The first hardtop Trans Am Worldwide 70/SS was unveiled at the 2024 SEMA Show—not as a factory 2025 Chevrolet Chevelle, but as a modern custom tribute to the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport. The reported car paired a removable hardtop with a concealed soft top, bringing a new roof configuration to the builder’s contemporary performance car.
What the 70/SS is—and what it is not
Trans Am Worldwide describes the 70/SS as a modern-platform vehicle that pays tribute to the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport. It is a custom build from the company, not a new Chevrolet production model or a documented original Chevelle. The distinction matters: its styling references a historic GM car, but that does not make its construction or identity equivalent to one.
General Motors’ 1970 Chevelle information kit lists the SS 396, an SS 396 sport coupe, and 396, 400, and 454 engines among the model-year offerings. That provides context for the car being honored; it does not establish factory lineage for the modern 70/SS. For the builder’s current description and package details, see Trans Am Worldwide’s 70/SS page.
What made the first hardtop reveal different
Motorious reported that Trans Am Worldwide introduced the first hardtop 70/SS at the 2024 SEMA Show, unveiling the car to its owner. The reported configuration put a removable hardtop over a concealed soft top. The hardtop could be removed manually, while the soft top operated at the push of a button. Those details describe the featured car; they should not be assumed to be standard across every 70/SS.

The featured example wore Fathom Blue Metallic paint with Pearl White rally stripes. The combination connected the modern custom’s appearance to classic muscle-car cues, while the concealed soft top offered an open-air option without making the soft top the car’s visible roof when the hardtop was fitted.
Hardtop storage was still a separate question
Motorious reported that a custom garage lift to store the removable roof was planned, but was not yet available for purchase when its article was published. That is a time-specific report, not confirmation of present availability. Anyone considering a similar configuration should ask the builder how the roof is removed, where it can be stored, and what storage equipment—if any—is currently offered.

70/SS power figures depend on the package
Trans Am Worldwide lists three powertrain levels on its 70/SS page. These are the builder’s advertised specifications, not independently verified test results:
| Builder-listed configuration | Advertised output or limit |
|---|---|
| Starting LT1 | 450 hp |
| 396-cubic-inch engine upgrade | 900 rear-wheel horsepower |
| LS6/X twin-turbo 454 | 1,500 streetable rear-wheel horsepower; the builder states this model is limited to 25 units |
A separate customer-build feature from Chevy Hardcore describes a 70/SS with a supercharged package rated at 800 hp, including a Magnuson 2650 supercharger and a 396 cam. That figure belongs to that particular build and its feature coverage; it is not interchangeable with the builder’s package figures above.

The output numbers use different descriptions—some are given as horsepower and others as rear-wheel horsepower—and come from the builder or coverage of an individual build. They should not be read as comparable independent measurements. The cited material does not report a controlled performance test.
Customization and buying details
The builder lists heritage and modern paint choices, custom colors, a removable hardtop, brake and wheel options, painted graphics, and exposed carbon fiber. Because the 70/SS is offered as a customized build, equipment and appearance can vary by selection.

“2025 Chevelle” can suggest a new Chevrolet model-year car, but the reported hardtop debut took place in 2024 and involved Trans Am Worldwide’s custom 70/SS. The year in the original headline does not identify a Chevrolet factory model or change the car’s status as a modern tribute. A reader searching for an original 1970 Chevelle should treat that as a different vehicle category from the 70/SS.
