Audi called the Q5 one of the most popular midsize SUVs in Germany and Europe for more than 15 years—a company description, not a global sales ranking.
Why Audi calls the Q5 popular
In its 2024 announcement, Audi described the Q5 as one of the most popular SUVs in the midsize segment in Germany and Europe for more than 15 years. That is Audi’s characterization; the announcement does not provide an independent sales ranking or establish the same position worldwide. Audi’s announcement also framed the redesign as the next step in updating its vehicle lineup.
What changed in the third-generation Q5?
A new platform and launch powertrains
Audi says the third-generation Q5 is its first SUV built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). At launch, the company described a European petrol and diesel range with MHEV plus technology. The announcement does not establish that every engine or equipment configuration is offered in every country, so buyers should check the local lineup.
Updated design and cabin technology
The overhaul brings revised exterior design, new infotainment and a modernized operating concept. Audi’s product marketing expert Dominic Stern said the design team wanted the new generation to remain clearly recognizable as a Q5. Audi’s feature coverage also describes adaptable storage, active digital light signatures and second-generation digital OLED rear lights; availability depends on market and specification.

Optional adaptive air suspension
Audi highlights adaptive air suspension as an available feature, not a universal fitment. Equipment can vary by country, trim and configuration, so confirm the specification of the vehicle being considered.
Is the redesigned Q5 a 2025 or 2026 model?
The distinction is the announcement date versus model-year designation. Audi announced the third generation on September 2, 2024, while Audi USA presents the redesigned vehicle as a 2026 model. What about the Q5 e-hybrid?
Audi announced plug-in Q5 e-hybrid variants in 2025, after the original generation launch announcement. The company said the high-voltage battery has around 45 percent more capacity than its predecessor, and stated that European orders would open in mid-June 2025. That order date is historical; it does not confirm present availability or availability outside Europe. Check Audi’s Q5 e-hybrid announcement and your country’s current model listing.

Because the Q5 range varies by market and version, compare vehicles within the same country and model year rather than assuming a global specification. Audi’s Q5 model page publishes version-specific efficiency figures; use the figures for the exact engine and trim, and keep the applicable test cycle in view.
