There is no single winner for every rider. On the cited manufacturer pages, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 2V has the higher claimed power and torque, a 14-litre tank, dual-channel ABS and two disc brakes. The Hero Xtreme 160R is listed as 12.5 kg lighter, 5 mm lower in seat height and cheaper on the Delhi ex-showroom prices shown for the listed variants. Those are specification-sheet advantages, not independent ride-test results.
Choose the N160 2V if the listed braking hardware, output and fuel capacity matter most. Choose the Xtreme 160R if low kerb weight, a slightly lower seat or the lower listed Delhi price matters more. Before paying, match the exact local variant, confirm the rear-brake and ABS configuration, obtain an on-road quote and ride both motorcycles.

What this comparison actually covers
The name Bajaj Pulsar N160 2V is important. Bajaj’s product material lists separate 2V and 4V N160 configurations. The 2V versions use a 164.82 cc, air-cooled, two-valve engine; the 4V versions are listed at 164.9 cc with oil cooling and different output and equipment. This article uses the 2V figures only, so a 4V trim should not be treated as an upgrade of every specification shown here. Check the variant name on the quotation and registration documents.

Specification snapshot
The table brings the directly comparable published figures together. A difference calculated from those figures is shown only to make the choice easier to see.
| Specification | Bajaj Pulsar N160 2V | Hero Xtreme 160R | What it means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | 164.82 cc, 2-valve, air-cooled | 163.2 cc, 2-valve, air-cooled | Both are two-valve, air-cooled single-cylinder configurations as listed by their manufacturers. |
| Claimed peak power | 16 PS at 8,750 rpm | 15 PS at 8,500 rpm | The Bajaj page claims 1 PS more; this is not an independent acceleration result. |
| Claimed peak torque | 14.65 Nm; Bajaj’s specification page says 6,750 rpm, while its variant-comparison page says 6,000 rpm | 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm | Bajaj’s own pages conflict on the torque-speed point. Verify the exact brochure or dealer specification for the motorcycle you are buying. |
| Front brake | 300 mm disc | 276 mm disc | The listed front-disc diameter is larger on the Bajaj. |
| Rear brake and ABS | 230 mm rear disc; dual-channel ABS with ride modes on the cited 2V specification page | Single-channel ABS is listed; the page’s rear-brake wording is ambiguous | Do not assume the Hero’s rear hardware from a photograph or a salesperson’s shorthand. Confirm it on the exact variant. |
| Kerb weight | 152 kg | 139.5 kg | The Xtreme is listed 12.5 kg lighter. Weight alone does not prove which bike will handle better for you. |
| Seat height | 795 mm | 790 mm | The published difference is 5 mm; leg length, footwear and seat shape still determine actual reach. |
| Fuel capacity | 14 L | 12 L | The Bajaj tank is listed 2 L larger. Tank capacity is not a mileage or range test. |
| Front suspension | USD fork on the cited 2V variant page | 37 mm telescopic fork | These are different hardware descriptions; setup quality and comfort cannot be inferred from the labels alone. |
| Rear suspension | The cited Bajaj comparison identifies the 2V equipment but does not give a rear-suspension adjustment figure | 7-step adjustable monoshock | The Hero page explicitly lists seven adjustment steps; ask Bajaj for the rear-shock specification for your trim. |
| Instrumentation and charging | Reverse monochrome LCD, turn-by-turn navigation and USB Type-A charger | Inverted LCD and USB charger | Feature names and connector details vary by trim, so inspect the supplied motorcycle. |
| Lighting | LED projector headlamp | LED lighting | Both pages list LED lighting; the Bajaj page specifies a projector headlamp. |

Engine output: a paper advantage for the N160 2V
What the claimed numbers say
Bajaj lists 16 PS at 8,750 rpm and 14.65 Nm for the N160 2V. Hero lists 15 PS at 8,500 rpm and 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm for the Xtreme 160R. On the published peak figures, the N160 has 1 PS and 0.65 Nm more. That can make the Bajaj the more attractive specification-sheet choice for a rider who prioritizes the highest listed output in this comparison.

Peak figures do not tell you how either engine responds at every throttle position, how smooth it feels in traffic, how quickly it accelerates with a passenger or how much fuel it uses. No independent test result is established here, so do not convert the numerical difference into a guaranteed road-performance result.
Resolve the Bajaj torque-rpm conflict
Bajaj’s own material gives two torque-speed values for the 2V: the dedicated specification page states 14.65 Nm at 6,750 rpm, while the variant-comparison page states 14.65 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Because the pages disagree, neither rpm value should be presented as definitive for every N160 2V. Ask the dealer to show the current variant brochure or technical sheet and keep that document with your purchase records.
Keep the 2V and 4V engines separate
The N160 product page also lists 4V variants at 164.9 cc with oil cooling. Their output, equipment and price can differ from the air-cooled 2V motorcycles. If a listing simply says “N160” without the valve count, confirm whether it is the 2V model before comparing numbers with the Xtreme 160R.

Brakes and ABS: the clearest safety-equipment difference
N160 2V hardware listed by Bajaj
The cited Bajaj 2V specification lists a 300 mm front disc, a 230 mm rear disc and dual-channel ABS, along with ride modes. Dual-channel ABS is the more extensive configuration on the published sheets because it addresses both wheels, but the table is still a specification comparison rather than a measured stopping-distance test.

Xtreme 160R configuration to verify
Hero’s page lists a 276 mm front disc and single-channel ABS. Its rear-brake text is not sufficiently clear to establish the exact rear hardware from the page alone. Confirm whether the motorcycle offered to you has a rear disc or another setup, and verify that the ABS type printed on the quotation matches the motorcycle.
Questions to ask before signing
- What is the exact variant name and model year on the invoice?
- Is ABS single-channel or dual-channel on this specific unit?
- What are the front and rear brake types and disc sizes?
- Can the salesperson show the VIN-linked specification sheet rather than a generic online image?
These checks matter because two motorcycles carrying the same family name can have different equipment tiers. Do not pay the price of a higher brake specification unless it is written into the quote.
Weight, seat height and physical fit
The 12.5 kg kerb-weight gap
Hero lists the Xtreme 160R at 139.5 kg kerb, compared with 152 kg for the N160 2V. The arithmetic difference is 12.5 kg. A lower listed weight may make pushing the bike out of a parking space or lifting it onto a stand feel easier, but rider height, handlebar leverage, balance and weight distribution also affect that experience. The figures do not prove that one motorcycle will corner better or feel more stable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe five-millimetre seat-height gap
The N160 2V is listed at 795 mm and the Xtreme at 790 mm. Five millimetres can help a shorter rider, but seat width and foam shape can matter as much as the nominal number. Sit on both bikes in your normal riding footwear, place each foot where you would at a stop and check whether you can move the motorcycle backward without stretching.

- Easy to Install: Car side seat gap filler is easy to install, simply insert it into the gap between the seat and the center console, gap seat filler for car can fit tightly without affecting the normal adjustment of the seat and the use of the seat belt

Use a repeatable fit check
- Wear the shoes and trousers you normally ride in.
- Hold the bike upright with the bars straight and check your reach to both grips.
- Place one foot firmly down, then move the bike backward using your legs rather than leaning it heavily.
- Turn the bars fully in each direction and check that your knees, wrists and elbows remain comfortable.
- Ask a passenger to sit briefly if two-up riding is part of your normal use, then repeat the stop-and-start check.
Suspension and included equipment
What is listed for the N160 2V
The cited Bajaj 2V variant page lists a USD front fork. It also lists a reverse monochrome LCD with turn-by-turn navigation, an LED projector headlamp and a USB Type-A charger. These features may be useful to riders who want navigation prompts and a specified USB-A connection, but confirm that the exact trim in your city carries every item.
What is listed for the Xtreme 160R
Hero lists a 37 mm telescopic front fork, a seven-step adjustable monoshock, an inverted LCD, a USB charger and LED lighting. A seven-step rear adjustment gives the owner defined positions to try, although the correct setting depends on load and road conditions. The existence of an adjustment range does not establish that the Xtreme will be more comfortable than the Bajaj.
Compare function, not labels
During a test ride, look for the controls you will actually use: readability of the display in sunlight, ease of reaching the USB port, clarity of navigation prompts and whether the suspension feels controlled over the roads you regularly use. “USD,” “telescopic” and “adjustable” describe hardware; they are not substitutes for a ride on your route.

These are city- and variant-specific website figures. The lowest listed Hero price is below every listed N160 2V price, but that does not make it an equivalent equipment comparison: the Hero table separates single-disc and double-disc versions, while the Bajaj page lists three 2V prices. Which bike suits which priority?
Choose the N160 2V when these are your priorities
- Dual-channel ABS: The cited Bajaj 2V page lists ABS on both channels, while Hero’s page lists single-channel ABS.
- Higher published output: Bajaj lists 16 PS and 14.65 Nm against Hero’s 15 PS and 14 Nm.
- Large tank: The N160 2V is listed with 14 L compared with 12 L for the Xtreme.
- Specific equipment: You want the listed LED projector headlamp, turn-by-turn navigation and USB Type-A charger, subject to trim confirmation.
Choose the Xtreme 160R when these are your priorities
- Lower kerb weight: Hero lists 139.5 kg, 12.5 kg below the N160 2V figure.
- Slightly lower seat: The listed 790 mm seat is 5 mm below the Bajaj figure.
- Lower Delhi ex-showroom entry price: The listed single-disc price is ₹1,13,829, with a double-disc variant at ₹1,20,346.
- Adjustable rear suspension: Hero lists a seven-step adjustable monoshock.
When the answer is not clear from the sheets
If your priorities conflict—for example, you want the lightest bike but also insist on dual-channel ABS—the specification pages cannot make the decision for you. Put the exact variants side by side, price the safety equipment you consider essential, then test the seating position and low-speed balance. A conditional choice is more honest than calling either motorcycle universally better.

- Identify the exact model. Write “Pulsar N160 2V” on the comparison sheet and exclude N160 4V figures. For the Hero, record whether the quote says single-disc or double-disc.
- Save the manufacturer pages. Keep copies of the Bajaj product page, Bajaj specification page and Hero specification page you used.
- Request a written quotation. It should show variant, ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and finance charges separately.
- Verify safety equipment. Ask the dealer to identify front and rear brakes and the ABS channel arrangement on the actual motorcycle.
- Check the disputed or unclear items. Ask Bajaj to confirm which torque-rpm figure applies to your 2V variant. Ask Hero to specify the rear-brake hardware in writing.
- Perform the fit check. Use the same clothing, riding position and passenger check on both motorcycles.
- Ride the same route. Include a slow U-turn, stop-start traffic, an uneven section and a stretch where you can assess cruising comfort legally and safely.
- Recalculate the final price. Compare on-road totals, not Delhi ex-showroom figures copied into another city.
- Choose the motorcycle whose verified equipment matches your priority. Do not pay for a trim whose ABS, disc brakes or features are not written on the order.
What a test ride can—and cannot—answer
A controlled ride can reveal whether you can comfortably support the bike, reach the controls, read the display and manage the clutch and steering at low speed. It can also show whether the suspension and seat suit your roads during the short ride. Repeat the same manoeuvres on each model so that your impression is comparable.
A dealer ride cannot establish long-term reliability, service quality, resale value, lifetime fuel cost or a statistically valid mileage figure. The available official pages provide no independent braking-distance, acceleration, comfort, mileage or ownership-cost study for this head-to-head. Keep those questions open until you have properly sourced evidence for your location and usage.
Common comparison mistakes
- Mixing 2V and 4V specifications: The N160 family name covers distinct configurations. Confirm valve count and cooling system.
- Ignoring the torque-rpm conflict: Bajaj’s two pages show different rpm values for the same listed 14.65 Nm claim.
- Assuming Hero’s rear brake: The Hero page’s wording is ambiguous; inspect and document the exact hardware.
- Comparing unlike prices: A single-disc Hero price and a higher-equipment Bajaj trim are not an apples-to-apples value comparison.
- Turning claimed output into a road verdict: Peak PS and Nm are manufacturer figures, not test results.
- Using tank size as range: A 14 L tank does not prove better mileage or longer range than a 12 L tank.
- Choosing by kerb weight alone: Distribution, ergonomics and suspension setup affect how a motorcycle feels at low and high speeds.
- Skipping the local quote: Delhi ex-showroom prices do not equal your city’s on-road payment.
Bottom line: decide by the feature you will use every ride
The Bajaj Pulsar N160 2V is the stronger paper match for a rider who values the listed 16 PS output, 14.65 Nm claim, 14 L tank, dual-channel ABS and two-disc braking equipment. The Hero Xtreme 160R is the stronger paper match for a rider who values a 139.5 kg kerb weight, 790 mm seat, seven-step rear-shock adjustment or the lower Delhi ex-showroom prices shown for its variants.
Neither conclusion is a measured performance ranking. Confirm the exact local trim, resolve the Bajaj torque-rpm discrepancy, clarify the Hero rear brake, compare complete on-road quotes and take both bikes on the same test route. The better motorcycle is the one whose verified safety equipment, fit and price align with your priorities.
