Both are 125 cc-class, five-speed petrol motorcycles. Your final decision should depend on the exact brake variant, a current dealer quote in your city, your riding position and a back-to-back test ride. The mileage and prices quoted by different sources are not equivalent tests or on-road offers.

Quick verdict: Pulsar for output, Super Splendor for commuter priorities
The Bajaj Pulsar N125 has the higher claimed peak output: 12 PS and 11 Nm. The Hero Super Splendor XTEC 2.0 is rated at 10.7 bhp and 10.6 Nm, but its equipment list is aimed squarely at everyday commuting, with i3S idle-stop, ISG silent starting, hazard lights and a connected instrument cluster.

Choose the Pulsar when acceleration response, the riding position and a more expressive design matter more than maximum economy. Choose the Hero when frequent traffic, longer fuel stops, convenience functions and variant flexibility are more important. Neither motorcycle can be declared objectively better for every Indian rider.

Source specifications are the manufacturers’ published figures; equipment and prices can change by variant, city and date. Hero’s brochure gives the disc-drum weight, while its extracted drum-drum text is malformed, so no drum-drum weight is shown here.

Why the Pulsar appeals to performance-minded commuters
The N125’s published 12 PS output gives it a clear numerical advantage over the Hero. Bajaj also promotes the model’s quickest-in-segment 0–60 km/h acceleration on its product page. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently instrumented test, so treat it as positioning rather than a guaranteed result in every condition. The five-speed gearbox and fuel-injected single-cylinder engine suit riders who want more willingness when merging, climbing or carrying a passenger.
The higher seat and 17-inch wheel format create a different cockpit from the Hero. Riders who prefer a more involved, upright street-bike feel may find the Pulsar more engaging. A short test ride is essential because quoted output does not reveal clutch effort, throttle calibration, vibration or how easily the engine pulls at low speed.

Why the Super Splendor remains a sensible commuter
Hero’s engine has a slightly lower published peak output, but the difference is small in torque terms. Its APFI system is paired with i3S idle-stop technology, which can shut the engine down during suitable stops and restart it when you operate the controls. ISG provides silent starting. These systems are intended to reduce wasted idling and make repeated urban stops less intrusive; their real benefit depends on traffic, rider habits and system operation.

The Hero’s five-speed constant-mesh transmission, lower seat and lighter disc-drum specification are familiar commuter-oriented choices. The motorcycle is not presented as a sporty alternative to the Pulsar; it is designed to make routine travel easy, economical and convenient.
Mileage claims: read the source before comparing the numbers
Published economy figures are inconsistent because the sources use different methods, dates and, in one case, a listing that is not consistently identified as the 2.0 version. They should not be treated as a controlled head-to-head road test.

The difference between Hero’s 72 and 75 kmpl figures reflects different published materials, not proof that every XTEC 2.0 will deliver either number. The 58 kmpl Pulsar entry likewise should not be presented as a universal real-world result. Traffic density, speed, payload, tyre pressure, fuel quality and maintenance can move consumption substantially. If economy determines your purchase, record your own fuel use over several full tanks after the test ride rather than choosing from one headline figure.

Pulsar N125 equipment
Bajaj’s specification and product pages list an LED headlamp with automatic headlamp-on function, an LED tail lamp, USB charging, a monochrome LCD and Bluetooth connectivity on the relevant equipment level. Bluetooth functions include call accept or reject, missed-call notifications and SMS notifications. Bajaj specifically notes that the digital Bluetooth console and LED headlamp are available only on select variants, so do not assume every N125 carries the same kit. Confirm the exact trim on the quotation.

The listed N125 specification uses a 240 mm front disc, a rear drum and combined braking system. That combination is useful for mixed urban riding, but the presence of a front disc does not remove the need for progressive braking technique or correctly maintained tyres.
Super Splendor XTEC 2.0 equipment
Hero’s brochure and current product page describe a digital meter, LED headlamp, Bluetooth call and message functions, hazard-light operation and USB Type-C charging. The launch release adds incoming-call alerts, SMS and missed-call alerts, caller ID and phone-battery status. Both drum and front-disc variants are described in the brochure, so equipment and braking hardware need to be checked against the exact stock motorcycle.
The Hero’s i3S idle-stop and ISG silent-start systems are more relevant to stop-and-go commuting than to a short weekend ride. If you dislike automatic engine stops, ask the dealer how the system behaves and whether it can be managed through the motorcycle’s controls. Verify warranty conditions, including the five-year or 70,000 km headline limit, in the written terms before purchase.
Size, comfort and road clearance
The two motorcycles fit differently despite their similar engine capacities. The Pulsar’s 795 mm seat is higher than the Hero’s 788 mm figure, while its 198 mm ground clearance is substantially greater than the Hero’s 170 mm. That extra clearance can be reassuring on steep ramps, broken village roads and speed breakers, although suspension tuning and rider weight still determine whether the chassis actually feels comfortable.

The Hero uses 18-inch wheels, compared with the Pulsar’s 17-inch wheels. Wheel diameter alone does not predict ride quality, but the larger format and lower seat can suit riders who want an easy reach to the ground. The Pulsar’s listed kerb weight is higher than the Hero disc-drum version. Neither specification tells you whether the handlebar, footpeg position or seat cushioning will suit your body, so sit on both with the clothing and footwear you normally use.
Questions to answer on the test ride
- Can you place both feet securely when stopping on a cambered road?
- Does the clutch engage smoothly during crawling traffic?
- Do the mirrors show traffic without your shoulders blocking the view?
- Can you lift the motorcycle off the side stand and reverse it comfortably?
- Does the suspension remain composed over the potholes and speed breakers on your normal route?
- Can a passenger sit naturally without interfering with your arms or knees?
Brakes, tyres and everyday safety
The Pulsar specification lists a front disc and rear drum with CBS. Hero offers a front disc or front drum paired with a rear drum, depending on the selected variant. A front-disc model generally gives stronger heat management under repeated braking, but the rider should compare lever feel, modulation and low-speed stability rather than selecting on hardware labels alone.
Both motorcycles are listed with tubeless-tyre equipment, which can reduce the inconvenience of a puncture compared with a tube-type setup. Check the tyre brand, manufacturing date and tread condition on the actual motorcycle, especially if it has been in dealer stock. Set pressures to the manufacturer’s recommendation and inspect them before a long ride; incorrect pressure can alter braking distance, steering effort and economy.

Price: compare like-for-like and include on-road costs
Bajaj’s current product page displays ₹92,152 for the LED Disc BT variant in Delhi ex-showroom pricing. This is a manufacturer-displayed figure for one city and trim, not a nationwide on-road price. A ZigWheels comparison lists ₹92,270 for the N125 LED Disc BT and ₹84,448 for a Hero Super Splendor XTEC drum entry, but its listing is not consistently established as the XTEC 2.0. Those numbers are third-party comparison entries, not dealer quotations.

Ask each dealer for an itemised written quote showing ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, handling charges if any, accessories and financing fees. Compare the same brake variant and insurance coverage. A lower ex-showroom number can disappear once registration and insurance are added, while a higher-spec trim may be better value if you would otherwise add its lighting, connectivity or charging equipment later.
Which bike suits which rider?
Choose the Bajaj Pulsar N125 if you want
- The higher published peak power and a more energetic response when roads open up.
- A 17-inch-wheel street-bike stance and greater listed ground clearance.
- A front-disc/rear-drum CBS setup on the specified trim.
- Bluetooth and LED equipment, provided the dealer confirms the selected variant includes them.
- A motorcycle that feels less utilitarian for occasional leisure rides.
Choose the Hero Super Splendor XTEC 2.0 if you want
- Commuter-focused systems such as i3S idle-stop and ISG silent start.
- The larger listed fuel tank and lower seat on the disc-drum version.
- Choice between front drum and front-disc variants.
- Hazard lights, USB Type-C charging and a broad set of call and message alerts.
- To evaluate Hero’s higher published economy claims, while accepting that actual mileage varies.
Consider both if your priorities are mixed
If you ride mostly in town but occasionally use open roads, neither specification settles the decision. The Pulsar’s output advantage may be noticeable when overtaking, while the Hero’s convenience systems may matter more during daily congestion. If your route includes rough roads, compare suspension response and clearance in person. If you carry a passenger every day, test both with a passenger rather than inferring comfort from kerb weight.
A practical buying process
- Define your route. Write down the percentage of traffic, open road, broken surfaces and passenger use. This prevents a headline mileage or power figure from dominating an otherwise practical decision.
- Select the exact variants. Confirm front-brake type, LED lighting, Bluetooth console, charging port and colour on the written quotation. Variant names can differ between websites and dealer systems.
- Collect city-specific on-road prices. Request itemised quotes from authorised dealers for the same registration location and insurance cover.
- Inspect the motorcycles. Check manufacturing date, tyre condition, panel alignment, display operation, warning lights, horn, indicators, brakes and charging port.
- Ride both on a representative route. Include a speed breaker, a tight U-turn, slow traffic, a short open section and a stop with both feet down. Compare clutch action, vibration, steering effort and braking feel.
- Test the electronics safely. Pair a phone while stationary, verify call and message alerts and check whether the interface is readable without distracting you. Do not handle the phone while moving.
- Confirm ownership terms. Read the warranty, service requirements, roadside-assistance terms and parts availability before paying a booking amount.
- Choose based on repeated use. Select the motorcycle that leaves you less tired and more confident after the test ride, not simply the one with the best brochure number.
Ownership checks before delivery
Ask the dealer to demonstrate the cold start, idle-stop operation, Bluetooth pairing, hazard switch, USB charging and instrument warnings. Confirm that the chassis and engine numbers on the invoice match the motorcycle. Check that the owner’s manual, warranty booklet, toolkit, spare key and delivery documents are present.

For the Pulsar, ask the dealer to state the warranty and service schedule in writing because the cited product material does not provide those details. Keep the first service and tyre-pressure checks on schedule; neglect can erase any theoretical mileage advantage.

On published performance, the Bajaj Pulsar N125 wins: its quoted power and torque are higher, and Bajaj positions it as the livelier motorcycle. On commuter equipment and published economy messaging, the Hero Super Splendor XTEC 2.0 has the stronger case, with i3S, ISG, hazard lights, connected functions, a larger tank and Hero’s 72–75 kmpl claims.
Use the specifications as a shortlist, then decide with the exact variant, local on-road quote and your own test-ride impressions. The evidence supports two different strengths rather than a single all-purpose winner.
