Neither scooter is universally better. The Chetak is electric, while the Vespa ZX 125 is a petrol scooter. Your better choice depends on whether you can charge where you park, how far you ride, which exact Chetak and ZX variants are available, and the complete local purchase and service cost.
For a concrete starting point, the Chetak C2501’s official listing quotes a 2.5 kWh battery, 113 km claimed range and 60 km/h top speed. Vespa places the ZX in its 125 cc petrol range. Those figures describe different energy systems and are not a controlled, like-for-like road-test result.

Quick verdict: which scooter suits which rider?
| Choose this direction | It makes sense when… | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Bajaj Chetak C2501 or another suitable Chetak variant | You have dependable charging at home or work, prefer quiet electric running, and the named variant’s claimed range and speed cover your routine. | Exact battery and performance specification, charger arrangement, local electricity supply, dealer support and the on-road quotation. |
| Vespa ZX 125 | You want a conventional 125 cc petrol scooter, need quick refuelling, or local Vespa service and pricing fit your ownership plans better. | Exact ZX trim, current technical specification, fuel economy expectation, service location and itemised on-road price. |
| Neither yet | Your commute is close to the stated limit, charging is uncertain, or the dealer cannot clearly identify the variant and total cost. | Arrange a test ride and obtain comparable written quotes before deciding. |
This is a decision between two different operating routines rather than a simple electric-versus-petrol score. A scooter that is theoretically cheaper or faster can be the wrong purchase if it cannot be charged, serviced or comfortably ridden in your area.

Chetak is a family, not one fixed specification
Bajaj Auto’s current product pages show several Chetak offerings, including C2501, Series 30 and Series 35. Battery capacities and performance claims vary across that family. Quoting a generic “Bajaj Chetak range” without naming the variant can therefore give a buyer the wrong expectation.

ZX is a Vespa model within a grouped 125-series table
Vespa India identifies the ZX as part of its 125 cc range. Its current technical table combines more than one Vespa model family, so a number shown in that table must be checked against the exact ZX variant sold by your dealer. Registration documents, the quotation and the scooter’s specification sheet should all use the same variant name.
Key specifications, with the important qualifications
Bajaj Chetak C2501
| Item | C2501 figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | Electric | Energy comes from a rechargeable battery rather than petrol. |
| Battery | 2.5 kWh | Chetak/Bajaj Auto product-page specification for C2501. |
| Claimed range | 113 km | Manufacturer claim for this configuration; not a guaranteed distance in every riding condition. |
| Top speed | 60 km/h | Manufacturer claim for C2501. |
| Under-seat storage | 25 litres | Manufacturer-listed boot capacity. |
| Seat height | 763 mm | Check reach to the ground in person, especially with a passenger. |
| Listed price | ₹99,802 ex-showroom, Bengaluru | Price shown on the product page at retrieval; it is not an all-India or on-road price. |
The 113 km figure is a claimed range, not a promise that every rider will cover that distance. Speed, passenger load, gradients, tyre pressure, traffic and temperature can all alter usable distance. Treat the claim as a starting specification and retain a practical reserve for an unexpected detour.

| Item | Vespa 125-series figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | Petrol | Vespa’s ZX is positioned in its 125 cc petrol range. |
| Displacement | 124.45 cc | From Vespa India’s 125-series technical table; confirm that the dealer’s ZX variant uses this specification. |
| Maximum power | 7.0 kW at 7,100 rpm | Grouped 125-series table value; verify exact model application. |
| Maximum torque | 10.1 Nm at 5,600 rpm | Grouped 125-series table value; verify exact model application. |
| Fuel tank | 7.4 litres | Grouped 125-series table value. |
| Seat height | 770 mm | Grouped 125-series table value; physical reach matters more than a seven-millimetre difference on paper. |
| Claimed mileage | 45 kmpl | Figure reported by ZigWheels on its comparison page, updated October 13, 2026; it is a secondary-source claim, not a controlled comparison test. |
Do not use the Vespa table as proof that every ZX trim has identical power, torque, tank or equipment. Ask the dealer to identify the engine and variant code on the quotation before comparing it with a Chetak C2501.
Range and mileage are different measurements
An electric scooter’s range is distance per charge. A petrol scooter’s mileage is distance per litre. The units cannot be ranked directly: 113 km of claimed electric range is not “better mileage” than 45 kmpl, and 45 kmpl does not describe how far a full tank will take you without knowing tank capacity and actual usage.

- Smart APP Control & Lightweight Foldable E Scooter:Pair the scooter with smart APP to lock device, monitor battery level, view ride stats and adjust speed modes easily. Lightweight foldable design makes it easy to carry and store for daily use.
For a fair running-cost comparison, record four local inputs:
- Your typical monthly kilometres, including a realistic allowance for errands.
- The electricity tariff applied to the meter used for charging, including slab or time-of-use effects.
- The petrol price at the stations you normally use.
- Consumption observed for the exact variant, rather than a number copied from another model or test condition.
Then calculate electricity consumed from the scooter’s measured energy use and petrol consumed from actual kilometres per litre. Neither the manufacturer pages nor the comparison listings establish a common, independently measured ownership-cost figure for these two scooters, so a single claimed “annual saving” would be misleading.

Charging versus refuelling in daily use
When the Chetak routine works
Electric ownership is convenient when the scooter returns to a place with a reliable socket or approved charging setup every day. Decide where it will be parked overnight, who controls that electrical connection, and whether apartment or workplace rules permit charging. A buyer who cannot consistently charge may lose the main practical benefit of the Chetak even if the purchase price looks attractive.
Bajaj Auto’s FY2025–26 annual-report discussion of the C25 configuration states a full charge in less than four hours with a 750 W charger, along with 113 km claimed range and 19% gradeability with a double seat. Those statements apply to the C25 configuration described in that report, not automatically to C2501 or every Chetak. Obtain the charger rating and charging-time statement for the exact scooter on your quotation.
When petrol is the simpler routine
The Vespa’s petrol tank can be replenished at a fuel station instead of waiting for a battery charge. That can matter for riders with no secure charging point, frequent unscheduled trips or a commute that regularly exceeds their comfortable electric reserve. It also means accepting fuel-price changes, engine servicing and the need to keep the tank supplied.

Questions to ask before choosing electric
- Where will the scooter be parked for most charging sessions?
- Is the socket available exclusively to you, and is the circuit suitable for the quoted charger?
- What happens if you return with a low battery after the building or workplace closes?
- Does the dealer include the charger, cable, installation work or any separate fee?
- What battery, charger and roadside-support terms are written in the current warranty documents?
Performance, traffic and passenger use
The C2501’s listed 60 km/h top speed is suited to urban travel where traffic flows at moderate speeds. A rider whose route includes fast multi-lane roads should test whether that limit leaves adequate margin for merging and overtaking. Do not assume that a different Chetak variant has the same limit.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Vespa’s 125 cc petrol format gives the rider a familiar throttle-and-refuelling experience and may suit routes where sustained higher urban speeds are common. The published power and torque values need confirmation for the exact ZX trim because the official table groups model families. A short ride with the intended passenger is more informative than comparing a brochure number alone.
Grade, load and stop-start traffic affect both scooters. Carrying a passenger, climbing a flyover or riding with low tyre pressure can change acceleration and energy or fuel consumption. Test the route that matters: include a hill, a tight turn, a speed breaker and the road surface you use daily.
Seat height, storage and everyday practicality
The C2501 page lists a 763 mm seat height and 25-litre boot. The Vespa 125-series table lists a 770 mm seat height and a 7.4-litre fuel tank. The seven-millimetre paper difference does not predict comfort by itself: seat width, floorboard shape, handlebar position, suspension response and your footwear affect reach and confidence.
During a showroom visit, check whether your helmet and daily bag fit without forcing the seat shut. Sit in your normal riding posture, turn the handlebar fully both ways, place both feet down, and ask a passenger to sit behind you. Confirm that the storage volume and opening shape work with the objects you actually carry rather than relying only on the litre figure.

Price: compare the same basis in the same city
The C2501 product page showed ₹99,802 ex-showroom in Bengaluru when retrieved on October 13, 2026. That number excludes items that can materially change the amount you pay on the road. A comparison listing from ZigWheels provides its own dated snapshot for the Chetak and Vespa, while another update dated September 14, 2026 illustrates that prices can diverge by variant and timing. The numerical Vespa price is not established consistently across those snapshots.
Use a written quote with these fields completed:
| Quote line | Why it belongs in the comparison |
|---|---|
| Exact model and variant | Prevents a C2501, another Chetak, and a different ZX trim being treated as one product. |
| Ex-showroom price | Separates the vehicle’s base price from registration and other charges. |
| Registration and road tax | Varies by state and vehicle category. |
| Insurance | Premium and coverage can differ between quotes. |
| Accessories and charger work | Shows whether equipment or installation has been added to the headline price. |
| Discounts or incentives | Records whether an offer is current, conditional or tied to financing. |
| Finance assumptions | Reveals down payment, interest, tenure and processing charges. |
| Final on-road total | Provides the number that can actually be compared between dealers. |
Ask both dealers for the same city, purchase date, insurance scope and financing assumptions. If one quote includes a charger, registration package or accessories and the other does not, the lower headline price is not a fair result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Service and support checks
Before booking either scooter, map the nearest authorised service location and ask how routine appointments are handled. For the electric option, ask who diagnoses charging or battery faults and how roadside assistance operates when the battery is low. For the petrol option, ask for the service intervals, consumables and expected waiting time for parts.
Manufacturer websites provide product-discovery and test-ride routes, but a web form is not proof that a particular city has immediate stock or workshop capacity. Call the named dealer, request the variant in writing and save the quotation and warranty documents.
A test-ride plan that exposes the important differences
- Set the controls. Adjust mirrors and confirm that you can operate the brakes and indicators without stretching.
- Check low-speed balance. Ride at walking pace, make a tight U-turn and stop with both feet ready.
- Try a normal launch. Note throttle response, smoothness and whether the scooter feels predictable with a passenger.
- Use a hill or ramp. Compare confidence under load rather than judging only a flat showroom road.
- Test braking progressively. Make a gentle stop, then a firmer stop where safe; feel for controllability and reach.
- Ride over your usual surface. Include potholes, speed breakers and rough patches to evaluate suspension and steering.
- Recheck fit after ten minutes. Look for wrist, knee, hip or lower-back strain that was not obvious at first sitting.
- Inspect storage and charging or fuel access. Open the boot, locate the charging connection or fuel filler and verify that your routine is practical.
No independent, like-for-like road test was identified for these two exact scooters. A dealer ride can reveal personal fit and controls, but it is not evidence that one model delivers a universal real-world range or mileage advantage.

Decision paths for common riders
Short, predictable city commute with parking power
Start with the Chetak variant whose stated range leaves a reserve beyond your round trip. Confirm that charging is available every night and that the C2501’s speed is appropriate for your roads. Compare the complete local quote, not only the ex-showroom figure.
Apartment resident without a dedicated socket
Do not select an electric scooter until the building manager or landlord confirms a dependable charging arrangement. If that cannot be secured, the Vespa’s fuel-station routine may be less disruptive, subject to service and running-cost checks.
Frequent, unplanned trips
Petrol refuelling can reduce planning when journeys change during the day. An electric option can still work if you have reliable opportunity charging and sufficient reserve, but verify the actual charger access rather than assuming a public point will always be free.

Rider focused on quiet operation
The Chetak’s electric powertrain avoids engine noise and fuel stops during normal use. Check charging, battery support and the exact variant before treating that benefit as decisive.
Rider who prioritises familiar petrol servicing
The Vespa’s 125 cc format may feel more familiar if your local workshop network and refuelling habits are already established. Confirm the exact ZX specification and obtain a service-cost explanation from the dealer.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
- Comparing a model family with one trim: write “Chetak C2501” or the exact Series 30/35 variant on every note.
- Calling claimed range guaranteed range: maintain a reserve and validate the route on a test ride.
- Equating kmpl with kilometres per charge: compare local energy and fuel inputs using the same monthly distance.
- Using an ex-showroom figure as the final price: demand an itemised on-road quotation.
- Assuming grouped Vespa data is ZX-specific: have the dealer confirm displacement, power, torque, tank and equipment for the exact trim.
- Ignoring passenger use: test with the load and roads you actually face.
- Buying before checking support: locate the workshop, ask about roadside assistance and keep warranty terms with the invoice.
Basic rider equipment
Whichever scooter you choose, budget for a properly fitting scooter helmet and confirm the safety standard and legal requirements that apply where you ride. Try the helmet with your usual eyewear, fasten the strap, and replace it after a serious impact. The accessory is not model-specific, and no particular listing, price or stock status is established here.
Quick Recap
Final buying sequence
- Choose the exact Chetak and Vespa variants you are considering.
- Measure your normal daily distance and identify a realistic reserve.
- Confirm charging access or fuel-station convenience for your parking location.
- Take both scooters on a route containing your typical traffic, hills and surfaces.
- Check seat reach, passenger comfort, boot access and braking feel.
- Obtain equivalent written on-road quotes in your city, including all fees, offers and finance assumptions.
- Verify service location, warranty coverage and the dealer’s delivery specification before paying a booking amount.
