The best ATV sprayer is the one whose spray pattern suits the job and whose filled weight, mounting setup and controls suit your ATV. Choose a boom for a more defined spray band, boomless nozzles when clearance matters more than precision, and a handgun or wand for spot work. Then check the complete load, exact included configuration and chemical-label requirements before buying.
Choose the spray pattern for the job
Decide whether you will mainly spot-treat, make repeated broadcast passes or spray over rough ground. These uses call for different equipment; advertised coverage width alone does not tell you which setup will work best.
Boom sprayers
A boom holds multiple spaced nozzles and can provide a more controlled, defined band when its spacing and nozzle setup match the target area. Booms may be fixed or folding, and may be included or sold separately. Confirm the exact configuration for the model you are considering.
Boomless sprayers
Boomless units use wider-pattern nozzles without a projecting boom. They can make it easier to clear obstacles and navigate rough terrain, but the broader pattern is less precise. CropCare describes its boomless option as suited to rough terrain where accuracy is less critical. That is a model-specific use case, not a guarantee that every boomless sprayer suits every uneven property.

Handguns and wands
A handgun or wand is useful for spot treatments that do not call for a broadcast pass. If spot work is your primary task, consider whether this is more important than a wide swath when choosing the sprayer and its included accessories.
Match tank capacity to ATV payload
Capacity affects how often you refill, but a full tank also adds substantial weight. Include the sprayer, liquid, operator and any other cargo when checking the ATV’s load rating; do not treat the tank’s gallon capacity as the weight of the complete load.

FIMCO’s 2022 owner’s manual for its LG-25-BL-QR says the 25-gallon sprayer weighs approximately 250 lb when filled with water. That is a specification for this particular model, not a universal filled weight for 25-gallon sprayers. Check the specific sprayer’s manual and your vehicle’s load rating before use. Choose the smallest capacity that meets your route and refill needs without exceeding that rating.
Compare the complete system, not just pump flow
Flow and pressure figures are useful for comparing specifications, but they do not establish how evenly a sprayer will apply a product. Nozzle type and size, pressure, operating speed, swath and calibration all matter. Match the pump and nozzle setup to the intended application and the chemical-label directions; a higher pump-flow figure by itself does not guarantee better coverage.

Manufacturer coverage and throw figures are model specifications, not independent performance comparisons. Usable coverage also depends on wind, nozzle setup, pressure, elevation, travel speed and terrain, so do not choose primarily by advertised throw distance.

- Power leads and controls, hose, handgun or wand, filters and fittings.
- Whether accessories such as a turf marker are standard or optional.
- Compatibility of replacement nozzles and service parts with the exact model.
Do not assume that a pictured boom, receiver mount or accessory is part of the listed package; verify it with the seller or manufacturer.
Test, operate and clean the sprayer safely
Before spraying
FIMCO’s manual says: “It is VERY important to test this sprayer with plain water before actual spraying is attempted.” The manual explains that a water test helps the operator become familiar with the sprayer and check for leaks before risking chemical. Follow the manual for your model, then calibrate the sprayer for the intended application and chemical-label directions.

While operating
Follow both the chemical label and equipment manual. Wear the protective clothing, eye protection and chemical-resistant gloves they require; keep people and pets clear as directed and observe label access or re-entry directions. Review your model’s manual for speed and stability warnings. For example, the Tractor Supply/FIMCO manual for model ATV-25-4ADM-5NMB-TSC says to travel no faster than 10 mph and recommends at most 5 mph in its manual context; those figures should not be applied to other models without checking their manuals. The manual also cautions that an ATV or UTV is less stable and behaves differently with a filled sprayer. Read the applicable manual.
After use
Flush and clean the equipment according to the product label and sprayer manual, and check filters, hoses, fittings and nozzles. Chapin warns that chemicals used in one sprayer can contaminate later applications even after cleaning; it advises against storing chemicals in the sprayer and against spraying in windy conditions. Follow the relevant label and manual for cleaning, storage and winterizing instructions.
