If your Audi Q4 e-tron will not charge, displays a drive-system warning, or estimates less range than expected, start by recording the model year and exact message. For safety warnings, inability to start or charge, or persistent electrical faults, check the vehicle’s 17-character VIN with Audi and contact an authorized dealer. A symptom alone cannot identify the cause, and the available official documents do not establish how prevalent any issue is across the U.S. Q4 e-tron fleet.
Check recalls and safety concerns first
Use Audi’s Recall / Service Campaign Lookup with the vehicle’s 17-character VIN, or ask an authorized Audi dealer to check it. Audi says its lookup covers notified recalls and campaigns from the past 15 years; for other warranty-related updates, contact a dealer. Audi describes service campaigns as addressing product technical issues not directly related to safety or compliance. A bulletin or report about a model year does not establish whether a particular car is included.
OCDC control unit: recall report 25V-125
Audi’s 2025 NHTSA-hosted recall report describes U.S. Q4 claims involving charging problems, 12-volt battery warning messages, failure to start, and tow-ins related to an OCDC control unit issue. Audi reported a possible progression involving loss of electronically controlled or assisted functions and, if warnings are disregarded, eventual loss of motive power. The report lists 117 U.S. Audi Q4 claims in its recall chronology; that is a claim count, not a fleet-wide failure rate or a count of confirmed defects. Audi’s stated remedy is replacement of the OCDC with an improved part at no cost when available. Check the VIN rather than trying to diagnose recall eligibility from symptoms.
Brake control software: campaign 454R
Audi’s March 5, 2025 compliance recall bulletin addresses brake control unit software in certain U.S. 2022–2023 Q4 e-tron SUVs and Sportbacks. It lists 7,492 SUVs and 2,027 Sportbacks as affected-vehicle counts; those figures do not mean every listed vehicle experienced a failure. The bulletin’s correction is a software update, and campaign status must be confirmed by VIN. Audi advises: “Before leaving the vehicle, owners are advised to confirm the parking brake indicator light has illuminated in order to help avoid a situation where the vehicle could roll when it is not intended to do so.”

Why won’t my Audi Q4 e-tron charge or activate its drive system?
Charging trouble can come from the charging setup or the vehicle, and similar symptoms can have different causes. Follow the vehicle and EVSE manuals; do not open or work on high-voltage components. As a basic triage step, note whether the problem occurs with one charging source or more than one known-compatible source. That comparison may help service staff, but it does not prove the cause.
- Record the exact dashboard warning, model year, whether the vehicle starts, charging type (AC or DC), and what happens when charging is attempted.
- If a warning persists, the vehicle will not start, or it repeatedly refuses to charge, contact an authorized Audi service department and provide those details.
- Check the VIN for open recalls before assuming a charger or battery fault.
Audi’s April 2024 technician bulletin concerns a specific complaint in 2024 Q4 e-tron quattro, rear-wheel-drive, and Sportback vehicles: inability to charge the vehicle/high-voltage battery or activate the drive system alongside listed AC or DC fuse diagnostic trouble codes in the charging-unit control module. It prescribes workshop tests and possible replacement of charging unit J1050 if relevant faults persist. This is a technician-facing procedure, not a DIY repair guide. Audi’s separate 2025 OCDC recall report covers other electrical symptoms; overlapping symptom language does not mean the causes are the same.

Why is my Q4 e-tron range lower in cold weather?
The projected range on the instrument cluster is an estimate, not a fixed-distance guarantee. Audi says range varies with temperature, driving style, route, charge level, vehicle load, and towing. Cold weather can therefore change the estimate without proving that the battery has failed.
Ways to manage everyday range
- Plan charging stops for the route and expected conditions.
- Precondition the battery while the vehicle is connected, where the vehicle’s equipment and settings allow it.
- Use Efficiency mode and regenerative braking when appropriate.
- Check tire pressures and remove unused roof boxes or racks.
- Use the instrument cluster’s charge and projected-range display; the myAudi app can show battery status remotely and support planning.
Audi warns that frequent consecutive fast charging can permanently decrease battery capacity. If range loss is persistent rather than an estimate that shifts with conditions, or appears alongside warning messages, arrange a dealer evaluation instead of diagnosing battery health from one display reading.

How do I check Q4 e-tron phone pairing, MMI, or myAudi problems?
Audi’s Q4 e-tron support library includes tutorials for Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, destination sending through myAudi, Wi-Fi setup, charge scheduling, charging capacity, and range display. Use the tutorial or owner’s manual for the exact model year: screens, equipment, and available features can differ.
For MY2022 specifically, an Audi technical circular says configurations vary depending on navigation equipment and that the Q4 communicates with a different Audi connect backend from other Audi models. That context may help explain a persistent connected-service issue, but it should not be assumed to describe later model years. If pairing or app connectivity remains unreliable after following the applicable instructions, provide the model year, equipment, phone, and exact error to Audi support or a dealer.

Should I update Q4 e-tron software to fix a warning?
Do not apply a generic software-update procedure to every warning or infotainment fault. Audi’s June 17, 2024 ME 3.5 instructions cover 2022–2024 Q4 vehicles and explicitly direct technicians to use the procedure only when referred to by another technical service bulletin. The bulletin also warns that high-voltage charging must be disconnected before the specified workshop update procedure. Ask Audi service whether a particular update applies to your VIN and symptom.
When does a home charger need attention?
If charging fails only with one home EVSE, outlet, or setup, consult the charger and vehicle manuals and have the installation assessed by a qualified electrician. If the vehicle also refuses to charge on other known-compatible equipment, or displays electrical or drive-system warnings, report that distinction to Audi service. A home EVSE is charging equipment, not a repair for an onboard charging-unit, battery, or control-unit fault. Any replacement or installation choice should match the vehicle and home electrical requirements, including connector compatibility, circuit capacity, installation needs, scheduling features, and warranty support.
