Bajaj Pulsar N160 4V vs TVS Ronin: Which One Should You Buy?

The N160 SS suits sporty riders wanting 18.5 PS, traction control and TFT navigation; the TVS Ronin suits buyers prioritising 225.9cc torque, 181mm clearance and neo-retro design.

Short answer: choose the Bajaj Pulsar N160 S or SS 4V if you want a sporty street-bike format, Bajaj’s new 18.5 PS engine and, in the SS, traction control plus a TFT with Google Maps mirroring. Choose the TVS Ronin if your priorities are its larger 225.9cc engine, stronger published low-rpm torque, 181mm ground clearance and modern-retro design.

There is no universal winner. This is a specifications-led comparison of the 2026-announced N160 S/SS 4V and the Ronin range; it is not a claim based on a same-condition ride test. Confirm the exact trim, current local on-road quote and equipment before paying a booking amount.

The right buy depends on what you value more: the N160 SS is the technology-heavy, sporty choice; the N160 S keeps the same new 18.5 PS engine with a simpler display; and the Ronin trades some outright sport-bike intent for more displacement, published torque at low rpm, extra ground clearance and a neo-retro riding experience.

First, identify which Pulsar N160 4V you mean

“Pulsar N160 4V” is now an ambiguous name. Bajaj announced the N160 S and flagship N160 SS on 7 August 2026. Both use an all-new 165cc four-valve engine rated at 18.5 PS, with Intelligent Throttle and four riding modes described in Bajaj’s launch material. The SS adds responsive traction control and a 5-inch TFT capable of Google Maps mirroring; Bajaj’s current model information describes the S with a 5-inch colour LCD.

The older, separately listed base N160 is not the same motorcycle. Its product specification describes a 164.82cc two-valve engine producing 16 PS and 14.65 Nm at 6,750 rpm. Those figures must not be substituted for the new S/SS engine when comparing it with the Ronin. Unless stated otherwise below, “N160 4V” means the 2026 N160 S or N160 SS.

Key specifications at a glance

Comparison point Bajaj Pulsar N160 S/SS 4V TVS Ronin What it means
Engine New 165cc, four-valve engine; Bajaj-rated 18.5 PS 225.9cc, four-valve, oil-cooled engine Ronin has substantially more displacement; the new Pulsar is a major step above the old 2V N160
Published peak output 18.5 PS; launch material does not state the rpm in the supplied information 20.4 PS at 7,750 rpm Ronin has the higher published peak-power figure
Published torque New S/SS torque is not stated in the launch information used here 19.93 Nm at 3,750 rpm Do not compare Ronin torque with the old 2V N160’s 14.65 Nm as if it were the 4V figure
Transmission Launch material confirms the new engine and electronic-throttle features but does not establish every drivetrain detail Five-speed, fuel-injected, assist-and-slipper clutch Verify the selected Pulsar’s final drivetrain specification if clutch or gearing is decisive
ABS Bajaj lists a dual-channel N160 configuration; check whether the chosen S or SS trim is the dual-channel version Base brochure trim is single-channel; mid and top trims are dual-channel Compare like-for-like safety equipment, not model names alone
Seat height Existing base N160 specification says 795mm; S/SS confirmation is not stated 795mm in the 2025 brochure Published figures suggest similar reach, but verify the actual motorcycle
Ground clearance Existing base N160 specification says 165mm; S/SS figure is not confirmed 181mm in the 2025 brochure Ronin has the documented advantage for broken roads and tall speed humps
Kerb weight New S/SS figure is not stated; the old base N160 is listed at 152kg 159kg for base and 160kg for mid/top trims Do not assume the new Pulsar weighs 152kg
Fuel tank Existing base N160 specification says 14 litres; S/SS confirmation is not stated 14 litres in the brochure Capacity appears comparable only where the exact Pulsar specification is confirmed
Display and connectivity S: 5-inch colour LCD. SS: 5-inch TFT with Google Maps mirroring Asymmetric digital speedometer with SmartXonnect; functions vary by trim SS offers the clearest navigation-display advantage; Ronin equipment depends on variant
Launch or listed price S: ₹1,33,511; SS: ₹1,42,585, ex-showroom Delhi at the 7 August 2026 launch 2025 brochure: ₹1,24,790 base, ₹1,47,290 mid, ₹1,59,390 top, ex-showroom These are different dates and trims, not current on-road price quotes

Engine character: displacement versus the new Pulsar output

N160 S and SS: a sharper 165cc platform

Bajaj rates the new four-valve N160 S/SS engine at 18.5 PS. That is a meaningful increase over the separately specified 16 PS, two-valve base N160. The launch description also mentions Intelligent Throttle and four modes, suggesting that the new bike’s throttle response is intended to be configurable rather than fixed to one map.

The supplied launch information does not state the S/SS torque figure or its rpm. Therefore, it is not technically sound to declare a precise torque gap against the Ronin by using the old base N160’s 14.65 Nm. Buyers interested in roll-on response should ask the dealer for the final technical sheet and judge the engine in a test ride.

Ronin: more capacity and a low-rpm torque claim

TVS’s 2025 brochure specifies a 225.9cc, four-valve, oil-cooled engine producing 20.4 PS at 7,750 rpm and 19.93 Nm at 3,750 rpm. The torque peak arrives at a relatively low engine speed on paper, which suits riders who want relaxed acceleration without constantly chasing the top of the rev range. It also gives the Ronin a clear displacement advantage over the 165cc Pulsar.

The Ronin uses a five-speed fuel-injected transmission with an assist-and-slipper clutch, according to that brochure. The available Bajaj launch information does not establish every transmission detail for the new N160 S/SS, so do not infer gearing or clutch hardware from the older N160.

Which one fits your roads and riding style?

Choose the N160 S/SS for a sporty street-bike brief

The Pulsar’s streetfighter styling and compact-engine format make more sense for a rider whose daily use is primarily urban commuting, quick direction changes and an aggressive visual design. The SS is the one to consider when electronic aids and an integrated navigation display matter; the S keeps the same quoted engine output while using the colour LCD instead of the SS TFT.

Because the new variants’ final seat, clearance and weight figures are not established in the supplied launch data, inspect the actual motorcycle rather than assuming the old N160 dimensions. A showroom check should include handlebar reach, knee angle, steering lock and whether your feet can find the ground comfortably.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Ronin for torque-focused riding and rougher roads

The Ronin’s 19.93 Nm at 3,750 rpm, 181mm clearance and modern-retro body make it the more logical choice for riders who regularly encounter damaged urban roads, tall speed breakers or unpaved approaches. Its published 795mm seat height is the same as the existing base N160 figure, but the Ronin’s greater clearance and approximately 159–160kg kerb weight change how it feels to move around at low speed.

The extra mass is not automatically a disadvantage. It can make the motorcycle feel planted, but riders who frequently push a bike backward in a tight parking space should compare the actual balance and handlebar leverage before deciding.

For longer rides, compare comfort rather than engine size alone

The Ronin’s larger engine and low-rpm torque specification look favorable for carrying luggage or maintaining relaxed speeds, while the N160’s appeal is its sportier platform and new electronic interface. Neither set of figures proves which motorcycle is more comfortable over several hours. Check seat pressure points, wind exposure, vibration, luggage mounting options and service support on your intended routes.

Safety equipment and trim differences

ABS: identify the exact variant

ABS is not a range-wide, one-line specification for either motorcycle. Bajaj’s current product information presents a dual-channel N160 configuration, and the SS is shown as dual-channel in that information; confirm the exact S or SS trim on the invoice and motorcycle. The Ronin brochure lists a single-channel base trim and dual-channel mid and top trims.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a fair comparison, put a dual-channel N160 beside a dual-channel Ronin, or explicitly accept the safety-equipment difference if you are comparing entry prices. A lower ex-showroom number can reflect fewer braking channels rather than a better deal.

Traction control and riding modes

The N160 SS adds responsive traction control, a feature not identified for the N160 S in the supplied launch description. Bajaj describes four modes for the new engine. TVS lists Rain and Urban modes on the Ronin’s mid and top variants in the brochure. Ask the dealer to demonstrate which modes and controls are enabled on the specific motorcycle, because feature names alone do not reveal how aggressively each mode intervenes.

Cockpit, navigation and connected functions

The N160 SS has the strongest headline technology: its 5-inch TFT can mirror Google Maps. The N160 S uses a 5-inch colour LCD, so it is not simply a less powerful engine version; the display package is a central reason to choose between the two Pulsar trims.

The Ronin uses an asymmetric digital speedometer and SmartXonnect connectivity. TVS varies connected functions by trim, so determine whether the particular base, mid or top motorcycle includes the alerts, phone integration and controls you actually use. A longer feature list is not automatically more useful if navigation visibility, glove-friendly switches or phone pairing are poor in your riding position.

Dimensions, clearance and everyday handling

Published dimensions need careful attribution in this comparison. The existing base N160 specification lists a 795mm seat, 165mm ground clearance, 152kg kerb weight and 14-litre tank. Those numbers belong to the two-valve base model unless Bajaj confirms they also apply to the S/SS. The Ronin brochure lists a 795mm seat, 181mm clearance, 159kg kerb weight for the base and 160kg for mid and top trims, plus a 14-litre tank.

That makes the Ronin’s clearance advantage established against the old N160 specification, not necessarily a verified gap against the new S/SS. When comparing motorcycles in person, measure practical clearance at the lowest exhaust or engine point, not just the headline number, and check whether your usual speed breakers cause contact.

Fuel economy: useful evidence, not a promise

Autocar India’s comparison page, accessed 13 October 2026, lists user-reported mileage of 47 km/l for the N160 and 40.47 km/l for the Ronin. It also lists publisher-tested city figures of 43.16 km/l for the N160 and 32.3 km/l for the Ronin, plus tested highway figures of 46.1 km/l and 36.6 km/l respectively.

These are Autocar’s figures for the listed models and configurations. They are not official guarantees, are not necessarily results from the new N160 S/SS, and the available excerpt does not describe a controlled, same-condition test. Treat them as directional evidence: the smaller Pulsar platform may cost less to fuel in some use, but your speed, traffic, payload, tyre pressures, fuel quality and maintenance will determine actual consumption.

Price and value: why a dealer quote matters

Bajaj launched the N160 S at ₹1,33,511 and the N160 SS at ₹1,42,585, both ex-showroom Delhi, on 7 August 2026. These are launch figures, not present-day on-road prices. Registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and dealer charges can materially change the amount you pay in another city.

TVS’s 2025 brochure lists the Ronin at ₹1,24,790 for the base trim, ₹1,47,290 for the mid trim and ₹1,59,390 for the top trim, ex-showroom. The brochure also displays other colour and price combinations. Because the Pulsar figures are from 2026 and the Ronin figures from a 2025 brochure, placing them in one ranking without a fresh quote can be misleading.

Request written, same-city quotations for the exact N160 S, N160 SS and Ronin trims you are considering. Compare the final amount, insurance provider, accessories, warranty terms and delivery date rather than only the ex-showroom headline.

Which version should you choose?

Pick the Bajaj Pulsar N160 S if

  • You want the new 18.5 PS four-valve engine but do not need the SS’s TFT navigation display.
  • Your preferred styling is a conventional sporty streetfighter rather than a neo-retro motorcycle.
  • The S is available locally with the ABS configuration and price that fit your budget.
  • You are prepared to verify its unconfirmed seat, clearance, weight and torque figures before purchase.

Pick the Bajaj Pulsar N160 SS if

  • Traction control is important to you, especially for changing urban conditions.
  • You will genuinely use Google Maps mirroring on the 5-inch TFT.
  • You want the N160’s sport-bike character with the most complete electronics package in the range.
  • The SS’s current on-road premium over the S is acceptable after comparing like-for-like ABS and insurance.

Pick the TVS Ronin if

  • You value 225.9cc displacement and the brochure’s 19.93 Nm at 3,750 rpm more than a compact streetfighter layout.
  • Your routes include potholes, tall speed breakers or rough shoulders where 181mm clearance is useful.
  • You prefer modern-retro styling and are comfortable choosing among base, mid and top equipment levels.
  • You want a documented five-speed assist-and-slipper clutch and are willing to accept the Ronin’s higher published kerb weight.

A practical buying and test-ride checklist

  1. Write down the exact model: N160 S, N160 SS, old/base N160, or a specific Ronin trim. Do not let a quotation use only “N160” or “Ronin” without a variant name.
  2. Match safety equipment: confirm front and rear ABS channels, the presence of traction control, and which riding modes are active on the motorcycle you will receive.
  3. Verify the specification sheet: ask for the new Pulsar’s torque, rpm, kerb weight, seat height, ground clearance, tank capacity and transmission details in writing if those figures affect your decision.
  4. Test the fit: sit in your normal riding position, turn the bars fully, place both feet down, operate the clutch and stand up from the seat. Repeat with your usual helmet and jacket if possible.
  5. Test the electronics: pair your phone, inspect map legibility, try the mode switch and check whether the display remains readable in direct sunlight. Ask what functions require a phone connection.
  6. Ride the same route: include a traffic section, a speed breaker, a rough patch, a steady open-road stretch and a stop-and-go parking manoeuvre. Compare throttle response, low-speed balance, braking feel and heat rather than chasing a single acceleration impression.
  7. Get a complete quote: request ex-showroom, registration, insurance, handling or documentation charges, accessories, extended warranty and delivery date as separate line items.
  8. Check ownership support: locate the authorised service outlet you would actually use, ask about service intervals and confirm parts availability for the display, sensors and electronic controls.

What this comparison can and cannot establish

The engine outputs, equipment and prices above come from Bajaj launch information, Bajaj’s current model information and TVS’s 2025 brochure, with economy figures attributed to Autocar India. The available material does not establish a current city-specific on-road price, actual stock, or an independent same-condition test of the newly launched N160 S/SS against the Ronin.

Bajaj Chief Business Officer, Two-wheeler business unit, Sarang Kanade, said at the 7 August 2026 launch that the Pulsar N160 platform had seen “tremendous acceptance” and that the S and flagship SS were intended to take that success further. That is a manufacturer statement about the product strategy, not independent evidence of comparative performance.

Final choice

For a rider choosing by published specifications and equipment, the TVS Ronin is the stronger match when low-rpm torque, 225.9cc capacity, 181mm clearance and neo-retro styling are the priorities. The Bajaj Pulsar N160 SS is the more compelling alternative when a sporty street-bike format, 18.5 PS and integrated navigation-plus-traction-control technology matter most; the N160 S is the simpler way into that new 4V engine. Make the final decision only after matching trims, confirming the new Pulsar’s missing dimensions and torque data, and comparing written local on-road quotes.
