Bajaj Pulsar 180 vs Keeway SR125: Which Bike Fits Your Riding?

The Pulsar 180 brings far more published power and advertised ABS, while the lighter SR125 offers retro styling, a 780 mm seat and a small owner-reported mileage edge. Compare current local quotes and test ride both before buying.

Choose the Bajaj Pulsar 180 if you want substantially higher engine output, dual-disc hardware with advertised ABS, and a sportier digital feature set. Choose the Keeway SR125 if low weight, retro styling, a lower seat, and a small owner-reported mileage advantage matter more. Neither is universally better. Your decision should combine the intended use with a current local on-road quote, a test ride, and confirmation that parts and service are available where you live.

The figures below refer to the current model listings available in 2026. Manufacturer specifications, BikeWale owner reports, and editorial interpretation are identified separately so that a claimed specification is not mistaken for a measured result.

Quick answer: which is better?

The Pulsar 180 is the stronger choice for riders who regularly carry a passenger, use faster roads, or want more performance headroom. Its published displacement, power and torque are far above the SR125’s. It also has a larger kerb-weight figure and a more equipment-heavy, sporty presentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The SR125 makes more sense for urban riders who value an easy-to-move motorcycle, a 780 mm seat, classic styling and a simple five-speed package. BikeWale’s owner-reported mileage figure is slightly higher for the Keeway, but that is not a controlled fuel-economy test or a guarantee for your route. A test ride is essential before treating the 36 kg weight difference as a comfort or handling verdict.

Engine performance and everyday pace

Why the Pulsar 180 feels like the performance option on paper

The Pulsar’s 178.61 cc air-cooled DTSi single is listed at 17 PS and 15 Nm. That is a materially higher output envelope than the SR125’s 125 cc engine, rated at 9.7 HP and 8.2 Nm. The difference matters when accelerating onto a faster road, climbing with a passenger, or maintaining speed against wind and gradients.

Those are manufacturer ratings at specified engine speeds, not an acceleration test. They cannot tell you whether the clutch take-up, gearing, vibration or throttle response will suit you. During a ride, check how easily each bike pulls away in the gear you normally use, how much downshifting a hill requires, and whether the riding position keeps you relaxed at your normal cruising speed.

What the SR125’s smaller engine is suited to

The SR125 is built around a simpler 125 cc single-cylinder layout, five-speed gearbox and chain drive. Its lower output can be entirely adequate for stop-start city trips, short commutes and riders who prefer a gentler response. If your routes rarely include high-speed traffic or two-up gradients, the additional output of the Pulsar may be unused rather than valuable.

Keeway’s international product page lists a 90 km/h top speed. That is a manufacturer-listed specification, not an independently measured result, and it should not be used as a promise of cruising performance in every condition. The international page is not an India price source.

Weight, seat reach and low-speed manoeuvring

At 120 kg, the SR125 is listed 36 kg lighter than the Pulsar’s 156 kg kerb figure. A lighter motorcycle generally requires less effort to push out of a parking space, turn around in a narrow lane or catch during a slow-foot-down moment. That is a practical advantage for shorter urban trips, crowded parking areas and riders who are still building confidence.

Weight alone does not prove that one chassis handles better, rides more comfortably or feels more stable. Centre of gravity, handlebar leverage, suspension setup, tyre choice and your own body position all affect the result. Test both motorcycles at walking pace, perform a full-lock turn, reverse them into a space and lift them from the side stand before deciding.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keeway lists a 780 mm seat height. Bajaj’s current Pulsar specification does not state a seat-height figure, so do not assume which bike will let you place both feet more securely. Sit in your normal riding shoes, check knee bend and make sure you can reach the ground without sliding forward on the seat.

Brakes and safety equipment

Bajaj’s current product material advertises dual-disc brakes with ABS; the specification listing gives a 280 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc. Keeway’s India page specifies a 300 mm front disc, a 210 mm rear disc and CBS. These are different safety systems and equipment descriptions, not a measured ranking of stopping distance.

ABS helps manage wheel lock under hard braking, while CBS links braking force between the controls. Their effectiveness depends on calibration, tyres, road surface and rider input. Confirm that the motorcycle you are actually buying has the advertised system, because equipment can vary by market, model year or variant. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the warning lights and explain the service procedure for the braking system.

Styling, controls and practical equipment

Pulsar 180: sporty presentation

The current Pulsar is presented as a sporty motorcycle with a digital monochrome LCD speedometer, Bluetooth connectivity, USB-A provision and LED lighting, according to Bajaj’s product material. Those features can be useful if you want at-a-glance information and phone connectivity, but verify exactly what the console displays, how pairing works and whether the USB socket is protected from weather on your chosen variant.

SR125: retro design and a simpler brief

Keeway positions the SR125 as a retro-styled motorcycle with spoke wheels and a simple feature set. The classic design is a matter of taste rather than an objective advantage. Spoke wheels may appeal visually and can suit the bike’s period-inspired character; ask the service centre about spoke inspection and wheel maintenance for your roads.

Keeway’s India page lists optional accessories including leg guards, a seat cover, saree guard, tank cover and grab handles. The listing confirms that these accessories are offered for the SR125; it does not establish stock at a particular retailer or prove fitment for every model year. If you add a seat cover, have the dealer confirm compatibility with your exact motorcycle before paying.

Fuel economy and tank size

BikeWale reports owner-reported mileage of 44.5 kmpl for the Pulsar 180 and 47 kmpl for the SR125. The SR125 therefore has a small reported advantage in that comparison, but the figures are not from a controlled back-to-back test. Traffic, tyre pressure, rider mass, service condition, fuel quality, weather and riding style can change your result substantially.

The Pulsar carries 15 litres and the SR125 14.5 litres according to the manufacturers. Because capacity and actual economy vary independently, tank size cannot be converted into a guaranteed riding range. To establish your own consumption, fill the tank to the same level, reset the trip meter, ride through a normal route and calculate fuel used over several refills. Do not use a single short trip as a definitive comparison.

Price: why you need a local written quote

Price is unusually easy to misread in this comparison. Bajaj’s current product page shows two different Delhi ex-showroom amounts—₹1,22,490 near the heading and ₹1,11,669 in a later ex-showroom section. That unresolved page inconsistency means neither figure should be presented as your purchase price without dealer confirmation.

Keeway India’s SR125 page lists ₹1,29,000 ex-showroom. BikeWale’s comparison page gives on-road estimates of ₹1,44,680 for the Pulsar 180 and ₹1,47,845 for the SR125. Those third-party figures depend on location and date and are not universal quotes. They also should not be compared directly with an ex-showroom amount.

  1. Ask an authorised dealer for a dated, written on-road quotation for the exact variant.
  2. Require separate lines for ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, handling or other fees, accessories and discounts.
  3. Confirm the city and registration state; changing locality can alter the total substantially.
  4. Check whether the quoted motorcycle is the current model year and whether the warranty terms are included.
  5. Compare the final totals, not a headline price copied from a comparison page.

Which bike suits each type of rider?

Choose the Pulsar 180 when output is your priority

  • You frequently ride on faster highways or open two-lane roads.
  • You often carry a passenger or luggage and want more published torque reserve.
  • You prefer a sporty appearance, digital console and advertised Bluetooth and LED equipment.
  • You specifically want to evaluate a motorcycle advertised with ABS and dual discs.

These points describe a better match for your priorities, not proof of superior acceleration, comfort, braking or reliability. Confirm the ride and equipment on the exact motorcycle before purchase.

Choose the SR125 when lightness and simplicity matter

  • Your riding is mainly urban, with frequent parking, U-turns and narrow lanes.
  • A 780 mm seat and a 120 kg listed weight make you more comfortable during a showroom manoeuvre.
  • You prefer retro styling, spoke wheels and a less busy equipment package.
  • The small owner-reported mileage edge is more important to you than maximum output.

Again, a lighter specification does not guarantee better ride quality. Use the test ride to check suspension response, reach to the controls, mirror visibility and passenger space.

Test-ride checklist before you pay

  1. Fit: Sit for at least several minutes with both feet, then check reach to the clutch, brake and gear lever.
  2. Low-speed control: Perform slow turns and a controlled stop-start sequence. Notice steering effort and whether the bike feels manageable when tilted.
  3. Engine response: Use the gears you would normally select in traffic. Look for smooth take-up and a response you can control, rather than chasing a top-speed number.
  4. Braking: Make progressive stops in a safe, legal area. Check lever travel and confidence; do not infer laboratory stopping distances.
  5. Ergonomics: Ride over your usual type of road and assess wrist, knee, hip and back position.
  6. Passenger practicality: If you regularly ride two-up, bring the passenger who will actually use the bike and check footpeg and grab-handle comfort.
  7. Visibility and controls: Confirm the mirrors, instrument readability in sunlight, switchgear and USB access.
  8. After-sales questions: Ask who services the motorcycle locally, how parts are ordered, what the warranty covers and how often scheduled maintenance is required.

Model-year and source cautions

Bajaj’s current page identifies a 2026 Pulsar 180 listing, while a separate Bajaj archive labels an earlier Pulsar 180 version as discontinued. Do not use the archive to describe the current motorcycle or assume that an older used-bike specification matches the new listing. The archive is available at Bajaj’s discontinued-bike page.

Manufacturer pages are the appropriate source for claimed specifications and equipment. BikeWale’s page is useful for a market comparison and owner-reported mileage, but it is not a controlled comparative test. No cited evidence establishes a winner for reliability, resale value, service quality, comfort, handling or actual fuel consumption. Those decisions require local checks and your own ride.

A practical buying decision

Start by writing down your normal route, passenger frequency, parking conditions and budget ceiling. If the route demands more performance reserve, shortlist the Pulsar and verify its exact safety equipment. If most rides are short urban trips and moving a motorcycle easily is the deciding factor, shortlist the SR125 and confirm the local service network.

Then obtain both written on-road quotes on the same day, including equivalent insurance and registration assumptions. A small difference in a comparison site’s estimate can disappear when a dealer offer, state tax or insurance choice changes. Finally, test ride both in the clothing and footwear you normally use. The motorcycle that fits your reach, traffic pace and confidence is the better purchase for you, even when its headline specification is less dramatic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bajaj Pulsar 180 faster than the Keeway SR125?

The Pulsar has much higher manufacturer-published power and torque, so it has greater stated performance potential. No independent acceleration test or fair measured top-speed comparison is published here.

Which motorcycle is easier to move around a parking area?

The SR125 is listed at 120 kg, compared with 156 kg for the Pulsar 180. That specification suggests less pushing effort, but steering geometry and balance still need to be checked during a test ride.

Is the SR125 cheaper to own?

The available figures do not establish total ownership cost. Obtain local prices for fuel, insurance, scheduled service and parts before making a cost claim.

Can I calculate range from the fuel-tank capacities?

No. The tanks are similarly sized, but actual range depends on real fuel economy and riding conditions. Measure your own consumption over several refills if range is important.
