Choose the Avenger Cruise 220 if you want traditional chrome, a larger windscreen, swept-back handlebars and spoke wheels. Choose the Avenger Street 220 if darker styling, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres and the slightly lower listed kerb weight matter more. The engine, gearbox, seat height and core chassis are effectively shared, so neither is universally better. The practical decision is styling, wind protection, wheel-and-tyre equipment, local availability and the dealer’s final on-road quote.
What is the difference between the Avenger Cruise 220 and Street 220?
The Cruise 220 and Street 220 are two versions of Bajaj’s Avenger 220 cruiser. Bajaj’s specifications show the same 220 cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel-injected, twin-spark DTS-i engine in both motorcycles. Bajaj lists maximum power of 13.99 kW (19.03 PS) at 8,500 rpm and peak torque of 17.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Autocar India reports a five-speed gearbox and a 737 mm seat height for both.

That makes the comparison less about engine output and more about equipment and appearance. The Cruise has the classic, chrome-heavy look, a larger windscreen, taller swept-back handlebars and spoke wheels with tube-type tyres. The Street has darker trim, a smaller flyscreen, flatter handlebars and alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.

Bajaj lists the Street at 160 kg kerb weight and the Cruise at 163 kg. The three-kilogram difference is a listed specification, not evidence by itself that one motorcycle will feel faster, safer or more comfortable in every situation.

Engine, gearbox and shared chassis
Identical published engine output
Bajaj’s model specifications identify a 220 cc single-cylinder engine with oil cooling, fuel injection and twin-spark DTS-i ignition for both variants. The stated output is 13.99 kW, equivalent to 19.03 PS, at 8,500 rpm. Stated peak torque is 17.55 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Bajaj does not give a publication year for the specification pages, so these figures should be read as the values currently shown on those pages, not assigned to a particular model year.
Because the same figures are listed for both motorcycles, the listed specifications do not support calling one faster, more economical or mechanically stronger. No comparative road test or fuel-consumption test is reported here. Your result in traffic will depend on load, riding conditions, maintenance, tyre pressures and riding style, none of which is quantified by the cited specifications.
Five-speed transmission
Autocar India reports a five-speed gearbox for both versions. The transmission is therefore not a reason to select one variant over the other. Any difference you feel at the controls should be treated as a matter of riding position, wheel-and-tyre equipment or individual setup rather than a different published engine or gearbox specification.

Common dimensions that matter to fit
Bajaj lists a 737 mm seat height for the Street, while Autocar reports the same low seat height for both variants. Bajaj lists a 1,490 mm wheelbase and 13-litre fuel capacity for the Street; the Cruise specification page also lists a 13-litre tank. The comparison describes a common core chassis. These figures explain why both motorcycles target riders who want a low-slung cruiser stance, but they do not establish that either seat is more comfortable for every rider.

Styling and wind protection
Avenger Cruise 220: the traditional interpretation
The Cruise is the choice for a visibly classic cruiser. Chrome highlights, a larger windscreen, taller swept-back handlebars and spoke wheels create the most traditional appearance of the pair. The windscreen is also the clearest equipment difference if you spend time on open roads and prefer more coverage around the upper body. The comparison reporting identifies the screen as larger; it does not provide wind-tunnel measurements or a quantified reduction in wind pressure.
Its spoke wheels and tube-type tyres are part of that classic visual language. They may be exactly what you want when the motorcycle’s look is as important as its specification sheet. Neither Bajaj nor Autocar India establishes that this arrangement is objectively better on a particular road surface, so treat it as a styling and ownership preference rather than a performance guarantee.
Avenger Street 220: darker and more compact-looking
The Street uses darker styling, a smaller flyscreen and a flatter handlebar. The result is a less ornate appearance than the Cruise. Autocar describes the flatter, lower handlebar as giving a slightly more engaged posture, while the Cruise’s taller swept-back bar is described as more relaxed. These are qualitative descriptions from comparison reporting, not measurements from a test performed for this article.
The smaller flyscreen changes the visual profile as well as the stated wind-protection hardware. If you prefer a cleaner front end or a darker finish, the Street’s design is the more natural fit. If you specifically want the large-screen, chrome cruiser image, adding up the Street’s appearance later may not produce the same factory look.

Wheels, tyres and puncture practicality
Street: alloy wheels with tubeless tyres
The Street’s alloy wheels and tubeless tyres are its most consequential practical distinction. In the comparison reporting, this setup is highlighted as more convenient for puncture repair. A tubeless puncture can often be temporarily repaired without removing an inner tube, although the correct repair method depends on the damage, tyre condition and the technician’s assessment. A serious sidewall or bead failure still requires proper repair or replacement.
Alloy wheels also give the Street a different visual identity from the Cruise’s spokes. No wheel-size, tyre-width or puncture-frequency data are published, so do not infer a guaranteed handling, durability or maintenance advantage beyond the stated tubeless-versus-tube distinction.
Cruise: spoke wheels with tube-type tyres
The Cruise uses spoke wheels with tube-type tyres. This matches its traditional styling, but a puncture normally involves the tube and may require more work at the roadside or workshop than a simple tubeless plug. That is a practical consideration for riders who travel far from tyre shops or want the most straightforward puncture routine.

Price and availability: verify before you pay
The published information does not resolve a single dependable current Delhi ex-showroom price. Bajaj’s range page lists ₹1,33,617 for both motorcycles, yet that same page labels the Street as “Discontinued Bike” while also displaying a Street price card. Autocar India’s 3 June 2026 comparison states ₹1.30 lakh for each in its body text, while its article cards show ₹1.37 lakh for the Cruise and ₹1.30 lakh for the Street. Autocar’s 8 June 2026 variant article again states ₹1.30 lakh for each in the body.
| Published listing | Cruise 220 | Street 220 | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bajaj range page | ₹1,33,617 | ₹1,33,617, while the page also says “Discontinued Bike” | Check the live page and ask a dealer to confirm stock and model status. |
| Autocar India, 3 June 2026 body text | ₹1.30 lakh | ₹1.30 lakh | Useful published context, not a guaranteed current quote. |
| Autocar India, 3 June 2026 article cards | ₹1.37 lakh | ₹1.30 lakh | Conflicts with the same article’s body text. |
| Autocar India, 8 June 2026 body text | ₹1.30 lakh | ₹1.30 lakh | Still requires local confirmation. |
These figures are not interchangeable quotations. Ex-showroom prices can vary by location and can be revised, while the on-road amount also includes registration, insurance, taxes and any dealer charges. Before choosing the Street for its equipment, confirm that a new unit is actually available in your city. Before choosing either model on price, request a written, itemised on-road quotation for the exact stock motorcycle.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which one should you buy?
Buy the Cruise 220 when appearance and windscreen size lead
- You want the more traditional chrome cruiser design.
- You prefer taller, swept-back handlebars and the relaxed posture described by the comparison coverage.
- You specifically want the larger windscreen.
- You accept spoke wheels and tube-type tyres as part of the look.
This recommendation is conditional on local availability and price. The Cruise is not supported by the cited evidence as faster, more fuel-efficient or more reliable than the Street.
Buy the Street 220 when wheel-and-tyre convenience leads
- You prefer darker styling and a smaller flyscreen.
- You want alloy wheels and tubeless tyres for the easier puncture-repair routine identified by Autocar.
- You like the flatter, lower handlebar and its slightly more engaged posture.
- The three-kilogram lower listed kerb weight is meaningful to your decision.
Do not pay a premium merely because a listing implies the Street is newer or more desirable. The published pages conflict about its discontinued status and price, so the dealer’s confirmed stock and written quote are decisive.

A practical buying process
- Check model status in your location. Ask an authorised Bajaj dealer whether the Street 220 and Cruise 220 are physically available as new motorcycles, and ask for the manufacturing date and exact variant name on the quotation.
- Request two itemised on-road quotes. Separate ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, handling charges and finance costs. Do not compare a bare ex-showroom figure with an on-road total.
- Inspect the equipment you are actually choosing. Confirm the Cruise’s windscreen and spoke/tube setup or the Street’s flyscreen and alloy/tubeless setup on the motorcycle in front of you.
- Sit on both motorcycles. Compare reach to the taller swept-back Cruise handlebar and the flatter Street bar. The published 737 mm seat height is common, but your reach, leg position and preferred posture are personal.
- Plan for puncture support. If you choose the Cruise, understand how a tube repair will be handled on your usual routes. If you choose the Street, still carry a suitable repair and inflation plan; tubeless does not mean puncture-proof.
- Confirm documentation and warranty terms. Match the chassis and engine numbers to the invoice and registration paperwork before delivery.
- Use the owner’s manual for setup and service. Follow the manual for the exact motorcycle, operating conditions, oil guidance and tyre instructions rather than applying generic advice.
Maintenance and electrical-accessory warning
Bajaj’s Avenger 220 owner’s manual provides model-specific maintenance guidance, including oil information and service instructions. The manual also identifies tube tyres on the Cruise. Service intervals, consumables and inspection points should come from the manual supplied with your motorcycle and from an authorised service outlet when required.
The manual warns: “Do not add extra electrical accessories such as – Remote, Bigger horn, Musical brake light etc. This will reduce life of battery”. That is the manufacturer’s warning about the listed additions. Treat any accessory installation as an electrical-load decision and have compatibility checked rather than assuming a higher-capacity component is automatically suitable.
What the listed information does not prove
- There is no supplied comparative test showing that either variant is faster.
- There is no verified fuel-economy comparison.
- There is no evidence here that one is safer, more reliable or more comfortable in real-world use.
- There is no quantified wind-protection test for either screen.
- There is no population study or owner survey establishing a universally preferred variant.
Keeping those limits clear prevents a styling or equipment difference from being presented as a performance result. The reliable choice is the one whose equipment matches your priorities and whose availability, condition and price are confirmed locally.

On the published facts, the Avenger Cruise 220 is the better match for a classic cruiser experience: chrome, a larger windscreen, swept-back bars and spoke wheels. The Avenger Street 220 is the better match for darker styling, a flatter bar and the everyday puncture convenience of alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. Since both share the listed engine output, five-speed gearbox, low seat height and 13-litre fuel capacity, your final decision should come from those equipment differences—not an assumed performance gap. Verify the Street’s status and obtain current on-road quotes before signing, because the cited Bajaj and Autocar listings do not agree.
