Bajaj Platina 100 vs Honda Shine 100: Which 100cc Bike Fits Your Ride?

The Platina 100 leads on listed output, tank size and publisher-reported mileage, while the Shine 100 is lighter and may cost less locally. Compare exact variants, current on-road quotes and ride both before choosing.

There is no single winner. Based on the currently published figures, the Bajaj Platina 100 is the better match for a buyer who prioritizes claimed fuel economy, its 11-litre tank and comfort-oriented equipment. The Honda Shine 100 is the more attractive choice when a lower local quote, much lighter kerb weight or the Shine 100 DX feature set matters more. Published prices and specifications cover different variants and dates, so compare an exact-variant on-road quotation and ride both motorcycles before paying a booking amount.

At a glance: what separates the Platina 100 and Shine 100?

These are closely sized commuter motorcycles, but they target slightly different priorities. The Platina 100 has a marginally larger engine and higher listed output, while the Shine 100 DX has a lower stated power figure and a modern information display. A comparison page reports a 18 kg kerb-weight gap and a 15 km/l claimed-mileage gap in favour of the Bajaj, although neither mileage number is an independently controlled, head-to-head result.

Decision factor Bajaj Platina 100 Honda Shine 100 / Shine 100 DX What it means
Engine and output 99.59 cc; 6.03 kW (8.2 PS) at 7,500 rpm; 8.3 Nm listed for the model range Shine 100 DX: 98.98 cc; 5.43 kW at 7,500 rpm; 8.04 Nm at 5,000 rpm The Bajaj has the higher published output; road feel still depends on gearing, load and calibration.
Publisher-reported ex-showroom price ₹72,942 (ZigWheels, October 13, 2026) ₹65,642 (ZigWheels, October 13, 2026) These are comparison-page figures; confirm the exact city and variant with a dealer.
Official price reference Bajaj’s page displays ₹72,942 in one listing and ₹65,897 in another section Honda announced ₹74,959 ex-showroom Gurugram for the Shine 100 DX on August 1, 2025 The numbers are not directly interchangeable because the pages use different dates, locations and variant contexts.
Publisher-reported kerb weight 117 kg 99 kg The Honda’s lower reported weight can make parking and low-speed manoeuvres easier, subject to variant verification.
Publisher-reported mileage 70 km/l 55 km/l Use these as claimed figures, not guaranteed consumption.
Fuel tank 11 litres listed by Bajaj Not stated in the cited material A larger tank can reduce refuelling frequency, but actual range depends on your measured economy.

For specifications, see Bajaj’s Platina 100 product page, Honda’s Shine 100 DX announcement, and the ZigWheels comparison.

Price: which one is cheaper?

Why the published numbers do not line up cleanly

ZigWheels listed the Platina 100 at ₹72,942 ex-showroom and the Shine 100 at ₹65,642 ex-showroom on October 13, 2026. On that single comparison page, the Honda is ₹7,300 less before registration, insurance, taxes and other on-road charges. That is useful as a starting point, not as a final payable price.

Bajaj’s own page displays ₹72,942 in its main listing but ₹65,897 in a separate section. Because the same official page shows two figures, ask a local authorised dealer to confirm the live price for the exact Platina 100 variant and colour. Do not assume the lower number applies to every city or an identical equipment specification.

Honda’s official announcement dated August 1, 2025 gives ₹74,959 ex-showroom Gurugram for the Shine 100 DX. That is a dated, location-specific announcement price for the DX variant; it is not proof of a current nationwide price for every motorcycle sold as “Shine 100.” A 2026 buyer should request a written quotation showing model name, variant, ex-showroom amount, insurance, registration, accessories and delivery charges.

How to compare your actual purchase cost

  1. Tell both dealers the same city, registration area and intended variant.
  2. Ask for an itemised ex-showroom and on-road quotation with the quotation date.
  3. Check whether the quote is for the standard Shine 100 or Shine 100 DX; do not compare a DX price with a non-DX Platina listing without noting the difference.
  4. Remove optional accessories from both quotes, then add only equipment you genuinely want.
  5. Confirm that the quoted motorcycle is physically available and ask how long the quoted price remains valid.

The cheaper motorcycle on a comparison page can become more expensive after a city’s registration, insurance selection or variant change. The only meaningful price verdict is the difference between two same-day, same-city, same-basis on-road quotations.

Engine and performance: what do the specifications suggest?

Bajaj Platina 100

Bajaj lists a 99.59 cc engine producing 6.03 kW (8.2 PS) at 7,500 rpm and 8.3 Nm of torque on its model-range page. The displacement is only slightly above the Honda’s, but the listed peak power is higher. That can be relevant when carrying a passenger, climbing an incline or joining faster traffic, yet peak figures alone cannot predict acceleration in every gear.

Bajaj also lists an 11-litre fuel tank. Its product page promotes a long seat, electric start, front and rear suspension, wider rubber footpads and an LED daytime running light. The page describes “Advanced Comfortec technology for a smooth ride even on bad roads”; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent ride-test result.

Honda Shine 100 and Shine 100 DX

Honda’s August 1, 2025 announcement is specifically for the Shine 100 DX. It identifies a 98.98 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected, OBD2B-compliant engine using Honda’s eSP technology, producing 5.43 kW at 7,500 rpm and 8.04 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The announcement also specifies a four-speed gearbox.

The Honda’s stated power is lower than the Platina’s listed 6.03 kW, while the torque figures are close. A four-speed transmission gives the rider defined gear choices, but the useful difference on your commute depends on shift spacing, traffic speed, rider weight and how often the route includes hills or open roads. The cited material does not provide a controlled acceleration test, top-speed test or like-for-like gear-ratio comparison, so a test ride is more reliable than declaring a performance winner from the output numbers alone.

Choose based on the roads you actually ride

  • Mostly flat, slow urban streets: light controls, easy balance and smooth low-speed response may matter more than the higher peak-power figure.
  • Frequent flyovers, gradients or a passenger: the Platina’s higher listed output is worth checking during a real ride, especially from low and mid speeds.
  • Mixed city and open-road commuting: ride both at the speeds you normally use and note vibration, shift frequency, braking confidence and how quickly each recovers after slowing.

Mileage: 70 km/l versus 55 km/l is not a laboratory result

The ZigWheels comparison reports 70 km/l for the Platina 100 and 55 km/l for the Shine 100. Those are publisher-reported or claimed figures. The cited official pages do not provide a controlled, same-route, same-rider mileage test for both motorcycles, so the 15 km/l difference should not be treated as a promise.

Your result will change with traffic, average speed, tyre pressure, passenger and luggage weight, road gradient, weather, idling time, maintenance and riding style. Fuel-injection hardware, gearing and engine condition can also affect consumption, but the available figures do not isolate any of those variables.

A practical way to establish your own fuel cost

  1. Fill the tank to the same point each time and record the odometer reading.
  2. Ride your normal route rather than an unusually gentle test loop; note whether the trip includes a passenger, hills or heavy congestion.
  3. Refuel at the same point after several normal commuting days and divide kilometres travelled by litres added.
  4. Repeat the calculation over more than one tank and compare both bikes under similar weather and traffic conditions.

Use the 70 and 55 km/l figures to form an initial expectation, then use your own measured number for a purchase decision. A motorcycle that costs less but consumes more fuel in your particular commute may not remain cheaper over time; calculate with your local fuel price and expected annual distance rather than assuming the published gap will persist.

Weight and low-speed handling

ZigWheels lists the Platina 100 at 117 kg kerb and the Shine 100 at 99 kg kerb, a reported difference of 18 kg. Verify the exact variants because equipment, model year and the publisher’s specification basis can change a listed weight.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An 18 kg difference is noticeable when reversing out of a parking space, placing a bike on a centre stand, making a tight U-turn or catching a motorcycle that is beginning to lean. Riders with limited upper-body strength, shorter inseams or frequent stop-start traffic may prefer the Honda’s reported lightness. A heavier motorcycle can still feel stable and comfortable at speed, so do not equate lower weight automatically with better highway behaviour.

Handling checks during your test ride

  • With the engine off, walk each motorcycle backwards on level ground and on the slope outside the dealership.
  • Make several slow U-turns and figure-eight turns; notice steering effort and how easy it is to correct a small lean.
  • Stop, put one foot down and restart repeatedly, as you would in traffic.
  • Ask the salesperson to demonstrate the centre-stand lift if you expect to park in a tight or uneven area.

Features and equipment: variant details matter

Honda Shine 100 DX equipment

The Honda announcement describes a digital LCD display showing real-time mileage, distance-to-empty and service reminders. It also lists telescopic front forks, five-step adjustable rear shock absorbers, drum brakes and Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS). These details belong to the Shine 100 DX announcement; do not assume that every Shine 100 sold under a different variant name has the same display, suspension adjustment or braking equipment.

During inspection, switch on the ignition and verify that the display functions, check that the service-reminder interface is understandable to you, and ask the dealer to demonstrate the rear-shock adjustment positions. CBS is a safety aid, not a substitute for progressive braking, safe following distance and appropriate speed.

Bajaj Platina 100 equipment and comfort claims

Bajaj highlights a long seat, electric start, front and rear suspension, wider rubber footpads and an LED DRL. The product page’s Comfortec description is marketing language, so use it as a reason to arrange a ride, not as proof that the bike will suit every road or body type.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check reach to the handlebar, knee position, seat firmness and passenger space after at least 15 minutes. Ride over the broken surfaces you encounter regularly, where permitted, and listen for rattles while checking whether the suspension returns without repeated bouncing. A feature list cannot tell you whether the seat shape or suspension rate works for your weight.

Which bike is better for different buyers?

Pick the Platina 100 when these priorities dominate

  • You place a high value on the 70 km/l figure reported by the comparison publisher, while understanding that your actual result may differ.
  • The locally verified Platina quote is competitive after you account for the page’s conflicting ₹72,942 and ₹65,897 displays.
  • You want the listed 11-litre tank, electric start, LED DRL, wide footpads or long-seat layout.
  • The higher published 6.03 kW output feels more suitable after riding with your normal load.
  • The seat and suspension feel comfortable on your daily roads rather than merely sounding good in the brochure.

Pick the Shine 100 when these priorities dominate

  • Your dealer’s current, same-city quote is lower for the exact variant you want.
  • The reported 99 kg kerb weight makes a meaningful difference when you manoeuvre, park or ride in dense traffic.
  • You prefer the Shine 100 DX’s digital LCD information, distance-to-empty display, service reminders or adjustable rear shocks.
  • The Honda’s engine response, four-speed gearbox and braking feel suit you better on a test ride despite its lower stated output.
  • You are specifically buying the DX and have confirmed that the quoted equipment and price match the motorcycle in stock.

A no-regrets buying checklist

  1. Identify the exact model: write “Platina 100,” “Shine 100” or “Shine 100 DX” on each quotation; variant names are not interchangeable.
  2. Check the date and location: record whether a price is ex-showroom or on-road, and which city applies. Honda’s ₹74,959 figure is ex-showroom Gurugram from August 1, 2025.
  3. Resolve price conflicts: ask Bajaj’s dealer to explain the two figures shown on its page and provide the currently applicable amount in writing.
  4. Verify equipment on the actual motorcycle: inspect the display, suspension adjusters, brakes, DRL, starter and seat rather than relying only on a web listing.
  5. Perform a realistic ride: include a slow U-turn, stop-start traffic, a moderate incline if available, normal braking and a short stretch at your usual cruising speed.
  6. Measure ergonomics with your gear: bring the helmet, footwear and any regular bag; comfort can change with riding equipment.
  7. Ask about delivery: confirm manufacturing month, colour availability, registration process, warranty documentation and the expected hand-over date.
  8. Keep the quotes: save both itemised quotations so later changes to insurance, registration or accessories are visible.

Bottom line

The Bajaj Platina 100 is the conditional mileage-and-comfort pick: it has the higher listed output, an 11-litre tank and a 70 km/l figure reported by the comparison publisher, plus several comfort-oriented features claimed by Bajaj. The Honda Shine 100 is the conditional value-and-lightness pick: the comparison page lists a lower price and 99 kg kerb weight, while the Shine 100 DX adds a digital display, adjustable rear shocks and CBS according to Honda’s 2025 announcement.

Neither set of figures establishes a universal best bike. Buy the one whose exact variant has the better local on-road quote, whose weight and controls you can manage confidently, and whose engine, seat, suspension and braking feel right after a proper test ride.
