Bajaj describes the Dominar 250 as an entry sport-tourer and a long-distance motorcycle. That positioning fits a buyer who expects weekend rides, luggage or navigation equipment and a more upright, distance-focused brief. The 2025 update added a redesigned handlebar and a carrier that provides for a GPS mount, which are practical provisions for that use.

Those are manufacturer descriptions and equipment claims, not an independent finding that the Dominar is more comfortable or handles better over distance. Seat comfort, wind protection, vibration and suspension response still depend on the rider, road and setup.
Karizma XMR: a fully faired sports-bike alternative
Hero markets the Karizma XMR as a sports bike. Its fully faired bodywork, TFT cluster, projector headlamp, USB fast charging and six-speed gearbox appeal to a rider who values a sportier visual and riding format. Fairing coverage can change wind exposure, but the cited specifications do not establish a comparative highway-comfort result.
Think of the two models as different starting points rather than direct substitutes: one is configured around touring intent, while the other is presented as a sports motorcycle. Your posture preference and typical roads should carry more weight than the badge.
Engine and claimed performance
What the published figures show
The Dominar has the larger displacement and the higher stated peak torque. Its torque peak is also listed at a lower engine speed than the Karizma’s. On paper, that gives the Bajaj a stronger numerical case for a relaxed, torque-focused brief.
The Karizma’s published peak power is lower than the Dominar’s, and it arrives at a higher engine speed. That describes where each manufacturer records its maximum; it does not tell you how quickly either bike accelerates, how flexible it feels in a high gear, or how much vibration reaches the rider.
Why peak numbers cannot decide the race
- Acceleration depends on gearing, kerb weight, traction, aerodynamics, rider input and the condition of the test motorcycle.
- Usable roll-on performance depends on the whole torque curve, not only the peak value.
- Highway comfort also depends on cruising rpm, seat and handlebar position, wind protection and suspension tuning.
- Fuel consumption is not established by the cited manufacturer pages, so do not use a mileage number from an unverified listing to choose between them.
Use the figures to shortlist the bikes, then perform identical test-ride checks: pull away in traffic, hold a steady higher-speed section where legal, make a few controlled overtakes and note vibration, clutch effort and gear spacing. Do not treat that short ride as a certified performance test, but it will reveal whether the engine character suits you.
Equipment and electronics: where the choices diverge
Dominar’s 2025 touring provisions
Bajaj’s 4 July 2025 release identifies a bonded-glass speedometer, redesigned handlebar and a carrier with GPS-mount provision. The same release lists four ABS ride modes for the Dominar 250 with a mechanical throttle body. The carrier is a provision for mounting navigation hardware; it does not automatically include a GPS unit or a phone, so confirm what the dealer supplies.

Bajaj’s launch release quoted ₹1,91,654 ex-showroom Delhi for the Dominar 250. That is historical launch context, not the current price. The live product-page figure in the table is the one to use for a present-day Delhi comparison.
Karizma XMR’s published feature list
Hero lists a TFT instrument cluster, projector headlamp, dual-channel ABS, petal discs and USB fast charging for the Karizma XMR. These features are useful if clear instrumentation, charging on the move and the listed lighting design matter to you.
Manufacturers can change equipment by model year, colour, market or trim. Before paying a booking amount, photograph the exact motorcycle and ask the dealer to put every promised item on the quotation. Confirm whether a charger, navigation bracket, luggage carrier or other accessory is standard, optional or dealer-fitted.
Braking and rider safety
Both motorcycles are listed with dual-channel ABS. The Dominar’s update adds selectable ABS ride modes in Bajaj’s description. Hero specifies 320 mm front and 230 mm rear petal discs for the Karizma XMR. These are hardware and control-system specifications, not measured stopping distances.
On your test ride, check whether the brake lever is easy to modulate, whether the rear brake engages progressively and whether the ABS intervention feels predictable on a clean, dry surface. Never disable a safety system on public roads to compare it. Inspect tyre condition and pressure on a demonstration bike because they can materially change braking feel.
Price: compare the bill you will actually pay
Dominar reference price
Bajaj’s current Dominar 250 product page lists ₹1,86,835 ex-showroom Delhi. Ex-showroom price excludes registration, insurance, road tax, handling or other dealer charges, and it applies to that stated city. It is not an on-road quote for every Indian state.
Karizma XMR pricing
Hero’s current product page tells buyers to obtain the exact price from a local showroom rather than publishing a single comparable on-road figure. You therefore cannot calculate a fair price winner from the two pages alone.

How to request comparable quotes
- Ask both dealers for a written on-road quotation for the same city and the same purchase date.
- Require separate lines for ex-showroom price, registration or road tax, insurance, accessories, extended warranty and every dealer fee.
- Ask whether the quote is for an in-stock current-year motorcycle and record the manufacturing month.
- Compare the final payable amount, loan interest and mandatory add-ons separately; a low monthly instalment can hide a higher total cost.
- Recheck the quote immediately before delivery because prices and tax calculations can change.
Do not merge the Dominar’s historical launch figure with its current page price, and do not present either figure as a nationwide on-road price.

This framework intentionally avoids declaring a universal winner. A rider who spends most of the year in urban traffic may value manageable ergonomics and heat behaviour more than touring provisions. Someone carrying navigation and luggage may reach the opposite conclusion. Neither use case is proven by engine displacement alone.
A closer look at the specification trade-offs
The 38.77 cc displacement gap is meaningful as a description of engine size, but it is not a guarantee that the Dominar will feel faster in every situation. The Dominar’s listed 23.5 Nm arrives at 6,500 rpm, while the Karizma’s 20.4 Nm is listed at 7,250 rpm. That difference may influence how you plan gear changes, yet only a back-to-back ride can show how each engine responds at the speeds and gears you actually use.
Likewise, the Dominar’s 27 PS peak is recorded at 8,500 rpm and the Karizma’s 25.5 PS at 9,250 rpm. These are maximum-output points, not a complete map of the engine. Ask the salesperson whether a demonstration motorcycle is fully run in, check that both tyres are correctly inflated and repeat the same route on each bike. Avoid comparing a cool morning ride on one motorcycle with a hot, congested afternoon ride on the other.
The transmission information is also not symmetrical in the published material. Hero explicitly lists a constant-mesh six-speed gearbox. For the Dominar, confirm the current variant’s specification sheet before assuming the same gear count or ratios. Gear count alone does not reveal cruising rpm, shift quality or overtaking response.

Questions to settle with the dealer
- Is the displayed motorcycle the exact model year, colour and trim being invoiced?
- Are the Dominar’s four ABS ride modes enabled on the delivered bike, and how are they selected?
- Does the GPS carrier come with the motorcycle, and is the mount hardware included or separately priced?
- For the Karizma, is the TFT cluster, USB fast-charging socket, projector lamp and petal-disc setup standard on this trim?
- What is the manufacturing month, and how long has the motorcycle been in stock?
- Which accessories are factory supplied, which are dealer fitted and which affect warranty coverage?
- What documents will show the service schedule, roadside assistance and warranty exclusions?
- Can the dealer provide the final insurance premium and registration amount separately from optional accessories?
Write the answers into the quotation or an email. Verbal assurances are difficult to verify later, especially when a feature changes between model years or when a dealer uses a higher trim for the test ride.
A practical test-ride and purchase checklist
Before the ride
- Confirm the exact model year, trim, colour and manufacturing date.
- Set the controls while wearing the jacket and footwear you normally ride in.
- Check that both feet, or your preferred one-foot stance, feel secure at a stop.
- Inspect the display, warning lights, switchgear, USB socket and any claimed accessory.
During the ride
- Start in stop-and-go traffic to assess clutch weight, throttle response, steering effort and heat.
- Ride over a representative broken surface at a safe speed and note suspension control and body movement.
- Use several gears at ordinary road speeds; listen for vibration and check whether the engine feels strained.
- Make progressive braking tests in a clear area, allowing the ABS to work normally.
- Take a passenger if you regularly carry one and check pillion space, grab points and balance.
- Mount your phone or navigation device only with a secure, compatible holder; do not obscure the instrument panel.
After the ride
- Write down the seat-to-handlebar reach, wrist angle and knee bend while they are fresh.
- Ask for a service schedule, estimated labour and consumables, warranty exclusions and roadside-assistance terms.
- Check parts and service availability in your actual city rather than assuming a national network guarantees quick support.
- Match the written quotation to the motorcycle you rode; dealers sometimes use a different trim for demonstrations.
Ownership questions the specifications do not answer
The cited pages do not establish comparative mileage, real-world comfort, handling, service cost, resale value or city-level availability. Treat those as purchase checks, not settled facts.

Service and consumables
Ask each dealer for the scheduled service intervals and a line-item estimate for engine oil, filters, brake pads, chain work and labour. Request the price of common crash-damage parts if you ride in crowded traffic. A written estimate is more useful than a generic claim that one model is cheaper to maintain.
Availability and delivery
Confirm the stock location, production month, registration eligibility and expected delivery date. A motorcycle that is technically attractive but unavailable in your city can force expensive transport or an unwanted variant.
