For someone shopping for a new motorcycle in India, the QJ Motor SRC 250 is the more straightforward purchase because QJ lists it for sale while Bajaj’s official range page marks the Avenger Street 220 discontinued. The Avenger remains relevant if you specifically want its low-slung cruiser design and can verify genuine local stock, warranty and parts support. On published specifications, Bajaj quotes 19.03 PS from its 220 cc single-cylinder engine; QJ quotes 17.4 hp from a 249 cc inline twin and lists dual-channel ABS.
That is not enough evidence to name a universal winner. Prices shown on websites are not interchangeable, mileage figures are only secondary claimed values, and no comparable independent test establishes which bike is faster, more comfortable, more reliable or cheaper to run. Use the specifications below to make a shortlist, then confirm a same-city quotation and ride both motorcycles if both are actually available.

First check whether the Avenger Street 220 can still be bought new
Bajaj’s current Avenger range page labels the Street 220 as discontinued. Bajaj still maintains an individual Street 220 model page, but a model page is not proof that a new, registered motorcycle is sitting at a dealer. Ask a Bajaj outlet to confirm the exact variant, manufacturing date, VIN, registration eligibility, warranty start date and parts availability before treating the Street as a new-bike alternative.

QJ Motor India has an SRC 250 product page and lists a booking price of ₹137,000 ex-showroom. That establishes a current manufacturer listing, not guaranteed inventory in every city. You still need written confirmation of the dealer’s stock, delivery timeline, warranty terms, insurance options and service location.

This status difference changes the buying decision. A comparison between two motorcycles on paper is useful, but a discontinued model with uncertain stock can become a used-bike or leftover-stock purchase with different financing, warranty and resale considerations. Do not pay a deposit until the dealer identifies the motorcycle you will receive.

Engine character: larger twin versus higher published power figure
What the Avenger’s numbers say
Bajaj describes the Avenger Street 220 as a 220 cc oil-cooled, twin-spark DTS-i, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine with a four-stroke SOHC two-valve head. Its model page quotes 13.99 kW, or 19.03 PS, at 8,500 rpm. The Avenger range page lists 17.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The important distinction is not simply the number 19.03. Bajaj publishes power in PS, while QJ publishes power in hp. They are different units, and the figures were not produced by one comparative test protocol. Quote them exactly rather than converting one silently and presenting the result as a laboratory head-to-head. The Avenger does have the higher published peak-power figure in the supplied specifications, but that alone does not establish acceleration, overtaking ability or top speed.
What the SRC 250’s numbers say
QJ Motor India lists a 249 cc liquid-cooled inline-twin engine producing 17.4 hp at 8,000 rpm and 17 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The page also specifies a five-speed gearbox and chain final drive.
The extra displacement and two-cylinder layout are a different design proposition from Bajaj’s single. They may change sound, vibration and the way power builds, but no comparable ride test was conducted for this comparison. A buyer should therefore treat the engine layout as a reason to arrange a test ride, not as a guarantee of smoother running or stronger performance.

Why peak figures are only one part of the decision
- Peak power is reached at a stated engine speed; it does not show output at normal commuting revs.
- Peak torque is also a single point. Gear ratios, throttle calibration, vehicle load and the torque curve determine how easy overtaking feels.
- The Avenger’s 17.55 Nm and the SRC’s 17 Nm are close on paper, but they occur at different rpm and come from different engine layouts.
- Rider weight, passenger load, tyre condition, road gradient and wind can overwhelm small specification differences in everyday use.
Braking and safety equipment
The Avenger Street 220 page describes a 280 mm front disc with single-channel ABS. QJ lists a 280 mm front disc, a 240 mm rear disc and dual-channel ABS for the SRC 250.
Dual-channel ABS can intervene on both wheels, while single-channel ABS is specified for the front channel on the Avenger. That is a meaningful equipment difference for a buyer who regularly rides in rain, on loose surfaces or with a passenger, but it is not a substitute for measured stopping distances. Tyres, road surface, brake pad condition, rider technique and calibration all affect braking.
During a dealer inspection, check that the ABS warning light performs its normal self-check, that the discs are free of deep scoring, that the levers feel firm and that the motorcycle has not been stored with corroded fasteners or contaminated pads. Ask the dealer to explain the warranty treatment for ABS components and the recommended inspection schedule.
Riding position, seat and everyday usability
Avenger: cruiser-style priorities
Bajaj positions the Street 220 as a cruiser-style street motorcycle with a low, wide seat, street-control handlebars and a relaxed posture. Those are the manufacturer’s design descriptions, not independent ergonomic measurements. The appeal is clear for a rider who wants a visibly low-slung motorcycle and a laid-back visual identity rather than a conventional upright commuter silhouette.
Because the supplied Bajaj excerpt does not state seat height or kerb weight, do not assume that every shorter rider will be able to flat-foot it or that it will be easy to manoeuvre in a parking area. Sit on the actual motorcycle with both feet on the pegs, turn the handlebar fully left and right, and push it backwards on level ground before buying.

QJ calls the SRC 250 a retro street bike. Its listed seat height is 780 mm and its weight is 163 kg. Those two published values give a clearer starting point for riders evaluating reach and low-speed handling, although seat width, centre of gravity and fuel load still matter.

Check whether your knees, wrists and lower back remain comfortable after at least 20 to 30 minutes. A showroom sit-down can reveal reach to the bars, but it cannot show heat management, clutch effort, steering at walking speed or comfort over broken roads.
Pillion and luggage checks
Neither supplied specification set establishes pillion comfort, grab-rail design, payload rating or luggage capacity. Bring the intended passenger to the test ride if possible. Check foot-peg position, available seat area, grab points and whether a top box or saddlebag mounting system is approved by the dealer. Do not infer a safe payload from engine displacement.
Price: compare like with like
Bajaj’s Street 220 model page displays ₹1,33,617 ex-showroom for Delhi. The same model is marked discontinued on Bajaj’s range page, so that number should be read as a page-listed figure, not a promise that a new Delhi motorcycle can be purchased at that price.

The page’s wording identifies a booking price; confirm whether the amount is still valid, whether it applies to your state and whether any handling, registration or optional charges are excluded.
Secondary comparison pages show why online numbers can be misleading. BikeWale gives an on-road snapshot for Haridwar of ₹1,59,940 for the Avenger and ₹1,61,648 for the SRC 250. Those are location-specific on-road figures, not directly comparable with Delhi or nationwide ex-showroom prices. ZigWheels and Hindustan Times Auto also present different price figures. Taxes, insurance, registration fees, accessories, offers and the date of the quote can all change the total.
Use this quotation checklist
- Ask both dealers for a written quotation dated the same day and naming the exact variant.
- Keep the basis identical: ex-showroom against ex-showroom, or on-road against on-road in the same city.
- Request separate lines for registration, insurance, handling or logistics fees, accessories, extended warranty and finance charges.
- For the Avenger, ask for the manufacturing month, VIN, warranty start date and written confirmation that the discontinued variant can be registered and serviced.
- For the SRC 250, confirm delivery date, warranty duration, roadside assistance if offered, and the nearest authorised service facility.
- Compare the final amount payable, not a headline booking or ex-showroom number.
Mileage: 40 versus 50 kmpl is not a fuel-cost promise
ZigWheels reports claimed figures of 40 kmpl for the Avenger and 50 kmpl for the SRC 250 in its comparison updated September 29, 2026. The available evidence does not establish a shared test cycle, fuel, route, rider weight or independent verification. These should be labelled claimed/reported, not expected real-world economy.

- Easy to Install: Car side seat gap filler is easy to install, simply insert it into the gap between the seat and the center console, gap seat filler for car can fit tightly without affecting the normal adjustment of the seat and the use of the seat belt

Do not multiply either number by your annual distance to create a precise fuel budget. Instead, record the motorcycle’s odometer and fuel quantity over several refills after purchase, using the same riding pattern. Until then, base your decision on tank capacity, local fuel prices and your own route rather than the 10 kmpl difference shown in a secondary comparison.

Choose the Avenger only when these conditions are met
- You specifically prefer the low, wide cruiser styling and relaxed posture Bajaj describes.
- A dealer can show you an actual Street 220 with a verifiable VIN and a clear warranty position.
- Local Bajaj service support and parts access are confirmed despite the discontinued status.
- You accept single-channel ABS and do not treat the published 19.03 PS figure as proof of superior real-world performance.
- The final quotation is competitive after accounting for the motorcycle’s age, registration status and any remaining warranty.
Choose the SRC 250 when these conditions matter most
- You want a currently listed 249 cc inline-twin motorcycle rather than a discontinued model whose stock must be found.
- Dual-channel ABS is a priority.
- A 780 mm seat height and 163 kg listed weight suit your reach and low-speed confidence.
- You prefer retro street styling and want the manufacturer-specified five-speed gearbox and chain drive.
- Your city has an authorised QJ dealer and service route you can realistically use.
Wait or widen the search when neither is a clean fit
Pause the purchase if the Avenger is available only as an old, unregistered unit with unclear warranty, or if the SRC dealer cannot provide parts and service information. A motorcycle that is technically attractive but difficult to support locally can cost more time and money than its specification advantage is worth. It is better to obtain another quotation than to treat a web listing as proof of ownership support.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical test-ride comparison
If both motorcycles are available, use the same route and make the same observations. A short loop cannot establish long-term reliability, but it can reveal obvious fit and control differences.
- Static fit: sit in normal riding gear, check reach to the ground, turn the bars to full lock and lift the motorcycle off the side stand. Note whether the seat edge presses into your thighs.
- Low-speed control: ride at walking pace, perform a tight U-turn and make several starts and stops. Record clutch effort, throttle smoothness and steering weight.
- Urban acceleration: use the same stretch and gear strategy on both bikes. Observe how easily each motorcycle moves away from traffic lights; do not treat this as a timed acceleration test.
- Braking: make progressive stops in a safe, dry area. Feel for lever consistency and ABS intervention without deliberately provoking a dangerous lock-up.
- Surface changes: cross a representative speed breaker and rough patch slowly. Listen for rattles and note whether the suspension settles without bottoming; this is a personal ride impression, not an instrumented result.
- Passenger check: repeat a short loop with the intended pillion and ask about knee angle, seat room, grab points and vibration.
- After the ride: inspect for heat discomfort, fan operation, warning lights, oil or coolant leaks and any new noises. Ask the salesperson to document unresolved issues before you negotiate.
Ownership questions the specification sheets cannot answer
No comparable evidence was established for service costs, reliability, resale value, parts lead times, insurance premiums or long-term fuel consumption. Ask the local dealer for the maintenance schedule and typical consumables, then obtain an independent owner reference in your city if possible.
- How many authorised service outlets are within a practical distance?
- Which parts are stocked locally and which are ordered from a central warehouse?
- What is covered by the standard warranty, and when does coverage begin?
- What happens if the motorcycle is old stock or has already been invoiced?
- Are software diagnostics, ABS checks and recall notifications available through the dealer?
- What documentation is supplied for registration, insurance and emissions compliance?
These answers are especially important for the Avenger because the range page’s discontinued label can affect future availability. They also matter for the SRC because a product page does not by itself prove nationwide service coverage.

Mistake: comparing Delhi ex-showroom with a different city’s on-road price
Fix: compare identical price bases in the same city on the same date, with insurance and registration itemised.
Mistake: declaring the winner from 19.03 PS versus 17.4 hp
Fix: preserve the original units, consider the different engine layouts and test the motorcycles under the same conditions.
Mistake: treating 40 and 50 kmpl as guaranteed economy
Fix: label the numbers as ZigWheels-reported claimed figures and measure your own consumption after purchase.
Mistake: assuming dual-channel ABS automatically means a shorter stop
Fix: regard ABS type as equipment information, then assess tyres, brake condition and rider control safely.
Mistake: filling missing specifications with guesses
Fix: Bajaj’s supplied excerpt does not state the Street’s weight, seat height, rear brake or transmission, so verify those items on the exact motorcycle and its official documentation.
Decision matrix
| Your priority | More suitable starting point | Reason and condition |
|---|---|---|
| Buying a currently listed new motorcycle | QJ Motor SRC 250 | QJ lists the model and a ₹137,000 ex-showroom booking price; confirm local stock and support |
| Low-slung cruiser styling | Bajaj Avenger Street 220 | Bajaj describes the low, wide seat and relaxed posture; availability and warranty must be verified |
| Highest published power figure | Avenger on the quoted figures | Bajaj lists 19.03 PS; QJ lists 17.4 hp, different units and no common test |
| Dual-channel ABS | QJ Motor SRC 250 | QJ lists front and rear discs with dual-channel ABS |
| Known listed kerb weight and seat height | QJ Motor SRC 250 | QJ publishes 163 kg and 780 mm; the supplied Avenger excerpt does not state these values |
| Confidence in local ownership support | Whichever dealer provides stronger written evidence | Check service distance, parts, warranty and delivery rather than assuming from brand or model-page presence |
Verdict: which is better?
For a new-bike purchase, the QJ Motor SRC 250 is the safer default recommendation because it is the model currently listed by QJ Motor India and it includes dual-channel ABS, a 249 cc inline-twin engine, a published 780 mm seat height and a 163 kg listed weight. That recommendation remains conditional on a credible local dealer, service access and a final quotation you can verify.
The Bajaj Avenger Street 220 is the better personal choice for a rider who values its cruiser-style proportions and wants the manufacturer-listed 19.03 PS figure, provided a real, correctly documented motorcycle can be sourced. Bajaj’s discontinued designation means stock, warranty and parts support must be settled before price or styling becomes the deciding factor.
