The Audi Q7 is the large luxury SUV described by the “small V6” headline: its European third-generation launch uses a 3.0-liter V6 diesel, while the 2026 Canadian Q7 55 uses a gasoline V6. That engine moves a vehicle available with up to seven seats, substantial cargo capacity, permanent all-wheel drive, and serious towing equipment. The word “biggest” needs a date and market qualifier, however: Audi Canada now identifies the Q9 as the largest SUV in its lineup, so the Q7 should be understood as a particularly large, full-size-oriented Audi rather than the company’s universally largest current SUV.
Is the Audi Q7 really Audi’s biggest SUV?
“Biggest” depends on when and where the lineup is being described. Audi Canada’s current SUV lineup and FAQ identify the Q9 as the largest Audi SUV, which means a current Canadian article should not present the Q7 as the company’s largest model without qualification. The Q7 remains Audi’s large, three-row luxury SUV and has been the brand’s flagship people mover in many markets for more than two decades.

The latest European announcement, dated June 9, 2026, calls the model the third-generation Q7. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner described the vehicle as continuing the Q7’s premium-SUV mission; that is Audi’s corporate positioning, not an independent road test. The practical takeaway is simpler: the Q7 combines a large body, available three-row seating, high towing capacity, and a V6 powertrain that is modest in displacement beside the vehicle’s size.
What “small V6” means in this Q7
A 3.0-liter engine is not small in absolute terms, but it is relatively compact for a luxury SUV weighing enough to offer seven seats and heavy-trailer capability. Audi’s European third-generation announcement specifies a 3.0-liter V6 diesel in two outputs. Both use an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and permanent quattro all-wheel drive as described in the launch release.

The prices and specifications in this table come from Audi AG’s June 9, 2026 European release and apply to Germany at launch. Audi said orders would open in June 2026, with deliveries beginning in September 2026. The fuel and emissions values are official combined-cycle figures, not independent real-world measurements; consumption can vary with wheels, equipment, weather, traffic, load, and driving style.
The Canadian V6 is a different engine and market story
Audi Canada’s 2026 Q7 page lists the Q7 55 with a 335-hp gasoline V6 and 369 lb-ft of torque. Audi gives a 0–100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds for that Canadian specification. The same page lists the Q7 45 with a 261-hp four-cylinder. Those outputs should not be merged with the European diesel figures: they describe different fuels, markets, and model specifications, and Audi warns that the displayed Canadian equipment and specifications may vary.
Consequently, a buyer comparing a European 299-PS diesel with a Canadian 335-hp gasoline Q7 is not comparing trim levels of one globally identical vehicle. Confirm the engine, fuel, certification, and equipment for the country where the vehicle will be registered.
How the Q7’s mild-hybrid system supports the V6
Audi says the European V6 uses an “MHEV plus” system that can temporarily supplement the drivetrain with up to 18 kW (24 PS). That is an assistance figure, not a separate continuous engine rating and not a promise that the vehicle always adds 24 PS to the published output. The system is intended to help the powertrain during selected operating conditions while the diesel remains the primary source of propulsion.

The European release also identifies an electric-powered compressor. Audi’s reason for including it is to support throttle response by building boost electrically rather than relying only on exhaust-driven turbocharging. The announcement does not provide an independent acceleration test, a measured towing test, or a fuel-economy result under a particular load, so those should not be inferred from the 18-kW assistance figure.

How many people and how much luggage can the Q7 carry?
Audi’s European Q7 model information lists five-, six-, or seven-seat configurations. The exact seating arrangement depends on the selected interior layout, so “seven seats” describes the maximum capacity rather than every Q7’s standard configuration.
Audi UK quotes 722 litres of boot space with the third row folded and up to 1,980 litres when the second row is also lowered. These figures illustrate the Q7’s two roles: it can carry a full passenger load when all rows are in use, then convert into a much larger cargo hauler when rear seats are folded. The 1,980-litre figure is not the volume available with seven occupants; it requires the second row to be lowered.

Before ordering, check the exact seat count and measure the items you carry most often. A seven-seat configuration, a six-seat arrangement with separate second-row chairs, and a five-seat layout can have different access and cargo compromises even when they share the same Q7 name.

How much can a 2026 Audi Q7 tow?
Towing capacity is market-specific and depends on the hitch and vehicle configuration. Audi Canada states that the Q7 can tow up to 7,700 lb with an available trailer hitch. Audi UK specifies up to 3,500 kg with an optional electrically deployable hitch. Those numbers are not interchangeable universal ratings: 7,700 lb is approximately 3,493 kg, but the published ratings come from different markets, certification systems, equipment descriptions, and conditions.

Use the rating only after confirming the local vehicle’s gross-trailer limit, tongue-weight limit, hitch type, trailer brakes, and any restrictions in the owner’s documentation. A headline maximum does not mean every Q7 leaves the factory equipped for that load. Ask the dealer to verify the exact vehicle identification, engine, seat configuration, hitch, and regional certification before buying a trailer or towing accessory.
Fuel use and emissions: what the European numbers do and do not say
For the European Q7 range announced in June 2026, Audi gives combined fuel consumption of 8.0–7.1 l/100 km and combined CO₂ emissions of 209–186 g/km. Audi breaks that range down by output: the 180-kW version is listed at 7.8–7.1 l/100 km and 205–186 g/km, while the 220-kW version is listed at 8.0–7.2 l/100 km and 209–188 g/km.

These are manufacturer-published test-cycle ranges. They are useful for comparing certified versions in the same regulatory context, but they are not a guarantee of what a heavily loaded Q7, a vehicle towing a trailer, or a driver making short urban trips will consume. The Canadian gasoline V6 page does not supply these European diesel figures, so do not use them to estimate Canadian Q7 55 fuel economy.

What the European launch costs and when it arrives
In Audi AG’s German June 2026 announcement, the 180-kW diesel starts at €87,900 and the 220-kW version at €90,500. Audi said ordering would begin in June 2026 and deliveries would start in September 2026. These are German launch prices and timing, not a global price list. Taxes, registration charges, options, destination fees, dealer pricing, and availability can change the amount in another country.
The Canadian 2026 Q7 page identifies the Q7 55 and Q7 45 but should be treated as a Canada-specific specification page. Verify current Canadian pricing and delivery timing directly with a local Audi retailer because the page warns that displayed models and specifications may vary.

1. Start with market and fuel
Identify whether the vehicle is the European V6 TDI launch model or the Canadian gasoline Q7 55. Fuel type changes the relevant power, torque, emissions, service requirements, and certified economy.
2. Compare torque as well as horsepower
The European diesel outputs are 500 Nm and 630 Nm, while the Canadian Q7 55 is listed at 369 lb-ft. Torque units differ, so convert them consistently before making a numerical comparison. Do not treat the temporary 18-kW MHEV plus contribution as the engine’s permanent rated output.

3. Confirm the seat layout
Choose five, six, or seven seats based on who will use the vehicle and how often the third row is occupied. Ask how the selected layout folds and what cargo access remains when every seat is upright.
4. Match cargo volume to real equipment
Use the 722-litre third-row-folded figure and the 1,980-litre maximum as reference points, then check whether your child seats, cases, bicycles, or work equipment fit without removing additional seats.
5. Verify towing hardware before relying on a rating
Determine whether the vehicle includes the required hitch or merely supports an optional one. Have the dealer confirm the permitted trailer mass and tongue load for the exact market and configuration.

Buyer checklist for a large Q7
- Which country’s specification sheet governs the vehicle?
- Is the engine a European 3.0-liter V6 diesel, a Canadian Q7 55 gasoline V6, or the Canadian Q7 45 four-cylinder?
- Do you need five, six, or seven seats?
- How much luggage space remains with the third row in use?
- Does the vehicle have the required trailer hitch, and is it the electrically deployable type referenced by Audi UK?
- What are the local trailer, tongue-weight, and braking limits?
- Are quoted fuel and CO₂ figures certified manufacturer values rather than real-world observations?
- Are the price and delivery date valid for your country and the model year you are ordering?
The Q7’s appeal is the combination of a substantial luxury-SUV body and a relatively compact V6 architecture, reinforced in Europe by mild-hybrid assistance and an electric compressor. Its actual suitability depends less on the headline “small V6” phrase than on the market-specific engine, seat layout, hitch equipment, and certification details attached to the particular vehicle.
