Autoworld Brussels is marking its 40th anniversary in 2026 with special exhibitions and a birthday event, while planning a major renovation for 2027. The museum has not yet published the renovation’s design, budget, full schedule or effect on visitor access.
What Autoworld has announced for 2027
Autoworld says a major renovation is planned for 2027. Its history page says the team is preparing the project and that further information will follow. The museum has also secured a new lease to use the building until 2041, giving it a longer horizon for planning. Separately, Autoworld’s sustainability page describes 2026 works overseen by the Belgian Buildings Agency, including the installation of double glazing. It also says the museum is renewing its scenography sustainably. The published details do not establish that these works make up the full 2027 renovation. What the 40th-anniversary program includes
Lancia and Aston Martin exhibitions
Autoworld says its 2026 program includes exhibitions dedicated to Lancia and Aston Martin, alongside its flagship events. Its announcement does not give dates for those marque exhibitions. The museum’s 2025 announcement outlines the anniversary-year program.
“Autoworld 40 Years – Looking back to the future”
This anniversary exhibition is listed for September 11 through December 13, 2026. Its description says it revisits vehicles shown in past exhibitions and links each vehicle to the exhibition where it appeared. Dates and description are from the Brussels Museums listing.

Birthday event on October 4
Brussels Museums lists Autoworld’s birthday event for October 4, 2026. The program description includes an anniversary edition of Cars & Coffee, a supercar display, guided tours, rides in collection cars and activities for children. How the anniversary fits the museum’s history
Autoworld says it was established in 1986 and today presents automotive history through a collection of more than 300 vehicles. Its history page says 200 vehicles from the Mahy family collection were displayed when the museum was established. In its anniversary exhibition account, the museum gives a different opening figure: more than 350 vehicles on display in 1986. The figures describe different things—the Mahy vehicles and the total display—and should not be treated as interchangeable. The anniversary account also says Autoworld has staged 105 temporary exhibitions and shown more than 2,000 vehicles across them. These are figures published by the museum, not independently audited statistics. Brussels Museums’ exhibition listing reproduces the account.
Autoworld reports more than 245,000 visitors in 2025 and calls it a fourth consecutive attendance record. That is the museum’s own claim for that year, not an independently verified attendance count. Autoworld’s 2025 announcement gives the figure.

Visitor planning: passes and changing details
Brussels Museums lists both the Brussels Card and museumPASSmusées as accepted at Autoworld. That listing alone does not establish whether either pass covers the October birthday event or any particular activity; confirm current admission terms with the museum or event organizer.
