Short answer: the SPORTEQ Three+ 70 kWh is the value choice, while the SPORTEQ Launch Edition 79 kWh is the higher-spec special edition. Mahindra’s announced ex-showroom prices differ by ₹3 lakh: ₹23.95 lakh for the Three+ 70 kWh and ₹26.95 lakh for the Launch Edition. For that premium, the Launch Edition adds a larger battery, higher listed power and its exclusive exterior and interior treatment. The published range figures and charging times are not independent road-test results, so they should not be treated as guaranteed real-world outcomes.
This comparison is specifically between the 70 kWh Three+ and the 79 kWh Launch Edition. Mahindra also announced a ₹24.95 lakh Three+ with a 79 kWh battery; that is a different configuration and should not be confused with the lower-priced 70 kWh car.

The battery, power, range and charging entries are the values published for the variants, not a promise that every journey will reproduce them. Temperature, speed, traffic, payload, tyre pressure, terrain, battery state of charge and charging-site performance all affect actual results.

Price: what the ₹3 lakh premium does and does not include
Mahindra’s 15 August 2026 announcement places the Three+ 70 kWh at ₹23.95 lakh ex-showroom and the Launch Edition 79 kWh at ₹26.95 lakh ex-showroom. The arithmetic difference is ₹3 lakh before registration, road tax, insurance, financing, accessories, charger equipment and installation.
Neither number is an on-road quote. Mahindra states that the wall charger and its installation are excluded from the announced vehicle prices. A dealer’s final invoice can therefore be materially higher, and the amount will vary by state, city, insurance selection, finance terms and the electrical work required at your parking location.
Do not mix up the other Three+ battery option
The same announcement lists a Three+ with a 79 kWh battery at ₹24.95 lakh. That is ₹1 lakh above the 70 kWh Three+ and ₹2 lakh below the Launch Edition on the announced ex-showroom figures, but it is not the 70 kWh Three+ used in this title. Ask the salesperson to write both the battery capacity and variant name on the quotation; a price comparison is meaningless if the configurations are mixed.

Ask for a dated, itemized quotation that separates the vehicle, registration and road-tax items, insurance, accessories, wall charger, installation and any finance-related fees. Confirm whether the quoted car is the 70 kWh Three+, the 79 kWh Three+ or the 79 kWh Launch Edition. Also ask whether a listed promotion is a manufacturer offer, a dealer discount or a finance-linked benefit, because those have different conditions and expiry dates.
Battery capacity and range: the practical difference
What the extra 9 kWh means
The Launch Edition’s battery is 9 kWh larger than the battery in the compared Three+. That is useful reserve for drivers who cover long distances between charging opportunities or who want a larger buffer before arriving at a fast charger. It does not, by itself, prove that the car will travel 9 kWh’s worth of additional distance in every situation: usable energy, software limits and consumption determine the distance achieved on the road.
The larger pack also adds energy that must be replenished when charging from empty. The listed AC times are correspondingly longer for the Launch Edition, although both variants have the same published 20–80% DC time under their respective stated input ratings.

Claimed range is not a real-world guarantee
Autocar India lists a claimed 651 km for the Three+ 70 kWh and 683 km for the Launch Edition 79 kWh. The reviewed evidence does not establish an independent real-world range test for either exact configuration, nor does it specify a common route, speed, weather, payload or test protocol that would let a buyer reproduce those numbers.
Use the figures as a certified or listed reference for comparing the variants, then plan a personal buffer. A highway trip at sustained high speed, winter or extreme summer temperatures, heavy luggage, steep terrain and repeated rapid acceleration can reduce range. Urban traffic can either lower consumption through regenerative braking or raise it through air-conditioning and stop-start loads. Your own daily route and the availability of dependable charging matter more than the headline number.
How to decide whether the larger pack matters to you
- Choose the smaller battery if home charging is available, most driving is local and your daily distance leaves a comfortable reserve.
- Give the larger battery more weight if your regular route is long, charging access is uncertain or you frequently drive between cities.
- Before paying the premium, map the longest routine trip, identify reliable charging points at both ends and calculate a conservative arrival state of charge rather than planning to use the full claimed range.
Power, torque and what the figures tell you
The Launch Edition is listed at 285 hp, compared with 245 hp for the Three+. That is a 40 hp difference in the published maximum output. Both are listed with 380 Nm of maximum torque and rear-wheel drive.
Higher listed power can provide more headroom for acceleration, overtaking or carrying passengers, but the figures do not establish a particular 0–100 km/h time, passing time or driving feel. Those outcomes depend on traction, software calibration, tyres, battery state of charge and test conditions. The identical listed torque means the table alone cannot quantify how much stronger the Launch Edition will feel at every speed.
Do not infer that the Launch Edition is a different drive layout or a fundamentally different chassis from these specifications. The published comparison identifies rear-wheel drive for both variants. If ride, handling or braking differences are important to you, inspect the final equipment list and arrange a back-to-back drive; the supplied figures do not settle those questions.

Interpreting the AC numbers
The quoted AC times are full 0–100% figures under the stated input conditions. In normal use, many owners charge only to the level needed for the next day, so the plugged-in time can be shorter. Actual time can vary near the top of the battery’s state-of-charge window and may be limited by the home circuit, charger output, temperature or the vehicle’s charge-management software.

A 7.2 kW installation takes longer than an 11.2 kW installation. The Launch Edition’s larger battery adds roughly an hour at the higher listed input and 1.5 hours at the lower input in the published table. That difference is unlikely to matter if the car is plugged in overnight, but it can matter to drivers who need a full recharge between shifts or trips.
Interpreting the DC numbers
Both variants are listed at 20 minutes for a 20–80% DC session, but the associated input ratings differ. The time is not a full 0–100% recharge and should not be used to estimate the duration of a complete road-trip stop. Charging stations may deliver less than their advertised maximum because of site sharing, connector limits, grid conditions, battery temperature or a vehicle’s charge curve.
Home charger and electrical checks
Because charger hardware and installation are excluded from the announced prices, treat home charging as a separate project. Before signing, verify:

- Your sanctioned electrical load, meter arrangement, cable route, earthing and protection devices.
- Whether the parking space is private, weather-exposed, shared or subject to apartment-management approval.
- The installer’s warranty, commissioning test and support process.
- Any local electrical rules, permissions and safety requirements.
Do not assume that a charger advertised for another EV is suitable merely because its power rating appears similar. Confirm compatibility in writing for the selected BE 6 variant.
Styling and trim: the Launch Edition’s non-mechanical appeal
Mahindra identifies the Launch Edition with a Graphite Storm exterior and Racing Tan leatherette interior. Those details make the special edition visually distinct. The available evidence does not establish a monetary value for the colour or upholstery, so paying for them is a personal preference rather than a quantified performance benefit.
If you are comparing showroom cars, inspect the material, colour, seat comfort, glare and ease of cleaning in person. Also request the current variant equipment sheet: a launch description may not enumerate every feature, standard accessory or regional exception. Do not assume that an item shown in a display vehicle is included unless it appears on the written quotation or official brochure for your market.

Which one should you buy?
Choose the Three+ 70 kWh when price and adequate range come first
The Three+ is the logical choice for a buyer who wants the lower entry price and can meet daily driving needs without the Launch Edition’s extra battery and power. It retains the same rear-wheel-drive layout and listed maximum torque, while reducing the initial ex-showroom outlay by ₹3 lakh compared with the Launch Edition.
This choice is strongest when you can charge at home, your regular distances are predictable and you are comfortable treating the listed range as a reference rather than a promise. The money saved can instead cover registration, insurance, charger installation or a larger emergency budget, depending on your priorities.
Choose the Launch Edition when the larger battery and output have a clear use
The Launch Edition makes more sense when additional energy reserve, higher listed power or its special-edition treatment directly addresses your needs. Frequent inter-city driving, limited charging access and a preference for stronger headline output are reasonable reasons to consider it.
Buy it because those attributes matter to your driving pattern, not because the claimed 683 km figure guarantees that distance in real traffic. If you rarely use the extra reserve and do not value the styling, the premium may be difficult to justify on the published specifications alone.
Consider the 79 kWh Three+ separately
If your main reason for considering the Launch Edition is the 79 kWh battery rather than the styling or higher power, ask the dealer to price the 79 kWh Three+ as a third option. Mahindra’s announcement lists that configuration at ₹24.95 lakh ex-showroom. Compare its final equipment, charging hardware and availability line by line instead of assuming the Launch Edition is the only route to the larger pack.

Ownership cost: why an on-road comparison is essential
The ex-showroom gap is only the first cost difference. A buyer-specific ownership calculation also needs the state and city, registration method, insurance cover, annual distance, electricity tariff, financing rate, charger and installation quote, maintenance terms and any battery-subscription arrangement. Without those inputs, a precise five-year cost comparison would be invented.

Use a simple worksheet with separate rows for the on-road purchase, finance interest, home electrical work, public charging, electricity, insurance, scheduled maintenance, tyres and resale assumptions. Record whether each figure is a one-time cost, a recurring cost or a dealer estimate. This prevents a low showroom price from being mistaken for a lower total cost of ownership.
Battery-as-a-Service caution
Mahindra’s announcement describes a Battery-as-a-Service option and gives a ₹3.75-per-kilometre battery charge in an example that assumes 60 km per day. The announcement’s price table associates that example with the 59 kWh ONE and TWO variants; it does not quote a BaaS price for either the Three+ configuration or the Launch Edition.
Do not apply ₹3.75 per kilometre to this comparison without written confirmation. Ask whether a BaaS contract is available for the exact variant, how kilometres are measured, whether there is a minimum or maximum usage rule, what happens on resale and which battery-related services are included. Compare the resulting recurring payment with the purchase price only after receiving the current terms.
Availability and delivery timing
Mahindra announced that deliveries would commence on 26 August 2026. That is a launch-announcement milestone, not a guarantee of current stock or a delivery date in your city. On 18 October 2026, availability can still vary by dealer, colour, battery configuration and allocation.
Ask the dealer to state the expected delivery window, booking and cancellation terms, manufacturing month, warranty start date and whether the quoted car is physically allocated. Get the answer dated and written. If a salesperson offers an immediate car, verify its exact variant and equipment before making a payment.
Questions to verify during a test drive and quotation
- Confirm the VIN-linked variant name and battery capacity on the pro-forma invoice.
- Ask for the latest official feature and safety-equipment list for your market.
- Check the actual charger model, rated AC input, cable length and installation scope.
- Request a demonstration of the vehicle’s charge settings, state-of-charge display and route-planning functions.
- Drive both versions if possible, concentrating on seating, visibility, ride comfort, regeneration settings, steering and braking rather than relying on the power figures.
- Ask how software updates, roadside assistance and battery warranty claims are handled.
- Obtain an itemized on-road quote and compare insurance, accessories and finance charges on identical terms.
- Have the dealer document delivery timing, colour, charger inclusion and every discount or condition.
Common mistakes in this comparison
- Comparing ex-showroom with on-road: the announced prices exclude registration, insurance and charger installation.
- Confusing Three+ batteries: the 70 kWh and 79 kWh Three+ are separate configurations.
- Treating claimed range as tested range: no independent test for these exact variants is established here.
- Assuming equal DC hardware: both list a 20-minute 20–80% time, but their stated input ratings differ.
- Applying the BaaS example blindly: the ₹3.75-per-kilometre example is not quoted for either compared trim.
- Valuing styling as performance: Graphite Storm and Racing Tan identify the Launch Edition but do not quantify a driving advantage.
- Relying on an undated promise: stock, discounts and delivery estimates must be confirmed on a current written quote.
Bottom line for the two variants
For a buyer focused on value, the SPORTEQ Three+ 70 kWh is the safer default: it costs ₹3 lakh less ex-showroom and retains rear-wheel drive and the same listed maximum torque. The Launch Edition earns consideration when its 9 kWh larger battery, 40 hp higher listed output or exclusive trim solves a real requirement. Make the final decision from a dated, variant-specific on-road quotation and your own charging and trip pattern, not from the claimed range number alone.
