There is no single winner between the Ather Rizta and TVS Orbiter. Choose the Orbiter V1 when your priority is the lowest entry price, lower weight and a straightforward city commute. Choose Orbiter V2 when you prefer the TVS package but need its larger battery. Choose a higher-capacity Rizta when longer claimed range, stronger published performance and access to Ather Grid matter more than the lowest purchase price.
The important comparison is not Rizta versus Orbiter as two single products. Ather sells Rizta in several battery configurations, while TVS offers Orbiter V1 and V2. Range, charging time, equipment and warranty value change with the exact variant. The figures below are India-market manufacturer listings as published in October 2026; confirm the variant, local incentives and dealer quotation before paying.

Quick verdict: which one is better for you?
| If your priority is… | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest purchase budget and a light urban runabout | TVS Orbiter V1 | TVS displays an ex-showroom price of ₹1,03,650 for the shown V1 configuration. The smaller 1.8 kWh battery also suits shorter, predictable routes. |
| More battery capacity within the TVS range | TVS Orbiter V2 | The 3.1 kWh pack carries a published 158 km IDC claim, but its included 650 W charger takes longer from 10% to 80% than the V1 charger. |
| Higher published output and top speed | Ather Rizta | Ather lists 4.3 kW peak power, 22 Nm torque, an 80 km/h top speed and 0–40 km/h in 4.7 seconds. |
| Maximum claimed range among the listed configurations | Higher-capacity Ather Rizta | Ather’s specification page lists 123 km and 161 km IDC figures across Rizta configurations. Match the figure to the battery and charger on your quote. |
| Access to a public scooter-charging network | Ather Rizta, where available | Ather lists Ather Grid access, but coverage, plans and included features should be checked for your city and chosen variant. |
These are specification-based recommendations, not results from a controlled head-to-head road test. Traffic, rider weight, speed, temperature, tyre pressure, gradients and riding mode can make delivered range materially different from an IDC number.

A battery-size mismatch is the easiest way to reach a misleading conclusion. A small-pack Rizta should not be compared with Orbiter V2 as though both were equivalent, and Orbiter V1’s range claim needs special care because TVS presents two figures on its own pages.

| Model | Published battery choices | Published IDC range | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ather Rizta | 2.7 kWh, 2.9 kWh and 3.5 kWh configurations are shown on Ather’s Rizta specifications page. | 123 km or 161 km, depending on configuration. | Which battery, charger, software/features and warranty package appear on the dealer quotation. |
| TVS Orbiter V1 | 1.8 kWh. | 92 km on the product page; 86 km in the FAQ. | Until TVS reconciles the two pages, use 86 km as the conservative published planning figure. The FAQ describes Eco mode, a solo rider and standard test conditions. |
| TVS Orbiter V2 | 3.1 kWh. | 158 km IDC. | The exact on-road quotation, included charger and any current offer. |
IDC is a standardized test-cycle result, not a promise that every owner will travel that distance between charges. Treat it as a way to compare manufacturer claims, then size the battery for your own route with a reserve. A daily route that consumes most of the conservative published figure leaves little protection against detours, rain, heavy traffic or battery ageing.
How to calculate whether the range is enough
- Measure the real round trip from home to work, school, market or other regular destinations. Include the return trip; do not use only the one-way distance.
- Add recurring detours such as a school stop, charging location, gym or weekly shopping.
- Compare that total with the claim for the exact variant. For example, a 35 km round trip repeated twice between charges equals 70 km before any detour. Against the Orbiter V1’s conservative 86 km FAQ figure, that leaves only 16 km of nominal test-cycle headroom, not a guaranteed real-world reserve.
- Choose a larger pack or a charging opportunity if the route regularly approaches the published figure. Do not assume an advertised IDC number will remain unchanged at highway speeds, with two people or in very hot or wet conditions.
Performance and everyday riding
Ather publishes the clearest performance numbers in this comparison. Its Rizta specification page lists 4.3 kW peak power, 22 Nm torque, an 80 km/h top speed and 0–40 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds. Those figures point to more reserve for joining faster urban traffic or carrying a passenger, although they are still manufacturer specifications rather than independent test results.
TVS’s Orbiter pages emphasize the V1/V2 battery and charging configurations rather than a single directly comparable performance table. Third-party comparison pages select particular variants, and their output, price and range rows may not match the current official configuration. Use them to identify questions for a test ride, not to override the manufacturer’s current specification.

For either scooter, the useful test is the route you actually ride. Check low-speed balance in traffic, throttle smoothness, braking feel, turning clearance, seat comfort for both riders, mirror visibility and how easily you can place your feet at a stop. A higher top speed is valuable only if your roads and riding habits make use of it; a lighter, simpler scooter can feel easier in congested lanes and tight parking spaces.

What the published figures do—and do not—tell you
- Peak power and torque: useful indicators of acceleration reserve, but not a guarantee of a particular hill-climb time or loaded performance.
- 0–40 km/h: Ather’s 4.7-second figure describes a defined acceleration measurement; it does not predict every launch in traffic.
- Top speed: Ather’s listed 80 km/h is a maximum specification, not a recommended cruising speed or evidence of highway suitability.
- Range: IDC values are most useful for comparing like-for-like claims. They should not be treated as a daily distance allowance.
Charging: time, equipment and socket requirements
Charging is where the Orbiter variants diverge most clearly. TVS lists a 650 W charger with the scooter and quotes these 10–80% times:
| Orbiter variant | Battery | Included 650 W charger, 10–80% | Optional charger information |
|---|---|---|---|
| V1 | 1.8 kWh | 2 hours | TVS lists 1 hour 30 minutes with an add-on 950 W charger. |
| V2 | 3.1 kWh | 3 hours 30 minutes | TVS lists 1 hour 30 minutes with an add-on 950 W charger. |
TVS says the supplied charger works from a standard 15 A household socket and advises using TVS-provided chargers. Its FAQ states: “Fast charging impacts the lifespan of Li-ion batteries and as of now TVS Orbiter does not support fast charging.” The add-on charger listing should therefore be read as a higher-power compatible charger, not as evidence that the scooter supports public DC fast charging. Ask the dealer what is included, what it costs and how it affects warranty terms.
Ather’s charging time varies with Rizta battery configuration and charger choice. The official specification page does not provide one universal duration that applies to every Rizta, so do not compare an Orbiter time with an unspecified Rizta promise. Have the dealer write the battery, charger model, expected charge window and installation requirements on the quotation.

- Confirm that your parking space is close enough to a safe, properly earthed 15 A outlet or to the approved installation point.
- Check whether the outlet is shared with a high-load appliance. Avoid improvised extension boards and unapproved wiring.
- Ask for the manufacturer-approved charger and retain the invoice and installation record.
- Confirm who pays for wiring, mounting, weather protection and any electrical work.
- Plan charging around the actual 10–80% time for your variant, not the smallest battery’s figure.
Features, software and practical ownership
The Rizta and Orbiter packages differ beyond the battery. Ather lists connected features and Ather Grid access on its product material, while the exact functions and plan terms can vary by variant or subscription. Verify whether navigation, connected services, remote controls and Grid benefits are included for the period you expect to own the scooter, and check the Grid locations on routes you actually use.

TVS lists app-related benefits and standard accessories on the Orbiter product page. Ask for an itemized list rather than assuming every image or accessory shown online is included in the displayed price. A center stand, pillion footrest, floor area, under-seat storage and charging-cable storage can matter more to a family commuter than a headline feature, so inspect each scooter with your helmet and daily bag before deciding.
Neither manufacturer’s published page establishes a controlled, identical real-world range comparison. Independent comparison pages from ZigWheels and Autocar India can help you see how selected variants are listed, but their rows may age as prices, software and configurations change.
Warranty: compare coverage, not only the headline years
Ather’s product page lists a standard battery warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km and also describes a 10-year battery-warranty offer. The offer’s price, eligibility, mileage limit, covered components and conditions must be confirmed in the written quotation; do not assume that the 10-year wording applies automatically to every Rizta battery or every owner.
TVS’s current Orbiter page lists a 5-year or 70,000 km extended-warranty benefit. Confirm whether that benefit is standard or conditional, which battery and electrical components it covers, whether servicing milestones are required, and what happens if you use a charger that TVS does not recommend. Keep the warranty booklet, invoices and service records.

| Warranty question | Why it changes the comparison |
|---|---|
| Is the term measured by years, kilometres or whichever comes first? | A high-mileage commuter may reach the kilometre cap well before the calendar limit. |
| Does the headline term cover the battery only or the complete scooter? | Battery, motor, controller, charger and display may have different limits. |
| Is extended cover included in the quoted price? | A low headline price can change after adding an optional protection plan. |
| Are charger and installation requirements specified? | Using a non-recommended charger or undocumented wiring can create a warranty dispute. |
| What service network applies in your city? | Warranty value depends on practical access to an authorized workshop. |
Price and total on-road cost in India
The amount shown online is not a universal on-road price. Registration, insurance, state incentives, taxes, accessories, financing and dealer offers vary by location and date. TVS displays ₹1,03,650 ex-showroom for the shown Orbiter V1 configuration and provides an on-road estimator, while its page warns that prices may change. No single national price for Orbiter V2 or for every Rizta configuration is published, so a precise cross-city ranking would be misleading.
Request both dealers’ quotes for the same city and the same assumptions. The comparison should show ex-showroom price, insurance, registration, subsidy or incentive, charger, installation, accessories, extended warranty, finance charges and any exchange or promotional discount as separate lines.

Which scooter suits common commuter profiles?
Choose Orbiter V1 for a short, predictable daily route
V1 is the logical starting point when purchase budget and lower mass matter most and your regular distance leaves meaningful room below the conservative 86 km FAQ claim. It is not the right choice merely because its product page says 92 km; use the lower figure for planning until TVS clarifies the discrepancy. If you regularly carry a passenger, climb steep roads or cannot charge at home, move up to a larger-battery alternative.
Choose Orbiter V2 when you want TVS ownership with more reserve
V2’s 3.1 kWh battery and 158 km IDC claim address the main limitation of a small commuter pack. The trade-off is the longer 3 hours 30 minutes from 10% to 80% with the included 650 W charger. It makes sense for buyers who like the TVS network and ergonomics but need fewer charging sessions, provided the local quotation remains competitive with a higher-capacity Rizta.

Choose a higher-capacity Rizta for performance and claimed range
A higher-capacity Rizta is the stronger fit when the 161 km IDC configuration, published 4.3 kW output and 80 km/h top-speed specification align with your route and riding needs. Check the exact battery, charger, connected-service plan and battery-warranty offer; a model name alone does not tell you which package the dealer is quoting.
Choose based on charging access, not range alone
A scooter with a larger claimed range is less useful if you cannot charge where it is parked. Mark your home socket, workplace parking and nearby authorized charging points before selecting a variant. A reliable overnight home charge can make a smaller battery perfectly practical, while a long route without a dependable charging point may justify the larger pack even if its purchase price is higher.
Test-ride and purchase checklist
- Record the exact variant. Photograph the quotation or specification screen showing battery capacity, charger and software package.
- Verify the range claim. For Orbiter V1, ask why the product page shows 92 km while the FAQ says 86 km, and request the dealer’s written interpretation.
- Measure your route. Include passengers, hills, detours and the distance between charging opportunities.
- Inspect charging hardware. Confirm socket requirements, cable length, installation, weather protection and the cost of any higher-power charger.
- Ride both scooters if available. Test acceleration, braking, low-speed balance, turning radius, seat comfort and passenger space on the same route.
- Read warranty conditions. Check battery, motor, controller, charger and vehicle coverage separately, including kilometre caps and service requirements.
- Check local support. Confirm the nearest authorized service centre, expected parts process and Ather Grid availability if relevant.
- Compare final totals. Use same-city, same-date on-road quotes with insurance, registration, accessories and warranty shown separately.
- Keep your records. Save the signed quote, delivery inspection, charger invoice, registration documents and warranty booklet.
Bottom-line buying decision
Buy the TVS Orbiter V1 if a conservative 86 km published range is comfortably above your normal use and the lower entry cost outweighs the smaller battery. Buy Orbiter V2 if you want TVS’s format but need a 3.1 kWh pack and can accept the longer included-charger time. Buy a higher-capacity Ather Rizta if its specified range, performance and charging-network access solve a problem that the Orbiter does not. In every case, decide from the written local quote and your measured route—not from the model names or the largest number on a brochure.
