The Bajaj Platina 110 Drum is a conventional 4-speed commuter motorcycle, while the TVS XL100 Comfort i-TOUCHstart is a gearless moped designed around simple operation and utility. Choose the Platina if you want stronger listed performance, a larger fuel tank and motorcycle-style riding. Choose the XL100 Comfort if you value twist-and-go controls, easy starts and a lighter-duty moped format for short urban trips. Your route, load, physical comfort, local dealer support and matched on-road quotes matter more than the badge.
The comparison below uses Bajaj and TVS specifications available in 2026, plus owner-reported mileage figures published by BikeWale. Treat prices and mileage as time- and location-sensitive, and test-ride both before paying a booking amount.

At a glance: two different kinds of two-wheeler
Comparing these models only by engine size misses the main decision. The Platina 110 uses a manual four-speed gearbox and motorcycle controls. The XL100 Comfort is gearless, so the rider does not select gears or operate a clutch. That difference changes who can use each vehicle comfortably, how it behaves in traffic and what sort of work it suits.

How the transmission changes everyday riding
Platina 110: motorcycle controls and four gears
The Platina has a four-speed all-down transmission. You use the clutch and shift pedal to select a suitable gear, then modulate the throttle and clutch in traffic. Once learned, this gives you more control over acceleration and engine braking than a simple moped layout. It also means there is a learning curve for a first-time rider, a rider with limited hand strength, or anyone who wants to avoid repeated clutch work in stop-and-go traffic.
Gears are useful when your route includes flyovers, long inclines, open roads or frequent changes in speed. You can hold a lower gear on a climb and move up through the ratios as speed builds. The 9.9 Nm peak torque at 5,500 rpm and 9.5 PS peak power at 7,500 rpm are listed manufacturer outputs; they indicate a substantially stronger performance envelope than the XL100’s numbers, but they do not guarantee a particular speed, ride quality or fuel bill.
XL100 Comfort: twist-and-go simplicity
The XL100 Comfort is gearless. You start, select the controls described in the owner’s manual and modulate the throttle without clutch or gear changes. That can be less tiring for short urban errands, repeated stops and riders who simply prefer not to manage a manual transmission.
Gearless operation does not make the XL100 a faster motorcycle. Its listed 4.4 PS and 6.5 Nm are aimed at modest transport rather than brisk acceleration with a heavy load. On a congested lane, however, the lack of shifting can be the more useful advantage because attention stays on traffic, pedestrians and surface conditions.
Performance, roads and carrying work
Where the Platina has the clearer case
- Mixed commuting: A motorcycle format is better suited to a daily route that combines city streets with faster arterial roads.
- Hilly or undulating routes: Manual gear selection lets you choose a lower ratio before a climb instead of asking a small automatic drivetrain to handle every change in load.
- Longer rides: The 11-litre tank and larger engine provide a wider touring and commuting envelope, although actual range depends on traffic, speed, rider weight and maintenance.
- Passenger use: Confirm the legal and manufacturer load limits at the dealer. Do not infer carrying capacity from engine output alone.
The Platina’s 200 mm ground clearance is also relevant on broken roads and tall speed breakers. Clearance does not remove the need to slow down: suspension travel, tyre condition, wheel alignment and the combined rider load still determine whether a particular road feels controlled.

Where the XL100 Comfort can be more practical
- Short local trips: The gearless layout is convenient for markets, school runs, neighbourhood errands and repeated starts.
- Utility-oriented riding: A moped silhouette can be easier to live with when the priority is simple transport rather than motorcycle-style performance.
- Riders who dislike clutch work: There is no clutch lever or gear-shifting routine to master.
Do not assume that the Comfort variant has the same load arrangement as the XL100 Heavy-Duty. TVS’s XL100 FAQ says Comfort has non-detachable seats, while Heavy-Duty uses detachable rear seats to focus more on rugged utility and additional load flexibility. If you need to carry bulky goods, inspect the exact variant on the quotation and physically check the seat and carrier arrangement.
Engine outputs: what the numbers do and do not tell you
The Platina’s 115.06 cc engine is listed at 6.99 kW (9.5 PS) at 7,500 rpm and 9.9 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The XL100 Comfort’s 99.7 cc engine is listed at 3.20 kW (4.4 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 6.5 Nm at 3,500 rpm. On paper, the Bajaj has roughly twice the listed peak power and higher peak torque.

Peak power occurs at a specified engine speed; it is not the force available at every rpm. Final drive gearing, vehicle mass, tyre pressure, rider weight, road gradient and wind all affect acceleration. A lighter or easier-to-operate vehicle can still feel preferable in a crowded lane even when its specification sheet is less powerful.
Use a test ride to check the things a table cannot establish: throttle response at walking speed, clutch effort, vibration, brake feel, seat support, steering weight, turning circle and how the vehicle behaves with your usual passenger or bag. A five-minute ride on an empty road is not enough if your real route includes a steep ramp or rough lane.
Comfort and ergonomics: match the vehicle to the rider
Start with physical fit rather than styling. Sit on each vehicle with both feet positioned as you would at a signal. Check whether you can reach the controls without stretching, whether the handlebar makes your wrists bend, and whether your knees or hips become uncomfortable after several minutes. Ask the dealer to let you repeat the start-stop manoeuvres that dominate your commute.

The Platina’s 116 kg kerb weight is an official figure. That mass can contribute to a planted feel, but it also matters when reversing, pushing the vehicle into a parking space or recovering from a low-speed wobble. The XL100’s kerb weight was not stated on the cited TVS product page, so compare the actual showroom vehicle rather than assuming it is lighter.

Comfort’s seats are non-detachable according to TVS’s FAQ. If a salesperson discusses removable rear seating or a heavy-load setup, verify that the paperwork identifies the Heavy-Duty variant, not Comfort. Variant names can look similar in listings, and a mismatch is difficult to correct after registration.
Features and equipment
Platina 110 equipment listed by Bajaj
Bajaj lists drum brakes measuring 130 mm at the front and 110 mm at the rear, with CBS. CBS helps distribute braking between wheels when the system is applied as designed, but it does not shorten every stop on every surface. Maintain tyre pressure, keep tread in good condition and practise progressive braking.
The manufacturer also lists 200 mm ground clearance, an 11-litre tank and 116 kg kerb weight. These are specification values, not promises about real-world range or comfort. Confirm the exact equipment on the invoice if the dealer is showing a different model year or trim.
XL100 Comfort equipment listed by TVS
TVS describes the Comfort i-TOUCHstart with mobile charging, an easy on-off switch, a reserve-fuel indicator and an integrated starter-generator for silent starting. These are manufacturer-described features. Check the charging socket location, compatibility with your phone cable and the starter operation during your inspection; accessory fit and battery condition can affect day-to-day usefulness.

The TVS product page identifies this vehicle as gearless and specifies a 99.7 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine. It does not provide every comparison item shown for the Platina in the supplied material, so the absence of a value in the table should not be read as a claim that the vehicle lacks that equipment.
Fuel economy: owner reports, not a guarantee
BikeWale’s comparison page shows owner-reported mileage of 70 kmpl for the Platina 110 and 55 kmpl for the XL100 Comfort. These figures are useful as a rough expectation from that comparison page, but they are not controlled tests, manufacturer claims or guarantees for your route.
Your result can change with traffic density, cold starts, tyre pressure, service condition, rider and passenger weight, payload, speed, fuel quality and riding style. A vehicle that spends most of its time idling in congested traffic will not match a steady-speed commuter’s result. Record your own fuel use over at least several full tanks after the run-in period if operating cost is decisive.
Do not compare an owner-reported number with an official laboratory figure as if they were measured under the same method. The available material does not establish a directly comparable official mileage claim for both models.

Price: compare the same city, variant and basis
Bajaj’s current range page lists a starting price of ₹75,797 ex-showroom Delhi for the Platina 110 Drum. It is not an on-road price: registration, insurance, taxes, handling charges and optional accessories can change the amount you actually pay. The retrieved official TVS Comfort page did not expose a current price. BikeWale displays city-specific on-road pricing for Jalgaon on its comparison page, but city quotes and availability change. Because the two sources do not provide a matched, current, same-city figure here, declaring one model cheaper would be misleading.
Request written quotations for the same registration location and the exact variant names: “Platina 110 Drum” and “XL100 Comfort i-TOUCHstart.” Ask each dealer to separate ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, extended warranty and any optional service package. Compare the mandatory total first, then decide whether extras are worth buying.
Which one is better for your use?
Choose the Bajaj Platina 110 Drum when:
- You are comfortable learning or using a clutch and four-speed gearbox.
- Your commute includes open roads, flyovers, gradients or speeds at which a motorcycle format feels more natural.
- You want the stronger listed engine output and an 11-litre tank.
- You value the documented 200 mm ground clearance and CBS-equipped drum brakes.
- You regularly travel far enough that a larger motorcycle-style operating envelope matters more than gearless simplicity.
Choose the TVS XL100 Comfort when:
- You want gearless, twist-and-go operation for short urban trips.
- Repeated clutch use is uncomfortable or undesirable.
- Your priority is simple local transport rather than higher performance.
- Features such as mobile charging, an easy on-off switch, reserve-fuel indication and silent integrated starter-generator operation are useful to you.
- You specifically want the Comfort’s non-detachable seat arrangement and do not require the detachable-seat utility associated with the Heavy-Duty variant.
Pause and reassess before choosing either
- Your route is mostly high-speed or includes long, steep climbs but you are considering the XL100 solely because it is cheaper.
- You need to carry bulky commercial loads and have not confirmed the legal payload, carrier design and exact variant.
- You are comparing a Delhi ex-showroom price with an on-road quote from another city.
- You are selecting from an online listing without checking whether the model year and trim match the manufacturer’s current page.
A practical test-ride and purchase checklist
- Confirm identity: Read the displayed model and variant name on the vehicle, quotation and invoice. Ensure it is Platina 110 Drum or XL100 Comfort i-TOUCHstart, not a different trim.
- Set up your normal position: Adjust mirrors, sit in your usual footwear and check reach to the clutch, brake, throttle and switches.
- Repeat low-speed work: Perform several starts, stops, U-turns and tight manoeuvres. On the Platina, check clutch bite and first-to-second shifts; on the XL100, check throttle smoothness and starting behaviour.
- Use your real route if possible: Include a speed breaker, a slope, uneven pavement and a short open stretch. Do not exceed legal limits.
- Check braking progressively: Test gentle and firm stops in a clear area. Keep both hands and feet correctly positioned and leave room for error.
- Test the practical features: Try the XL100 charging point and easy on-off switch, inspect the reserve-fuel indicator and confirm the Platina’s controls and lighting.
- Ask about service: Get the scheduled maintenance intervals, labour rates, consumable costs, warranty terms and nearest authorised workshop in writing.
- Obtain matched quotes: Ask both dealers for an itemised on-road total in your registration city, with insurance and optional items separated.
- Check delivery documents: Verify the VIN, engine number, manufacturing month, odometer reading, included keys and the exact variant before accepting delivery.
Common comparison mistakes
Calling the higher-power model automatically better
The Platina’s listed outputs are higher, but that does not settle ease of use, parking convenience or suitability for a rider who wants no gear changes. Match capability to the route instead of treating peak power as a score.

Comfort and Heavy-Duty have different seat arrangements according to TVS. A statement about detachable rear seats belongs to Heavy-Duty, not Comfort. Check the variant code and physical seat before purchase.
Treating 70 kmpl and 55 kmpl as promised mileage
Those are owner-reported BikeWale figures. They can help set expectations, but they do not predict what either vehicle will deliver in your traffic and maintenance conditions.
Comparing unlike prices
Ex-showroom Delhi, on-road Jalgaon and a dealer quote in your city are different price bases. Ask for same-city, same-variant, itemised totals before deciding which is cheaper.
Skipping the test ride
Seat comfort, clutch effort, steering balance, brake feel and low-speed control are personal. A specification sheet cannot replace a ride that includes the conditions you face every day.
Bottom-line decision
Buy the Bajaj Platina 110 Drum if you want a capable conventional commuter motorcycle, are happy to use four gears and expect mixed or longer routes. Buy the TVS XL100 Comfort i-TOUCHstart if gearless simplicity and short-trip utility matter more than acceleration and motorcycle-style range. Neither is objectively better for every rider. The defensible choice is the one that passes your own route test, fits your body and load, and comes with the clearer same-city ownership quote.
