Choose the Pulsar 220F if you want a semi-faired sport-bike look, a lower quoted Bajaj price, a larger 15-litre tank and an engine that makes its strongest numbers higher in the rev range. Choose the Hunter 350 if you prefer a retro roadster, substantially more torque at everyday engine speeds, and the revised suspension, seat and equipment described for the 2025 update.
Neither is an objective winner for every rider. The Pulsar is the sharper value-and-style choice on the available price evidence; the Hunter is the more torque-focused and roadster-oriented choice. Final cost depends on your city, variant, insurance and registration, so compare current local quotations rather than relying on a national headline price.

The short answer: decide by riding character, not peak power
On paper, both motorcycles sit near the 20-horsepower class, but their outputs arrive differently. Bajaj’s current Pulsar 220F specification lists 20.9 PS at 8,500 rpm and 18.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Royal Enfield’s 2025 Hunter 350 technical specification lists 20.2 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The Hunter therefore has a clearly higher quoted peak-torque figure, and it reaches that figure 3,000 rpm earlier. That difference is more meaningful to normal traffic riding than the small gap between the two headline power numbers.
The Pulsar’s semi-faired bodywork, high-revving 220 cc twin-spark engine and currently visible Delhi price of ₹1,35,582 ex-showroom make it attractive to a buyer prioritising sporty appearance and purchase value. The Hunter’s 349 cc single-cylinder engine, retro proportions, lower-rpm torque and 2025 equipment updates make it attractive to a buyer who wants a relaxed roadster feel and the ability to pull strongly without revving hard.

Power units are not identical: Bajaj uses PS and Royal Enfield uses bhp. They are close enough to describe both as being around 20 horsepower, but converting them and declaring an exact tie would imply precision the manufacturers’ different presentations do not support.
Price: compare the same city, variant and date
Price is where a simple “which is cheaper?” answer becomes misleading. Bajaj’s current Pulsar 220F product page displays ₹1,35,582 ex-showroom Delhi. Bajaj’s December 18, 2025 announcement for the 2026 model quoted a ₹1.28 lakh launch price in India. The same product page also shows an older or different ₹1,28,490 figure in its FAQ. Those numbers are not interchangeable: one is a current visible Delhi price, one is a dated launch figure, and one is an inconsistent FAQ entry.
A third-party ZigWheels comparison lists the Pulsar at ₹1.36 lakh and the Hunter 350 at ₹1.38 lakh for base variants. That comparison is useful for understanding the close positioning, but it is not a substitute for a dealer quotation. Royal Enfield’s current official price was not verified in the cited material, so do not present ₹1.38 lakh as a universal or current all-India Hunter price.

Before booking, request an itemised on-road quote showing ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and any handling or documentation charges. Ask the dealer to identify the model year and exact variant on the quotation. A small ex-showroom difference can disappear once insurance and registration are added, while a different city can change the final amount substantially.
Engine and performance: torque delivery matters more than the badge
Pulsar 220F: higher-rpm sport-bike character
The Pulsar uses a 220 cc twin-spark, fuel-injected, oil-cooled engine. Bajaj lists 20.9 PS at 8,500 rpm and 18.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Those rpm points indicate where the engine produces its maximum figures; they are not promises that the motorcycle is weak below them or that every ride requires reaching them. They do, however, describe an engine tuned to make its strongest performance higher in the rev range than the Hunter’s peak torque point.

For a rider who enjoys building revs, the semi-faired body and sport-bike identity reinforce that character. The engine’s 20.9 PS figure is the current manufacturer number; some older comparison pages show 20.4 PS, so use the current Bajaj listing when discussing the present motorcycle. Bajaj’s December 2025 announcement also identifies the 220 cc Twin Spark DTS-i fuel-injected, oil-cooled engine and repeats the 20.9 PS output for the 2026 model.
Hunter 350: stronger low-rpm pull
The Hunter uses Royal Enfield’s 349 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-oil-cooled engine. Its 2025 technical specification lists 20.2 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm, with a 72 mm bore, 85.8 mm stroke and 9.5:1 compression ratio. The 27 Nm figure is 8.45 Nm higher than the Pulsar’s listed peak torque, and it arrives at a much lower engine speed.
That specification points to a roadster-style response: the Hunter should require fewer revs to access its strongest quoted pulling force. It does not prove that the Hunter is faster in every acceleration test, nor does it replace an instrumented comparison. Gear ratios, throttle calibration, rider weight, road gradient and launch technique all affect measured acceleration. The useful conclusion is narrower: the Hunter has the stronger manufacturer-quoted torque reserve at everyday rpm.
How to read the power figures
- Peak power is a maximum output at a stated rpm, not a complete description of acceleration.
- Peak torque is also a maximum at a stated rpm; the torque curve between idle and the peak is not supplied here.
- PS and bhp are different units. Saying that both bikes make “the same power” would hide the unit and measurement distinction.
- Third-party figures can be older than the current model. Use Bajaj’s 20.9 PS figure rather than the 20.4 PS shown on some comparison pages.
Mileage: useful as a reference, not a controlled verdict
Autocar India’s comparison page displays user-reported mileage of 40.46 kmpl for the Pulsar 220F and 34.61 kmpl for the Hunter 350. These are platform-reported figures, not results from a named laboratory or a controlled back-to-back test. User mileage changes with traffic, speed, tyre pressure, maintenance, fuel quality, rider weight and how often the engine is revved.
The same Autocar comparison page lists 36.2 kmpl as the Hunter’s official fuel-economy figure, but that is a secondary reproduction and was not verified against an official Royal Enfield fuel-economy source in the cited material. Other comparison pages publish different estimates or omit a Pulsar figure altogether. Treat the 40.46 and 34.61 kmpl values as a directional platform sample rather than a promise for your commute.

If fuel cost is decisive, record your own consumption after the first few tanks: fill to the same level, reset the trip meter, note litres added at the next fill and divide kilometres by litres. Compare both motorcycles over similar routes and traffic conditions. A single owner’s number cannot establish a universal winner.
Weight, design and everyday manoeuvring
Different visual identities
The Pulsar 220F has Bajaj’s semi-faired sports-bike design. Its fairing gives the motorcycle a more purposeful, forward-leaning visual identity and distinguishes it from a naked roadster. Bajaj describes the model as an iconic sports-bike design. The Hunter 350 uses retro roadster styling and compact proportions. Neither design is objectively better: the choice depends on whether you want a sporty silhouette or a classic, upright-looking motorcycle.
Published kerb weights
ZigWheels lists 160 kg for the Pulsar and 177 kg for the Hunter, a 17 kg difference. These are third-party comparison values, so confirm the exact model-year and variant before treating them as purchase specifications. If the figures apply to the motorcycles you are considering, the lighter Pulsar should be easier to push into a parking slot, lift off the side stand and turn around in a tight space. Actual low-speed confidence also depends on seat height, handlebar leverage, steering geometry and where the mass is carried.
The heavier Hunter may feel more substantial at a standstill, but weight alone does not determine comfort or stability. Ask a passenger to sit behind you during a test ride and try a U-turn, a narrow ramp and a stop-start street. Those manoeuvres expose differences that a specification sheet cannot.
Equipment and safety differences
Pulsar 220F equipment
Bajaj’s current product page lists a digital console with Bluetooth connectivity and a 15-litre fuel tank. The December 18, 2025 launch announcement for the 2026 Pulsar 220F highlights refreshed graphics, LED turn indicators and four colour names: Black Cherry Red, Black Ink Blue, Black Copper Beige and Green Light Copper. The current product page separately shows Black Gold, Black Cherry Red, Black Ink Blue and Black Copper Beige, so verify the colour list against the exact model-year listing at the time you buy.

The launch announcement states: “Equipped with front and rear disc brakes with Single-Channel ABS.” That is a manufacturer description of the announced equipment, not an independent braking test. Confirm the feature on the motorcycle and invoice you receive, especially if stock from more than one model year is available.
Hunter 350 2025 update
Royal Enfield’s 2025 Hunter material describes revised suspension and a newly cushioned seat. It also lists Tripper navigation, Type-C charging and a slip-assist clutch. These are manufacturer-described features for the 2025 update covered by the technical material. Equipment can vary by market and variant, so ask the dealer which of these items is fitted to the exact motorcycle being quoted.
A slip-assist clutch can reduce clutch effort and help manage rear-wheel lock during aggressive downshifts, but it does not remove the need for correct technique. Tripper navigation and Type-C charging are convenience features; check whether the navigation hardware, phone pairing and charging port location suit your daily use. Revised suspension and seat cushioning may improve comfort, but only your own body position and road conditions can determine whether the Hunter feels better.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Comfort and ergonomics: a test ride is essential
Published equipment cannot answer every comfort question. Riders differ in inseam, torso length, shoulder width and preferred wrist angle. A semi-faired Pulsar may appeal to someone who likes a sportier cockpit, while the Hunter’s roadster format may appeal to someone who prefers a more upright visual and seating concept. No seat-height measurements or controlled comfort assessment are published for these motorcycles in the cited specifications, so do not turn styling descriptions into a universal ergonomic verdict.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Wear the shoes and riding gear you normally use.
- Set both feet down at a stop and check whether you can move the motorcycle backward without strain.
- Ride over broken pavement, speed humps and a smooth open stretch.
- Hold a steady cruising speed, then repeat stop-start traffic and a tight U-turn.
- Ask a regular passenger to assess seat space, grab points and the effect of bumps.
- After at least 20 to 30 minutes, note wrist, knee, hip and lower-back pressure rather than judging only the first impression.
For the Hunter, pay particular attention to whether the updated seat cushioning and suspension suit your weight and route. For the Pulsar, check your view through the console, reach to the controls and whether the fairing directs wind where you expect. These checks are more reliable than assuming one model is comfortable for every rider.

Ownership, service and resale: what you still need to verify locally
No independent figure in the cited material establishes total ownership cost, routine maintenance cost, reliability, service-network quality, warranty terms, insurance cost or resale value for either motorcycle. Brand reputation is not a substitute for a current local quote. Do not assume that the motorcycle with the lower purchase price will remain cheaper over several years.
Ask each dealer for the scheduled-service interval and price, consumables included in each service, warranty duration and exclusions, roadside-assistance terms, insurance options and the price of common wear parts. Confirm the nearest authorised workshop and typical appointment lead time. If resale matters, ask local owners and dealers for recent transaction examples rather than relying on generic internet ratings. A platform rating or survey sample is not representative proof of objective superiority.
Which motorcycle suits each type of buyer?
Choose the Pulsar 220F when these priorities lead
- You want semi-faired sports-bike styling rather than a retro roadster.
- You prefer the current Bajaj price evidence, subject to your city and final on-road quote.
- A 15-litre stated fuel tank is useful for your riding pattern.
- You value the lower 160 kg kerb-weight figure listed by ZigWheels, after confirming it applies to your variant.
- You enjoy an engine whose quoted peak power and torque occur at 8,500 and 7,000 rpm.
- Bluetooth-enabled digital instrumentation and LED indicators on the announced 2026 model matter to you.
Choose the Hunter 350 when these priorities lead
- You want retro roadster styling and compact proportions.
- You prefer 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm for stronger quoted low-rev torque.
- You value the 2025 update’s revised suspension and newly cushioned seat, subject to a test ride.
- Tripper navigation, Type-C charging and a slip-assist clutch are useful to your routine.
- You accept the higher 177 kg kerb-weight figure listed by ZigWheels after confirming the exact variant.
- Your local Hunter quotation is competitive once registration, insurance and accessories are included.
When the answer is still unclear
If both bikes remain close after a test ride, rank your priorities in writing: purchase price, low-rpm response, traffic manoeuvrability, passenger comfort, equipment and fuel use. Give each item a score from one to five, then use actual dealer quotes rather than list prices. This prevents a colour or a single specification from deciding a purchase that will be used every day.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify the exact motorcycle. Record model year, trim, colour and whether the bike is current stock. The Pulsar’s published colour lists differ between the 2026 launch announcement and current product page.
- Get matching price sheets. Request ex-showroom and on-road totals from dealers in the same city, with registration, insurance, taxes and accessories shown separately.
- Verify equipment on the bike. Check the Pulsar’s LED indicators, digital/Bluetooth console, disc brakes and single-channel ABS. On the Hunter, confirm Tripper, Type-C charging, slip-assist clutch, suspension update and seat specification for your variant.
- Complete the same test route. Include traffic, an open section, poor pavement, a U-turn and a passenger ride if applicable.
- Check practical fit. Test parking, reversing, stand operation, luggage needs, fuel-stop frequency and phone-charging access.
- Price ownership before booking. Obtain service schedules, consumable prices, warranty terms, insurance and workshop details in writing.
- Keep the quotation. Ensure the booking receipt identifies the agreed variant, model year, colour, price basis and promised equipment.
Final buying guidance
The evidence supports a conditional recommendation. The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is the better match for a buyer seeking a sporty semi-faired identity, a lower quoted entry price, a 15-litre tank and a lighter published figure, provided the local quotation and ergonomics work for you. The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is the better match for a buyer seeking a retro roadster with clearly higher listed torque at lower rpm and the 2025 comfort and convenience updates.
Do not decide from peak horsepower or a single mileage number. Confirm the current variant, take both motorcycles over the same route, and compare itemised on-road and service quotations in your city. That process will produce a more reliable answer than declaring one model universally better.
