Bajaj Avenger Street 220 vs Revolt RV400: Key Facts Before You Choose

The Avenger Street 220 and Revolt RV400 are fundamentally different motorcycles: one is a petrol cruiser, the other an electric bike. This guide explains the real trade-offs, disputed availability, range limits, charging needs, warranty terms and the checks to complete before buying.

There is no universal winner between the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 and Revolt RV400. The Avenger is a petrol cruiser with a 220 cc engine and 13-litre tank; the RV400 is an electric motorcycle with a 3.24 kWh removable battery and a claimed 150 km IDC range. Choose the Avenger if you want conventional refuelling, a low-slung cruiser layout and long-distance flexibility. Choose the RV400 if you can charge from a household socket, your regular routes fit its actual range and an electric drivetrain suits your local use. Availability is the first complication: Bajaj’s range listing marks the Street as discontinued while a separate model page remains live, so confirm that any quotation is for a genuinely available new motorcycle.

What you are comparing

These motorcycles occupy a similar broad category but solve different transport problems. The Avenger Street 220 uses a fuel-injected, single-cylinder 220 cc petrol engine. The Revolt RV400 uses an electric motor and a removable 3.24 kWh battery. That means the most important comparison is not a headline mileage number against a range number; it is whether your routine is better served by petrol stops or planned charging.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The Avenger is designed around a relaxed cruiser posture. Bajaj describes a low-slung, wide seat, street-control handlebars and a cushioned backrest for rider and pillion. The RV400 is a lighter-feeling urban electric concept on paper, with an 815 mm seat specification and charging that Revolt says can use a standard household socket. Comfort, reach to the ground and passenger space still need a test ride because published dimensions do not capture every rider’s fit.

The 737 mm Avenger and 815 mm RV400 figures come from a ZigWheels comparison updated September 3, 2026, and may combine different variants or model years. Treat them as a starting point only. Verify the exact motorcycle in front of you before deciding that one seat is automatically easier to manage.

Petrol versus electric: the daily-use difference

How the Avenger fits a petrol routine

The Avenger’s 13-litre tank lets you refuel in a few minutes at a petrol station, then continue without waiting for a battery. That is useful for unpredictable trips, intercity travel and households without a dependable parking-space socket. You carry fuel energy in the tank, so your planning revolves around fuel-station access and the price of petrol rather than charging time.

The 19.03 PS maximum power arrives at 8,500 rpm and peak torque is 17.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm, as listed by Bajaj. Those figures describe the engine’s output points, not acceleration measured against the RV400. A petrol engine also brings the operating requirements associated with an internal-combustion motorcycle, such as engine oil and periodic mechanical servicing; the available material does not establish a current maintenance schedule or cost, so obtain the local service quotation before calculating ownership expense.

How the RV400 fits an electric routine

Revolt describes the RV400’s removable battery and portable charger as compatible with a regular home socket. Its manufacturer statement says, “No special installation needed. The RV400 comes with a portable charger that plugs into any standard home socket — the same socket you use for any other appliance.” In practical terms, that can make overnight or workplace charging possible where a suitable socket and safe parking arrangement exist.

Charging access is not a minor convenience question. Confirm that you can remove and carry the battery if the motorcycle must be parked away from a socket, that the charging location is dry and secure, and that the socket can be used without an unsafe extension or overloaded circuit. Ask the dealer for the supplied charger’s electrical requirements and current charging-time guidance for your variant; those details are not established in the cited specifications.

Range, speed and what the numbers do—and do not—mean

The RV400’s 150 km figure

Revolt quotes 150 km under the IDC test system. IDC is a standardized manufacturer range claim, not a promise that every rider will travel 150 km between charges. Speed, rider and pillion load, traffic, gradients, temperature, tyre pressure, riding mode and battery condition can all change usable distance. The cited material contains no independent real-world range test, so do not build a daily route around the full headline figure without keeping a reserve.

Before purchase, measure your longest normal day rather than only the one-way commute. Include detours, errands and the distance to a charger or home. Ask the dealer what range riders in your city report in the riding modes you would actually use, but treat any anecdote as local experience rather than a guaranteed specification.

The Avenger’s engine output

Bajaj lists 19.03 PS at 8,500 rpm and 17.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm for the Avenger Street 220. These are directly comparable only with another engine’s laboratory output, not with an electric motorcycle’s battery capacity or claimed range. The cited material contains no independently measured Avenger top speed, acceleration, fuel economy or RV400-versus-Avenger performance run. A fair buying decision should therefore use your route and riding feel from test rides instead of inventing a winner from unlike numbers.

Why a range-versus-power ranking is misleading

Power tells you about the engine’s ability to produce work at a stated speed; range tells you how far an energy store is claimed to take the vehicle under a test cycle. One cannot prove that a motorcycle is faster, more economical or more enjoyable than the other by comparing 19.03 PS with 150 km IDC. If brisk urban response, sustained highway speed or two-up climbing matters, ride both on roads that resemble your normal use and record how confident you feel at the speeds you actually maintain.

Riding position, seat height and passenger use

Bajaj’s description of the Avenger emphasizes a low-slung, wide seat, relaxed posture and a cushioned backrest for the pillion. That layout may appeal to riders who prefer cruiser ergonomics and a less forward-leaning stance. The physical reach to the bars, foot controls and ground depends on inseam, footwear and the exact motorcycle setup, not just the published saddle number.

Revolt lists an 815 mm seat specification for the RV400. A taller seat can be comfortable for one rider and awkward for another, particularly when stopping on uneven roads or moving the motorcycle without power. Check whether you can place both feet securely, turn the bars at full lock and reverse the bike in your normal parking space. Have your regular passenger sit behind you and assess knee bend, handholds, back support and the effect of their weight on low-speed balance.

Do not treat the secondary 737 mm Avenger figure as a definitive victory in accessibility. The comparison page may combine variants or model years, while Bajaj’s own comfort description is more useful for understanding the intended posture than for predicting your exact reach. A ten-minute static sit and a proper test ride answer more than a specification-sheet assumption.

Equipment and safety: verify the exact trim

Bajaj’s cited Avenger specification lists single-channel ABS and a 280 mm front disc. Confirm the rear-brake specification, tyre sizes, lighting and any equipment changes on the motorcycle offered to you; the individual listing and range status issue means model-year details deserve particular attention.

Revolt’s current RV400 page presents safety and feature information, but the cited excerpt does not provide a directly comparable safety package. Ask for the exact variant’s braking system, ABS or combined-braking arrangement, tyre specification, lighting, security functions and software features in writing. Do not assume that two motorcycles with similar prices have identical rider aids.

For either motorcycle, inspect brake feel, lever reach, mirror adjustment, switchgear and visibility during a test ride. Test the headlamp on an unlit stretch only where it is legal and safe to do so. Check that the side stand, centre stand if fitted, steering lock and rear grab points work as expected before signing a delivery document.

Availability and price require local confirmation

Why the Avenger needs an inventory check

Bajaj’s broader Avenger range page labels the Street as discontinued, yet a separate Avenger Street 220 model page remains live with specifications and a displayed price. Those pages do not establish that a new motorcycle is currently sitting at a dealer. Ask the seller to identify the manufacturing month and year, confirm that the vehicle is new rather than unsold old stock or used inventory, and provide the vehicle identification number before paying a booking amount.

Because the pages display inconsistent pricing information, treat any online figure as a page snapshot rather than a guaranteed quote. A discontinued model can also have different registration, insurance and financing treatment from a current model. Obtain a written, itemized on-road quotation for the exact city and variant.

What the RV400 price means

Revolt’s cited RV400 page displays ₹1,44,950 ex-showroom and states that on-road costs vary by city. Ex-showroom price excludes location-dependent items such as registration, insurance and applicable taxes or fees. Ask whether the quotation is for the current battery and software version, whether any incentive is included, and whether the displayed figure is a temporary offer or a regular price. Confirm delivery timing and local stock rather than relying on a national webpage.

Use one comparable quotation

Put both offers into the same worksheet with ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, accessories, extended warranty, financing charges and any dealer fees separated. Do not compare an Avenger advertised price with an RV400 on-road total. If a seller refuses to itemize the quote or will not state the variant and warranty terms, pause the purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Warranty, battery health and service support

Revolt states a vehicle warranty of 5 years or 60,000 km and a battery warranty of 8 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. It also states that the battery will be replaced if its health falls below 70% during the warranty period. These are manufacturer terms, not an independent durability forecast. Read the current warranty document for exclusions, required servicing, charging-related damage, transferability and the process used to measure battery health.

The cited Avenger material does not establish a warranty figure. Request Bajaj’s current written warranty for the exact unit, including coverage duration, kilometre limit, consumables, roadside assistance and requirements for scheduled service. If the Street is discontinued, ask how parts availability and warranty administration are handled for the manufacturing year you are being offered.

Service convenience can outweigh a small specification difference. Map the nearest authorized workshop for each motorcycle, ask how long common parts and battery diagnostics normally take, and find out whether roadside recovery is available on your route. For the RV400, ask who handles a battery fault when the removable pack is outside the motorcycle and whether a temporary replacement is offered. For the Avenger, ask about oil-service intervals and the cost of routine consumables using a written estimate rather than a generic online calculator.

Running-cost calculations without false precision

A precise break-even answer cannot be established from the available figures because it would require your annual kilometres, petrol price, electricity tariff, charging losses, service schedule, consumables, insurance, financing and any battery-related costs. Neither a claimed IDC range nor an engine power figure supplies those inputs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can still make a useful personal worksheet:

  1. Record your actual monthly distance for commuting, errands and longer rides.
  2. For the Avenger, enter the current petrol price in your city and the fuel economy you measure during a representative test period or obtain from a documented local record. Do not substitute an unsourced estimate.
  3. For the RV400, record your electricity tariff, the energy used for a full charge from a meter if possible, and the distance achieved on your normal route with a reserve.
  4. Add scheduled service, tyres, insurance, registration, financing and any paid charging or recovery costs.
  5. Compare the resulting annual totals only after confirming the exact local quotes and warranty terms.

This method keeps the decision grounded in your use. It also exposes when a claimed saving depends on a range or fuel-economy assumption you have not actually verified.

Which motorcycle fits common buyer situations?

Choose the Avenger Street 220 only when its status is confirmed

  • You want a petrol cruiser and do not want to plan every trip around charging.
  • Your riding includes irregular intercity distances where quick refuelling matters.
  • You value the low-slung posture and want a cushioned pillion backrest.
  • A dealer can prove that a new, correctly documented motorcycle is available at a sensible written price.

If the dealer can offer only old stock without clear registration or warranty support, the Avenger’s familiar petrol format does not remove that purchase risk.

Choose the RV400 when charging access is practical

  • You have a secure place to park and a standard socket you can use consistently.
  • Your measured daily route leaves a sensible reserve below the 150 km IDC claim.
  • You prefer electric operation and accept the need to plan longer journeys.
  • The local dealer can explain battery diagnostics, warranty measurement and parts support.

The removable battery helps where the motorcycle cannot be parked beside a socket, but carrying the pack up stairs or through a building may be impractical. Check its weight and your storage route in person.

Neither is automatically right

Postpone the purchase if you cannot verify the Avenger’s new-bike availability, cannot charge the RV400 safely, or cannot obtain a comparable city-specific quotation. A test ride should answer fit and control questions; it cannot repair an unclear invoice or missing warranty terms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A test-ride and purchase checklist

  1. Confirm identity: write down the exact model, variant, model year, manufacturing date and vehicle identification number.
  2. Check availability: for the Avenger, ask why the range page marks the Street discontinued and obtain proof that the offered unit is new. For the RV400, confirm the current battery and software version.
  3. Assess fit: sit in your usual riding position, place both feet down, turn the bars fully, operate the stand and repeat the exercise with your passenger.
  4. Ride your route: include slow traffic, a rough section, a hill if available and the fastest legal road you normally use.
  5. Test the energy routine: ask the Avenger dealer about refuelling and service intervals; ask the RV400 dealer to demonstrate battery removal, charger connection and the charge-status display.
  6. Inspect safety equipment: verify the exact braking system, tyres, lights, horn, mirrors, locks and security features on the delivered motorcycle.
  7. Demand an itemized quote: separate ex-showroom, registration, insurance, accessories, fees, financing and any discount or incentive.
  8. Read warranty terms: record time and kilometre limits, exclusions, service requirements, battery-health measurement and transfer rules.
  9. Plan support: save the authorized workshop’s address, contact number, recovery process and expected parts lead time.
  10. Document delivery: compare the vehicle identification number, odometer, charger and keys with the invoice before accepting the motorcycle.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming a live webpage means stock: Bajaj’s separate model page does not override the range listing’s discontinued label.
  • Treating 150 km IDC as guaranteed distance: it is a manufacturer test-cycle claim, not an independently verified everyday range.
  • Comparing unlike prices: ex-showroom and on-road figures include different costs and cannot be ranked without a city and variant.
  • Using a secondary seat figure as a fit verdict: the 737 mm Avenger and 815 mm RV400 values may reflect different versions; sit on the exact bikes.
  • Assuming equal safety equipment: the cited Avenger page lists single-channel ABS and a 280 mm front disc, while the comparable RV400 package must be confirmed for the selected trim.
  • Inventing a fuel-versus-electric payback period: without your distance, rates, service costs and measured energy use, a break-even number is speculation.
  • Ignoring passenger use: a motorcycle that feels comfortable solo may lack the support or space your regular pillion needs.

Bottom line for an Indian buyer

The Bajaj Avenger Street 220 is the more straightforward choice for a buyer who wants a petrol cruiser, a 13-litre tank and rapid refuelling—but only after confirming that a genuinely new Street is available and that its warranty and price are documented. The Revolt RV400 is the more logical choice for a buyer with dependable socket access, a route that stays comfortably within verified real-world range and confidence in the local electric service network. Revolt’s 150 km IDC claim, 85 km/h stated top speed and battery warranty are useful reference points, not substitutes for a route check and written terms.

Make the final decision from two comparable city quotations, a test ride with your passenger, your measured daily distance and the charging or refuelling routine you can sustain. The evidence does not support declaring either motorcycle the better choice for every rider.
