Car and Driver’s 2025 U.S. review covers an A8 L with a 335-horsepower V6 and standard all-wheel drive. Its measured 0–60 mph time was 5.3 seconds. The review lists EPA estimates of 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined, while Consumer Reports recorded 21 mpg overall in its own road test. These figures use different test methods and should not be treated as interchangeable.

The L’s additional wheelbase matters most in back. Check knee clearance with the front seats set for the tallest regular driver, the ease of entering through the wide rear doors and whether the specific car has the rear-seat technology or comfort package you want. Audi UK lists optional Rear Technology equipment; availability is not identical in the United States or other markets.
Ride quality and wheels
Adaptive air suspension is listed on the UK A8 L specification. Wheel and tire choices can alter the experience, so compare cars on their actual equipment rather than relying on the A8 L badge. A vehicle with larger wheels may look more imposing but transmit more sharpness over broken pavement than a comfort-oriented configuration.
How it drives
The 2025 U.S. car’s 5.3-second 0–60 mph result is quick enough for effortless merging and passing. Car and Driver nevertheless says the V6 feels less forceful than some rivals. The important distinction is between adequate real-world pace and the instant thrust buyers may expect from the most powerful versions of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7 Series.

Reviewers describe the chassis as capable and balanced, with handling that remains composed without sacrificing its limousine mission. Equipment is package- and market-dependent. Audi UK lists front MMI displays and optional Technology, Technology Pro and Rear Technology packages. A used car’s advertisement may say “fully loaded” without identifying which package is installed, so request the window sticker or build sheet and verify every desired feature in the vehicle itself.
Driver assistance and safety evidence
Car and Driver identifies automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist as standard on its reviewed U.S. model. Adaptive cruise control is available rather than standard on that specification. Audi UK describes a different regional assistance list that includes adaptive cruise assist and parking assistance.
Features can change by model year and market. Do not infer a crash-test result from the presence of driver aids: the reviewed material does not establish a current NHTSA or IIHS rating. Check the exact vehicle identification number or model year with those organizations before treating safety-test performance as a buying criterion.

The A8 L’s restrained appearance is deliberate. Car and Driver considers the presentation demure and says the model is showing its age beside newer rivals. Buyers who want a discreet sedan may see that as a benefit; those seeking an unmistakable status symbol may prefer the more extroverted design language of competing flagships.
Audi’s global information describes enhanced A8 versions with revised styling and technology, while including archived 2021 and 2022 releases. That history should not be mistaken for evidence of a new 2026 redesign. Confirm whether a car is a pre-facelift or facelift example and which infotainment and assistance revisions came with it.

This is an aggregator score reported by Edmunds, not Audi’s own statistic and not a model-specific probability that a particular car will fail. Treat it as a reason to investigate condition and service history, not as proof that every A8 L is troublesome.

The U.S. review cites a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and powertrain warranty, with no complimentary scheduled maintenance. Coverage for a used car depends on its in-service date, mileage and any transferable terms. Obtain the warranty booklet and service invoices before assigning a value to remaining coverage.

- Price insurance, premium tires, brakes and local specialist labor before agreeing to a purchase.
- Check for open recalls and verify which warranty coverage remains in writing.
New versus lightly used: which makes sense?
A lightly used A8 L can offer stronger value because large luxury sedans commonly depreciate quickly, but the discount must compensate for age, mileage and remaining warranty. A new car gives you the latest available equipment and a known delivery date, yet the list prices cited above are substantial and options can add materially to the total.
For either route, compare equivalent specifications rather than badge prices. How to compare the A8 L with other flagship sedans

Buyers prioritizing longer warranty coverage may also investigate the Genesis G90, while verifying local terms rather than assuming one country’s policy applies elsewhere.
