Bajaj lists upside-down forks, a slipper clutch, four ride modes, traction control, dual-channel ABS and a 13-litre tank for the current Dominar page. Those are manufacturer-listed features, not independent proof of comfort or long-distance performance, and you should confirm that the exact model-year variant at your dealer carries them.

Pick the Gixxer 250 when low weight is the decisive advantage
The Gixxer is the logical starting point for a rider who repeatedly filters through traffic, pushes the motorcycle into a tight parking space or wants less mass to manage at walking pace. Its cited comparison weight is substantially below the Dominar’s. That can improve confidence, but the result still depends on your height, strength, riding technique and the way each motorcycle carries its mass.
Do not decide from the horsepower line alone
The Dominar’s listed peak figures are slightly higher, yet a small paper advantage does not establish quicker acceleration, stronger overtaking or better fuel economy in every real-world situation. Traffic, gearing, rider weight, wind, tyre condition and maintenance all affect those outcomes. A back-to-back test ride is more useful than treating the specification sheet as a race result.
Key specifications at a glance
The table combines Bajaj’s current official specifications with the figures in Autocar India’s comparison. The Autocar article is a historical comparison, so treat the Gixxer entries as attributed reference data and verify the current Suzuki variant before purchase.

PS and hp are different rating conventions, so the two peak-power numbers should not be treated as a laboratory head-to-head measurement. The engine figures also occur at different engine speeds, which is why they cannot by themselves describe how either motorcycle feels in every gear.
Engine output: a narrow Dominar paper advantage
Bajaj’s official specification lists a 248.77cc liquid-cooled DOHC single making 27 PS at 8,500rpm and 23.5Nm at 6,500rpm. Those figures are attached to the current Dominar information published by Bajaj Auto; read the exact variant and market details on the linked page before comparing a showroom motorcycle.

Autocar India’s comparison lists the Gixxer 250 at 249cc, 26.5hp at 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7,300rpm. Because that article describes an earlier comparison, the numbers are useful for understanding the tested matchup but are not a guarantee that every current Gixxer carries identical calibration or equipment. Suzuki’s February 2023 brochure also warns that specifications and features may change without prior notice.
What the figures can and cannot tell you
- The Dominar has the higher listed peak power and torque in the cited material, but the margin is small.
- Peak output occurs at different engine speeds, so gearing and throttle response will influence acceleration more than a simple two-number ranking.
- Neither source establishes a controlled acceleration test, overtaking test or independent reliability result for these two motorcycles.
- A test ride should include a low-speed start, an urban roll-on and a higher-speed gear change so you can judge response without assuming the specification sheet predicts your experience.
Weight, seat height and everyday control
Autocar’s comparison lists the Dominar at 180kg kerb and the Gixxer at 156kg. Bajaj’s own specifications independently list the Dominar at 180kg. The cited comparison gives both motorcycles an 800mm seat height, so the distinction is not a lower saddle on the Gixxer; it is the amount of motorcycle you have to balance and redirect.
A lower mass can help when you are backing out of a sloped parking space, making a U-turn, recovering from a missed foot placement or holding the bike upright with luggage. It does not automatically mean the Gixxer will fit every rider better. Handlebar reach, tank width, peg position, suspension setup and where the weight sits can change the feel even when seat heights match.
Use your test ride to check fit
- Put both feet on the ground while seated in your normal riding boots; do not judge fit in sandals or unusually thick footwear.
- Turn the handlebar fully in each direction and check whether your knees, wrists or hips feel cramped.
- Walk each motorcycle backward without engine power. This reveals more about balance and parking effort than a short straight-line ride.
- Repeat a slow U-turn and a stop-start sequence with the fuel level and luggage arrangement you expect to use.
- Ask whether a passenger can climb on and whether your intended tail bag or pannier setup interferes with your posture.
These checks identify rider-specific comfort and control; seat height alone cannot establish either.
Touring equipment and variant checks
Bajaj’s product material describes the Dominar as a versatile sports-tourer built for performance and long-distance comfort. That is manufacturer positioning rather than an independently measured comfort finding. - Ride modes: Four selectable modes can give you different control responses, but you should ask the dealer to demonstrate what each mode changes on the supplied variant.
- Traction control: This is a rider aid, not a substitute for appropriate tyres, smooth throttle use or sensible speed on wet roads.
- Slipper clutch: It can reduce rear-wheel hop during aggressive downshifts, yet clutch feel and calibration still need to suit your hand.
- Upside-down forks: The hardware is listed by Bajaj; the presence of the component does not establish a particular ride quality without a controlled evaluation.
- Dual-channel ABS: Confirm the exact variant and understand that ABS cannot overcome insufficient grip or unsafe braking technique.
- 13-litre tank: Capacity is a touring convenience, not a promised distance between fuel stops; actual range depends on consumption and riding conditions.
The cited material does not provide a like-for-like Gixxer equipment inventory. Suzuki’s brochure is dated February 2023 and says specifications may change, so do not infer that a feature is present or absent on a current showroom motorcycle from an old comparison alone. Request the current variant sheet and inspect the motorcycle you will actually receive.

Price: why a dated local quote is essential
Price is not a safe tie-breaker from the available pages. Bajaj’s own Dominar product page displays ₹1,86,835 as a starting ex-showroom Delhi amount in one section and ₹1,78,062 in its FAQ. That unresolved inconsistency means neither figure should be treated as the definitive amount you will pay.
Comparison listings also change with their update date, city and assumptions. Instead of selecting a winner from a web headline, obtain written quotations for both motorcycles from dealers serving your registration address. Ask each dealer to separate the components so you can compare like for like:
- Ex-showroom price and the quotation date.
- Registration, road tax and handling charges for your state or union territory.
- Insurance provider, policy duration and add-ons.
- Mandatory accessories, extended warranty or service packages included in the quote.
- Delivery timing, manufacturing month and the exact model year or variant code.
Compare the final on-road totals, not a Delhi ex-showroom number against a different city’s all-in price. If a dealer cannot explain why its figure differs from the manufacturer’s page, pause the booking and ask for a revised, itemised quote.
Fuel economy: do not mistake unlike figures for a test
Available comparison pages attach different labels and sources to mileage numbers. One current listing presents user-reported mileage, while another presents a claimed figure. Those are not equivalent measurements, and neither establishes a controlled, comparable test between the Dominar and Gixxer.

For a meaningful ownership estimate, record your own fuel use after delivery using the same calculation for both motorcycles if you can borrow or rent them. Fill the tank to the same point, reset the trip meter, ride a representative mix of your commute and open-road trips, then refill and divide kilometres travelled by litres added. Keep tyre pressures, luggage, passenger load and route conditions in your notes. Treat the result as your use case, not a universal guarantee.

Mostly urban commuting
The Gixxer is the first one to test if your week consists of congested streets, frequent stops and tight parking. Its lower cited mass should reduce the effort of repeated low-speed manoeuvres. Check engine heat, clutch effort, mirror visibility and the reach to the ground during the ride; those practical details can outweigh a specification advantage.
Weekend highway touring
The Dominar is the more natural paper fit when touring equipment, a larger listed tank and a substantial chassis are priorities. Verify that the current variant includes the features advertised by Bajaj, then assess wind protection, vibration, seat pressure and luggage mounting in a sustained ride. The manufacturer description of long-distance comfort is a positioning statement, not a measured result.
Mixed use with occasional touring
For a 70:30 commute-to-tour split, decide which compromise you will notice every day. The Gixxer may make daily movement easier; the Dominar may reduce the temptation to add touring hardware later. Price both motorcycles with the accessories you genuinely need, because a cheaper base motorcycle can lose its advantage after racks, protection and luggage are added.

Two-up riding
Take the intended passenger on the test ride if the dealer permits it. Ask the passenger about knee angle, grab points, seat movement and getting on and off. Do not use equal seat-height figures as proof that two-up comfort is equal; pillion shape, cushioning and suspension response are not established by the cited specifications.

New or returning riders
Prioritise controllability over a small peak-output difference. Practise slow turns, emergency stops and hill starts on each motorcycle in a safe area. If one machine feels easier to correct after a minor mistake, that confidence can be worth more than an extra figure in a brochure.
A practical back-to-back test-ride plan
Book rides close together so traffic and weather are broadly comparable. Bring the helmet, jacket and footwear you normally use; changing gear can change your reach and posture.
- Static fit: Check both feet, knee clearance, wrist angle and the position of the controls while stationary.
- Start and clutch: Perform several starts on level ground and, where legal and safe, on a mild incline. Note throttle smoothness and clutch take-up.
- Low-speed control: Ride at walking pace, make a U-turn and stop with one foot down. Observe how much effort each motorcycle needs to hold a line.
- Urban response: Use second and third gear through normal traffic. Notice whether the engine responds cleanly without excessive clutch slipping.
- Open-road section: If the route allows, perform a legal roll-on and one controlled overtake. Judge stability and wind behaviour, not top speed.
- Braking: Make progressive stops, then one firm stop in a clear area. Confirm lever reach and ABS behaviour without deliberately provoking a dangerous situation.
- After-ride check: Write down heat, vibration, seat pressure, mirror view and any contact points before riding the second motorcycle, so memory does not favour the last ride.
Questions to settle with the dealer before booking
- What exact model year, variant code and colour will be delivered?
- Which features listed on the manufacturer’s page are fitted to that specific motorcycle?
- What is the quotation date, and which charges are included in the on-road total?
- What are the service intervals, warranty terms and roadside-assistance terms for your market?
- Can the dealer show the manufacturing month, tyre dates and vehicle identification number at delivery?
- Is a passenger test ride or a second ride available before the booking becomes non-refundable?
These checks matter because the Gixxer comparison data is historical, Suzuki’s brochure allows specification changes, and Bajaj’s page currently shows conflicting ex-showroom amounts. A written answer tied to the motorcycle’s VIN and invoice is more reliable than a generic web listing.
Verdict: choose the trade-off you will live with
Buy the Bajaj Dominar 250 if your shortlist is led by manufacturer-listed touring equipment, a 13-litre tank and the slightly higher cited peak-output figures, and you are comfortable managing its greater mass. Buy the Suzuki Gixxer 250 if everyday maneuverability and lower weight are more important than touring-oriented equipment listed for the Dominar.
Neither choice is proven superior for reliability, real-world comfort, acceleration or fuel economy by the cited material. Confirm the current Gixxer specification, obtain dated local on-road prices for both, and complete a back-to-back ride with your normal gear and passenger plan. That process will produce a more defensible choice than declaring a universal winner from a specification table.
