Bajaj Pulsar 150 vs Honda CB125 Hornet: Which Bike Fits Your Riding Priorities?

The Pulsar 150 offers larger displacement and higher listed output, while the lighter CB125 Hornet adds TFT connectivity and modern equipment. Compare matched trims, dated prices and real riding priorities before buying.

Short answer: Choose the Bajaj Pulsar 150 if you want the larger 149.50 cc engine, the higher manufacturer-listed peak output and a 15-litre tank. Choose the Honda CB125 Hornet if lower mass, a five-speed gearbox and modern equipment such as a 4.2-inch Bluetooth-ready TFT, USB Type-C and golden USD forks matter more. The figures below are specification and launch-price comparisons, not a back-to-back road test. Match the model year and trim, obtain same-city on-road quotes, and ride both before booking.

What the comparison actually covers

These are not two single, unchanging specifications. Bajaj’s current Pulsar 150 page and its 2026 brochure describe a 149.50 cc motorcycle sold in multiple trims, while Bajaj’s 24 August 2026 announcement describes an all-new Pulsar 150 with a different torque figure and an introductory Delhi price. Honda’s CB125 Hornet specifications come from the company’s 23 July 2025 launch release, with a limited-period introductory price announced for Gurugram on 1 August 2025. Treat those as dated reference points, not as today’s on-road quotations.

The current Pulsar 150 product page lists 149.50 cc, 10.3 kW (14 PS) at 8,500 rpm, a 15-litre fuel tank and twin gas-filled rear shocks. The 2026 Pulsar 150 brochure lists three trims—SD, SD UG and TD UG—with different brakes, suspension dimensions, tyres and kerb weights. Honda’s 23 July 2025 release lists the CB125 Hornet’s engine, equipment and claimed acceleration. Keeping these source versions separate prevents a brochure figure from being presented as a specification for every Pulsar 150 on sale.

Engine performance: where the Pulsar has the numerical advantage

On the listed figures, the Pulsar 150 has the performance-oriented brief. Its 149.50 cc engine is larger than the Hornet’s 123.94 cc unit, and the current Pulsar page and 2026 brochure both state 14 PS at 8,500 rpm. The brochure’s 13.25 Nm at 6,500 rpm is also higher than the Hornet’s 11.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. That gives the Bajaj more specification headroom for carrying a passenger, climbing with luggage or making a highway overtake, although a specification sheet cannot predict throttle response, gearing, refinement or heat management.

Honda quotes 8.2 kW at 7,500 rpm and 11.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm for the CB125 Hornet, and claims 0–60 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The 0–60 claim is Honda’s own test figure and should not be compared with an independently measured Pulsar time. The lower peak figures do not make the Hornet unsuitable for urban use; they indicate a smaller commuter engine intended to work with less mass.

Do not combine the brochure Pulsar torque with the separate all-new model announced on 24 August 2026. That announcement states 13.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm and an introductory ₹115,233 ex-showroom Delhi price. Ask the dealer for the exact variant code and VIN-year documentation so you know which engine calibration and equipment you are buying.

Weight, handling and everyday traffic

The Hornet’s stated 124 kg weight is 24 kg below the lightest 148 kg Pulsar brochure trim and 26 kg below the 150 kg TD UG. A lighter motorcycle generally demands less effort when reversing, filtering through a stationary queue or recovering from a slow-speed wobble, but rider height, handlebar position, steering geometry and tyre choice also affect confidence. The available sources do not provide a matched ride test or complete ergonomic dimensions, so do not infer seat comfort or reach solely from the names or styling.

  • Easy Installation: Direct replacement, this motorcycle digital speedometer is easy and quick to install.

For a rider who parks on a ramp, manoeuvres in a narrow apartment garage or frequently makes U-turns in congested lanes, the Hornet’s stated lower mass is a meaningful buying priority. The Pulsar’s extra mass can feel reassuring at speed, yet that is a ride impression to verify rather than a guaranteed benefit. Take both motorcycles through the same set of manoeuvres—walking pace, full-lock turns, a speed breaker and a short faster section—before deciding.

Brakes, suspension and road conditions

Honda’s launch specification is explicit: a front disc, rear drum and single-channel ABS. ABS helps prevent a locked front wheel during a hard stop on a slippery surface, but single-channel systems do not provide ABS control at the rear. Honda also lists golden USD front forks, a visible premium feature whose damping quality still needs to be assessed over broken tarmac.

Bajaj’s 2026 brochure confirms that the Pulsar 150’s three trims do not share identical brake hardware, suspension dimensions or tyres. The current product page lists twin gas-filled rear shocks, but it does not make that one setup representative of every brochure trim. Compare the exact SD, SD UG or TD UG equipment line by line at the dealership, including disc or drum configuration, ABS availability, tyre sizes and suspension travel. If your daily route includes potholes or an unpaved shoulder, the actual tyre and suspension specification matters more than the trim name.

Fuel capacity and the mileage question

The Pulsar’s 15-litre tank is an established figure on Bajaj’s current product page. Honda’s cited launch release does not state the CB125 Hornet tank capacity, so a direct range calculation would be speculative. Ask Honda for the current capacity and use the same fuel grade and route when estimating range.

A comparison page from ZigWheels, updated 9 September 2026, lists claimed mileage of 47.5 km/l for the Pulsar 150 and 48 km/l for the CB125 Hornet, along with approximate weights of 141 kg and 124 kg. Those are secondary-source comparison figures, not a controlled test conducted under identical traffic, speed, tyre-pressure and load conditions. They also do not align perfectly with the current official Pulsar weight and Honda’s launch output. Use them only as published claims, not as a promise of your personal consumption.

For a useful ownership estimate, record fuel bought and kilometres covered over at least three full tanks on each motorcycle, keeping route, rider, load, tyre pressures and riding style as similar as possible. Until such a matched test exists, mileage should not decide this comparison.

Equipment and connectivity

The CB125 Hornet’s equipment list is the clearest reason to choose it over the larger Pulsar. Honda lists a 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth and RoadSync compatibility, USB Type-C, all-LED lighting, golden USD forks and the braking package described above. Confirm which functions are enabled in the Indian variant you are offered, whether a phone app is required, and what navigation or call controls are supported before paying for accessories.

The Pulsar brochure shows equipment changes between SD, SD UG and TD UG. That means a headline such as “the Pulsar has” can be misleading unless it names the trim. Check the instrument cluster, lighting, switchgear, brake hardware and tyre specification on the physical motorcycle, then compare the written quotation with the brochure. If connectivity is essential, obtain a demonstration rather than assuming that a feature on one Pulsar variant appears on all three.

City commuting, pillion use and highway trips

Mostly solo city riding

The Hornet’s 124 kg stated weight and five-speed gearbox suit a rider who values easy low-speed control and modern information display. Its 123.94 cc engine should be judged on smoothness, clutch effort and gearing in your traffic, not on displacement alone. The Pulsar remains sensible for a commuter who wants stronger published output and prefers the larger tank, but its extra 24–26 kg should be acceptable during parking and U-turns.

Frequent pillion or luggage

The Pulsar’s larger engine and higher stated torque provide more numerical reserve for a passenger or loaded backpack. That does not establish a comfortable pillion seat: the cited material does not provide seat length, cushioning, grab-rail design or passenger footrest dimensions. Bring your regular passenger to the test ride, check knee angle and reach to the grab rail, and repeat a hill start with the normal load. The Hornet can still work for occasional two-up use, but evaluate whether acceleration and braking remain comfortable for your routes.

Open roads and occasional highway use

The Pulsar’s 14 PS and 15-litre tank make it the more obvious choice on paper for longer inter-city runs. The Hornet’s lower mass can make it less tiring in traffic, while its five-speed gearbox is a confirmed feature. Neither source provides cruising-speed vibration, wind protection, stopping-distance or passing-test data. A 20–30 minute ride that includes a faster road, an incline and a firm stop is more informative than a showroom impression.

Price and ownership costs: how to get a fair number

Bajaj announced ₹115,233 ex-showroom Delhi for the newly announced Pulsar 150 on 24 August 2026. Honda announced a limited-period introductory ₹112,000 ex-showroom Gurugram price on 1 August 2025. Because those figures use different cities, dates and offer terms, they are historical anchors rather than a current winner. The ZigWheels page updated 9 September 2026 places both motorcycles around ₹1.15 lakh, but that is a secondary estimate and may not reflect your exact trim.

  1. Ask each dealer for an itemised quotation in the same city and on the same day.
  2. Write down the exact model year, trim, colour and variant code.
  3. Separate ex-showroom price, registration or road tax, insurance, handling or logistics fees, accessories and optional extended warranty.
  4. Check whether a quoted introductory discount is still valid and whether it is conditional on finance or insurance purchase.
  5. Compare the final on-road total and the scheduled service requirements, not just the headline ex-showroom number.

Fuel, tyres, chain-and-sprocket wear, brake parts and insurance renewals will depend on annual kilometres, traffic and local labour rates. The supplied sources do not establish a matched maintenance-cost schedule, so request the manufacturer’s current service chart and parts prices from your local authorised outlet.

Which bike is better for your priority?

Your priority More logical starting point Why, and what to verify
Higher listed output and larger displacement Pulsar 150 149.50 cc and 14 PS are listed; confirm whether the motorcycle is a brochure trim or the separately announced 2026 model.
Lowest stated kerb weight CB125 Hornet Honda states 124 kg; test parking, U-turns and stop-start balance yourself.
Connected display and USB Type-C CB125 Hornet Honda lists a 4.2-inch TFT, Bluetooth/RoadSync compatibility and USB Type-C; verify local variant functionality.
Longer potential refuelling interval Pulsar 150 The current Bajaj page lists 15 litres; Honda’s cited launch release does not state tank capacity.
Two-up riding or luggage Pulsar 150 on paper Higher listed torque offers more numerical reserve; take your passenger on a test ride because seat ergonomics are not established here.
Exact brake and suspension preference Whichever matched trim passes inspection Pulsar equipment varies by trim; Hornet’s listed setup is front disc/rear drum with single-channel ABS and golden USD forks.
Lowest current purchase price Not determined from launch figures Get same-city, same-day itemised on-road quotes; the dated Delhi and Gurugram prices are not directly comparable.

Dealer and test-ride checklist

Use this checklist to prevent a specification mismatch:

  • Photograph the VIN plate and confirm the manufacturing month and model year.
  • For the Pulsar, identify SD, SD UG or TD UG and match brakes, tyres, suspension and kerb weight to the 2026 brochure.
  • For the new-announcement Pulsar, ask whether the quoted motorcycle is the model described in Bajaj’s 24 August 2026 release, including its 13.7 Nm torque claim.
  • For the Hornet, confirm the currently stocked variant, TFT functions, RoadSync compatibility, USB Type-C provision and ABS operation.
  • Check cold-start behaviour, clutch take-up, gear selection, steering lock, mirror visibility and instrument readability.
  • Ride the same route with a speed breaker, rough patch, full-lock turn, incline and emergency-style braking exercise in a safe, legal location.
  • Repeat the manoeuvres with your regular passenger if two-up use is important.
  • Request written warranty, service interval and roadside-assistance terms before signing.

Verdict

There is no universal winner. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is the stronger specification match for a rider who prioritises displacement, the manufacturer’s higher stated peak power, a 15-litre tank and extra reserve for passenger or highway work. The Honda CB125 Hornet is the better match for a rider who prioritises a 124 kg motorcycle, a five-speed gearbox and a clearly documented technology package with TFT connectivity, USB Type-C, LED lighting and USD forks.
