The company calls that liquid bi-ION, not ordinary seawater or a household salt-water mix, and the range was a manufacturer projection rather than an independently verified test result.
What the 600-mile claim actually means
The figure comes from nanoFlowcell’s 2017 claims for the QUANT 48VOLT. Its press release described an anticipated range of around 1,000 km, while the company’s model material stated more than 1,000 km. Converting 1,000 km gives roughly 621 miles, which explains the rounded “600 miles” headline. nanoFlowcell’s 2017 press release and its QUANT 48VOLT model page present those figures as company claims, not independent test results.
This is not the same figure as the 600 km range associated with the earlier QUANT e-Sportlimousine announced in 2014. That distance is about 373 miles, and it belongs to a different model. The 2014 launch announcement identifies that earlier car and its claim.
Is the fuel really salt water?
“Salt water” is a loose shorthand, not the manufacturer’s stated name for the liquid. nanoFlowcell calls its electrolyte bi-ION and describes the QUANT system as refueled with that liquid rather than charged from the electrical grid. The published material does not establish that ordinary seawater or a home-mixed salt solution can power the car. The company’s model description and FLOWmagazine technical feature are the sources for its terminology and system description.

What nanoFlowcell said the prototype could do
The published specifications describe a low-voltage flow-cell sports car. The figures below are manufacturer-listed specifications or projections for the prototype; they should not be read as independently measured performance.

The company’s 2017 release lists the output, acceleration, top speed and projected range. Its technical feature gives the approximate capacity and tank volume.

Prototype, not a production-car range record
nanoFlowcell’s 2017 press release explicitly labels the QUANT 48VOLT “Price: prototype, not-for-sale (yet).” The available company materials establish that it was presented as a prototype and that the manufacturer projected a long range; they do not establish a consumer production car, real-world range validation, or a comparable test against production EVs. The company’s press release is the source of the availability wording.
That distinction matters when evaluating the headline: a projected range for a prototype is not the same as a verified distance achieved in road use. The cited materials are primarily from nanoFlowcell, and do not independently establish range, safety, production readiness, commercial availability, cost, or environmental impact.
