The Metropolitan has detailed published specifications and pricing; KYMCO’s Agility 50 offers practical equipment, but important purchase details such as price and weight are not stated on its spec sheet. Neither manufacturer’s materials establish a best overall scooter or prove which model is more reliable. Treat “50cc” as the shopping category: Honda lists the Metropolitan at 49cc.
2026 U.S. 50cc scooter comparison
Manufacturer specifications are useful for comparing equipment, but they are not independent road tests. The figures below describe what Honda and KYMCO publish; they do not establish real-world speed, acceleration, hill performance, stopping superiority, durability, or reliability.
| Model | Engine and fuel system | Brakes and tires | Weight and seat height | Storage and utility | Price and warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 Honda Metropolitan | 49cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke; PGM-FI fuel injection; automatic V-Matic belt drive | Front 95mm drum and rear 110mm drum with combined braking; 80/100-10 front and rear tires | 179 lb curb weight with fluids and full tank; 28.3-inch seat height | Weather-resistant, lockable 22-liter underseat storage | $2,649 base MSRP plus $300 destination charge ($2,949 before tax, license, registration, and dealer-installed options); one year of transferable, unlimited-mileage limited warranty included |
| 2026 KYMCO Agility 50 | 50cc, carbureted; the surfaced spec sheet does not state stroke or cooling type | Dual-piston front disc brake; tire sizes not stated on the surfaced spec sheet | Not stated on the surfaced spec sheet | Lockable underseat storage, helmet-locking posts, luggage carrier, baggage hook, and flip-up backrest that doubles as a passenger seat | Price, destination charge, and warranty not stated on the surfaced spec sheet; KYMCO claims 102.1 MPG but gives no test method there |
Specifications and pricing are from the manufacturers’ 2026 U.S. materials: Honda Metropolitan and KYMCO Agility 50. Confirm current terms with a local dealer.
Which scooter fits your needs?
Choose the Honda Metropolitan if documented specifications matter most
Honda publishes the Metropolitan’s price, weight, seat height, storage volume, engine details, and included warranty. That makes it easier to compare ownership basics before visiting a dealer. Its automatic V-Matic belt drive is designed for twist-and-go operation. Honda says its combined braking system adds front-brake assistance when the rear brake is activated; this description does not by itself demonstrate shorter stopping distances than another model.

Consider the KYMCO Agility 50 for its listed utility features
KYMCO’s sheet highlights a luggage carrier, baggage hook, helmet-locking posts, lockable storage, and a flip-up backrest that also serves as a passenger seat. The published 102.1 MPG figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result; the surfaced sheet does not explain how it was measured. Ask a dealer for the price, weight, seat height, warranty terms, and local parts and service availability before comparing its total value with the Honda.
Other candidates require more verification
The U.S.-labeled Vespa Primavera 50 page describes a 50cc, three-valve engine with electronic fuel injection and gives a recommended retail price of $4,449. The page’s price wording says “excluding VAT,” so confirm U.S. availability, applicable taxes, destination fees, and dealer pricing before treating that figure as a U.S. transaction price.

Honda also lists the 49cc Ruckus at $2,899 base MSRP plus $300 destination and a 28.8-inch seat height. The available details here do not cover its full specifications, so use Honda’s scooter model information and ask a dealer for a complete, current comparison. Riders may also encounter recommendations for Yamaha Zuma 50FX, Genuine Buddy 50, or Genuine Roughhouse 50 in online discussions; those mentions are anecdotal, not a reliability ranking or confirmation of 2026 U.S. availability.
How to compare real purchase costs and fit
Do not compare a base MSRP with another scooter’s out-the-door quote as though they were the same figure. Honda’s $2,949 total combines its listed base MSRP and destination charge; it excludes tax, license, registration, and dealer-installed options. For every candidate, request an itemized quote that separates those charges and any dealer fees.

- The included rear trunk is handy for those quick trips to the grocery store. Simple, convenient dash mounted controls like electric start, speedometer and light and turn signal switches and twist throttle, make riding fun and easy.
- Confirm the full specification: actual displacement, engine cycle, cooling, fuel system, brake types, tire sizes, weight, and seat height. Do not infer performance from engine size alone.
- Check physical fit: sit on the scooter, reach the controls, and see whether the seat height and weight feel manageable. Published dimensions do not replace an in-person fit check.
- Test the practical layout: check whether storage fits what you carry and whether hooks, racks, passenger equipment, and helmet locks meet your needs. Verify which features are standard on the exact model being sold.
- Ask about ownership support: confirm warranty coverage, routine service access, parts availability, and local inventory with the seller. Honda provides dealer lookup, inventory, and quote tools on its model page; those tools do not guarantee local stock.
- Evaluate your route: consider traffic speeds, hills, trip length, passenger or cargo needs, and the roads you are legally permitted to use. A small scooter may be a poor fit for routes that require sustained high-speed travel; this is a route-planning consideration, not a claim about either model’s tested top speed.
Check licensing and road-use rules where you live
“50cc” does not automatically mean a scooter is exempt from motorcycle licensing, registration, insurance, or other requirements. States and local jurisdictions define mopeds and scooters differently, and rules can depend on factors beyond displacement. KYMCO’s phrase “Moped legal in many states” does not name those states, so it is not a determination of legality for your location.
Before paying a deposit, check your state motor vehicle agency’s current rules for the specific model and intended use, including license or endorsement, registration, insurance, helmet, and road restrictions. NHTSA also notes that motorcycle licensing regulations vary. See its motorcycle safety guidance.

Budget for protective gear and basic checks
NHTSA advises riders to wear a helmet that meets U.S. DOT FMVSS 218 and to look for the DOT symbol on the back. It also recommends covering arms and legs, wearing gloves, using shoes or boots that cover the ankles, and choosing bright or reflective clothing. These recommendations apply to motorcycle riding generally, including scooter safety planning.
Before each ride, NHTSA advises checking tire pressure and tread, brakes, headlights and signals, fluid levels, and looking for oil or fuel leaks. NHTSA’s broader risk figures are not specific to 50cc scooters: the agency reports that 6,228 motorcyclists died in 2024, or 16% of all traffic fatalities, and that per vehicle miles traveled motorcyclists were almost 27 times more likely than passenger-car occupants to die in a motor-vehicle crash. These figures describe motorcyclists generally, not a model-level or 50cc-scooter risk estimate.
