 200,000-mile estimates—62.6% for the Sequoia and 29.1% for the Tahoe. J.D. Power’s shorter-term dependability measure
J.D. Power named the Tahoe among model-level award recipients in its 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. The study surveyed 33,268 original owners of 2023 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. This result does not contradict the high-mileage comparison: J.D. Power measures owner-reported problems after three years, while iSeeCars estimates the likelihood of vehicles reaching much higher mileage. A favorable shorter-term dependability result does not establish that a Tahoe is more likely to reach 250,000 miles.
Why model year and generation matter
A nameplate-wide average can hide differences among generations and powertrains. iSeeCars lists a 9.7 score for Sequoias from 2008–2022, but says there is insufficient data for 2001–2007. For the Tahoe, it lists 8.6 for 2015–2020 and insufficient data for other displayed generations. These limited generation-level results are not a complete year-by-year reliability ranking. The available figures do not establish a model-year-by-model-year repair-cost winner or show that every powertrain within either model performs alike. If you are comparing used examples, focus on the exact year and powertrain rather than assuming the model-wide result applies equally to each one.

Use the Sequoia’s stronger high-mileage projection as a starting point, then judge the actual vehicles in front of you. A well-documented, well-maintained Tahoe may be a better purchase than a neglected Sequoia; the broad estimates cannot settle an individual vehicle’s condition or likely repair costs.

- Identify the exact vehicle. Confirm its model year, generation, engine and other powertrain details. Do not treat different years or configurations as interchangeable.
- Review service and ownership records. Look for a consistent maintenance history and investigate gaps, repeated repairs or unexplained changes in ownership.
- Check accident history and condition. Evaluate the vehicle’s documented history and have its present condition assessed independently.
- Get an independent inspection. Ask a qualified mechanic to inspect the specific SUV and identify current issues or deferred maintenance before purchase.
- Compare repair costs for the examples you are considering. The cited studies do not establish an overall repair-cost winner, so use vehicle-specific inspection findings and local estimates rather than inferring cost from the lifespan figures.
- Check recalls by VIN. Use an official recall lookup for each vehicle; a model-level result or old snippet cannot confirm whether a specific SUV has an open recall.
