Bajaj Pulsar NS160 or Keeway SR125? A Spec-by-Spec Buying Guide

The NS160 leads on published power, torque and explicitly listed dual-channel ABS; the SR125 is lighter and has a larger tank. Here is how to choose without confusing specifications with real-world test results.

Choose the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 if your priority is higher published engine output and a manufacturer-listed dual-channel ABS system. Choose the Keeway SR125 if a much lower stated weight and a larger fuel tank matter more. Neither specification sheet proves which bike accelerates faster in traffic, uses less fuel, brakes in a shorter distance, rides more comfortably, or will be more reliable. Those questions require a test ride and current local information.

At a glance: what separates the two bikes

The Pulsar NS160 and SR125 target different priorities. Bajaj lists a 160.3 cc oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine, 12.5 kW (17 PS) at 9,000 rpm and 14.6 Nm at 7,250 rpm. Keeway lists a 125 cc air-cooled engine with electronic fuel injection, 7.3 kW at 9,000 rpm and 8.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The published hardware also diverges. The NS160 page explicitly lists dual-channel ABS, a 37 mm upside-down front fork and a Nitrox monoshock. The SR125 page lists front and rear disc brakes, telescopic forks and twin rear shocks, but the page reviewed does not state an ABS specification. That omission is not proof that every SR125 lacks ABS; check the exact variant and local documents.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keeway’s listed curb weight is 120 kg versus 152 kg kerb weight for the Bajaj. It also lists a 14.5-litre tank, compared with 12 litres for the NS160. Because manufacturers can use different weighing terminology and methods, treat the 32 kg difference as a broad published comparison rather than a laboratory measurement. A larger tank does not automatically mean longer range without comparable, verified consumption data.

In practical terms, this is not a simple displacement upgrade within one model family. The NS160 is the output-and-equipment choice on paper, while the SR125 emphasizes a lightweight format and greater nominal fuel capacity. Your roads, passenger use, dealer access and budget should decide which trade-off matters.

Engine and performance: why the NS160 wins on paper

More displacement and output

On the published numbers, the NS160 produces 12.5 kW (17 PS), while the SR125 produces 7.3 kW. The Bajaj’s listed 14.6 Nm peak torque is also well above the Keeway’s 8.2 Nm. That gives the NS160 the stronger specification-sheet case for riders who regularly carry a passenger, climb faster roads, or want more reserve when joining traffic.

Those figures describe peak output at stated engine speeds. They do not tell you how either motorcycle responds below the peak, how smooth its gearbox is, or how it behaves with a rider and luggage. Do not turn the power gap into a claimed top speed or 0–60 time: no controlled comparative test is available here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to interpret the rpm figures

Both manufacturers quote maximum power at 9,000 rpm, but their torque peaks occur at different speeds: 7,250 rpm for the NS160 and 7,500 rpm for the SR125. A peak figure is one point on an engine’s operating curve, not a description of every gear or road speed. Ask for a ride that includes crawling traffic, a normal overtake and a sustained open section so you can judge response for yourself. Record impressions rather than treating a short burst as a measured performance test.

Cooling and injection systems

Bajaj lists oil cooling and fuel injection; Keeway lists air cooling and EFI. These are useful technical distinctions when you are comparing equipment, but they are not a reliability ranking. Maintenance quality, oil specifications, service intervals, ambient temperature and riding conditions can matter more than the cooling label alone.

Fuel injection appears on both specification sheets, so neither model requires a carburettor-specific buying decision. That does not establish identical throttle response, cold starting, economy or electronic warranty coverage. Ask the dealer which maintenance operations are scheduled and what diagnostic support is available locally.

Brakes and safety equipment

What Bajaj explicitly lists

The NS160 specification information explicitly names dual-channel ABS with front and rear disc brakes. Dual-channel ABS can intervene at both wheels during an impending lock-up, but actual stopping distance depends on tyres, road surface, rider input and calibration. The specification does not substitute for an emergency-braking test in the conditions where you ride.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the warning lamp during the start-up sequence and ask the dealer to explain the normal self-check. Confirm that the quoted motorcycle, brochure and invoice all identify the same ABS-equipped variant. A stock change or model-year update should not be assumed to have identical equipment without documentation.

What is and is not established for the SR125

Keeway’s reviewed SR125 page lists front and rear discs but does not state an ABS fitment. Treat that as an information gap, not as confirmation that the motorcycle has no ABS. Ask the dealer to show the exact variant’s equipment list, dashboard warning light and registration documentation. If the answer differs between markets or model years, record the version and manufacturing date on the quotation.

Do not compare the Bajaj’s documented dual-channel system with an assumed feature absence on the Keeway. If ABS is decisive for you, make written confirmation a condition of booking and inspect the delivered motorcycle before accepting it.

Weight, suspension and everyday manoeuvring

Keeway’s 120 kg curb figure is 32 kg below Bajaj’s 152 kg kerb figure on the published numbers. A lighter motorcycle can be easier to push out of a parking space, balance at walking pace and load onto a stand. Whether it feels more agile at speed depends on geometry, tyres, suspension setup and weight distribution, none of which is established by the listed figures.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The NS160 uses a 37 mm USD fork and Nitrox monoshock, while the SR125 uses telescopic forks and twin rear shocks. These are meaningful hardware differences for a buyer who cares about adjustment, appearance or component layout, but they do not prove that one bike absorbs potholes better. During a test ride, use the same route and note steering effort, rebound after a speed breaker, passenger movement and ground clearance over your usual roads.

Try each bike with the engine switched off as well as running. Push it backwards on a slope, turn the bars through a full lock and place both feet where you normally stop. These simple checks reveal whether the seat, handlebar reach and balance suit your body; they do not replace a professional measurement of chassis behaviour.

Fuel tank and running-range expectations

The SR125’s listed 14.5-litre tank is 2.5 litres larger than the NS160’s 12-litre tank. That may reduce refuelling frequency, but capacity alone cannot establish range. Consumption varies with speed, traffic, load, tyre pressure and fuel quality, and no controlled, like-for-like economy test is available here.

BikeWale displayed economy figures of 44 km/l for the NS160 and 47 km/l for the SR125. These are third-party comparison-page estimates, not manufacturer claims or controlled test results. The same page showed a Patna on-road snapshot of ₹1,58,223 for the NS160 and ₹1,49,135 for the SR125. Both prices and economy figures are location-specific page values; they are not guaranteed for your city, date, variant or riding style.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you use the bikes for touring, map fuel stops from your own observed consumption after several tanks rather than multiplying the tank-size difference by an assumed mileage. Keep tyre pressures at the manufacturer’s recommendation and log distance, traffic and load. That creates a useful personal baseline without presenting it as a universal test result.

Price, availability and the quote you should request

Bajaj’s current model information includes an ex-showroom Delhi starting-price display, but the page can show different price modules. The reviewed Keeway technical page does not establish a dependable India-specific SR125 price or local inventory. Therefore, a national winner on price cannot be stated from these sources.

Before comparing totals, request written quotes for the same date and specification. Ask each seller to separate ex-showroom price, compulsory registration, insurance, taxes, handling or logistics charges, accessories, extended warranty and any finance cost. Confirm whether the quoted motorcycle is the same ABS and colour variant shown in the brochure.

Availability checks for the Keeway

  • Call an authorised dealer in your city and ask whether an SR125 is physically available for inspection and test riding.
  • Confirm the model year, VIN or manufacturing month, warranty terms and parts-order process.
  • Ask for the on-road total in writing rather than relying on an old comparison-page snapshot.
  • Verify that the quoted equipment, especially ABS status, matches the motorcycle you will receive.
  • Ask who performs warranty work, where routine servicing is carried out and how long commonly replaced parts normally take to arrive.

Which bike suits which rider?

Choose the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 when…

  • You value the higher published 160.3 cc, 17 PS and 14.6 Nm figures.
  • Dual-channel ABS explicitly listed by the manufacturer is a deciding safety requirement.
  • Your routes include faster traffic, gradients or frequent two-up riding where additional stated output may be useful.
  • You prefer the listed USD fork and monoshock configuration and can confirm a local service and purchase quote.
  • You want a motorcycle whose specification sheet gives a clear two-wheel ABS claim and are prepared to validate comfort and controls in person.

Choose the Keeway SR125 when…

  • Low published weight is your strongest priority for parking, tight lanes and low-speed handling.
  • You prefer the listed 14.5-litre tank and accept that its real range is unverified.
  • The 125 cc output is sufficient for your commute and a local dealer can confirm the exact safety equipment.
  • You have checked parts, warranty and service access in your city rather than assuming nationwide availability.
  • You value easy manual manoeuvring more than the Bajaj’s higher stated output, after confirming that the seat and controls fit you.

When neither specification sheet is enough

If your decision depends on comfort, vibration, pillion space, clutch effort, heat, braking feel, fuel economy or reliability, do not decide from the table alone. Those are rider- and route-dependent questions. Arrange back-to-back rides with similar tyre pressures and fuel levels, then repeat the same urban loop, rough section and open-road merge.

Include your normal helmet, jacket and footwear when possible. Check whether mirrors remain useful with a passenger, whether your knees contact the tank naturally and whether the stand is easy to deploy. Ask the dealer what luggage, grab rail or accessory fitments are approved; do not assume that an accessory shown in a photograph is included in the quoted price.

A practical test-ride checklist

  1. Confirm the identity. Photograph the model designation, variant, manufacturing date and equipment label before riding.
  2. Check controls at rest. Operate the clutch, front brake, rear brake, indicators and horn. Look for an ABS warning indicator where applicable and ask what it signifies at startup.
  3. Ride at walking pace. Make U-turns and manoeuvre into a parking space to compare steering effort and balance.
  4. Use your normal surface. Cross a representative speed breaker and broken patch legally and slowly; note suspension response without treating it as a laboratory result.
  5. Perform controlled braking. In a safe, empty area, progressively use both brakes. Do not attempt a dramatic lock-up test on public roads.
  6. Try the intended load. If you regularly carry a passenger, take one on the second ride and check seating, stability and acceleration feel without claiming a measured performance result.
  7. Check start-up and low-speed heat. Observe the normal warning-light sequence and note subjective heat or fan behaviour in traffic, without turning one ride into a reliability conclusion.
  8. Record the details. Write down odometer reading, weather, traffic, route and any dealer claims so the two rides are comparable.

Questions to settle before booking

  • Which exact model year and variant is being quoted?
  • Does the SR125 you will receive have ABS, and where is that specification documented?
  • What are the current registration and insurance amounts in your city?
  • How long will routine parts and body panels take to obtain locally?
  • What is included in the warranty, and what maintenance schedule applies?
  • Can you obtain a second test ride with your usual passenger and helmet?
  • Are the displayed tank, suspension and brake specifications identical to the motorcycle identified by the VIN?
  • Which charges are refundable or optional if you cancel before registration?

Bottom line for the NS160 versus SR125 decision

The evidence supports a clear split, not a universal winner. The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 has the larger engine, substantially higher stated power and torque, and an explicitly listed dual-channel ABS system. The Keeway SR125 is markedly lighter on its published figure and lists the larger fuel tank. Select the NS160 for output and documented two-wheel ABS; select the SR125 only after its exact safety equipment, availability, service support and local price are confirmed. Treat comfort, mileage, braking distance and reliability as test-ride or owner-verification questions rather than conclusions from these specifications.

Does the Keeway SR125 have ABS?

The reviewed Keeway page lists front and rear disc brakes but does not state an ABS fitment. Do not assume either presence or absence; request variant-specific written confirmation and inspect the motorcycle.

Which bike is lighter?

Keeway lists the SR125 at 120 kg curb weight, while Bajaj lists the NS160 at 152 kg kerb weight. The manufacturers may use different terminology or measurement methods, so treat the 32 kg gap as a broad published comparison.

Which has the bigger fuel tank?

The SR125 lists a 14.5-litre tank and the NS160 lists 12 litres. A larger tank does not prove longer range because comparable, controlled consumption data is unavailable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are the quoted prices current across India?

No. BikeWale’s figures are a Patna on-road snapshot, and the official pages do not establish a universal, current total for every city. Obtain dated, itemised local quotes covering registration, insurance, taxes and optional charges.

Which one should I buy for daily commuting?

Choose according to your route and priorities: the NS160 offers higher stated output and explicitly listed dual-channel ABS, while the SR125 offers a lower published weight and larger tank. Test ride both and verify service access, safety equipment and local pricing.

The Bottom Line

Verdict: The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 is the stronger specification-sheet choice for output and explicitly listed dual-channel ABS. The Keeway SR125 is the lighter, larger-tank alternative. Confirm the SR125’s ABS status, availability, service support and city-specific on-road price before committing.
