1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDecember 2024’s advertised EV lease deals included payments as low as $129 a month for a Nissan LEAF and $149 a month for a Kia Niro EV. But upfront cash changed the comparison: Electrek’s reported effective monthly costs for those offers were $199 and $315, respectively. These were historical, location-dependent promotions—not offers available today.
The figures below are Electrek’s December 24, 2024 snapshot, not guaranteed nationwide quotes. Its roundup lists advertised payment, lease term, due at signing and an effective monthly rate that includes upfront costs. Check the original offer or a dealer quote for mileage limits, taxes, fees and eligibility details not established in the roundup.
How to read the December 2024 lease figures
The advertised monthly payment is only one part of a lease’s cost. Electrek’s effective monthly figure spreads the reported amount due at signing across the listed term and adds it to the advertised payment. It helps compare the offers on a more consistent basis, but it is not a complete cost calculation: the roundup does not establish all taxes, fees, mileage allowances or eligibility conditions.
The table preserves Electrek’s reported figures. Several advertised payments were under $300, while their reported effective monthly costs were above $300. Amounts and terms reflect the publication’s snapshot, not independently verified manufacturer disclosures or current offers.

Which deals had the lowest reported effective costs?
Nissan LEAF
The 2025 LEAF had the lowest advertised payment in the table: $129 a month for 36 months, with $2,529 due at signing. Electrek reported an effective rate of $199 a month after accounting for that upfront amount.
Fiat 500e
The 2024 Fiat 500e was listed at $179 a month for 42 months, with $2,979 due at signing and a reported effective rate of $250 a month. Electrek’s narrative identifies the trim as the 500e INSPI(RED). It also mentioned a Colorado dealer offer of $0 per month for 27 months with $0 down; that was a specific local offer, not evidence of a universally available or cost-free lease. Taxes, fees and eligibility still matter.

Honda Prologue
The table’s 2024 Prologue offer was $229 a month for 36 months, with $1,299 due at signing and a reported effective rate of $265 a month. Electrek separately described a $259-a-month offer with $2,999 upfront and a $342 effective rate. Those are distinct reported offers and should not be combined.
Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra
The 2024 Toyota bZ4X was listed at $219 a month for 39 months, with $2,999 due and a reported effective rate of $296. The 2024 Subaru Solterra was listed at $279 a month for 36 months, with $279 due and a reported effective rate of $287.
Where the headline payment could be misleading
Kia Niro EV: two different offers
The table lists a 2025 Niro EV at $149 a month for 24 months, with $3,999 due and a $315 reported effective rate. In its narrative, Electrek also mentions a separate $199-a-month, 36-month offer with the same amount due and a reported effective rate of $310. The offers have different advertised payments and terms; do not treat them as one deal.

Nissan Ariya: location changed the price
Electrek reported a $99-a-month Ariya offer available only in Colorado. Its New York example was $169 a month for 24 months, with $6,219 upfront and a reported effective rate of $428. This difference illustrates why a quoted payment needs a location and due-at-signing figure to be useful.
Hyundai IONIQ 5: inconsistent term reporting
The table lists the 2024 IONIQ 5 at $159 a month, 24 months, $3,999 due and a $326 effective rate. The narrative describes the offer as 36 months through Hyundai’s “Getaway Sales Event.” Electrek does not reconcile that discrepancy, so the term should be confirmed against an archived offer or dealer quote rather than inferred.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before comparing a lease quote
Historical advertised deals are most useful as a comparison starting point. Before treating any monthly payment as affordable or comparable, obtain the full written offer and check:
- Term and due at signing: Confirm the lease length and itemize the cash due at signing; a low monthly payment can require substantial upfront money.
- Total cost and fees: Ask which taxes, acquisition charges, registration costs and other fees are included or excluded. The roundup does not provide complete fee disclosures.
- Mileage allowance: Confirm the annual mileage limit and charges for exceeding it; the reviewed offers do not establish those terms.
- Location and eligibility: Verify the ZIP code, participating dealer, customer qualifications and offer expiration. The Ariya example shows that geography could materially change the advertised payment.
- Exact vehicle and offer: Confirm model year, trim, term and any required down payment or incentives, particularly where the source gives conflicting terms or describes more than one offer.
Context: why leasing featured in EV shopping
Electrek’s December 2024 article placed the promotions in a market where leasing was a prominent route into a new EV. It reported that nearly 9% of U.S. vehicle sales were electric in Q3 2024, attributing the figure to Cox Automotive, and that leasing accounted for 45% of new EV transactions in Q3 2024, compared with 25% in Q3 2023 and 9.5% in Q3 2022, attributing those figures to Experian. These are figures as reported by Electrek, not independently verified here.

Cox Automotive’s director of Industry Insights, Stephanie Valdez Streaty, was quoted as saying, “The growth is being fueled in part by incentives and discounts,”
These were year-end 2024 promotions, not current deals
The offers in this roundup belong to December 2024. Electrek reported that Tesla’s year-end deals included three free months of Supercharging and Full Self-Driving, with delivery required by December 31, 2024. The same article described Ford’s “Power Promise” as including a free Level 2 home charger and standard installation for EV buyers; it does not establish that this purchase promotion applied to leases.
Electrek’s page was updated January 6, 2025 and points readers to a later roundup. For a shopper today, the December figures are historical reference points only; current availability and terms must be established by a live manufacturer offer or dealer quote.
