Bajaj Pulsar 125 vs Revolt RV1: Which Commuter Bike Fits You?

There is no single winner between the Bajaj Pulsar 125 and Revolt RV1. They solve the same commuting problem with different energy systems: the Pulsar is a petrol motorcycle, while the RV1 is an electric commuter with a removable battery. Choose the Pulsar 125 when petrol-station refueling, longer uninterrupted trips, or limited charging access matter most. Choose the RV1 when your daily route fits a conservative interpretation of its claimed range, you can charge at home or work, and you want electric operation with a published battery warranty.

The practical decision depends on your city’s on-road prices, daily distance, route speed, passenger load, local fuel and electricity rates, and access to service. Manufacturer pages listed the specifications in October 2026, with secondary figures clearly identified where relevant.

Quick verdict: which one should you buy?

Buy the Bajaj Pulsar 125 if you need the familiar flexibility of petrol: refueling takes minutes, range is replenished wherever a fuel station is available, and the 124.4 cc engine is suited to riders who do not want to plan around charging. It is also the safer choice if you park where a household socket is unavailable or your workday route can change without warning.

Buy the Revolt RV1 if most trips are predictable, you have dependable access to a socket, and a 70 km/h electric commuter is adequate for your roads. Revolt lists a removable battery, 100 km IDC range, 0–80% charging in 2 hours 15 minutes, and an eight-year/80,000 km battery warranty. IDC is a laboratory-style manufacturer test cycle, not a promise of the same distance in traffic, heat, hills, or with a passenger.

What the two motorcycles are

Bajaj Pulsar 125: a small-displacement petrol bike

Bajaj identifies the Pulsar 125 as a BS VI, four-stroke, two-valve, twin-spark petrol motorcycle. Its official product page lists a 124.4 cc engine, peak output of 8.68 kW (11.8 PS) at 8,500 rpm, and an 11.5-litre fuel tank. Those figures describe engine output and fuel capacity; they do not by themselves predict acceleration, fuel economy in your traffic, or total ownership cost.

The petrol format gives the Pulsar a simple operating routine: fill the tank at a station, then continue riding without waiting for a battery. That convenience is especially useful for riders who make irregular trips, travel outside cities, or cannot reserve a charging point.

Revolt RV1: an electric commuter

Revolt describes the RV1 as an electric commuter motorcycle with a removable battery. Its product page says the supplied portable charger plugs into a standard household socket, with no special installation required. The same page lists a 70 km/h top speed, 100 km IDC range, and 0–80% charging time of 2 hours 15 minutes.

A removable battery can make apartment or rented-home charging easier because you may be able to carry the pack to a socket. Check the battery’s actual weight, carrying route, building rules, and whether your parking area is secure before assuming this is convenient. The manufacturer’s socket statement is a product claim, not a guarantee that every building’s wiring or outlet is suitable.

Price: compare matching quotes, not headline numbers

Bajaj’s current product page labels ₹92,341 as the Pulsar 125 ex-showroom price for Delhi. Revolt’s RV1 page lists ₹99,999. Neither number is a complete purchase bill: on-road cost normally adds registration, insurance, taxes or fees that vary by state, and dealer-specific charges. Obtain written quotes for the same city, date, variant and insurance scope.

A separate ZigWheels comparison updated August 23, 2026 lists ₹90,518 for a Pulsar 125 base version and ₹99,999 for the RV1. Treat those as comparison-context figures, not a replacement for a current dealer quotation. Bajaj’s FAQ also displays a different price context, so avoid combining that figure with the product-page price without checking its date and trim at Bajaj’s Pulsar 125 FAQ.

Range, fuel economy and charging: the numbers need context

Why 100 km IDC is not the RV1’s guaranteed distance

Revolt’s 100 km figure is an IDC claim. Actual distance can be lower or higher depending on speed, stop-start traffic, gradients, temperature, tyre pressure, rider and passenger weight, and how much reserve you are comfortable carrying. Plan your regular trip using a buffer rather than treating 100 km as a daily target. For example, add enough reserve that an unexpected detour or a delayed charging opportunity does not leave you stranded; the appropriate margin is a personal safety decision, not a published test result.

How to interpret the Pulsar figure

ZigWheels reports 51.46 km/l as a claimed Pulsar comparison figure. It is not a guarantee for every rider or a controlled result directly comparable with the RV1’s IDC range. Real fuel use changes with traffic, throttle, maintenance, load and road speed. Use your own monthly kilometres and a local petrol price when estimating spend.

Charging routine versus petrol refueling

The RV1’s removable battery and household-socket charger can make overnight charging practical if the socket is near a secure parking area. Revolt states that no special installation is needed and that the portable charger plugs into the same type of standard socket used by ordinary appliances. Confirm outlet condition, earthing, extension-cord rules, weather protection and permission from your landlord or housing association.

The Pulsar’s tank can be refilled in minutes, but you remain exposed to local petrol prices and station availability. The RV1 avoids petrol stops for the energy you charge at home, yet charging takes scheduled time and depends on electricity access. Neither routine is universally cheaper without your tariff, mileage, charging losses, maintenance, financing and insurance assumptions.

Performance and route suitability

Urban commuting

For dense urban traffic with predictable distances, the RV1’s instant electric response and quiet operation may suit riders who can charge every day. Its 70 km/h top-speed rating is adequate for many city streets, but check your actual roads, traffic flow and legal speed limits. A route that requires sustained high-speed travel may be a better match for the Pulsar’s petrol format.

Highways, hills and mixed routes

The published figures do not provide a direct hill-climb, highway or load comparison. Expect speed, range or fuel economy to change on gradients, fast roads, with a passenger or carrying cargo. If your commute regularly includes open highways, long gaps between towns or unpredictable detours, petrol refueling generally gives more operational flexibility. If the route is short and known, electric planning is easier.

Passenger and cargo use

Before buying either model, check the manufacturer’s payload guidance and sit on the bike with your usual passenger. Added weight affects braking, acceleration and energy use. Do not infer carrying capacity from engine displacement, battery size or the headline range.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Warranty and service considerations

Revolt’s RV1 page states a vehicle warranty of five years or 60,000 km and a battery warranty of eight years or 80,000 km. These are distance-or-time limits, not a promise of unlimited battery performance or zero maintenance. Read the exclusions, required service schedule, battery coverage conditions and transfer rules before signing.

The cited official Pulsar pages did not list a comparable warranty figure. Ask a Bajaj dealer for the written warranty booklet, covered components, service intervals and consumables. Because the evidence is not symmetrical, it would be misleading to declare one motorcycle the warranty winner.

Service access is a local decision. Identify the nearest authorised workshop for each model, ask how long common parts are normally stocked, and confirm where an RV1 battery can be inspected or replaced. For the Pulsar, ask about routine engine oil and drivetrain maintenance; for the RV1, ask about battery diagnostics, charging equipment and software or electrical-system support. These questions matter more than a generic claim about lower maintenance.

How to compare your monthly running cost

Use your own numbers rather than a universal “electric is cheaper” or “petrol is cheaper” conclusion. Record your average monthly kilometres for at least one normal month, then calculate:

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Pulsar energy cost: monthly kilometres divided by your observed kilometres per litre, multiplied by the current local petrol price.
  2. RV1 energy cost: electricity consumed for the same distance, multiplied by your tariff. Include charging losses if your electricity meter or charger data allows.
  3. Fixed costs: insurance, registration, financing interest, parking and any subscription or service-plan charges.
  4. Maintenance: use written service schedules and local quotations for consumables and inspections.
  5. Replacement and resale: do not assume a battery will last beyond its stated warranty or that either model will retain a particular resale value without local evidence.

Run the calculation for low, typical and high monthly mileage. A rider covering very few kilometres may not recover a higher purchase price through energy savings, while a high-mileage rider with reliable home charging may place more value on electricity costs. The correct result depends on your assumptions.

Which bike fits these rider profiles?

Choose the Pulsar 125 when…

  • Your building has no dependable socket near parking.
  • You make spontaneous or intercity trips and want rapid refueling.
  • Your roads regularly require speeds above the RV1’s 70 km/h rating.
  • You prefer a conventional petrol motorcycle and established fuel-station access.
  • You want a tank that can be replenished without waiting for a charge.

Choose the RV1 when…

  • Your daily distance fits a cautious buffer below the 100 km IDC claim.
  • You can charge at home or work and secure the removable battery and charger.
  • Your route is primarily urban and a 70 km/h top speed is sufficient.
  • You value electric operation and the published eight-year/80,000 km battery warranty.
  • You have confirmed local service support and a written on-road quote.

Decision matrix for a test ride and quote

Your priority Leaning Pulsar 125 Leaning RV1 What to verify before payment
Energy access Petrol stations are easier for your routine Socket access is available every day Map your actual parking and workplace charging points.
Daily distance Long, variable or difficult to predict Known route with a conservative range buffer Measure weekday and weekend kilometres, including detours.
Road speed Frequent faster roads Mostly urban roads within 70 km/h capability Check legal limits, traffic flow and hills on your route.
Purchase price Potentially lower headline ex-showroom figure in Delhi ₹99,999 listed on the official RV1 page Compare same-city, same-variant on-road totals.
Warranty evidence Obtain the dealer’s written policy 5-year/60,000 km vehicle and 8-year/80,000 km battery claims Read exclusions, service requirements and transfer terms.

Buying checklist: complete these checks in order

  1. Write down your route. Record one-way distance, daily total, hills, highway sections, passenger use and the longest trip you make in a typical month.
  2. Confirm energy access. For the RV1, test the exact socket location and battery-carrying path. For the Pulsar, identify convenient fuel stations and their operating hours.
  3. Request matched prices. Get written ex-showroom and on-road quotes for the same date, city, trim, insurance and accessories.
  4. Check the legal and practical limits. Confirm registration requirements, speed suitability, parking rules and whether your housing society permits battery charging.
  5. Read warranty documents. Check time and distance limits, exclusions, scheduled servicing, battery conditions and what happens if ownership changes.
  6. Test ride with your normal load. Include your usual riding position, passenger if relevant, braking, turning radius, acceleration into traffic and parking maneuver.
  7. Verify service logistics. Locate the nearest authorised workshop and ask about routine turnaround, parts, battery diagnostics and roadside assistance.
  8. Run your own cost scenarios. Use local fuel and electricity rates with conservative range or efficiency assumptions; include financing and insurance.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing 100 km IDC with 51.46 km/l as if they were the same test. One is electric range under IDC; the other is a secondary claimed fuel-efficiency figure.
  • Using ex-showroom prices as final costs. Registration, insurance and city charges can materially change the bill.
  • Assigning RV1+ specifications to the RV1. Revolt’s separate RV1+ page lists 160 km IDC range and ₹1,19,990; those figures belong to the sibling model, not the RV1. See Revolt’s RV1+ page.
  • Assuming a warranty equals lifetime ownership. The RV1 battery warranty has an eight-year/80,000 km limit and conditions; it does not establish whole-life cost.
  • Ignoring charging access because the battery is removable. Carrying a battery through stairs, lifts or shared corridors may be impractical or prohibited.
  • Declaring a total-cost winner without local inputs. Energy tariffs, petrol prices, servicing, insurance, financing and resale differ by rider and city.

Final recommendation

The Pulsar 125 is the more flexible choice for petrol refueling, changing routes and riders without dependable charging. The RV1 is the more logical choice for a predictable urban commute, convenient socket access and buyers comfortable planning around a manufacturer-claimed 100 km IDC range. Make the final call only after a same-city on-road quote, a realistic route calculation and a service-and-warranty check. The specifications support a conditional choice, not an objectively universal winner.
