Bajaj Platina 100 or TVS Sport: Which Commuter Bike Fits You?

The Platina 100 brings an 11-litre tank and comfort-focused equipment, while the TVS Sport offers a larger engine, more listed torque and adjustable rear suspension. Compare current local quotes and test ride both before choosing.

There is no evidence-backed universal winner between the Bajaj Platina 100 and TVS Sport. The Platina 100 offers the larger listed fuel tank and comfort-focused equipment such as a long seat and long-travel suspension. The TVS Sport has a larger engine, higher listed peak torque delivered at lower rpm, and a five-step adjustable rear shock. Choose only after comparing a current, city-specific on-road quote and riding both motorcycles; neither the available specifications nor the published mileage figures prove a single comfort or economy champion.

At a glance: which one suits your priorities?

If your priority is… More relevant specification What it means for your decision
A larger fuel tank Bajaj Platina 100: 11 litres It gives more stated tank capacity, but not automatically more range. Range still depends on actual fuel consumption and riding conditions.
Engine size and low-rpm torque TVS Sport: 109.7 cc and 8.7 Nm at 4,500 rpm TVS lists more displacement and torque than the Platina, but a specification sheet cannot predict the exact feel in traffic.
A long, comfort-oriented setup Platina: long soft seat and long front/rear suspension described by Bajaj Those features make the Platina worth testing if broken roads or long commuting are common. Comfort remains rider- and road-dependent.
Rear-suspension adjustment Sport: five-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber The preload-style adjustment can help you tailor the rear suspension for solo or pillion use; verify the setting and operation on the exact variant.
The lowest confirmed price Platina: ₹72,942 ex-showroom Delhi on Bajaj’s current model page The figure is not an on-road price, and the same Bajaj page contains conflicting price text. TVS’s current official price was not established, so obtain written local quotes.

The practical answer is conditional: start with the Platina if tank capacity and Bajaj’s comfort equipment address your route; start with the Sport if its larger engine, lower-rpm torque figure or adjustable rear shock matters more. A test ride and a same-day quote should decide between otherwise close commuter-bike propositions.

Fuel-tank capacity 11 litres 10 litres The Platina has the larger stated tank; capacity alone does not establish range.
Rear suspension description Bajaj describes long front and rear suspension and a 110 mm spring-in-spring rear setup Five-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber Different approaches require a back-to-back ride, especially with a passenger.

Kerb weight 117 kg in Autocar India’s comparison 112 kg on the TVS technical page and in Autocar’s comparison The Sport is listed lighter; equipment and fuel levels can affect how a bike feels.

Engine performance: what the numbers can and cannot tell you

Power is listed as equal

Bajaj lists 6.03 kW, equivalent to 8.2 PS, at 7,500 rpm for the 99.59 cc Platina 100. TVS also lists 6.03 kW for the 109.7 cc Sport, at 7,350 rpm. On paper, that puts their stated peak power at the same kilowatt figure, although the brands present the data differently. It does not mean acceleration, overtaking or hill performance will be identical: gearing, throttle calibration, rider weight, tyre condition and the engine’s torque curve all influence those outcomes.

TVS lists more torque at a lower rpm

The Sport’s listed maximum torque is 8.7 Nm at 4,500 rpm, compared with 8.3 Nm at 5,500 rpm for the Platina. The 0.4 Nm difference and lower peak-torque speed suggest a specification advantage for the Sport in the part of the rev range often used in urban riding. It is not a measured acceleration result, and it should not be translated into a guaranteed “faster” or “better” claim. During a ride, pay attention to how easily each bike pulls away in second gear, responds when carrying a passenger and recovers speed without frequent downshifts.

Match the engine to your route

  • Short, mostly flat city trips: Both outputs are in the same stated power class, so controls, seat comfort and dealer convenience may matter more than displacement.
  • Frequent flyovers, slopes or two-up commuting: Give the Sport’s larger displacement and lower-rpm torque figure a focused test, while checking whether its riding position suits you.
  • Open roads: Assess vibration, wind protection, braking confidence and stability at the speeds you actually use. Manufacturer peak figures do not replace this check.

Fuel tank and mileage: avoid a false economy verdict

Tank capacity and usable range are different

The Platina’s listed 11-litre tank is one litre larger than the Sport’s 10-litre tank. That can reduce refuelling frequency if both motorcycles achieve similar consumption, but no comparable official consumption figure for both models was provided. A bigger tank can also mean more weight when full. Calculate range only after you have a credible consumption figure for your route and riding style.

What the published user reports show

Autocar India’s 2026 comparison labels user-reported mileage of 74.56 kmpl for the Platina 100 and 70.49 kmpl for the TVS Sport. These values are not a controlled same-route test, a manufacturer guarantee or a reliable forecast for an individual commute. Traffic density, speed, tyre pressure, maintenance, payload, fuel quality, weather and how often the engine is idled can move real consumption substantially. Treat the figures as context, not as proof that the Platina is the mileage winner.

How to measure your own fuel use

  1. Fill the tank to the same practical level at a station and record the odometer.
  2. Ride your normal route for at least one full tank, keeping a note of passenger load, tyre-pressure checks and unusual traffic.
  3. Refill to the same level and divide kilometres travelled by litres added. Repeat the calculation over more than one tank before comparing bikes.

Do not run either motorcycle empty to chase a maximum-range number; refuelling before reserve is safer and gives more consistent records.

Comfort, suspension and everyday ride quality

Platina’s comfort equipment

Bajaj’s product description highlights a long soft seat, long front and rear suspension and a 110 mm spring-in-spring rear setup. Those are relevant features for rough urban roads and extended saddle time. They still do not establish that every rider will find the Platina more comfortable: seat width, handlebar reach, foot-peg position and suspension preload can matter as much as travel.

Sport’s adjustable rear shock

TVS specifies a five-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber. Adjustment can be useful when the load changes between solo riding and a pillion, provided the mechanism is easy to reach and correctly set. Ask the dealer to demonstrate all five positions, then ride over the same broken surface in a setting appropriate to your weight. A feature that is never adjusted will not deliver its full practical benefit.

A simple back-to-back comfort test

  1. Set both motorcycles to their normal delivery settings and check that tyre pressures are correct.
  2. Ride the same loop containing speed breakers, patched asphalt, a smooth section and a tight turn.
  3. Repeat the loop with your regular passenger if two-up travel is common.
  4. Record pressure points at the seat, wrist angle, knee bend, suspension harshness and how easily your feet reach the ground.
  5. On the Sport, repeat the rough-road section after trying a different rear-shock position. Do not compare a carefully adjusted Sport with an untouched Platina.

Brakes, clearance and handling hardware

Autocar India’s comparison lists drum brakes at both ends for the two motorcycles. Because equipment can vary by model year and local variant, inspect the actual bike and its invoice rather than relying only on a comparison page. Check lever feel, straight-line stopping, stability over a damp patch and whether the brakes can be modulated smoothly with a passenger.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Autocar lists 200 mm of ground clearance and 117 kg kerb weight for the Platina, while TVS and Autocar list 175 mm and 112 kg for the Sport. The Platina figures are secondary and should be confirmed against the current variant before you use them to plan a route. If your neighbourhood has tall speed breakers or a steep ramp, ride both over the obstacle slowly and check for underbody contact. A lighter motorcycle may be easier to manoeuvre by hand, while greater clearance can be valuable on poorly maintained roads; the useful choice depends on the exact roads you ride.

Price, variant and ownership-cost checks

What is actually established

Bajaj’s current model page accessed in 2026 lists the Platina 100 at ₹72,942 ex-showroom Delhi. The same page contains conflicting price text in another section, so treat ₹72,942 as a listed reference, not a final payable amount. Ex-showroom price excludes registration, road tax, insurance, accessories and any dealer charges.

A current TVS price was not established on the official technical page reviewed. Secondary comparison prices were inconsistent, so do not use an old web table to declare either motorcycle cheaper. Ask a TVS dealer for a dated, itemised quotation for the precise Sport variant available in your city.

Request comparable on-road quotes

  1. Specify the same purchase date, city, variant and colour-related charges, if any.
  2. Request separate lines for ex-showroom price, registration, road tax, insurance, handling or logistics fees, accessories and discounts.
  3. Ask whether the quotation assumes a cash purchase, a loan, an exchange bonus or a limited-time promotion.
  4. Check the insurance policy’s insurer, coverage, deductible and add-ons rather than comparing only the total.
  5. Keep both written quotes and compare the final payable amount, not a headline starting price.

Ownership costs that still need your own quote

No comparable service-cost or insurance schedule was established for these models. Before deciding, ask each dealer for the recommended maintenance intervals, labour rates, consumables, warranty conditions and the price of common replacement items such as brake shoes, tyres, cables and a battery. Confirm that parts and authorised service are available where you live. These local facts can outweigh a small difference in purchase price.

Which bike is better for different riders?

Choose the Platina 100 first when…

  • You value the 11-litre listed tank and want fewer planned fuel stops, while accepting that actual range must be measured.
  • Your roads are rough and the long seat and suspension description feel better in your test ride.
  • You prefer the Bajaj dealer, service location or written quote available in your area.
  • The current Platina variant’s confirmed equipment and price fit your budget after on-road charges.

Choose the TVS Sport first when…

  • You want the larger 109.7 cc engine and the 8.7 Nm torque figure listed at 4,500 rpm.
  • You regularly vary between solo and pillion loads and will use the five-step rear-shock adjustment.
  • The Sport feels more natural in traffic, on inclines or during overtakes in your back-to-back ride.
  • Its lower listed kerb weight or local service support is more useful for your routine.

Do not choose on one number alone

Neither displacement, tank capacity, claimed mileage, ground clearance nor a quoted ex-showroom figure captures the complete ownership decision. A motorcycle that fits your body, route, passenger needs and local support network can be the better purchase even when another model wins one specification row.

A buyer’s inspection and test-ride checklist

  • Identity: Match the model name, variant, manufacturing date and vehicle-identification details on the motorcycle, invoice and registration paperwork.
  • Controls: Check clutch take-up, throttle return, gear selection, steering movement and switch operation before leaving the dealership.
  • Fit: Sit in your normal riding position, place both feet as you would at a stop and verify that a regular passenger has usable space and grab support.
  • Suspension: Inspect for leaks, confirm the Sport’s adjustment positions and ask how the Platina’s rear spring setup is serviced.
  • Brakes and tyres: Check pad or shoe condition on the displayed bike, tyre date and tread, lever travel and straight-line braking on a safe road.
  • Noise and vibration: Ride through the rpm range you normally use and note mirrors, grips, seat and foot-peg vibration.
  • Load test: If two-up travel is routine, repeat starts, turns and speed breakers with your passenger rather than extrapolating from a solo ride.
  • Documents: Obtain the owner’s manual, warranty terms, service schedule, insurance details and a written list of every charge.

Bottom line for the Platina 100 versus Sport decision

The Platina 100’s strongest documented advantages are its 11-litre tank and Bajaj’s comfort-oriented seat and suspension description. The TVS Sport answers with more displacement, a higher listed torque peak at lower rpm and a five-step adjustable rear shock. Both list 6.03 kW maximum power. Because mileage figures are user reports rather than a controlled test, and because current prices and some equipment depend on city and variant, the responsible choice is not a blanket winner: compare two fresh on-road quotes, verify the exact motorcycles and complete the same route on both before you pay.
