Avore EX2 vs Yamaha XSR 155: Which Motorcycle Fits Your Riding?

The Avore EX2 and Yamaha XSR 155 suit different routines: home-charged electric automatic riding versus a petrol six-speed motorcycle. Compare market-specific specifications, range evidence, prices and support before choosing.

There is no evidence-based universal winner between the Avore EX2 and Yamaha XSR 155. The EX2 is an electric motorcycle built around home charging and automatic operation, while the XSR 155 is a petrol 155cc motorcycle with a six-speed manual gearbox. Your better choice depends on whether you can charge where you park, how far and where you ride, which model is actually sold in your city, and the local price, warranty and service network.

Avore’s headline range and charging figures are manufacturer claims, not independent road-test results. Yamaha’s published specifications are market-specific: the India brochure and Indonesian product page describe different outputs, dimensions and prices. Treat this as a buying framework, then obtain same-city, same-date quotes for the exact variants.

Avore EX2 vs Yamaha XSR 155 at a glance

Question Avore EX2 Yamaha XSR 155
Power source Electric; Avore presents the EX range as electric. 155cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected petrol engine with a six-speed constant-mesh transmission (India brochure).
Operating routine Plug in at home or another compatible charging point; automatic electric riding. Refuel with petrol and operate a manual six-speed gearbox.
Published range/output figures Avore FAQ: up to 260 km IDC under ideal conditions. A separate comparison listing shows 5kWh, 7.5kW and 255km, but those are secondary figures and are not reconciled with Avore’s FAQ. India brochure: 13.5kW (18.4PS) at 10,000rpm and 14.2N·m at 7,500rpm.
Weight and carrying energy Exact EX2 kerb weight and battery specification require confirmation from the seller. India brochure: 137kg kerb weight and 10L fuel tank.
Published price evidence A comparison page lists ₹1,67,141 on-road, but this is a date-sensitive secondary entry, not a verified current quote. Indonesia page: Jakarta recommended on-road price Rp40,265,000 for standard trim and Rp40,665,000 for 70th Livery; these figures are not Indian prices.
Best initial fit Riders with dependable overnight charging and predictable daily routes. Riders who need rapid petrol refuelling, a manual riding experience or Yamaha’s established market support where available.

Neither table column proves lower ownership cost, longer real-world range, stronger acceleration or better reliability. No controlled head-to-head test is available for those conclusions.

How the two motorcycles fit into daily life

Electric charging versus petrol refuelling

Avore says the electric motorcycle has an in-built charger that can use a standard 15A home socket. Its FAQ gives a typical full-charge cost of ₹20–₹40, depending on the local electricity tariff. Both statements are company-provided guidance; confirm that the exact EX2 variant, your wiring and your electricity connection support the arrangement.

  • Engine Coolant Thermostat BK6-E2410-00 for Yamaha VIXION R/YZF-R15 2017/WR155/XSR155/MT-15

The practical question is not only energy price. You need a safe parking place close to a socket and enough dwell time for charging. A petrol motorcycle can be refuelled at a station in a few minutes, which is useful for long, irregular or multi-stop trips. An electric motorcycle can be convenient when it starts each morning charged, but an unavailable socket or an unexpectedly long ride changes that convenience.

Automatic simplicity versus a six-speed manual

The EX2’s electric layout is intended to provide automatic operation: there is no clutch work or gear selection in normal riding. That can reduce effort in stop-and-go traffic and makes the riding routine straightforward for someone who does not want to manage a manual transmission.

The XSR 155’s constant-mesh six-speed gearbox gives the rider control over engine speed and gear choice. Some riders specifically prefer that mechanical involvement, while others find clutch work tiring in congestion. Choose based on the experience you want rather than assuming one system is objectively faster or easier for everyone.

What Avore’s range and charging claims really mean

260km IDC is a test-cycle claim, not a promise

Avore’s 2026 FAQ says: “The Avore Electric Motorcycle claims an IDC range of up to 260 km on a single charge under ideal riding conditions.” The same answer warns that actual range varies with riding mode, speed, rider and load, terrain, weather, traffic and battery condition.

IDC is therefore a reference figure under specified conditions. It should not be presented as a guaranteed distance on an open road. Headwinds, hills, high speeds, a passenger, heavy luggage, low temperatures and an ageing battery can all reduce usable distance. Ask the seller for an EX2-specific test-cycle document and a realistic range estimate for your route; the broad FAQ does not establish those details.

Why another listing says 255km

A separate comparison page lists the EX2 with a 5kWh battery, 7.5kW power, 255km range and four-hour charging. It also lists ₹1,67,141 on-road. Those entries are secondary, date-sensitive information. Avore’s FAQ instead refers broadly to an Avore electric motorcycle and claims up to 260km IDC. The variant, measurement method and trim behind the 255km listing are unresolved, so neither number should be treated as a verified real-world EX2 result.

Questions to ask before paying a deposit

  • Is the quoted battery capacity for the EX2 you are ordering, and is it nominal or usable capacity?
  • What charging time applies from the battery’s normal low state to full, and under what electrical conditions?
  • What range should you expect with your speed, passenger, hills and weather?
  • How is battery capacity or state of health covered by the warranty?
  • What happens if the motorcycle or charger develops a fault at your location?

Fuel capacity 10L

Minimum ground clearance 120mm
Braking and equipment Dual-channel ABS, traction control, Y-Connect, LED lamps and digital instruments

Yamaha states that specifications and designs may vary according to requirements and may change without prior notice. Confirm the model year and equipment on the motorcycle offered in your market.

Indonesia figures are a different reference

Yamaha’s Indonesia product page lists 14.2kW at 10,000rpm, 14.7Nm at 8,500rpm, 134kg, a 10.4L tank and 170mm ground clearance. It gives Jakarta recommended on-road prices of Rp40,265,000 for the standard XSR 155 and Rp40,665,000 for the 70th Livery.

Those values describe the Indonesian-market motorcycle and Indonesian pricing. Do not combine the 170mm clearance, 134kg weight or 14.2kW output with the India brochure and call the result one universal XSR 155 specification. Currency, taxes, equipment and homologation differ by country.

Ergonomics and practical fit

Seat height and ground clearance

The India brochure’s 810mm seat height is a meaningful check for shorter riders, especially when manoeuvring a stationary motorcycle or stopping on uneven ground. Ask to sit on the exact motorcycle with your normal footwear; inseam length, seat shape and suspension sag affect reach more than a number alone.

The brochure’s 120mm minimum ground clearance should be considered against your roads, speed bumps and passenger load. The Indonesian listing’s 170mm figure demonstrates why market-specific specifications matter. Avore EX2 seat height, clearance and kerb weight are not established in the supplied official material, so inspect the actual motorcycle rather than estimating from a photograph or a third-party listing.

Weight, luggage and passenger use

The XSR 155’s India kerb weight is published as 137kg. For the EX2, obtain the exact kerb weight with the battery installed; electric motorcycles can have a substantial battery mass, and a quoted dry or shipping weight is not interchangeable with kerb weight. Check the permitted gross vehicle weight, passenger rating, rack limits and accessory fitment for either model before planning regular two-up travel.

Price, incentives and the cost questions that cannot be answered from headline figures

Compare one city, one date and one registration method

The available figures are not a like-for-like price comparison. The ₹1,67,141 EX2 amount is a secondary listing whose date, city and variant need verification. The XSR 155 figures in rupiah are Jakarta recommended on-road prices, not Indian quotes. A meaningful comparison requires written offers for both motorcycles in the same city and currency, including taxes, registration, insurance, delivery, accessories and any incentive.

Electric-vehicle incentives, registration rules and electricity tariffs can vary by state or country. Petrol cost also varies by location and date. Do not turn Avore’s ₹20–₹40 full-charge estimate into a universal cost-per-kilometre calculation, and do not claim lifetime savings without verified energy consumption, maintenance, battery-life and fuel data for the exact routes.

Service, warranty and parts: verify before choosing

Avore says routine maintenance includes brake checks, tyre inspection, battery-health checks and software updates. That does not establish the size of its dealer network, response times, parts inventory or the exact EX2 warranty. Ask for the written warranty, exclusions, battery-health threshold, charger coverage and roadside assistance terms.

The Yamaha material identifies model specifications and market pricing, but it does not provide a complete, directly comparable service and warranty package for the XSR 155 in the same geography as the Avore information. Confirm the nearest authorised workshop, service intervals, genuine-parts availability, expected turnaround and whether diagnostic software is required.

For either motorcycle, a low purchase quote is less useful if the nearest qualified technician is far away or a crash-damaged part must be imported. Obtain the service address and parts lead-time answer in writing, not only a salesperson’s verbal assurance.

Which is better for different riders?

Choose the Avore EX2 when these conditions are true

  • You have secure overnight access to a suitable 15A socket or an officially supported charging installation.
  • Your everyday distance fits a conservative, route-specific range estimate rather than the 260km ideal-condition claim.
  • You prefer automatic electric operation and quiet, low-effort urban riding.
  • The EX2 is available locally with a written price, delivery date, battery warranty and dependable service contact.

Choose the Yamaha XSR 155 when these conditions are true

  • You regularly make trips where rapid refuelling matters more than charging at home.
  • You want a six-speed manual motorcycle and the involvement of a petrol engine.
  • The India-market dimensions and 810mm seat height suit you, and dual-channel ABS is important to your specification.
  • Your local Yamaha dealer can supply the motorcycle, parts and scheduled service at a reasonable distance.

Pause the purchase when neither case is proven

Do not order either model until you can confirm local registration eligibility, an all-in price, delivery timing, warranty documents and after-sales support. For the EX2, resolve the difference between the broad 260km IDC claim and the secondary 255km listing. For the XSR 155, ensure the quoted motorcycle belongs to your market rather than being an imported or differently equipped version.

A practical buying process

  1. Define your route. Record typical daily kilometres, longest weekly trip, passenger use, hills, traffic and available parking.
  2. Confirm the market and variant. Write down country, city, model year, trim and whether the motorcycle is officially sold there.
  3. Get matching quotes. Request on-road prices from sellers for both models, with taxes, insurance, registration, delivery and incentives itemised.
  4. Check the physical fit. Sit on the motorcycle, test the reach to the ground and controls, move it with the engine off, and verify passenger and luggage provisions.
  5. Validate energy access. For the EX2, inspect the socket location and ask about charging time, electrical protection and cable length. For the XSR 155, identify nearby fuel stations and the recommended fuel specification.
  6. Read warranty and service terms. Check battery or engine coverage, exclusions, service intervals, software support, parts availability and roadside assistance.
  7. Take a proper test ride. Try your normal roads, stop-start traffic, speed bumps and a passenger if permitted. Record comfort, control reach and confidence; do not infer acceleration or range from brochure numbers.
  8. Recheck the contract. Make sure the VIN or exact variant, promised equipment, delivery date and refund terms match the written quotation.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Calling 260km “real-world range.” It is Avore’s up-to-260km IDC claim under ideal conditions, with multiple stated variables.
  • Mixing national specifications. India and Indonesia XSR 155 figures are not interchangeable.
  • Treating a listing as a factory confirmation. The 5kWh, 7.5kW, 255km, four-hour and ₹1,67,141 EX2 entries are secondary and unresolved.
  • Comparing sticker prices across currencies. Jakarta rupiah pricing cannot establish an Indian on-road price.
  • Assuming electric maintenance is zero. Brakes, tyres, battery health and software still require attention.
  • Ignoring support distance. A motorcycle that cannot be serviced promptly can be impractical regardless of its powertrain.

Bottom line: which is better?

The Avore EX2 is better for a rider whose priority is automatic electric commuting and who can charge reliably at home, after verifying the exact variant’s range, price, warranty and local support. The Yamaha XSR 155 is better for someone who values a manual six-speed petrol motorcycle, quick refuelling and the published India-market specification, provided an authorised local supply and service network exists.

Because the evidence does not include a controlled road test or a same-city ownership-cost study, choosing a winner by acceleration, reliability or lifetime savings would be unjustified. Make the decision from your route, charging or refuelling routine, physical fit and a written local quote.
