Audi’s largest SUV is the Q9, officially announced on July 29, 2026. Its tall front and deep Singleframe grille give it the “big mouth” look; the upright tail and extended rear overhang help make room for three rows. The “Caddy’s rear end” comparison is not a confirmed styling connection: the available reporting compares the Q9’s size with the Cadillac Escalade, not its design lineage.
What is Audi’s largest SUV?
The Q9 is Audi’s new portfolio flagship and its largest SUV to date, according to the company’s July 29, 2026 announcement. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner described it as the brand’s “first large full-size SUV”; that is Audi’s positioning, not an independent vehicle-class assessment. The model had been spotted in camouflaged prototypes before its official announcement, but Audi’s production reveal is the basis for the confirmed details here.
What does the Audi Q9 look like?
A tall front with a prominent grille
Audi describes a vertically oriented front, with the Singleframe grille and headlights integrated into a black mask. The grille reaches deep into the lower fascia. “Big mouth” is a visual shorthand for that broad, prominent treatment, rather than an official Audi feature name.
An upright rear, not a confirmed Cadillac design
Audi describes an upright tail and an extended rear overhang, with the license plate positioned in the bumper. Those proportions contribute to the cabin and luggage space, while curved digital OLED rear lights are joined by a continuous light strip. Ars Technica’s launch report compares the Q9’s overall size with the Cadillac Escalade, which is larger by a few inches in some dimensions; it does not establish that the Q9’s rear was styled after a Cadillac. Calling the tail a “Caddy’s rear end” is therefore opinion, not a documented design relationship.

How big is the Q9, and how many people can it seat?
Audi lists the Q9 at 5.31 m long, 2.21 m wide, and 1.81 m tall, with a 3.14 m wheelbase. For the US market, Ars Technica reports dimensions of 209 inches long, 79.2 inches wide, and 71.4 inches tall. The figures use different units and reporting contexts; the Audi measurements are the company’s published specifications, while the US figures are Ars’s report.
Seven seats are standard, and Audi offers an optional six-seat layout with individual second-row seats. The cabin has three rows; Audi also lists automatic doors, a panoramic sunroof, and cargo-organization features. The six-seat option trades a passenger place for separate second-row seating.

What engine does the Q9 have, and what does it cost?
The German launch version is the Q9 TDI with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel producing 220 kW (299 PS) and 630 Nm. Audi pairs it with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi says selected European markets will also receive a 180 kW (245 PS), 500 Nm version. These are launch-market powertrain details; they do not establish what every market will receive.

Audi announced that orders in Germany open from late July 2026, with deliveries expected in the fourth quarter. The German Q9 TDI 220 kW starts at €108,400. Audi gives that German model combined consumption of 7.4–8.0 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 194–209 g/km. These are German-market figures and should not be treated as global pricing or availability.
For the US, Ars Technica reported starting prices of $87,700 for the Q9 and $118,000 for the SQ9, with the models expected in Q4. Those are separate US-market figures reported July 28, 2026, not conversions of Audi’s German price. Pricing and launch timing can change, so confirm current details with Audi or a local retailer.

What are the Q9’s lighting and assistance features?
Audi says the Q9 uses Matrix LED headlights and third-generation curved digital OLED rear panels. Its turn signals can project a stylized signal onto the road at night when turning or changing lanes. Audi also describes driver-assistance functions. These are manufacturer descriptions of equipment and intended visibility; they are not independent proof of safety performance.
