There is no single winner for every Indian rider. On published specifications, the Bajaj Pulsar 220F delivers substantially more displacement, power and torque. The Suzuki Gixxer SF is lighter in comparison listings and has higher reported fuel economy. Choose the Pulsar if stronger engine output is your priority; choose the Gixxer SF if lower listed weight, a fully faired design and the reported economy advantage matter more.
Prices depend on city, variant and dealer charges, so compare like-for-like on-road quotations and ride both motorcycles before paying a booking amount.

The short answer: Pulsar 220F for output, Gixxer SF for lightness and reported economy
The Bajaj Pulsar 220F and Suzuki Gixxer SF occupy a similar price band in India, but they take different approaches. Bajaj uses a larger 220 cc oil-cooled, twin-spark fuel-injected engine, while Suzuki uses a 155 cm³ air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine. That difference is reflected in their official output figures: the Pulsar is rated at 20.9 PS and 18.55 Nm, compared with 13.6 PS and 13.8 Nm for the Gixxer SF.
The weight and economy picture goes the other way. ZigWheels lists the Gixxer SF at 148 kg and the Pulsar 220F at 160 kg. Autocar India’s user-reported figures show 45.03 kmpl for the Gixxer SF and 40.46 kmpl for the Pulsar; ZigWheels lists 45 kmpl for the Gixxer. Those are third-party or user-reported numbers, not controlled tests or guarantees.

For a buyer, “better” therefore depends on the job. More engine capacity and stated output favour the Pulsar. Easier low-speed handling for some riders, lower listed mass and the higher reported fuel-economy figure favour the Gixxer SF. Neither specification sheet can establish comfort, highway stability, reliability, maintenance cost or service quality, so those questions require a local inspection and a test ride.

Engine performance: where the Pulsar has the paper advantage
Pulsar 220F output
Bajaj lists the Pulsar 220F’s engine as a 220 cc, oil-cooled, twin-spark, fuel-injected unit. Its official peak figures are 15.37 kW, equivalent to 20.9 PS, at 8,500 rpm and 18.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm. These are manufacturer claims, not an independent dynamometer result.

Gixxer SF output
Suzuki describes the Gixxer SF’s engine as a 155 cm³, air-cooled, fuel-injected single. Its FAQ lists 13.6 PS at 8,000 rpm and 13.8 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The smaller engine can still suit commuting and riders who prefer a lighter motorcycle, but its official output is below the Pulsar’s on both power and torque.
Do not use the displacement difference alone to predict smoothness, vibration, gearing or real-world speed. Those characteristics depend on the complete powertrain, gearing, rider load, road gradient and condition of the motorcycle. A dealer ride on your normal route is the appropriate check.
Weight and fuel economy: the Gixxer SF’s measurable advantages
Listed mass
ZigWheels lists the Gixxer SF at 148 kg and the Pulsar 220F at 160 kg, a 12 kg difference in that comparison. Lower listed mass may make a motorcycle easier to move off the stand, push into a parking slot or manage at walking pace, especially for a shorter or less experienced rider. It does not prove that the Gixxer handles better in every corner or that every rider will feel the difference equally.

Reported mileage
Autocar India’s comparison lists user-reported mileage of 40.46 kmpl for the Pulsar 220F and 45.03 kmpl for the Gixxer SF. ZigWheels reports 45 kmpl for the Gixxer SF. These figures are useful as a directional comparison, but they are not laboratory measurements, a national survey or a promise from either manufacturer.
Your result will vary with traffic, tyre pressure, maintenance, fuel quality, riding speed, payload, weather and how often the engine is allowed to idle. If fuel cost is important, record your own consumption over several refills after the test ride rather than budgeting from a single online number.
Price in India: compare the same city and variant
Published prices are not directly interchangeable because the sources use different locations and, in one case, a comparison site’s rounded figures. Bajaj’s current product page shows a Delhi ex-showroom starting price of ₹1,35,582 for the Pulsar 220F. Suzuki’s East Delhi price page lists Gixxer SF/Gixxer choices from ₹1,37,221 to ₹1,41,190. ZigWheels’ comparison, updated 1 October 2026, reports ₹1.35 lakh for the Pulsar 220F and ₹1.43 lakh for the Gixxer SF.

|---|---|---|---|
| Bajaj current product page | ₹1,35,582 | Delhi ex-showroom starting price. | |
| Suzuki East Delhi price page | ₹1,37,221–₹1,41,190 | East Delhi ex-showroom range for Gixxer SF/Gixxer choices. | |
| ZigWheels comparison, updated 1 October 2026 | ₹1.35 lakh | ₹1.43 lakh | Rounded comparison figures; location and variant assumptions should be checked. |
The Bajaj product page’s current figure is higher than the ₹1.28 lakh introductory India price announced in Bajaj’s 18 December 2025 launch release for the updated 2026 model. The launch price was introductory; it should not replace the live product-page price when you calculate a purchase budget. You can read the release at Bajaj’s 18 December 2025 announcement.

All of these are ex-showroom references. Registration, road tax, insurance, handling charges, accessories, financing and dealer offers can change the on-road total. Design, ergonomics and everyday use
Pulsar 220F: semi-faired touring-oriented identity
Bajaj calls the Pulsar 220F a semi-faired motorcycle and lists a projector headlamp, a connected digital console, navigation and five-step adjustable Nitrox suspension. The current product page also lists Bluetooth connectivity, a 15-litre fuel tank and single-channel ABS. These features describe equipment; they do not by themselves establish ride comfort or long-distance stability.
The semi-faired layout exposes more of the motorcycle than a full fairing and may appeal to riders who want the established Pulsar 220 silhouette. Check the wind protection at your normal cruising speed, the readability of the console in sunlight and the effort required to adjust the suspension before deciding that the equipment suits you.
Gixxer SF: fully faired sports styling
Suzuki identifies the Gixxer SF as its fully faired sports motorcycle, in contrast with the naked Gixxer. The official page specifies clip-on handlebars and a Bluetooth-enabled digital console. A fully faired body gives the motorcycle a different visual and aerodynamic package, while clip-ons create a distinct hand and torso relationship compared with a conventional handlebar.

Electronic and convenience features
- The Pulsar 220F product page lists Bluetooth connectivity, a connected digital console and navigation.
- The Gixxer SF product page identifies a Bluetooth-enabled digital console.
- Feature availability can vary by exact current variant, so ask the dealer to demonstrate pairing, navigation prompts and phone-call controls rather than relying on a model-family description.
Lighting and suspension
Bajaj lists a projector headlamp and five-step adjustable Nitrox suspension for the Pulsar 220F. Bajaj’s 18 December 2025 release for the 2026 model also announced refreshed graphics, four colour options and LED turn indicators. Confirm that the motorcycle in the showroom carries the same model-year equipment and colour set described in the current listing.
Braking and ABS
Both comparison listings report front and rear disc brakes and single-channel ABS for the two motorcycles. Treat this as comparison-source information, not a blanket guarantee for every production year or trim. Read the specification sheet on the purchase invoice, inspect the ABS indicator during the ignition check and ask which wheel the system controls.
Which motorcycle suits which rider?
Choose the Pulsar 220F when output is your first priority
- You want the larger 220 cc engine and the higher official power and torque figures.
- You regularly carry a passenger or luggage and value a larger published torque reserve, while recognising that actual performance depends on load and conditions.
- You want the equipment listed by Bajaj, including a 15-litre tank, projector headlamp, navigation-capable connected console and adjustable Nitrox suspension.
- You prefer the Pulsar’s semi-faired design after sitting on it and checking wind protection for your routes.
Choose the Gixxer SF when mass, economy and full fairing matter more
- You place a high value on the lower 148 kg listed weight in the ZigWheels comparison.
- You prefer the fully faired appearance and the clip-on handlebar layout after a proper riding-position check.
- You are planning for fuel economy and understand that the 45.03 kmpl Autocar user figure and 45 kmpl ZigWheels figure are not guarantees.
- You find the Suzuki’s price and equipment package more attractive in your city’s written on-road quotation.
When neither specification advantage settles it
If both motorcycles meet your power and budget requirements, prioritise the one that fits your body, route and dealer support. A 20-minute ride in traffic can reveal steering effort, clutch feel, heat management, brake response and posture issues that a specification table cannot. Ride the same roads, at similar times, with similar fuel levels and without changing your riding style between bikes.
A practical buying process
- Fix the comparison. Write down the exact model year, colour, variant and accessories for each motorcycle. Avoid comparing a base motorcycle with a dealer-equipped example.
- Get matching quotations. Request itemised ex-showroom, registration, insurance, taxes, handling fees, accessories and financing costs from dealers in the same city. Use the Bajaj Delhi and Suzuki East Delhi figures only as location-specific references, not as universal on-road prices.
- Inspect the equipment. Confirm the engine specification, ABS type, lighting, console functions, Bluetooth operation, suspension adjustability and included warranty documents on the physical motorcycle.
- Set up both test rides. Use the same route with a mix of low-speed turns, broken surfaces, open road and stop-start traffic. Note reach to the ground, steering lock, clutch weight, braking confidence and how naturally you can see the instruments.
- Check practical fit. Try your normal helmet, jacket, backpack or passenger arrangement. Verify mirror adjustment, pillion space, luggage options and parking clearance without assuming that a brochure description answers these questions.
- Estimate running cost conservatively. Use your own observed fuel consumption after purchase, and ask the dealer for the scheduled service intervals and consumable prices. Do not infer reliability or maintenance cost from engine size or brand reputation.
- Recheck the final invoice. Make sure the quoted variant, colour, model year, ABS equipment and promised accessories are written down before payment. Confirm registration and insurance details before accepting delivery.
What the available evidence cannot establish
The published specifications and comparison listings do not establish a controlled acceleration test, braking-distance test, highway stability result, vibration comparison, long-term reliability record, resale value, service quality or total maintenance cost. They also do not verify current dealer stock. Those factors can vary by motorcycle condition, rider, city and dealer, so present them as questions to investigate rather than assumed advantages.
There is also no single independent market statistic here that can represent nationwide owner mileage. The quoted economy numbers should therefore be used to set expectations, not to promise a monthly fuel bill. A tyre-pressure check, correct break-in and consistent refuelling method will make your own later calculation more useful than an online headline.
Final decision
Pick the Bajaj Pulsar 220F if its 220 cc engine, 20.9 PS, 18.55 Nm and listed equipment match your priorities and the test ride feels natural. Pick the Suzuki Gixxer SF if its 148 kg listed weight, fully faired design, clip-on ergonomics and higher reported mileage fit your use better. The fairest answer to “which is better?” is conditional: compare the exact local variants, verify safety equipment, obtain same-city on-road prices and let the test ride decide the tie.
