There is no clean, same-year three-way winner in the available figures: the comparison pairs a 2025 Audi S6 with a 2023 BMW M550i xDrive, while the Mercedes figures come from a current U.S. AMG E 53 Hybrid Sedan page and a separate 2025 model-year guide. The Audi is the comfort-focused V6 option, the cited BMW brings a twin-turbo V8, and the E 53 adds plug-in hybrid driving. Start by checking the model year and market you are shopping, then weigh price, powertrain and daily-use priorities.
Are these three cars a fair same-year comparison?
No. The available U.S. comparison data covers a 2025 Audi S6 and a 2023 BMW M550i xDrive; the Mercedes-Benz USA figures are from a current E 53 Hybrid Sedan page, with additional pricing and efficiency figures specifically for the 2025 E 53. These are not results from a controlled, same-year test. Prices below are published starting-price or MSRP figures, not transaction prices.
That distinction matters most if you are shopping new: the BMW data here identifies a 2023 model, and does not establish that a new M550i is currently available. Confirm the model year, condition and equipment of any car you are considering rather than treating the cited M550i figures as current new-car specifications.
How do their powertrains and outputs compare?
| Car and evidence scope | Powertrain | Published output |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 Audi S6, U.S. figures reported by Cars.com | 48V mild-hybrid V6, according to Audi’s 2025 Mexican-market technical sheet | 444 hp in Cars.com’s U.S. comparison |
| 2023 BMW M550i xDrive, Cars.com comparison | Twin-turbo gasoline V8 | 523 hp |
| Current U.S. Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Sedan, Mercedes-Benz USA product page | Plug-in hybrid inline-six and electric system | 577 hp and 553 lb-ft combined system output; Mercedes claims 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds |
The E 53’s headline output is combined system output, not the gasoline engine’s output alone. Mercedes-Benz USA says the gasoline engine itself produces 443 hp and 413 lb-ft; that figure describes the engine alone and should not be compared with the E 53’s combined rating as if they were measured on the same basis.

The S6 figures vary by market. Audi Mexico’s official 2025 technical sheet lists a 2.9-liter 48V mild-hybrid V6, 450 hp, 600 Nm, quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. Those are Mexican-market specifications, not a correction to Cars.com’s 444-hp U.S. figure.
What do the published prices and efficiency figures say?
| Model and source scope | Published starting price or MSRP | Published efficiency or electric range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 Audi S6, Cars.com U.S. comparison | $75,900 starting MSRP | 19 city / 27 highway mpg |
| 2023 BMW M550i xDrive, Cars.com U.S. comparison | $81,500 starting MSRP | 17 city / 25 highway mpg |
| 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Sedan, 2024 Mercedes-Benz Media Newsroom USA guide | $88,000 MSRP before $1,150 destination | 42 miles of EPA electric range; 54/65/59 MPGe as listed in the guide |
The Cars.com MPG figures are the comparison’s published estimates for the named model years, not a report of real-world testing. The E 53’s 2025 EPA electric-range and MPGe figures describe a plug-in hybrid; they are not directly comparable with the S6 and M550i gasoline MPG figures.

Mercedes-Benz USA’s current E 53 page lists a $91,100 starting price. That is a separate current listing, not the 2025 MSRP above. A Mercedes model-year pricing overview lists the 2026 E 53 at $89,600, another distinct figure. The sources therefore show different prices for different model-year or listing contexts; they do not support collapsing those amounts into a single universal E 53 price.
Which one suits different kinds of driving?
Choose the Audi S6 if comfort and quick daily driving lead
Edmunds’ review, updated in 2026, describes the 2025 S6 as comfortable and quick. It also criticizes the cabin presentation as aging and notes limited trunk space. Those are Edmunds’ observations, not a claim about every owner’s experience or a direct comparison with the other two cars.

Consider the BMW M550i if you specifically want the cited V8 character
The 2023 M550i xDrive is the V8 entry in this set, with Cars.com reporting 523 hp. Its cited starting price and MPG figures are higher and lower, respectively, than the 2025 S6’s figures in that comparison; those numbers alone do not establish which car is better to own, particularly given the model-year gap.
Choose the AMG E 53 if plug-in electric driving is a priority
The E 53 is the only plug-in hybrid among these three configurations. Its 2025 guide’s 42-mile EPA electric range makes it the distinct choice for buyers who can charge and want to use electric driving for some trips; whether that is useful depends on charging access and driving routine. Mercedes’ current page also claims the highest combined output of the three listed configurations, but its price and model-year basis differ from the comparison data for Audi and BMW.

What should you verify before comparing listings?
- Model year and market: Match the listing to the model year behind each specification. Do not transfer the Mexican S6 sheet’s 450 hp and 600 Nm to a U.S. car.
- Price basis: Check whether a figure is an MSRP, a starting price, a model-year price or a current product-page listing, and whether destination is included.
- Powertrain figures: Keep the E 53’s combined system output separate from its gasoline engine-only output.
- Efficiency basis: Compare the E 53’s plug-in electric range and MPGe with your charging habits, not as though they were the same metric as gasoline MPG.
- Specific car condition and equipment: The cited prices are snapshots, not offers for a particular vehicle; used-car condition, options and local availability require checking against the individual listing.
Is the BMW M5 the same alternative as the M550i?
No. BMW’s 2024 announcement for the 2025 M5 gives context for a newer, more powerful high-performance sedan—717 hp, 738 lb-ft, a $119,500 base MSRP before $1,175 destination, and a manufacturer-claimed 3.4-second 0–60 mph time—but the M5 is a different model. Those figures do not describe the 2023 M550i and should not be substituted into this comparison.
So, which is better: Audi S6, BMW M550i or Mercedes-AMG E 53?
There is no evidence here for a definitive overall winner or a controlled three-car test. The S6 is the comfort-and-quickness candidate in Edmunds’ assessment, the 2023 M550i is the V8 option in the cited comparison, and the E 53 is the plug-in hybrid with the strongest published combined output. The best fit depends on the specific model year and listing, whether plug-in charging matters, and which cabin and cargo trade-offs you are willing to accept.
