Choose the Pulsar 150 if you want a sportier-looking motorcycle, a broader choice of current variants and potentially more equipment. Choose the W175 if you prefer a lighter, retro-styled roadster and its classic riding character.
The sensible decision depends on the exact model year and trim, your local on-road quotations, braking equipment, dealer support and a test ride. Published power, torque and prices differ by year and source, so the figures below are labelled rather than blended into one misleading comparison.

What each motorcycle is designed to do
Pulsar 150: the sportier all-rounder
The Pulsar 150 is presented as a performance-oriented commuter. Its muscular tank, sharper visual treatment and multiple trim levels appeal to riders who want a more aggressive appearance than a traditional standard motorcycle. Bajaj’s 24 August 2026 announcement described a new-generation 149.5 cc engine and retained the brand’s performance-focused identity. Bajaj also states that more than 20 million Pulsar motorcycles have been sold across over 40 countries; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent sales audit.

The current product material shows why the exact variant matters. A single-disc model and a twin-disc model are not merely cosmetic choices: braking hardware, wheel equipment, seat height and kerb mass can change. The 2026 brochure lists front discs of 260 mm or 280 mm, a 130 mm rear drum or 230 mm rear disc, 795 mm or 805 mm seat heights and 148 kg or 150 kg kerb weights.
W175: a lighter retro roadster
The W175 takes a different route. Kawasaki gives it classic styling, a semi-double-cradle frame, a rounder roadster profile and spoke wheels on the 2023 specification page. The motorcycle is intended to deliver a simple, old-school visual and mechanical experience rather than the Pulsar’s sportier presentation. Its 135 kg curb mass is substantially lower than the published Pulsar range, which can be useful when manoeuvring in a parking area or at low speed.
The W175’s equipment is version-sensitive. Kawasaki identifies a 270 mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a rear drum, but it cautions through its model information that features can vary by W175 version. Confirm the exact motorcycle at the dealership rather than assuming every colour or model year has identical components.

Engine performance and the model-year figures you should trust
Why Pulsar numbers appear different
Bajaj’s current product page and 2026 brochure list 14 PS and 13.25 Nm at 6,500 rpm for the product and variants shown there. Separately, Bajaj Auto’s 24 August 2026 announcement gives the new-generation 149.5 cc engine 14 PS at 8,500 rpm and 13.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The torque values are therefore not interchangeable. Ask the seller which engine specification and model-year code applies to the bike in front of you, then compare that figure with the quotation and registration paperwork.
Why W175 numbers appear different
Kawasaki’s official 2023 specification page lists the 177 cc air-cooled single at 9.6 kW, equivalent to 13 PS, at 7,500 rpm and 13.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Kawasaki’s MY24 launch announcement instead states 13 PS at 7,000 rpm and 13.3 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The displacement is larger than the Pulsar’s stated 149.5 cc, but the published power figures do not show a decisive advantage. A larger capacity alone is not proof that the W175 will accelerate faster in every situation.
How to make a fair performance comparison
- Write down the model year, trim and engine output shown on each quotation.
- Compare power and torque together with kerb/curb mass, not displacement alone.
- Ask whether the displayed figure is a manufacturer rating, a brochure value or a launch-announcement value.
- Ride both motorcycles on the same route, including a hill or an open stretch if legally and safely possible.
- Pay attention to clutch take-up, low-speed smoothness, gear spacing and vibration; official specification sheets do not describe those sensations.
Brakes, ABS and equipment: the variant can change the decision
Pulsar 150 braking choices
The 2026 Pulsar brochure lists ABS for its brochure variants, but the hardware still varies. Depending on the version, the front disc is 260 mm or 280 mm and the rear brake is either a 130 mm drum or a 230 mm disc. A twin-disc trim therefore deserves a separate price and equipment check from a single-disc trim. Confirm whether the motorcycle you are buying has the larger front rotor, rear disc and the stated ABS configuration.

W175 braking layout
The W175’s listed arrangement is a 270 mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a rear drum. This is a straightforward setup, but it is not equivalent to every Pulsar configuration. Compare the exact braking systems rather than concluding that one model is automatically safer from a headline specification.

Other equipment to inspect in person
- Check the instrument console and warning lights with the ignition switched on.
- Verify wheel type, tyre size and the presence of any trim-specific features on the invoice.
- Inspect the brake-lever feel, pedal position and reach while wearing the gear you normally use.
- Ask the dealer to identify the ABS indicator and explain its normal self-check behaviour.
Size, weight and comfort for everyday riding
The Pulsar’s 15-litre tank is larger than the W175’s 12.0-litre capacity, which may reduce fuel stops on a long commute. Its published seat heights of 795 mm and 805 mm can suit different riders, but the taller variant may be less convenient for a shorter rider when stopping on uneven ground. The W175’s 790 mm seat is slightly lower than either listed Pulsar figure.
Weight is the clearest numerical difference: Bajaj lists 148 kg or 150 kg kerb mass by variant, while Kawasaki’s 2023 page lists 135 kg curb mass. The W175 may feel easier to push backward, turn around and balance at walking pace. That does not guarantee a better high-speed ride; wind, suspension setup, tyre choice and rider posture still require a test ride.

- Direct Replacement Installation: Designed as a replacement instrument cluster assembly. Connects to existing wiring configuration; verify connector type and model year before ordering.
Do not choose from seat height alone. Sit on each motorcycle with both feet positioned as you would at a junction, check whether the handlebar forces your wrists into an awkward angle, and make sure you can operate the clutch and front brake without stretching. Official dimensions cannot replace this fit check.
Styling and intended use
| Your priority | More natural match | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Sportier visual treatment and a muscular tank | Pulsar 150 | Its design language and variant range are oriented toward a more aggressive street-bike look. |
| Classic roadster appearance and spoke wheels | W175 | Kawasaki’s stated design direction is retro, with a semi-double-cradle frame and traditional styling cues. |
| Frequent low-speed manoeuvring | W175 may suit you | Its published 135 kg curb mass is lower than the Pulsar’s 148–150 kg range. |
| Maximum equipment choice | Pulsar 150 | The current material identifies single-disc and twin-disc variants with different brake and dimension specifications. |
These are selection tendencies, not promises about handling or comfort. Traffic, road surface, rider size and luggage can reverse a preference, so ride both before paying a deposit.
Price: compare the same basis, not isolated numbers
What the Pulsar figures mean
Bajaj’s product page displayed a Delhi ex-showroom starting figure of ₹1,28,650 when captured. Bajaj’s 24 August 2026 press announcement gave an introductory price of ₹1,15,233. Because those are different displayed or announced figures, they should not be treated as one current price. The product page directs shoppers to select a location for an on-road quotation.

What the W175 figures mean
India Kawasaki Motors’ December 2023 MY24 launch release listed ₹1,29,000 ex-showroom for the standard W175 and ₹1,31,000 for Metallic Ocean Blue. The same release identified historical MY23 prices of ₹1,22,000 and ₹1,24,000. These are launch-era prices, not verified current quotations. Current state-specific W175 pricing, stock and dealer availability need confirmation from a Kawasaki outlet.
A five-minute quotation checklist
- Request an itemised on-road quote for the exact city and registration state.
- Ensure both quotes use the same price basis: ex-showroom versus on-road.
- Match model year, colour and variant; do not compare a base Pulsar with a twin-disc Pulsar.
- Separate mandatory registration and insurance charges from optional accessories.
- Ask how long the quoted price is valid and whether stock is physically available.
Mileage and running-cost expectations
A surfaced ZigWheels comparison labels claimed mileage at 47.5 km/l for the Pulsar 150 and 45 km/l for the W175. The result does not establish a matched, controlled test method or a model year, so treat both numbers as estimates rather than guarantees. Traffic density, riding speed, tyre pressure, passenger load, fuel quality and maintenance can change actual consumption.
Use your own commute to estimate fuel cost. Record litres added and kilometres travelled over several tanks, then calculate kilometres divided by litres. Keep the comparison fair by using similar routes and riding conditions. Neither the cited manufacturer specifications nor the surfaced comparison establishes a complete owner-cost study, so do not assume one motorcycle will always be cheaper to run.

Dealer access can matter more than a small difference in a brochure figure. Before choosing, identify the nearest authorised outlet for each brand, ask whether the exact variant is in stock, and request the service-book schedule and parts lead-time information in writing. The available information does not establish a nationwide dealer-density advantage, service-cost study or independent reliability ranking for either motorcycle.
- Confirm the selling dealer’s ability to register the selected model in your state.
- Ask who will handle warranty claims and whether the displayed motorcycle is current-year stock.
- Inspect the vehicle identification number and manufacturing month before delivery.
- Check that the invoice names the promised brake, wheel and ABS configuration.
- Budget for protective equipment, registration, insurance and routine consumables separately from the showroom price.
Optional W175 engine guard
Kawasaki identifies an engine guard as an official W175 accessory. It can be relevant if you regularly ride on broken roads or want additional protection around the lower engine area. Availability and exact fitment for a particular model year or trim were not established, so ask the dealer to verify compatibility against the motorcycle’s VIN before ordering. Treat it as an optional accessory, not as evidence that the standard motorcycle is inadequately protected.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Pulsar 150 when
- You prefer a sportier appearance to a traditional retro roadster.
- You want to choose between single-disc and twin-disc versions and compare their equipment.
- A 15-litre tank is useful for your regular travel.
- You are comfortable with a 148–150 kg motorcycle and a possible 795 or 805 mm seat.
- The local Pulsar quotation, dealer support and selected brake configuration are better for your needs.
Choose the W175 when
- You specifically want classic styling, a semi-double-cradle frame and spoke wheels on the applicable version.
- A lower published curb mass of 135 kg makes daily handling more appealing.
- You prefer a 790 mm seat and a simple 177 cc, five-speed roadster layout.
- You accept a 12.0-litre tank, front single-channel ABS and rear drum arrangement.
- Your local Kawasaki dealer can supply the exact model year and provide satisfactory ownership support.
Walk away from both, for now, when
- The seller cannot identify the model year or variant.
- The quotation mixes ex-showroom and on-road amounts.
- The motorcycle fails your reach, balance or braking-confidence test ride.
- The promised equipment is missing from the invoice or physical vehicle.
Final buying process
- Shortlist the exact Pulsar trim and exact W175 version, including colour and model year.
- Collect written, itemised on-road quotations from local dealers on the same day.
- Verify engine power and torque figures against the relevant year-specific brochure or announcement.
- Inspect discs, drum, ABS indicators, wheels, seat height and kerb/curb mass for the selected trim.
- Take both motorcycles on comparable roads and assess low-speed balance, clutch, posture and braking feel.
- Calculate likely fuel use from your own route instead of treating claimed mileage as a guarantee.
- Confirm registration eligibility, warranty handling, stock date and accessory fitment before paying.
The better motorcycle is therefore the one whose design, dimensions, equipment and verified local price match your use. The Pulsar 150 offers the more configurable, sportier proposition; the W175 offers the lighter retro alternative. Model year and variant details decide the outcome more reliably than displacement or a single headline price.
