There is no universal winner. Choose the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 if your priority is a low, relaxed cruiser layout and the extra engine capacity, provided you can locate a suitable remaining-stock or used motorcycle. Choose the Suzuki Gixxer if you want a lighter naked street-bike format and are comfortable with a substantially taller seat.
Availability changes the decision immediately: Bajaj’s current Avenger range labels the Street 220 a “Discontinued Bike,” even though its product and specification pages remain online. Treat a new example as uncertain and ask a dealer whether a motorcycle is old stock; otherwise, you are probably comparing used bikes. Suzuki continues to present the Gixxer as a naked street motorcycle. Confirm the exact model year, condition and local on-road quotation before paying a deposit.

First, identify the exact motorcycles
This comparison is between the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 and the naked Suzuki Gixxer. It is not a comparison with the faired Gixxer SF. Suzuki’s product material describes the Gixxer as a naked street bike and the SF as fully faired; fairing, riding wind protection and bodywork therefore differ substantially. Check the registration documents and photographs so a seller does not substitute an SF for the motorcycle you intended to inspect. The Suzuki model family is shown on the manufacturer’s product page at Suzuki Motorcycle India.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Avenger situation needs equal care. Bajaj’s current Avenger range page marks the Street 220 as discontinued, while the individual product page and specification page are still accessible. A live web page is not proof that a factory-fresh unit is available in your city. Ask for the manufacturing month, warranty status, odometer reading and transfer history if the bike is used.

Published specifications side by side
The following figures come from the manufacturers’ product information. They are specification-sheet values, not the result of a common road test. Power and torque figures should not be treated as guaranteed acceleration or top-speed results.

Which one is easier to fit?
Avenger: the low-seat choice
The Avenger’s published 737 mm seat is 58 mm lower than the Gixxer’s 795 mm seat. That difference can make stopping, backing into a parking space and placing both feet near the ground less intimidating for a shorter rider. It remains a screening measurement rather than a promise: inseam length, seat width, suspension sag, footwear and the way you naturally lean the bike all change the actual reach.

Its product description says the motorcycle has “premium low-slung, wide seats and street-control handlebars for a relaxed riding posture,” and says the cushioned backrest is intended to support rider and pillion comfort on longer rides. That is manufacturer positioning, not an independent comfort test; sit on the motorcycle long enough to check whether the wide cushion supports your hips and whether the handlebar leaves your wrists neutral. The description appears on Bajaj’s Avenger page.

Gixxer: a taller naked-bike stance
At 795 mm, the Gixxer saddle asks for more leg extension at a stop. Riders with a longer inseam may appreciate that extra height when moving the motorcycle between corners, while riders who prefer a flat-footed stop may need to slide forward on the seat or accept a one-foot-down technique. Do not judge fit from seat height alone: a narrow front section can be easier to reach than a wider seat with the same published dimension.
The naked configuration leaves the rider in a conventional street-bike position rather than the Avenger’s feet-forward cruiser arrangement. Handlebar reach, knee bend and the relationship between your torso and the tank are personal; a five-minute showroom sit is more informative than a specification number. Check full-lock steering clearance, brake-lever reach and whether your knees contact the tank naturally.
Engine output: what the numbers support
The Avenger has the larger 220 cc engine and higher listed peak figures: 19.03 PS and 17.55 Nm, compared with the Gixxer’s 13.6 PS and 13.8 Nm. The peaks occur at different engine speeds, so comparing the numbers requires keeping both the unit and rpm in view. The Avenger’s published maximum power is at 8,500 rpm and maximum torque at 7,000 rpm; Suzuki lists the Gixxer’s maxima at 8,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm respectively.

Those figures establish a paper advantage in output, not a measured winner in traffic. Acceleration depends on gearing, throttle calibration, rider and passenger load, tyre condition, road gradient, wind and launch technique. No directly comparable test result is established here, so it would be misleading to promise a particular 0–60 time, overtaking margin or top speed. Use a legal, supervised test ride to assess clutch take-up, low-speed response and whether the engine’s useful pull arrives where you ride.

Transmission information
Suzuki’s listed transmission is a 5-speed manual. Before publishing or relying on a gear-count comparison for the Avenger, verify the exact Bajaj specification listing for the motorcycle and model year you are buying; older used examples can differ from later documents. During inspection, check that every gear selects cleanly, the clutch engages without excessive slip and the chain does not produce harsh drive lash when you close the throttle.
Weight and low-speed control
Bajaj lists the Avenger at 160 kg, while Suzuki’s brochure gives the naked Gixxer a 141 kg kerb mass. The 19 kg difference can matter when you push a motorcycle out of a parking slot, catch it during a slow U-turn or load it onto a stand. It does not, by itself, prove that the Gixxer handles better at speed or that the Avenger is unwieldy; chassis geometry, tyre profiles, suspension condition and weight distribution also influence control.
For apartment ramps and crowded streets, practise walking each motorcycle with the engine off. Turn the handlebar to the position you would use in your own parking space, check whether you can reach the grab points, and see how much effort is required to lift the bike from the side stand. A lighter motorcycle may be easier to correct after a small balance error, but a confident rider can adapt to either mass.
Daily commuting, longer rides and pillion use
Urban commuting
The Avenger’s low seat and cruiser layout favour riders who value an easy stop-and-go posture over a compact, upright naked-bike feel. Its extra engine capacity may be attractive when carrying a passenger or climbing a grade, but the specification sheet cannot tell you how the clutch, heat management or fuelling feel in your particular traffic conditions.

- Buyer's Guide: The seat guard for car seat between seat & console measures 15.75*2.7*1.53", suitable for gaps of 1.43-1.53" in width, please double-check carefully the distance between your seat and the center console before placing an order

- Avoid Items Slipping: With the bumps and vibrations of the car, phones, keys may fall into the seat crevices, which is difficult to pick up, and distracts the driver's attention. Car gap seat filler fills gaps seamlessly to create an effective barrier
- Easy to Install: Car side seat gap filler is easy to install, simply insert it into the gap between the seat and the center console, gap seat filler for car can fit tightly without affecting the normal adjustment of the seat and the use of the seat belt
- Premium Material: Crafted from premium EVA material, our car seat side gap filler boasts a combination of wear-resistant, softness&durability. Maintenance is effortless, simply rinse and wipe to quickly clean the dust and debris in corners and crevices
The Gixxer’s lower stated mass can be useful in dense traffic, narrow parking spaces and repeated direction changes. Its taller seat is not a disadvantage for every rider; some commuters prefer the greater leg extension and a more conventional street-bike relationship with the controls. Decide by your route and body proportions rather than by engine displacement alone.
Longer rides
Bajaj explicitly markets the Avenger’s relaxed posture and cushioned backrest for rider and pillion comfort, including longer journeys. Treat that as a design intention and then verify it with your passenger: check footrest position, grab-rail security, helmet clearance and whether the backrest places the pillion comfortably without forcing an upright slouch.
The naked Gixxer has no full fairing. Wind exposure, seat support and vibration at your usual cruising speed should therefore be evaluated in person. Do not infer highway comfort, top-speed stability or fatigue levels solely from the displacement or peak-power figures supplied above.
Fuel economy
There is no verified, like-for-like fuel-economy test in the cited manufacturer material and comparison source. Avoid declaring a mileage winner. If consumption is important, record fuel used over several tanks on the exact year and variant, or compare owner reports that identify riding conditions, traffic, tyre pressures and passenger load. A single dashboard average or an unspecified online claim is not an equivalent test.

Price, registration and availability
Do not compare a historical listing price with a current showroom quotation as though they were the same transaction. Bajaj’s page shows a Delhi ex-showroom figure while the range page labels the Street 220 discontinued. Suzuki publishes location-specific ex-showroom prices, including an East Delhi page. Ex-showroom cost excludes or may be followed by registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, handling charges and dealer discounts; on-road totals also vary by state and date.
Request a written quotation that identifies the city, model year, manufacturing month, ex-showroom amount, registration and insurance components, warranty terms and any discount. For an Avenger, ask whether the motorcycle is unsold old stock, a demonstrator or a used vehicle. A low headline price can be offset by an expired warranty, aged tyres, a replacement battery or difficulty obtaining model-specific parts.
Used Avenger inspection points
- Match the frame and engine numbers to the registration certificate and seller’s identity.
- Inspect the date codes and cracking on both tyres; a low odometer reading does not make old rubber safe.
- Look for fork-seal leakage, bent levers, scraped bar ends and uneven handlebar alignment that could indicate a fall.
- Start the engine cold if possible and listen for abnormal rattles, exhaust smoke or unstable idle.
- Check charging voltage, battery age, brake-pad thickness, chain adjustment and service invoices.
- Confirm that the seller can demonstrate a clean gear change and that the motorcycle tracks straight under gentle braking.
New or used Gixxer checks
- Verify that the motorcycle is the naked Gixxer, not the fully faired SF, using the registration record and bodywork.
- Confirm the exact model year because equipment, colours and published figures can vary by market and update.
- Read the complete on-road quotation and separate compulsory charges from optional accessories.
- Check the service schedule, warranty start date and whether the odometer reading is consistent with delivery records.
Which bike is better for each type of rider?
Choose the Avenger when these priorities dominate
- You specifically want a cruiser-styled, low-slung motorcycle rather than a conventional naked-bike posture.
- A 737 mm published seat gives you a better starting point for confident stops, subject to an actual test fit.
- You value the Avenger’s higher listed peak power and torque and understand that the figures do not guarantee faster real-world performance.
- You have found a mechanically sound example with clear ownership records, a fair local price and support for maintenance despite the discontinued status.
Choose the Gixxer when these priorities dominate
- You prefer the lighter naked street-bike format and the control layout that comes with it.
- The 795 mm seat suits your inseam, or you are comfortable using a one-foot-down stop.
- You want to buy through a current Suzuki dealer quotation rather than search for discontinued stock.
- You will spend much of your time in traffic where lower stated kerb mass can make parking and slow manoeuvres less demanding.
Do not choose on one specification alone
Displacement, seat height and kerb mass answer different questions. The 220 cc Avenger is not automatically the better commuter, just as the lighter Gixxer is not automatically the better-handling motorcycle. Match the motorcycle to your body, route, passenger needs and ability to obtain a documented, serviceable example. If two bikes fit equally well, then compare the written on-road totals and the condition of the specific units rather than relying on old internet prices.

- Confirm identity. Write down the exact model name, variant, model year and registration number. For the Suzuki, explicitly confirm “Gixxer” naked rather than “Gixxer SF.”
- Check availability. Ask a Bajaj dealer whether the Avenger is old stock, demonstrator or unavailable. Ask Suzuki for a current city-specific Gixxer quotation.
- Measure your fit. Sit in normal riding footwear, place both feet where you would at a stop, turn the bars fully and check reach to the clutch, brake and switches.
- Perform a static control test. Walk the bike, raise it from the side stand, reverse it and make a slow simulated U-turn. Stop if the weight or reach feels beyond your confidence.
- Ride the route you actually use. Include a start from rest, traffic-speed turns, braking, a rough section and a stretch at your normal legal cruising speed. Evaluate control and fatigue, not a claimed performance number.
- Inspect condition. On a used motorcycle, examine tyres, brakes, chain, suspension, steering bearings, lights, electrical equipment and service records. Arrange an independent mechanical inspection if you cannot assess these items.
- Compare complete costs. Put ex-showroom, registration, insurance, tax, accessories, immediate repairs and transfer fees in separate lines. Do not compare an ex-showroom figure with another bike’s on-road total.
- Verify paperwork before payment. Check the registration certificate, insurance, loan clearance, identity documents, chassis and engine numbers, warranty status and any outstanding fines or service campaigns.
Bottom-line decision
For a rider seeking the lowest, most cruiser-oriented seating position and the Avenger’s higher published output, the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 is the logical fit only when a well-documented example is available. Its discontinued status makes condition, paperwork and local support central to the purchase. For a rider who wants a lighter naked street motorcycle and is comfortable with a 795 mm seat, the Suzuki Gixxer is the safer format choice to investigate through a current dealer quotation. Sit on both, ride both where possible and decide using the exact bike’s condition and on-road cost—not a stale price list or an assumed mileage advantage.
