Standard Honda Shine 100 launch price
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India announced the OBD2B standard Shine 100 at ₹68,767 ex-showroom Delhi on 17 March 2025 and said it was available through its dealerships across India. That is a dated launch price, not a verified October 2026 quote. A later price revision, stock situation or local charges may make a current Shine more or less expensive than that historical figure suggests.

Do not confuse the Shine 100 DX with the standard model
Honda announced the Shine 100 DX separately at ₹74,959 ex-showroom Gurugram on 1 August 2025. The DX is a different variant with additional display and suspension equipment. It should not be used as the standard Shine 100’s price or specification in this comparison.
How to get a useful price comparison
- Tell both dealers the same city, purchase date and variant name: Platina 110 Drum versus standard Shine 100, not Shine 100 DX.
- Request a written, itemised on-road quotation showing ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and every dealer fee.
- Ask whether the quoted motorcycle is the current emissions/version specification and whether any discount depends on financing or insurance.
- Compare the final payable totals, not an old launch price or a headline ex-showroom number.
Engine output and everyday performance
What the published figures show
The Platina’s larger displacement is accompanied by higher stated peak power and torque in the manufacturer specifications. That suggests more headroom when carrying a passenger, climbing a flyover or maintaining speed into a headwind, but it is not proof of a faster 0–60 km/h time or a particular overtaking margin. Those outcomes also depend on gearing, rider weight, traffic and calibration.
The Shine 100’s lower-capacity engine is designed for the entry-level commuter class. A smaller engine can suit a rider who values a light, uncomplicated daily machine, but the available material does not provide a controlled comparison of throttle response, vibration, refinement or acceleration. Treat any showroom claim about “strong pickup” as marketing until you ride both motorcycles back-to-back.

Transmission details and a Bajaj page inconsistency
The detailed Platina specification identifies a four-speed, all-down shift pattern. Bajaj’s product-page promotional copy elsewhere says “5-speed gearbox,” which conflicts with that detailed table. For a purchase decision, ask the dealer to show the gearbox specification on the exact motorcycle’s documentation and rely on the detailed technical listing rather than the conflicting slogan. The Honda launch material identifies a four-speed transmission.
Brakes, CBS and real-world safety
The Platina uses a 130 mm front drum and 110 mm rear drum with CBS. The standard Shine 100 also uses drum brakes at both ends with CBS. CBS helps distribute braking force when the system is operated as designed, but it is not the same as an anti-lock braking system. Neither source establishes that one motorcycle stops more quickly or remains more stable than the other.
- During a test ride, apply the brakes progressively on a clean, dry road and check lever effort, straight-line stability and ease of modulation.
- Inspect tyre condition and pressure, because worn or incorrectly inflated tyres can overwhelm any hardware advantage.
- Ask the dealer how the CBS system is checked during scheduled service and whether replacement shoes, cables or other consumables are readily stocked locally.
For wet roads, loose surfaces or heavy traffic, smooth braking technique and adequate following distance matter at least as much as the specification sheet. Do not choose between these two on an assumed safety winner that the available evidence does not establish.

Comfort, rider fit and passenger use
What the Platina supplies
Bajaj lists a spring-in-spring rear suspension with a Nitrox canister, 110 mm rear-wheel stroke, a long and wide quilted seat, hand guards and wide footpads. These features are relevant to a commuter who spends a long time on broken urban roads or wants more room for feet and luggage. They remain equipment descriptions, not independent proof that the ride will be softer on your route.

What the Shine supplies
Honda lists a long single-piece seat, telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. A single-piece seat can make it easier for a passenger to move position, while the suspension layout is familiar to commuter-bike riders. The launch material does not provide matching seat height, ground clearance, kerb weight or rear-wheel-travel figures, so do not infer a size or comfort advantage from the absence of those numbers.
Use your body and route as the test
- Wear the shoes and clothing you normally use, sit with both hands on the grips and check whether your knees, wrists and lower back feel relaxed.
- Put both feet down at a stop. The Platina’s stated saddle height is 807 mm, but seat width and suspension sag affect reach; a specification alone cannot predict your confidence.
- Ride over the potholes, speed breakers and narrow turns found on your actual commute rather than circling only a smooth dealership lane.
- If you regularly carry a passenger, repeat the ride with a pillion and check footrest position, grab points, braking feel and whether the rear suspension bottoms out.
- Check steering effort at walking pace and the ease of moving the parked motorcycle into your normal parking space.
Mileage: there is no verified winner here
No comparable, independently measured fuel-economy result for these exact two versions was established in the manufacturer material. Bajaj uses mileage-oriented promotional language, and Honda describes the Shine 100 as fuel-efficient, but neither statement is a head-to-head test under the same route, rider, fuel and tyre conditions. It would be misleading to publish a single km/l winner from those claims.

Your result will vary with congestion, average speed, stop-start frequency, load, tyre pressure, maintenance, fuel quality, weather and riding style. If fuel cost is the deciding factor, record several full-tank-to-full-tank readings on each bike under similar conditions, or compare multiple credible owner logs that identify the exact model and usage. A short showroom ride cannot establish annual fuel cost.

Honda Shine 100 service intervals
Honda’s official Shine 100 FAQ lists the first free service at 750–1,000 km or 15–30 days; the second at 5,500–6,000 km or 165–180 days; and the third at 11,500–12,000 km or 350–365 days, whichever comes first. It also states that paid service is every 6,000 km or within six months. Use the owner’s manual for your exact model year and service case, because a dealer schedule or later revision may differ.

The same FAQ gives engine-oil capacity as 0.75 L after draining, 0.80 L after draining with the oil filter and 0.90 L after disassembly. It recommends SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil meeting JASO T 903 MA. These figures are Honda-specific guidance; verify the manual before buying oil or authorising work, especially if the engine has been opened or the model year differs.

What is not established for a direct ownership-cost comparison
The available material does not provide matched prices for servicing, consumables, warranty exclusions, parts, resale or long-term reliability for both motorcycles. Ask each local workshop for a written schedule and typical costs for oil, filters, brake shoes, chain care, tyres and the first paid service.
