There is no universal winner between the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. The Apache has a small manufacturer-quoted peak-output advantage in Sport mode and offers three riding modes. The NS160’s published specification includes dual-channel ABS, a 37 mm USD fork and a 300 mm front disc as standard on the listed model. On the Apache, USD suspension and dual-channel ABS with rear-wheel lift-off protection depend on the variant. Compare equivalent trims, obtain written prices for your city, and test ride both before deciding.
The figures below are manufacturer specifications and dated price displays, not results from a same-day road test. This comparison is for the Indian market and reflects information checked through October 2026.

At a glance: the important differences
Both motorcycles use oil-cooled, four-valve, fuel-injected engines in the same 160cc class. Their headline specifications are close, but equipment is not distributed in the same way across the ranges. The most useful first step is to separate the engine comparison from the trim comparison.

Engine performance: a narrow paper advantage for the Apache
What Bajaj lists for the NS160
Bajaj lists a 160.3cc oil-cooled, twin-spark, four-valve fuel-injected engine producing 17 PS at 9,000 rpm and 14.6 Nm at 7,250 rpm. Those are the manufacturer’s stated peak figures for the current NS160 specification, not independently measured dyno results.
What TVS lists for the Apache
TVS lists a 159.7cc oil-cooled, SOHC, four-valve fuel-injected engine. In Sport mode it quotes 17.55 PS at 9,250 rpm and 14.73 Nm at 7,500 rpm. That is a 0.55 PS and 0.13 Nm paper advantage over the NS160, with both peaks arriving at slightly higher engine speeds. TVS also lists 15.64 PS and 14.14 Nm for Urban and Rain modes. The selected mode therefore changes the quoted output; do not use the Sport number as though it applies in every mode.
The output gap is small enough that it cannot, by itself, establish which motorcycle accelerates faster in normal traffic. Gear ratios, throttle calibration, rider weight, road gradient, tyre condition and launch technique all affect an actual run. No controlled comparison of those factors is established here.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow to interpret the numbers when buying
- Choose the Apache if selectable Sport, Urban and Rain calibrations are a priority and you value its slightly higher quoted peak output in Sport mode.
- Choose the NS160 if you prefer a simpler specification in which the listed model already includes the major braking and suspension hardware you want.
- Do not reject either bike solely because its displacement is a fraction larger or smaller. The engines are in the same practical category, and displacement alone does not predict comfort, refinement or real-world economy.
Suspension and braking: compare the exact trim, not the badge
NS160 hardware
The NS160 specification lists a 37 mm upside-down front fork, dual-channel ABS, a 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc. Because these items are presented in the model’s published specification, they form the baseline you should verify on the dealer’s invoice and displayed motorcycle.

Apache hardware by variant
The Apache range has a wider equipment spread. TVS specifies a telescopic front fork for the single-channel ABS version. Its higher specified variants pair a 37 mm USD fork with dual-channel ABS and rear-wheel lift-off protection (RLP). A motorcycle carrying the Apache name can therefore have materially different front suspension and braking equipment depending on the chosen trim.
When requesting a quote, write the complete variant description on the same line as the price. Ask the dealer to identify the ABS channel count, fork type and whether RLP is included. A comparison that lists “Apache RTR 160 4V” without a trim can conceal the very hardware difference that matters most to a safety-conscious buyer.
Weight, tank capacity and everyday implications
Bajaj lists the NS160 at 152 kg kerb weight. TVS lists 143 kg for the single-channel ABS Apache and 146 kg for the specified dual-channel/USD/TFT variants. Depending on the Apache configuration, the listed difference is therefore 6 to 9 kg in the Apache’s favour.

That number is a specification, not a promise that one bike will feel easier in every situation. Weight distribution, seat shape, handlebar position, steering geometry and where the mass sits influence slow-speed balance as much as the total figure. During a test ride, perform a U-turn, reverse the motorcycle into a parking space and hold it upright with one foot down. Those actions reveal whether the actual trim suits your strength and inseam better than a brochure number can.

Both manufacturers list a 12-litre fuel tank. Capacity is equal on paper; the source set does not establish a controlled fuel-range comparison.
Apache riding modes and connected equipment
TVS lists three riding modes: Sport, Urban and Rain. Sport carries the highest quoted output. Urban and Rain use the lower figures listed above. The modes can matter if you regularly switch between open roads and wet or congested streets, but the usefulness depends on how naturally you can change modes and whether the calibration feels appropriate on your route. Confirm the switchgear and mode-display behavior on the exact motorcycle before paying for a feature you may rarely use.
TVS also lists TFT and navigation-related features on top Apache variants. These are not universal across the range. A base or mid-level motorcycle should not be priced as though it has the top-trim display and connectivity package. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the instrument cluster, phone-pairing process and navigation functions on the VIN-matched variant you are being quoted.

This update changes the equipment conversation, not the basic engine-output comparison. Confirm that the motorcycle in the showroom is the 2026 range and that the invoice names the equipment included on your selected trim. The NS160 information reviewed here does not establish a corresponding 2026 equipment change.
Current price context: why online figures do not line up
Prices shown online come from different dates, cities, variants and pricing bases. They should be used to establish a range, not as a promise of what you will pay on the road.

How to obtain a meaningful quote
- Choose the exact motorcycle first: NS160, or the Apache trim with its ABS, fork, display and lighting equipment identified.
- Ask the dealer for ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, handling or documentation charges, accessories and any finance fees as separate line items.
- Request the quote for your actual city and state. Registration taxes and insurance premiums can change the on-road total substantially.
- Ask whether the quoted amount is a regular price, an exchange incentive or a limited-period offer, and obtain the offer’s expiry date in writing.
- Compare the final on-road totals only after both motorcycles have equivalent safety equipment and broadly comparable electronics.
Fuel economy: no verified winner is established
The available pages show different claimed or reported mileage figures, but they do not document a same-route, same-rider test of the current, equivalent variants. That means neither motorcycle can responsibly be called the verified real-world mileage winner from this evidence.

Your result will vary with traffic density, average speed, road gradient, tyre pressure, passenger or luggage load, warm-up time and throttle use. If fuel cost is a major part of your decision, record the first three or four full-tank fills after purchase using the same pump and a consistent calculation. Treat the result as your own operating data, not a universal rating for every rider.
Trim-matching checklist before you compare value
Use this checklist to prevent an apparently cheaper motorcycle from winning only because it has less equipment:
- ABS: confirm single-channel or dual-channel, and whether Apache RLP is included.
- Front fork: confirm telescopic or 37 mm USD.
- Lighting: verify whether the 2026 Apache projector headlamp and all-LED package is fitted.
- Clutch: confirm the Assist & Slipper Clutch on the Apache variant being invoiced.
- Instrument cluster: check whether the Apache has the TFT unit and the navigation functions you expect.
- Kerb weight: use 143 kg for the listed single-channel Apache or 146 kg for the specified higher variants; do not apply one figure to every Apache.
- Price basis: label every amount as ex-showroom or on-road and include the city.
Test-ride method for a fair decision
A short ride is not a laboratory test, but using the same route and sequence helps you compare the things specifications cannot settle.
- Set the mirrors and confirm that both feet or your preferred one-foot stance feel secure at a stop.
- Ride each motorcycle through a slow U-turn and a tight parking maneuver. Note steering effort and how manageable the bike feels while walking it backward.
- Use the same quiet stretch to assess clutch take-up, throttle smoothness and low-speed response. Do not treat this as a timed acceleration test.
- On the Apache, switch through Sport, Urban and Rain only where it is safe and legal, and note whether the change is easy to understand from the instrument display.
- Apply the front and rear brakes progressively at normal road speed. Look for a predictable lever feel and an ABS intervention that does not surprise you.
- Ride over the roads you use most: broken urban asphalt, speed humps and a short open section. Focus on posture, reach to the bars and whether the suspension feels acceptable to you.
- If you carry a passenger, repeat the route with the passenger seated and check footpeg position, balance at stops and available grab points.
- Inspect the exact motorcycle after the ride. Confirm the fork type, ABS hardware, display and lighting against the written quotation.
- Ask for the nearest authorised service centre, scheduled-maintenance intervals and parts prices for routine items. Treat the answers as dealer information, not proof of long-term ownership cost.
Ownership, service and reliability: what is not established
The available material does not provide comparable longitudinal data on engine reliability, dealer service quality, maintenance cost, resale value or long-term durability. It would be misleading to declare either brand the dependable choice on that basis.
You can still reduce ownership risk before buying. Check service-centre access from your home and workplace, ask the dealer for the scheduled-maintenance chart and obtain written estimates for routine consumables. Confirm warranty terms, roadside-assistance coverage if offered, parts ordering times and the process for handling an unresolved issue. These checks are local and dealer-specific, so a rider in one city may receive a different practical experience from a rider elsewhere.
Which bike suits which priority?
| Your priority | More logical starting point | Why, and what to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Standard published safety hardware | NS160 | Its listed specification includes dual-channel ABS, a 37 mm USD fork and 300 mm front disc. Verify the delivered motorcycle. |
| Highest quoted peak output and selectable modes | Apache RTR 160 4V | Sport mode is listed at 17.55 PS, and the range offers Sport, Urban and Rain. Check the exact variant. |
| Lower listed kerb weight | Apache RTR 160 4V | TVS lists 143 kg for single-channel ABS and 146 kg for specified higher variants versus 152 kg for the NS160. |
| Top-trim display and navigation features | Apache RTR 160 4V higher variant | TFT and navigation features are variant-specific, not range-wide. |
| Simple price comparison | Neither until quotes are matched | Online prices use different cities, dates and variants; obtain two written on-road quotes. |
Final verdict
Choose by trim and test ride. The Apache RTR 160 4V offers a modestly higher quoted Sport-mode output, three riding modes and, on higher variants, USD suspension, dual-channel ABS with RLP, TFT equipment and the 2026 lighting and clutch updates. The NS160’s published specification gives you dual-channel ABS, a 37 mm USD fork and large 300 mm front disc without relying on an Apache trim upgrade.
If the two motorcycles cost similar amounts in your city, decide which equipment you will actually use and which riding position feels better on your roads. If the Apache quote is for a single-channel, telescopic-fork version, compare it against the NS160 as that exact motorcycle—not against a higher Apache shown in a brochure. If you are considering the Apache’s higher trim, include its extra equipment and 146 kg listed weight in the comparison. Neither bike has a proven universal advantage in real-world fuel economy, comfort, reliability or service quality from the evidence available here.
