Bajaj Auto launched its Freedom 125 in Pune on July 5, 2024—not in June. The company described it as the “world’s first CNG-integrated motorcycle”; that superlative is Bajaj’s claim, not an independently established global-priority finding.
When did the Bajaj Freedom 125 launch?
Bajaj Auto’s launch announcement is dated July 5, 2024, and says the Freedom 125 launched that day in Pune, India. That contradicts the June date in the original headline. Bajaj’s announcement called it both “the world’s first CNG motorcycle” and “the world’s first CNG-integrated motorcycle.”
Bookings, first delivery and rollout
Bajaj said the first customer delivery took place in Pune and nationwide bookings opened in July 2024. In August, the company announced a staged rollout to 78 towns, naming locations in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Delhi NCR and Karnataka. These were announcements about the 2024 launch and rollout; they do not establish current dealer coverage or stock.
Bajaj’s July 17, 2024 update describes the bookings and first delivery. Its August 13, 2024 rollout announcement lists the planned expansion.

How the Freedom 125’s two-fuel system works
The Freedom 125 combines CNG with a 2 L auxiliary petrol tank. The arrangement gives riders two fuel options, with petrol as a fallback; it does not mean the motorcycle can use either fuel without access to the corresponding supply.
In its July 5, 2024 launch release, Bajaj claimed more than 200 km from 2 kg of CNG and more than 130 km from the petrol tank, for a combined claimed range of 330 km. Those are manufacturer figures, not independently verified road-test results. Actual range can vary, and the combined figure depends on having both fuels available.

What Bajaj claimed about running costs and emissions
Bajaj’s launch release said operating costs could be up to 50% lower than those of comparable petrol motorcycles. It also claimed CNG combustion produces approximately 26.7% less CO2 than petrol, 85% lower non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), and 43% less nitrogen oxides (NOx). These are Bajaj’s claims from July 5, 2024, not independently validated results or guaranteed savings for an individual rider.
Whether it saves money depends on the purchase price, local CNG and petrol prices, access to CNG stations and how the motorcycle is used. A location-specific comparison is needed before concluding that it costs less to own.
