There is no single winner. Choose the Bajaj Dominar 400 if you want a petrol sports-tourer, a six-speed manual gearbox and refuelling that does not depend on charging access. Choose the OLA Roadster Pro only if an electric motorcycle suits your routes, you can verify delivery and local support, and home or workplace charging is practical. The Roadster Pro’s range and performance figures are announced or claimed values, not results from a controlled road test against the Dominar.
At a glance: which one is better?
The Dominar 400 and Roadster Pro are alternatives built around different ownership decisions rather than two versions of the same motorcycle. The Dominar is a conventional petrol sports-tourer with a manual transmission. The Roadster Pro is an electric motorcycle with automatic drive. That difference affects every daily question: where energy comes from, how long a trip can be planned without a stop, what local service must be available and how the purchase price should be compared.

- Best fit for petrol touring: Bajaj Dominar 400.
- Best fit for an electric commute or route with dependable charging: OLA Roadster Pro, subject to current delivery and service confirmation.
- Cheaper on the dated announced figures: the Roadster Pro 8 kWh announcement was below the Dominar’s July 2025 Delhi launch price, but the dates, cities, variants and price labels do not match.
- More convincing performance on paper: the Roadster Pro 16 kWh announcement cites higher peak output and torque, while the Dominar has published engine output and a manual gearbox. No same-day independent test establishes which is faster, more comfortable or better over a complete route.
A fair decision therefore starts with your route, charging situation and purchase quote—not with a single headline power number.

Sources: Bajaj Dominar 400 product page, Bajaj’s 4 July 2025 launch release and the Ola Electric 15 August 2024 announcement reproduced in a BSE filing. Comparison listings at BikeWale and ZigWheels corroborate the broad petrol/manual versus electric/automatic distinction.
What the Dominar 400 offers
A conventional sports-tourer layout
The Dominar 400 uses a 349.13 cc liquid-cooled petrol engine with 29.42 kW (40.6 PS) at 9,000 rpm and 33.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm, according to Bajaj’s current product page. Its six-speed gearbox gives the rider direct control over gear selection, engine speed and engine braking. Those are published specifications, not independent acceleration or top-speed measurements.
The 13-litre tank matters most to riders who plan long stretches between fuel stops or travel through places where public charging is sparse. A petrol stop is generally a short, familiar transaction, but actual trip distance still depends on riding conditions, traffic, speed and the motorcycle’s real fuel consumption. The available material does not establish a controlled fuel-range test for the current Dominar.

Four selectable modes
Bajaj’s current listing and its 4 July 2025 launch release identify Road, Rain, Sport and Off-Road modes. The release also describes the updated motorcycle as ride-by-wire. These modes give the rider a way to select the manufacturer’s intended response for different surfaces and conditions, but the published sources do not quantify mode-specific power, throttle maps or traction limits. Do not infer a particular percentage reduction or acceleration result from the mode names.
Touring-focused equipment
The July 2025 launch material calls out a bonded-glass speedometer, redesigned handlebar and a carrier with a GPS mount. These are useful clues for a rider who values navigation and luggage-related touring equipment. They do not, by themselves, prove a particular comfort level, wind protection, payload capacity or long-distance reliability. Bajaj motorcycle business president Sarang Kanade described the Dominar as “a gateway to real-world experiences”; that is the company’s positioning, not an independent test conclusion.

What the Roadster Pro offers
Electric drive and two announced battery sizes
Ola’s 15 August 2024 announcement listed an 8 kWh Roadster Pro at ₹1,99,999 with a claimed 316 km IDC range, and a 16 kWh version at ₹2,49,999 with a claimed 579 km IDC range. IDC is a standardized claim, not a promise that every rider will achieve that distance. Speed, rider weight, temperature, traffic, gradients, tyre pressure and accessory load can all change practical range. No controlled owner-range or same-route comparison with the Dominar is established here.
The same announcement cited 52 kW peak output and 105 Nm of torque for the higher-capacity model. Peak electric figures and petrol engine figures are measured and delivered differently, so placing the numbers in one column does not predict which bike will feel quicker in every situation. The Roadster Pro’s automatic drive also removes manual clutch and gear changes, which may appeal in stop-start traffic but gives less direct mechanical control to riders who prefer shifting.

Charging is the central practical question
Ola said customers could use its existing charging network. That statement does not establish that a charger is on your commute, available on every touring route, compatible with the current motorcycle or operational when you need it. Before choosing the Roadster Pro, map the chargers you would actually use and confirm connector, access, payment, operating hours and expected charging time with the seller. The announcement supplied here does not specify charging time, home-charger requirements or electricity cost.
Availability requires a current check
The 2024 announcement said Roadster Pro deliveries were planned for Q4 FY26. A forward-looking delivery schedule is not proof of stock in your city in October 2026. Ask for a written delivery estimate, the exact battery variant, warranty terms, service location and parts-support process before paying a booking amount. Current city coverage and after-sales performance were not established by the cited sources.
Performance: what can and cannot be concluded
On paper, the Roadster Pro 16 kWh announcement’s peak output and torque figures are much larger than the Dominar’s published engine figures. That may indicate strong acceleration potential, but it is not a controlled performance result. The figures refer to different powertrains, and the announcement does not provide a matching test protocol, rider weight, state of charge, temperature, tyre condition, gear or surface.

The Dominar’s six-speed manual lets an experienced rider keep the engine in a preferred part of its rev range. The Roadster Pro’s automatic drive delivers its response without clutch work or gear selection. For city riding, smooth electric response may matter more than peak numbers; for a rider who enjoys selecting gears on a winding road, the Dominar’s controls may be the deciding feature. Neither preference can be settled by a specification sheet.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not treat BikeWale or ZigWheels listing comparisons as a substitute for a controlled, same-day test. They are useful for identifying the broad category difference and collecting listed specifications, but the available evidence does not establish comparative braking, cornering, ride comfort, heat management, noise, vibration or passing performance.
Range, refuelling and route planning
When the Dominar is simpler
Choose the Dominar’s petrol system when your regular routes include highways or smaller towns where fuel stations are predictable but chargers are not. A 13-litre tank gives you a familiar refuelling routine, and carrying the trip plan does not require checking a charging network. You still need to budget for fuel stops and monitor consumption; the published tank size alone is not a verified kilometre range.
When the Roadster Pro can make sense
An electric motorcycle can be convenient when you can charge at home or work and most trips fit comfortably inside the usable range of your chosen battery. The announced IDC figures may look generous, especially for the 16 kWh version, but use them as an upper-bound planning reference rather than a real-world guarantee. Leave a buffer for weather, hills, high-speed travel and charger detours.
A practical route test before purchase
- Write down your longest normal weekday trip and your most demanding weekend route.
- Identify where the motorcycle would be parked overnight and whether a safe, approved electrical connection is available.
- For each charging stop you would rely on, verify that it is operating, accessible to your account and located without a major detour.
- Ask the dealer how the battery percentage, charging rate and roadside support are handled if a trip runs longer than planned.
- Compare the result with the Dominar’s fuel-station availability on the same routes, then repeat the calculation using a same-date on-road quote.
Price and purchase comparison
Price claims must carry their date and label. Bajaj’s release quoted ₹2,38,682 as the Delhi ex-showroom launch price of the updated Dominar on 4 July 2025, while the live product page accessed on 13 October 2026 displays different price figures. Ola’s two figures are announced prices from 15 August 2024. These are not same-date, same-city, same-variant on-road prices, so declaring one motorcycle universally cheaper would be misleading.

| Buyer question | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Which is cheaper to buy? | Obtain a current, city-specific on-road quote for the exact Dominar variant and the exact Roadster Pro battery variant, including registration, insurance, taxes, charger and accessories. |
| Which costs less to run? | Use your measured fuel or electricity rate, annual distance, service schedule, insurance and any charging-equipment cost. No reliable city-specific total-cost calculation is established by the cited material. |
| What happens if delivery is delayed? | Confirm booking-cancellation terms, delivery date, variant and refund process in writing before payment. |
Do not compare an ex-showroom launch figure for one motorcycle with a current on-road quote for the other. Ask both sellers for the same date, city, tax treatment and insurance assumptions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Ownership checks that can change the decision
Service access
Locate the nearest authorised service point for each motorcycle and ask whether routine work, software diagnostics, battery support and crash repairs are handled there. A motorcycle that looks ideal on paper can be impractical if a minor fault requires a long transport journey. The available sources do not verify service density, repair turnaround or parts availability for your city.
Charging and electrical installation
For the Roadster Pro, confirm who supplies and installs the home equipment, what electrical load is required, whether your parking space permits installation and how billing works in a shared building. The announcement’s reference to an existing charging network does not answer these property-specific questions.
Warranty and insurance
Read the battery, motor, controller and vehicle warranty separately from the standard motorcycle warranty. Check exclusions for water exposure, accident damage, battery degradation, software faults and commercial use. Obtain insurance quotes for both motorcycles using the exact variant and registration location; premium differences can change the purchase calculation.

Decision guide by rider type
Daily urban commuter
Pick the Roadster Pro if home or workplace charging is dependable, your daily distance leaves a sensible range buffer and local service is confirmed. Pick the Dominar if you cannot control where the motorcycle is parked or charged, or if quick petrol refuelling is more useful than silent electric operation.
Weekend highway rider
The Dominar is the lower-risk choice when routes cross many towns and fuel stations are easier to find than verified chargers. The Roadster Pro can work for a rider whose route has reliable charging and who accepts planning around stops, but the announced IDC number should not be treated as a tested touring distance.
Rider who enjoys manual control
The Dominar’s six-speed gearbox is the direct answer. The Roadster Pro’s automatic drive is simpler in traffic but cannot provide the same clutch-and-shift involvement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTechnology-focused early adopter
The Roadster Pro may be attractive for its electric powertrain and announced peak figures, but make delivery, software support, battery warranty and charging availability conditions of the purchase. A technology feature is valuable only when it works on your routes and can be serviced locally.
A seven-step buying process
- Define the route: record daily distance, longest monthly trip, highway percentage and typical passenger or luggage load.
- Choose the energy model: decide whether petrol stops or scheduled charging better match your parking and travel routine.
- Request matching quotes: ask for current on-road prices in the same city, with registration, insurance and required equipment itemised.
- Verify the exact motorcycle: confirm Dominar model year and trim, or Roadster Pro battery size, announced specifications, delivery status and included accessories.
- Check support: visit or call the nearest authorised service location and ask about routine maintenance, diagnostics, accident repair and parts.
- Test the controls: ride each motorcycle where possible, paying attention to reach, riding position, low-speed balance, brake feel, throttle response and luggage practicality rather than relying on published figures.
- Recalculate after the test: include insurance, fuel or electricity, charging equipment, service and expected travel interruptions before signing.
Evidence limits you should keep in mind
The available published material does not provide a controlled, current comparison of real-world range, acceleration, braking, comfort, reliability or total ownership cost. It also does not verify current Roadster Pro stock, city-by-city service coverage or charger availability. The Dominar specifications are manufacturer-stated, and the Roadster Pro prices, range and delivery timing are historical announcement figures. Treat the tables as a starting point for questions to ask a dealer, not as a substitute for a current quotation and a ride.
Final verdict
The Bajaj Dominar 400 is the clearer recommendation for a petrol-oriented sports-tourer buyer who values a manual gearbox, a conventional 13-litre fuel tank and touring equipment such as the announced GPS-mount carrier. The OLA Roadster Pro is the more relevant alternative for a buyer committed to electric riding, able to charge reliably and willing to confirm present availability, warranty and service before purchase. Neither is objectively better without those conditions; choose the one that fits your route and energy access, then validate the current price and support in your city.
